Bioware has announced details of Dorian from Dragon Age: Inquisition, a powerful mage from a wealthy family he rejected who also happens to be an openly gay character. “Dorian is gay—he is, in fact, the first fully gay character I’ve had the opportunity to write. It added an interesting dimension to his back story, considering he comes from a place where “perfection” is the face that every mage puts on and anything that smacks of deviancy is shameful and meant to be hidden. Dorian’s refusal to play along with that façade is seen as stubborn and pointless by his family, which has contributed to his status as a pariah.” He also kicks ass, can summon the dead to fight for him, and has full control of his magical abilities.

Ben Cotner and Ryan White deservedly won the doc directing prize at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival this past weekend for their film "The Case Against 8." Shot over five years, the film offers an incredible inside look at the legal battle behind overturning Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in California back in 2008. It's an inspiring journey that Cotner and White (along with editor Kate Amend) put together into a very powerful film about a legal battle that will and has dramatically changed the legal rights situation for gay and lesbian couples in the U.S. Indiewire sat down with Cotner, White, the four plaintiffs in the case (couples Kris Perry and Sandy Stier, and Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo -- all of whom are wonderfully charming both in the film and in person) and a couple of the cases' lawyers (somehow also all very charming) just after the very emotional premiere...

Ben Cotner and Ryan White are directing the pic which is currently in production by HBO Documentary Films. It tells the story of the people behind the historic Supreme Court case that overturned Proposition 8, California’s ban on same-sex marriage. “For the past five years, Cotner and White have had exclusive access to the work of the powerhouse legal team led by Ted Olson and David Boies as well as the four plaintiffs in the case”, Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming said today in a statement. The untitled feature will be completed by the end of this year for debut on the network in 2014. Related: Will Supreme Court Rulings Give ‘The Front Runner’ Film Momentum? Paul Katami and Jeff Zarillo were one of the two couples who were plaintiffs in the Proposition 8 case that was struck down at the Supreme Court this week. Initially it was expected that gay couples in California would not be able to get married for another few weeks, but Attorney General Kamala Harris pressured the federal appeals court to expedite things, and as of today gay and lesbian couples can get legally married in California. Harris conducted the marriage ceremony for the first couple in the Prop 8 case, and tonight, Rachel Maddow aired Katami and Zarillo's wedding for her viewers to join in the happy occasion.

West Hollywood, Calif. -- Screenwriter and gay activist Dustin Lance Black began his Proposition 8 victory speech by acknowledging that today's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community stands on the shoulders of those who had come before -- in particular, those of slain San Francisco politician Harvey Milk, the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in San Francisco.
"Harvey Bernard Milk, our dear hero, one of our father figures," began Black. "He said, 'We can no longer be satisfied with crumbs.' It is time for this community to stop asking for crumbs and demand the real thing, 'cause they may find that they could actually get it, and we have."

Scotus has spoken. And today the Supreme Court was the supremest of courts, shooting down Prop 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act ("Doma"). In the process, they made a lot of people very happy. These are the faces of just a small fraction of those people. The team that fought Prop 8 (Aka Hollingsworth v. Perry—the 2008 California ban on same-sex marriage—was made of Afer exec director Adam Umhoefer, plaintiffs Paul Katami and Jeff Zarillo, attorney David Boies, plaintiffs Kris Perry and Sandy Stier and Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin. The Proposition 8 case that was before the court was Hollingsworth v. While the Proposition 8 plaintiffs were speaking to MSNBC for a live interview today, the two same-sex couples received a call from President Obama. Speaking from Air Force One, the president offered his congratulations on today's historic gay marriage rulings. Plaintiffs Kris Perry, Sandy Stier, Jeff Zarrillo, and Paul Katami gathered together to listen to Obama's comments on speakerphone. "We're proud of you guys, and we're so glad," he said. President Obama has also issued a statement about the results, elaborating on beliefs he's expressed in the past. In March, he spoke out at an impromptu news conference against Prop. 8, saying it "doesn't provide any rationale for discriminating against same-sex couples other than just the notion, 'Well, they're same-sex couples.'" He added, "I felt it was important for us to articulate what I believe and what this administration stands for." Those same ideas were echoed today when he praised the...

The Supreme Court of the United States is hearing its first major cases dealing with gay rights in 10 years on Tuesday (March 26), when the country's top court hears arguments on California's Proposition 8, or the ban on same-sex marriage.
On Wednesday (March 27), the nine justices will consider the Defense of Marriage Act (Doma), which is the federal law that prohibits legally married homosexual couples from receiving a variety of benefits that are afford to married heterosexual couples.
The AP reports that people have been waiting in line since last Thursday to get seats to hear the arguments for and against Prop 8.
Two California couples, Kris Perry and Sandy Stier of Berkeley and Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo of Burbank, are challenging the ban, which was instituted by a popular vote. The couples are also urging the justices to not only overturn California's provision, but to strike down amendments and statutes in...

New York -- A play based on last year's federal court fight over California's gay marriage ban made its Broadway debut on Monday night with an all-star cast, only hours after a federal judge decided to unseal the trial's video recordings.
Screenwriter Dustin Lance Black's play "8" was born, in part, by frustration that Proposition 8 backers had succeeded in getting the U.S. Supreme Court to bar broadcast of the landmark case.
During the trial, former U.S. Solicitor General Theodore Olson and attorney David Boies – best known as adversaries who represented opposing sides in the disputed 2000 presidential election – put on a powerfully clear argument in favor of gay marriage. Prop. 8 was eventually ruled unconstitutional in August 2010. The case is under appeal.
Black, a member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights, wrote his play using the trial transcript, firsthand observations of the courtroom drama and interviews with the plaintiffs and their families.
