Carl Paladino lost his bid for a congressional seat representing New York’s 23rd district Tuesday after being bested by opponent Nick Langworthy — but only by a small margin.
Langworthy narrowly edged out his competitor by roughly three percentage points with 95 of precincts reported as of midnight.
The race drew national attention as Paladino, a businessman and former candidate to become New York’s governor, drew praise from the Maga wing of the Republican Party, landing endorsements from conspiracy theorists like Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.

By a vote of 223-204, the House of Reprsentatives on Wednesday has put together broad gun control legislation on what was largely a party-line vote.
The measure now moves to the Senate, where it faces a sterner test. It’s likely that anything that passes will be whittled down to draw in torn legislators for partisan support.
The vote capped a day where parents and children who have experienced mass shootings spoke before a House committee. The speakers included an 11-year-old from Uvalde, Texas, who survived that recent school shooting by smearing herself with blood and playing dead..
The House legislation includes a bid to raise the minimum age to buy semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21. The so-called “Protecting Our Kids Act” would also ban large capacity ammunition feeding devices while toughening criminal penalties for gun trafficking and “straw purchases.” There are also provisions for storage of guns in residences.

Discovery channel lifts the lid off an Egyptian Sarcophagus to find three mummies, but did they lift the curse?
History is being made on live TV, but ancient forces may still have their way. Indian Jones and his contemporaries worried about what might happen if you disturbed a mummy's final resting place. A team of Egyptian archaeologists and explorers uncovered the 2,500-year-old mummy of a high priest on live television on Discovery's Expedition Unknown: Egypt Live. The 2-hour live multi-platform event also revealed two other mummies along with a treasure trove of antiquities, including a "mysterious wax head."
The findings were unearthed live on Sunday, April 7, giving viewers a rare opportunity to join an actual archeological excavation in real time – exploring a labyrinth of underground tombs and witnessing the inner chambers of the remote burial site known as Al-Ghorifa in Middle Egypt, located approximately 165 miles south of Cairo.

Discovery President and CEO David Zaslav hauled in almost $130 million in 2018, more than tripling his 2017 executive compensation, according to a Friday SEC filing.
That huge all-in number was mostly thanks to an enormous increase in Zaslav’s options award. In 2018, that category alone surpassed $100 million.
Zaslav’s annual salary remained unchanged at just $3 million per year. His stock awards, which tallied $14.8 million, were down slightly from 2017. But those options skyrocketed from $15.6 million in 2017 to $102.1 million in 2018. Finally, Zaslav’s non-equity incentive plan compensation rose a bit last year to $9 million.

Discovery plans to flip the switch on its rebrand of the Velocity cable channel as MotorTrend Network on Nov. 23, also know as the Black Friday kickoff of the holiday shopping season.

Naughty pranks sometimes reap the best rewards.
Johnny Depp employed the cast of Velocity's Overhaulin' to prank his wife Amber Heard into believing her beloved 1968 Mustang had been stolen for the third time, when in reality, it was just getting a sweet makeover.
In a special sneak peek of the show, shared by Et, the actress got all worked up when "police officers" failed to look for her "stolen" vehicle and instead took unwarranted selfies with her and Depp.
"Get my car back!" Heard yelled at the officers, who were really host Chris Jacobs and famed custom car designer Chip Foose in disguise.

Aaron Eckhart has landed the leading role in a new biopic about tragic Beach Boys star Dennis Wilson.
The Dark Knight actor will embark on drumming lessons to perfect his transformation as Wilson in Randall Miller's new film The Drummer, which charts the last six years of the rocker's life.
Eckhart, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the Beach Boy, will also sing and play piano in the film, which will start shooting in California early in 2012.
Wilson drowned in Marina del Rey, California in 1983, shortly after he completed work on what was to become his masterpiece album, Pacific Ocean Blue.
Director Miller insists his leading man is the perfect choice to play Wilson, telling WENN, "Aaron is such a finely nuanced actor who is supremely dedicated to getting at the essence of who this rock star was. It is going to be an exciting and emotional journey."
Wilson's children Carl and Jennifer have signed on as co-producers and the film is being made with the family's blessing.
It's not the first time Wilson has been portrayed by an actor on screen - Chris Jacobs played him in Helter Skelter and Bruce Greenwood was Wilson in TV movie Summer Dreams: The Story of the Beach Boys.
More casting details will be announced in the coming weeks, including who will play former Fleetwood Mac star Christine McVie, Wilson's one-time lover.
