Looks like the shared cinematic universe model is permeating every level of movie-making from big budget studio franchises to B-movie reboots. Cinedigm has announced plans to remake 10 cult classic films from American International Pictures, the studio best known for producing the films of Roger Corman through the 1950s and beyond. Variety reports that this new project will come from producers Lou Arkoff, Snakes On A Planes' Jeff Katz and Hal Sadoff. Katz wrote all ten films which...

If you needed more proof that there’s not a single horror film Hollywood won’t consider rebooting, last week’s news that producer Jeff Katz is working on a relaunch of cult ‘80s favorite Sleepaway Camp could be the final bit of evidence needed to convince you that literally everything is on the table when it comes to remakes. Katz has acquired the rights to remake the first adventure of Angela (Felissa Rose), and his intentions are to “echo its legacy and the psychosexual elements that made the first pic such a memorable cult favorite.” As our friends at Film School Rejects point out, this almost assuredly means we’ll be seeing the same film, only with different fashions and lots of cell phones added to the mix. The biggest question...

It's the day after Halloween, but there's still some horror news showing up today. First of all, for anyone who is a fan of the 1983 slasher film Sleepaway Camp, Shout Factory will be releasing the original uncut version of the film on Blu-Ray for the first time next spring. And hot on the heels of that announcement, Deadline has word that Jeff Katz, a former executive of 20th Century Fox and New Line, has optioned the remake rights to the film from writer/director-turned-lawyer Robert Hiltzik, producer Michele Tatosian, and actress Felissa Rose. As expected, the horror story will be updated to take place in a modern setting. Katz wants to turn the reboot into "a new film series that echoes its legacy and the psychosexual elements that made the first pic such a memorable cult favorite." The original horror film spawned three sequels from other filmmakers while Hiltzik held...

Acknowledging our collective thirst for blood and ’80s nostalgia, producer Jeff Katz has acquired the rights to the 1983 cult classic Sleepaway Camp in order to reboot the summertime slasher for a whole new generation of awful teens. Deadline reports that Katz wants to “echo its legacy and the psychosexual elements that made the first pic such a memorable cult favorite,” while moving the story to a modern setting. So basically the same movie, but with different hair and texting. Not that anything should necessarily change about the story. Sleepaway Camp is a mercilessly bloody and brutal revenge flick that made Camp Crystal Lake look like it was for Cub Scouts. The film has spawned several direct-to-videos and one true sequel, 2008′s Return to Sleepaway Camp (also direct-to-video), so the franchise is in need of a good scrubbing. With original writer/director Robert Hiltzik, producer Michelle Tatosian and actress Felissa Rose, who...

The 1983 classic slasher film Sleepaway Camp is set to get a franchise reboot. The first film was great, and if you haven't seen it yet, I suggest you give it a go. It has a pretty great ending as far as slasher films go. Unfortunately, over the years there have been a few terrible sequels that you don't need to see.
The reboot is being developed by Fox and New Line executive Jeff Katz, and he's looking to bring the franchise to a new generation of slasher film fans. I'm personally not a big fan of the slasher horror genre as a don't really find it that scary. I like horror movies that mess with your head.

Here we are, wasting our breath trying to talk you guys into picking new Halloween classics while Hollywood is still busy recycling the same old ones. In an era where no property or franchise is too obscure to be revived, we're now faced with the prospect of a Sleepaway Camp remake. According to Deadline the 1983 slasher film is in the corsairs of former Fox executive Jeff Katz, who has optioned the film's remake rights from an unlikely trio of owners. Katz will be working with the original film's writer/director Robert Hiltzik, producer Michael Tatosian and star Felissa Rose as producers on the reboot, which "aims to reboot the Sleepaway Camp mythos in a modern setting with a new film series that echoes its legacy and the psychosexual elements that made the first pic such a memorable cult favorite." While the rest of us were perfecting our Javier Bardem getups from “The Counselor” and heading out into the cold, murky night for Halloween thrills, a number of similarly-themed announcements landed as well, promising a slasher franchise headed for reboot status, a first look at a horror pilot from the director of “Splice”, and an new release date and poster for a delayed exploitation pic. DVD label Shout Factory took the Halloween opportunity to announce a forthcoming Blu-ray release of the 1983 slasher flick “Sleepaway Camp”, but that's not the only news on the matter; Deadline reports New Line exec Jeff Katz has optioned remake rights on the film from the three main rights holders and filmmakers--writer/director Robert Hiltzik, producer Michele Tatosian, and actress Felissa Rose. Rose starred in the original picture as Angela, a bullied teenager at summer camp who encounters a bigger threat when a killer starts murdering her fellow campers.

Cult classic slasher flick "Sleepaway Camp" is getting a remake (and a reboot), with an assist from its original director, star, and producer.
The 1983 horror movie centered around a serial killer that takes out kid campers at the titular summer getaway, and spawned three sequels, each more ridiculous than the last. Robert Hiltzik, who wrote and directed the original but was uninvolved with its follow-ups, was displeased with the turn the franchise took after he departed, and retained the rights to the movie, along with original producer Michele Tatosian and actress Felissa Rose, who starred in the series as Angela, a bullied teen attending the camp.
Now, Hiltzik, Tatosian, and Rose are working with former film executive Jeff Katz to give "Sleepaway Camp" new life as a rebooted franchise set in the modern day. Deadline reports that the new movies would also echo the original's "psychosexual elements."

Love it or hate it, the original Friday the 13th ushered in the era of the promiscuous-teens-stalked-by-murderous-psychopaths/monsters-while-at-camp trend (more commonly referred to as the slasher pic), which prevailed in cinemas throughout the early eighties. One of the lesser-known entries to follow in Friday’s bloody wake was the cult classic Sleepaway Camp, which is now getting a 21st century makeover courtesy of ex-Fox/New Line executive Jeff Katz.
Sleepaway Camp spins the wicked tale of Angela (Felissa Rose), who is spending her summer at the idyllic titular camp when a deranged lunatic begins offing kids at the campground in gruesome fashion. The film is notorious for its infamous twist ending which to this day, manages to shock and surprise.

Famed early 1980s slasher franchise "Sleepaway Camp" is getting rebooted. Producer Jeff Katz has optioned remake rights to the property and hopes to update the mythos for a modern setting.
In the original, a slightly disturbed and painfully shy young woman named Angela (Felissa Rose) is sent away to summer camp with her cousin.
Not long after her arrival, things start to go horribly wrong for anyone with sinister or less than honorable intentions.
The reboot aims to keep the psychosexual elements that made the first film such a cult favorite. How it will handle the original's famous ending should be interesting to see.
Robert Hiltzik's 1983 film film was shot on a budget of $350,000, yet pulled in an impressive $11 million. Katz, Hiltzik, Rose and Michele Tatosian are all set to produce the remake.

Continuing the Halloween tradition of remembering our favorite scary movies, then looking to see if the rights are available so we can remake them, former New Line executive Jeff Katz has begun developing a franchise reboot of Sleepaway Camp, the cult 1983 slasher that has yet to be updated, so therefore it must. The original Sleepaway Camp—in which a series of grisly murders upsets the normal order of brutal ostracizing and diarrhea that is summer camp—remains highly regarded by horror fans (save the cast of How Did This Get Made?), both for its admirably straightforward approach to just ...

Camp Arawak is getting ready to open its doors for another summer. In an appropriately Halloween-timed announcement, Deadline is reporting that producer Jeff Katz has optioned the rights to the cult horror classic Sleepaway Camp and is looking to reboot the franchise on the big screen. Written and directed by Robert Hiltzik, the 1983 original featured a surprising twist ending that set it apart from other slasher fare of the era. The series continued with two direct sequels, which featured a slightly more comical approach with Pamela Springsteen (Bruce Springsteen's sister) in the lead. A fourth film, Sleepaway Camp IV: The Survivor , started production in 1992 and remained unfinished for two decades before going direct to DVD. Most recently, Hiltzik returned to the franchise...

Back in the 1950s, the film industry went through some major changes. The studio system (in which the major studios had directors, actors, and writers under contract and matched them up for films) was dying, and the studios had lost ownership of most theater chains due to anti-trust laws, which meant theaters had more freedom in what they could screen. This gave rise to the independent studios, who would hire no-name directors and actors on a per-project basis, could churn out low-budget flicks with sensational topics that could turn a bigger profit.
American International Pictures (Aip) was one of the biggest independent studios of its time, with over 500 films produced and/or distributed by the company. Aip produced Roger Corman's earliest films. The company specialized in "teeny-bopper" films: juvenile crime, horror, and sci-fi tales. Jeff Katz, Lou Arkoff, and Hal Sadoff are going to remake a bunch of American International Pictures’ (Aip) flicks from the 50s. The plan is to remake 10 movies, with the first group being Girls In Prison, Viking Women & The Sea Serpent, The Brain Eaters, She-Creature, Teenage Caveman, Runaway Daughters, The Undead, War of The Colossal Beast, Cool & The Crazy and Day The World Ended.

Viking Women & The Sea Serpent, The Brain Eaters, She-Creature, Teenage Caveman, The Undead, War of the Colossal Beast, and The Day the World Ended. These are a few of my favorite things, and they're now getting remade and more!
According to Deadline, Jeff Katz, Lou Arkoff, and Hal Sadoff plan to remake 10 titles in the Arkoff/Nicholson library of American International Pictures-produced 1950’s classics. Usually the mere idea of remakes sends shivers of woe down our spines, but given the talent involved and the love that I know they have for these projects, we couldn't be happier.
Getting the redux treatment are the following 1950's drive-in classics: Girls in Prison, Viking Women & The Sea Serpent, The Brain Eaters, She-Creature, Teenage Caveman, Runaway Daughters, The Undead, Cool & The Crazy, The Day the World Ended, and my personal favorite, The War of the Colossal Beast. Please.... please... Please... keep the same make-up design for that one!

It has been announced that Jeff Katz, Lou Arkoff, and Hal Sadoff plan to remake 10 Aip horror titles from the 1950′s. If you’re a fan of classic horror films from the 50′s – 70′s, American International Pictures needs no real introduction. They were responsible for dozens of horror cult classics, including Roger Corman’s popular Poe adaptations starring Vincent Price.
The titles being remade are said to include: Girls In Prison, Viking Women & The Sea Serpent, The Brain Eaters, She-Creature, Teenage Caveman, Runaway Daughters, The Undead, War of The Colossal Beast, Cool & The Crazy and Day The World Ended.

Jeff Katz, Lou Arkoff, and Hal Sadoff plan to remake 10 titles in the Arkoff/Nicholson library of American International Pictures-produced 1950’s classics. That means a steady diet of antiheroes, monsters and naughty girls is back on the menu. They will start with these 1950’s drive-in classics: Girls In Prison, Viking Women & The Sea Serpent, The Brain Eaters, She-Creature, Teenage Caveman, Runaway Daughters, The Undead, War of The Colossal Beast, Cool & The Crazy and Day The World Ended. The plan is to shoot them all back to back, beginning this fall. The question will be how these films, distinguished more than anything by their titles, will play in the modern age. Aip was founded in 1954 by Samuel Z. Arkoff and James H. Nicholson, and churned out 500 low-budget, indies for teens that included the Beach Party series with Frankie Avalon and the late Annette Funicello, as well as the early films of director Roger Corman.

Last year’s biggest surprise and the first breakout sensation of the television season was NBC’s supernatural series Grimm. It invited viewers into a world where the Grimm fairytales were gruesomely real in our world today. The unknowing Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) was thrown suddenly into this murky world upon his aunt’s death and suddenly people around him looked a lot different. Some were distinctly non-human and he found out that there had been a multitude of creatures called Wesen living amongst us for centuries. Fortunately for Nick, he quickly discovered one true ally in his quest to figure out what was going on and in his fight against the Wesen: Monroe, the blutbat with a heart of gold. In an exclusive interview, Silas Weir Mitchell shared what is next in the upcoming season for Monroe, Nick and all their friends.

Y: The Last Man is a comic book written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated by Pia Guerra and was originally published by Vertigo. The series quickly proved itself as a blockbuster hit amongst readers, winning a total of five Eisner Awards in the process and has since developed a very large cult following since it’s release in 2002. The series follows the story of the last man on the planet after the entire male population of All species mysteriously dies simultaneously, leaving only Yorick and his pet monkey, Ampersand, as the last surviving [male] mammals on Earth.
The series has long been rumored to be on the short list of comic book properties to be turned into a film franchise and with the tv series Chuck coming to an end, one of the main actors who have been considered for title role, Zachary Levi, was recently asked about Collider about the status of the project.

At least, every time I’ve checked on it, it’s in production limbo. Jeff Katz at New Line grabbed it, and then when Warner Bros. gobbled up New Line, so it’s just been sitting there. I don’t know. Some terrible E3-vicinity news showed up last night from Marc Bernardin, though, and it sounds like someone ran off with his laptop. We at Splash Page hope the perpetrator meets with some justice posthaste.

The Dallas Mavericks seem to be getting more love in our feed than the Miami Heat as the NBA switches gears from the playoffs into the finals. Bulls fans may hold a grudge against LeBron James, but Dallas is the only team left in his path this year.
The comics twittersphere had loads of other matters to chat about last night as well. Brian Michael Bendis kept his "Powers" updates flowing, but writer Sterling Gates was the one keeping everyone in suspense over a supposed haunting at his apartment. Today's a day for saying goodbye in the mysterious land of Twitter-Wood. (Not for us, mind you — we're not going anywhere!) The Oprah Winfrey Show comes to an end today after 25 seasons on the air, and while many people across the globe are mourning the show's conclusion, many stars and celebs are marking the occasion with their tongue firmly in cheek.
Meanwhile, longtime "Law & Order: Svu" actor Christopher Meloni is reportedly exiting the show, leaving his fans (and some of his colleagues) in shock. But the saddest and most surprising news of all is the death of CNBC news anchor Mark Haines, who passed away unexpectedly at his home yesterday evening; his loss is marked in today's Twitter-Wood as well.
But there's happier news today, too. Two more people have discovered the awesome power of "Bridesmaids," while the long-awaited "American Reunion" finally enters production, with Stifler's mom firmly in tow.

Jokes about the Rapture have come and gone, but a very real crisis is ongoing in Joplin, Missouri as a devastating tornado tore through the Midwest over the weekend. Movie stars, writers and directors are weighing in on Twitter with pointers on how you can help with disaster relief.
In less grim news, today marks the one year anniversary of the "Lost" series finale, causing many members of the show as well as onlookers to reflect back on what was undoubtedly one of the most controversial conclusions in television history.

It was impossible to watch the Twitter Report feed last night without catching a glimpse of everyone being affected by the devastating tornado that tore through Joplin, Mo. With a climbing death toll in the dozens and horrendous photos emerging, it was good to hear accounts from those whose families and friends were safe. Nevertheless, the thoughts of the Report are with everyone impacted.
The night brought some of what we usually hope to find as well, though. Christos Gage sounded off with his micro-review of "The Book of Mormon" on Broadway, while Joe Eisma posted some beautiful Power Girl sketch work, and Jeff Katz kept the evening's "Celebrity Apprentice" commentary alive. It's a mixed bag today, but you can read it down below.

Stop the presses — turns out that "Celebrity Apprentice" host Donald Trump isn't running for president after all. The news was announced during the NBC up front presentation today, prompting a flurry of reactions from the celebrity-driven space of Twitter-Wood.
In unrelated news, "Bridesmaids" was a hit at the box office this weekend, crushing any doubts that Kristen Wiig's latest comedy couldn't achieve commercial success. It's a critical darling, too, with glowing reviews pouring in from all across the blogosphere.

"Bridesmaids" is almost here, and it looks like director Paul Feig is getting some pre-wedding jitters, if his recent tweets are any indication. Of course, he's got nothing to worry about — early buzz is very positive, with many members of the Twitter-Wood community already rallying behind the Kristen Wiig comedy.
But critical acclaim doesn't always translate to financial success, of course. Hollywood producer Jeff Katz hopped on Twitter and went over the latest tracking data for this summer's hottest movies, and some of the results may surprise you.
Plus, if you thought Sarah Michelle Gellar's anti-"Buffy" reboot stance would slow the movie's progress down, you're in for a rude awakening: screenwriter Whit Anderson says it's very much still on track.

The new "X-Men: First Class" poster that arrived for the UK this week left a bit to be desired for some mutant fans, but artist Phil Noto drew some inspiration from the the film and made his own poster. Our feed this morning kicked off with a stack of deserved compliments, and I think you'll see why down below.
Hugh Jackman, meanwhile, rarely finds time in his busy life to use Twitter, but going off of his Wolverine diet and taking a production break in Paris evidently got him in the mood today. His exuberance, a sweet Catwoman sketch from Ted Naifeh and gut feelings about "Thor" and "Dylan Dog" all made the day's retweet list.

South by Southwest is great, because even if you can't get away to Texas to check out all of the media and music nerdery going on, you can follow just about every event there via Twitter. Simon Pegg had a blast showing off his new movie "Paul," while Brett Ratner encountered some problems after leaving his cellphone in a cab.

Twitter-watching during convention weekends can be a rewarding endeavor, especially when Adam Hughes draws the White Queen and posts photographic evidence. Hughes and Yildiray Cinar both shared some artwork last night, just as reactions to Gary Busey on "Celebrity Apprentice" began rolling in.
The most famous new comics-related artwork of the weekend showed up on Google, however, in memory of Will Eisner, who would have turned 94 on Sunday. Tweets on all of these subjects, as well as a brilliant proposal for Galactus' next herald have been collected after the jump.

I'm assuming that Warren Ellis, Jhnonez Vasquez and Matt Fraction won't all be attending the same Halloween party this week, but after seeing Fraction's costume proposal yesterday and Ellis and Vasquez's today, you have to imagine that few parties could generate the kind of reactions that the three of them would walking into a room together all dressed up.

@thejillthompson Glad the WWE is milking the obvious angle in the Cena/Nexus for all of 26 minutes! What a waste of the precious minutes of my life
-Jill Thompson, Artist ("Beasts of Burden," "The Sandman")
Superman pt. 1: @GeoffJohns0 Zack Snyder. Superman. It's a good Monday in DC land.

You may have months upon months left to wait before you actually see Neil Gaiman's "Doctor Who" episode, but he did share a picture from inside the Tardis today, and he looks like he's been having a good time.
In other posts, two major events have been trending in the feed over the last 24 hours. The new "Community" season premiered last night, and its use of Spider-Man didn't escape the watchful eyes of Dan Slott. The talk of the morning has been Stephen Colbert's testimony before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees, and Border Security on the issue of migrant farm work, though. Find out who you agree with about that, as well as what Mark Millar drinks to cure a hangover after the jump.

Tardis pt. 1: @neilhimself About to steal Tardis and explore space and time.
