While “Avengers: Infinity War” topped the 17th annual Ves Awards (to be held February 5th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel) with six nominations, “Black Panther,” Marvel’s other Oscar frontrunner, was shut out. And Damien Chazelle’s acclaimed “First Man,” another frontrunner, was included in the supporting category as a result of its invisible VFX. Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns,” meanwhile, was also snubbed.
However, joining “Infinity War” in the top VFX category were a surprising list: “Ready Player One” (with five nominations), “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” “Christopher Robin” and “Welcome to Marwen.” Joining “First Man” for supporting VFX were “12 Strong,” Bird Box,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and “Outlaw King”.
In animation, Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” was the big winner with five nominations, followed by Sony’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and Disney’s “Ralph Breaks the Internet” with four. They were joined by Illumination’s “The Grinch” and Wes Anderson’s “Isle of Dogs.

Stars: Sean Connery, John Cleese, Shelley Duvall, Ian Holm, Michael Palin, Ralph Richardson, Peter Vaughan, David Warner, David Rappaport, Kenny Baker, Malcolm Dixon, Mike Edmonds, Jack Purvis, Tiny Ross | Written by Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin | Directed by Terry Gilliam
Time Bandits was first released in 1981. A family adventure film that sported a fantastic and massive cast of names, with the likes of Sean Connery, John Cleese, Shelley Duvall, Ian Holm and Michael Palin, among others. It was like a fantastical family film with the cast of Monty Python.
Director and another former Python, Terry Gilliam, who went on to direct such incredible cinematic events as Brazil, Twelve Monkeys and Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas was behind the camera here, much like he was in the Monty Python movies and it feels very similar to his previous work in many ways. Surreal and at times incredibly weird, Time Bandits just feels like a Gilliam film.

[1] In early August 2010, I had the opportunity to travel to New Orleans to visit the set of the big screen adaptation of Green Lantern. After returning from the set, I recorded a video blog with Frosty from Collider [2] -- an in depth discussion about what we saw during the visit and our early impressions. Keep in mind, we didn't see any completed computer effects rendered footage. My big takeaway from the visit is that Warner Bros isn't just making a superhero movie, but that they are making a big space opera. The scope is huge and very ambitious and I'm excited to see if they can pull it off, and if mainstream America are willing to accept the abundance of hard sci-fi elements. I can tell you, I'm excited (despite some of the early unfinished special effects shots). Watch our set visit video blog embedded after the jump. And throughout...

I am still waiting to be blown away by Green Lantern. I guess it’s still far off from getting a perfect adaptation. Still, the thought of Ryan Reynolds in the lead role and Martin Campbell directing, you would expect something to blow you away and make you say, ‘this is the movie we have been waiting for.’ The first two minute and twenty seven second trailer seems to just underwhelm and I can’t put my finger on why that is. Still, it has a cool Iron Man/Star Trek vibe too it and all the blockbuster elements for a fun film, but I guess I am expecting something epic. Maybe I should lower these expectations. That being said, Warner Brothers has released the first trailer for the film along with a new piece of promo art.

More Green Lantern news DC fans! The first film to immortalise Hal Jordan hasn’t even hit our screens yet, but of course in the manic, mass produced world of Hollywood this seems to make little difference, as news has hit that writing for Green Lantern 2 is already underway!
We’ve known for a couple of months now that a treatment for the sequel has been floating round Hollywood, but now Michael Goldenberg has been hired to get the script ready for, I’d hazard a guess, a late 2011 shoot. This isn’t the first time that Goldenberg has been involved in the Lantern project, having been brought in to work on the script during production of the first installment – set to hit cinema screens in June next year.
It’s also not the first big Hollywood production he has worked on, Goldenberg was the hired to pen Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix...

One of my most anticipated Panels this year at Comic-Con was for Green Lantern, and it was pretty freakin’ awesome!
Geoff Johns comes out to talk about the new Green Lantern film telling us how excited he is for the film, and they got right into it by showing us the first footage ever from the film!
Here's the Footage Description:
The footage they showed was an unfinished cut, but it looked absolutely amazing! It started out with with a green glowing orb and a voice over of Mark Strong as Sinestro telling the viewer to concentrate on the light in front of them.
"Welcome inhabitants of sector 2814. The Guardians have chosen you as candidates for enlistment but before you can be recruited, you must be tested. The light you see before you is controlled by your will. Focus on the light. If you will it, it will be. Now,...

Hey gang! Some more details from Warner Bros. upcoming comic book adaptation of Green Lantern have been revealed! There may be a few things that are considered spoilers so watch out.
The image that we saw of Green Lantern on the cover of EW is still a work in progress. From the neck down is basically what we see in the film. The CGI is still not finished in the image. The mask was obviously photoshopped in. The real mask will be a physical mask and not look like it's been painted on his face. 25 alien Green Lanterns, each with a different energy signature, were designed for major and minor roles in the movie. The film will mostly be based mainly Secret Origins. A key-scene in the film will feature all the 3,600 Green Lanterns! Parallax's origin is different from the comics. Fans of Sinestro will be happy to know that the mustache is untouched.

Hey Gang! Entertainment Weekly has unleashed the cover to there upcoming magazine which gives us our first look at Ryan Reynolds as The Green Lantern in his full Gc costume! It looks a lot like that early Green Lantern concept art for Sinestro that leaked out a while back. I think the design of the costume is great, and it will be awesome to see it in action! I'm excited.
Ryan Reynolds stars as Hal Jordan, a cocky test pilot who becomes a ring-wearing intergalactic superhero in this massive sci-fi epic from director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale). Though Reynolds has prior experience in the superhero realm from his role as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, playing Green Lantern involved some major challenges, like getting hurled through the air on a wire at up to 60 feet per second to create the illusion of flight. “The first time you do it, you...

Warner Bros is broadening its big-screen superhero spectrum beyond Batman and Superman with the addition of the less well-known Green Lantern, in the hope of repeating the success of Marvel's similarly second-tier Iron Man.
And with Ryan Reynolds in the title role and other cast members including Gossip Girls's Blake Lively, Mark Strong and Angela Bassett, the omens look good so far.
There's been little information at this stage - the film isn't out until next June - though we have seen leaked set pictures of Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond, a shot of the spaceship linked to Hal Jordan becoming the Green Lantern, and some images of Reynolds in a dot-covered motion-capture suit on to which the otherworldly green uniform of his character will be digitally mapped.
Now comes some more clues for fans in the form of what appears to be the official synopsis from Warner Bros.

We have been covering everything we can on The Green Lantern because its such an interesting project and a huge undertaking by the same studio that brought us Batman. Over last month we have gotten 3 major casting announcements (Blake Lively, Marc Strong and Peter Sarsgard) to follow the already known Ryan Reynolds who will be playing the title character.
Then we heard who director Martin Campbell will be bringing in to help with the production of this magnitude. Having read the script I can tell you how all the pieces are in place to make an Iron Man/Star Trek caliber style film. Released today is sort of the thought process that the filmmakers are taking to the look of some of the alien lanterns in the film. Keep in mind this is just a window into the process, the finished product may look completely different than what we get...

Are you sick of hearing about Green Lantern yet? I hope not, because you can surely expect the steady stream of news coming out of Warner Bros to continue. They.ve done a great job the past few months keeping their upcoming adaptation fresh in the minds of comic and film fans alike. It seems like once a week we.ve been getting casting updates, story details have begun to slowly trickle down, and now, in a bit of behind the scenes news, Variety is reporting that Imageworks will be working their digital mastery on the film.s visual effects. If you were hoping this would give you an idea of what the film will look like, unfortunately you.ll be sorely disappointed, since the VFX supervisors assigned to Lantern all have produced such different work. On board are Karen Goulekas and Kent Houston, who put together The Day After...
