Cursed was a very fitting title for the 2005 werewolf movie that reteamed Scream director Wes Craven with screenwriter Kevin Williamson, because studio meddling ensured that the project – which had a promising start – ended up being a mess that bombed at the box office. The journey to the screen began in the year 2000, when Williamson wrote a script about a New York-based serial killer who discovers he’s a werewolf. Dimension decided to have Sean Hood and Tony Gayton do rewrites, turning Cursed into the story of a late night TV associate producer who gets attacked by a werewolf after a car crash on Mulholland Drive. Days before Craven was set to go into production on Pulse, a remake of the Japanese horror film Kairo, Dimension pulled him off that project (it ended up being the feature directorial debut of music video director Jim Sonzero) and threw him onto Cursed, which...

“Pet Sematary director Mary Lambert is attached to helm an adaptation of Mira Grant’s mermaid thriller “Rolling in the Deep” for Branded Pictures Entertainment, Variety has learned exclusively.
Sean Hood, whose credits include Conan the Barbarian and Halloween: Resurrection, will adapt the novel, published in 2015. The story revolves around an idealistic young filmmaker who sets out to the Mariana Trench with a small crew to film a faux documentary about mermaids. But the hoax soon turns real as sailors begin to disappear and the filmmaker realizes that they are under siege by actual mermaids. A fight to survive at any cost ensues.
“‘Rolling in the Deep’ is a film led by complicated badass female characters,” Lambert said. “I’ve been waiting to make a film like this my entire career. Our mermaids are not cliché sugary cartoon princesses; they will take you down if you stand in their way.

Of all the voices in horror that have sprung up in the 2000s, Edward “Lucky” McKee is probably my favorite. His films are so uniquely his own in the way that they combine strong character work, dreamlike visuals, dark humor, pop music, and a specific attention to female protagonists and relationships; it’s an alchemy that’s hard to pinpoint, but which has a direct line to my brain and affects me in the way no one else’s work does. Both May and The Woman are, in my opinion, two of the best horror movies of the last 20 years and films no one else could have made. The same can be said of “Sick Girl,” his entry for Season 1 of Masters of Horror. While he’s the greenest of all the Masters thus far, his episode is also the purest extension of an authorial voice in the whole series.

After years of will-he-won't-he development stories, Sylvester Stallone has kicked off 2015 with the announcement that he will shortly be revisiting 'Nam-vet one-man-army John Rambo. Taking to the Twitters, he revealed that the fifth Rambo movie will almost certainly also be the final one, since he's confirmed its title as Last Blood. We've been here several times before, since the bluntly-titled fourth Rambo in 2008. The fifth film was originally touted as a south-of-the-border cartel kidnap thriller. Then it went weirdly sci-fi, then back to its original form. And then it became nothing. "The character came full circle [in the fourth film]; he went home," Sly told us in 2010. "For Rambo to go on another adventure might be misinterpreted as a mercenary gesture and not necessary."Then in 2011 came the news that Conan The Barbarian writer Sean Hood had turned in a screenplay called The Last Stand, which Hood described as a small-town thriller in the vein of First Blood,...

We learned last year that a Rambo television series was in the works with Avi Lerner, Entertainment One and New Image, but it’s been a while since we’ve heard much of anything about the long-rumored Rambo V. Is Sylvester Stallone done with the iconic character, or is there another installment on the way?
The status of a fifth film has been up in the air for some time now, but we heard in 2011 that Conan the Barbarian scribe Sean Hood was working on a screenplay in the vein of Unforgiven. Then, the next year, Hood tweeted that Rambo V would happen after The Expendables 2. Now, we’ve got an Expendables 3 hitting theaters and still no new Rambo. What gives?
It looked for a while as if Rambo V was destined to dwell in development hell for eternity. Today, however, is an exciting day for fans of the franchise,...

Beginning back in 2009, not long after Sylvester Stallone revived his Rambo character in the self-titled 2008 film, there were talks of one more sequel bringing the military veteran back to the big screen. However, in 2010, Stallone himself shut down the chatter saying, "I think Rambo's pretty well done. I don't think there'll be any more. I'm about 99 percent sure." Even when a promo poster for another Rambo film showed up at Cannes in 2011, Stallone said it wasn't a project he was working on. But then a couple months later, Conan the Barbarian writer Sean Hood revealed that he had been commissioned to write another Rambo film with a different story. And here we are in 2014, and it sounds like it just might be happening. Foreign film company Splendid Film (via ComingSoon) revealed they have bought the rights to Rambo V: "With 'Rambo V' Sylvester Stallone returns in his iconic role. This...

Hercules is a story that is in desperate need of a retelling, right? Apparently so, as at least two different Hercules themed movies are being released within a year of one another. My only hope is that the Dwayne Johnson starring vehicle will be at least entertaining, where as The Legend Of Hercules 3D is a headache in a bottle. I’m surprised that this was a widely released theatrical affair, to be honest. I’d never even heard of the film until Jeff went to see it at the theater, and came back with reports of its awfulness. I find it odd, as much time as I spend on a daily basis, on social networking sites, and other various corners of the internet, that I didn’t even see one advertisement for this film. Hercules came and went at the box office, debuting on its opening weekend at the #3 spot,...

This abysmal attempt to give Hercules an origin story falters on every dramatic, thematic and visual level possible. Was it designed to be a tax loss? Even dental extraction is more enjoyable to endure than this artistically bankrupt misfire. The only saving grace is its mercifully short length, a characteristic that's often lambasted in the bedroom but embraced at mythical Hollywood blockbuster attempts.
The foul stench of feebleness is secreted right from the opening frames of The Legend of Hercules, with an extended prologue that's more snooze-stimulator than scene-setter. An attempt to give context to the birth of the brawny Greek hero Hercules, it eschews establishing either characters or circumstances in favour of tedious swordfighting sequences in which the action is repeatedly 'frozen' by director Renny Harlin for...

More original horror-themed programming is on its way to MTV (which should just change its name already since the network hasn't focused on music-related programming in years) in the form of a new horror flick called The Dorm, and we have your details right here.
Deadline reports that the studio, which is prepping a series reboot of the Scream movie franchise, has greenlit another female-centered horror project, this time on the longform side.
MTV has ordered The Dorm, a psychological horror movie starring Alexis Knapp (pictured; Pitch Perfect). It revolves around Vivian (Knapp), an awkward college freshman who struggles with major self-esteem issues but undergoes a transformation into a flawless, seductive beauty at the hands of her new dorm mates.

Renny Harlin is a director we're quite fond of, but The Legend Of Hercules is far from his finest hour...
I've been trying to think of something nice to say about The Legend of Hercules, but it's kind of difficult to do that when a movie fails on every possible level. Perhaps the best thing I can say about the movie is that it's going to make a great Rifftrax when Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett, and Kevin Murphy get their hands on it. The second best thing I can say about it is that it's short, clocking in at only 99 minutes. That means the constant assault of insipidness ends mercifully quickly, unlike the movie's fight scenes.
As the evil king Amphitryon (Scott Adkins) grows more and more mad with power, conquering city-states and waging war in an effort to sate his blood lust, his...

A few days ago we had a chance to sit down with actor Kellan Lutz and talk about his upcoming film The Legend of Hercules.
In the epic origin story The Legend of Hercules, Kellan Lutz stars as the mythical Greek hero – the son of Zeus, a half-god, half-man blessed with extraordinary strength. Betrayed by his stepfather, the King, and exiled and sold into slavery because of a forbidden love, Hercules must use his formidable powers to fight his way back to his rightful kingdom. Through harrowing battles and gladiator-arena death matches, Hercules embarks on a legendary odyssey to overthrow the King and restore peace to the land.
The Legend of Hercules is directed by Renny Harlin (remember him) from a screenplay written by Sean Hood, and Daniel Giat.

This week we'll see the first film focusing on the mythological Greek hero Hercules with Kellan Lutz taking the lead in The Legend of Hercules (formerly known as Hercules: The Legend Begins). With a January release date and Die Hard 2 director Renny Harlin, there isn't much hope for this film that feels like a cheap 300 knock-off, but maybe the Summit Entertainment film has some surprises in store. When the first trailer for The Legend of Hercules starring Kellan Lutz was release, it went by the title Hercules: The Legend Begins. But apparently Summit Entertainment liked the new title better. If it feels like this film is being marketed very quickly, you're right. The first trailer just arrived over a couple weeks ago, and now a second full theatrical trailer is here. The film was picked up for distribution and set for a very early release swiftly, so the film is getting pushed fast and hard before arriving in just under a month. It still looks generic, and we doubt Lutz has the power to make this a success, but that's just January for you. The Hollywood recycling machine is at it again, cranking out two strikingly similar movies from one seemingly novel concept. This time around, mythological Greek hero Hercules is the ostensibly lucky character receiving two blockbuster updates within a few months of each other. While we have yet to see a trailer for Hercules: The Thracian Wars, which stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson of Fast Five fame, a new preview for the Kellan Lutz-starring Hercules: The Legend Begins hit the web today.
As directed by Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger), Hercules: The Legend Begins charts the origins of Hercules, though unfortunately you wouldn’t know it from the preview. The clip, which you can check out below, makes the fatal flaw of attempting to cram its entire plot into just over two minutes of footage:

Summit has acquired Hercules: The Legend Begins from Millennium Films which stars Kellan Lutz, and has set the film's release date for , February 7th, 2014, reports Deadline. This puts it ahead of Dwayne Johnson starrer Hercules from Paramount Pictures which opens July 25th, 2014. Also on board the cast of The Legend Begins are Scott Adkins, Johnathon Schaech, Liam Garrigan, Roxanne McKee and Rade Serbedzija. Let's be honest here, quality-wise, there's just no way you would be able to compare this film with Paramount's release, with a far better caliber of actors, and director, which opens as a summer tentpole, and should easily top the charts on its debut. Renny Harlin (Devil's Pass) directs and also wrote the screenplay alongside Sean Hood, Giulio Steve and Daniel Giat. The story follows Hercules who is sold into slavery and must get free to save his true love Hebe - the Princess of Crete (played...

Now that he’s finished terrorizing the Roman Republic, Liam McIntyre has set his sights on invading Hollywood by way of director Renny Harlin’s “Hercules 3D”. The Aussie actor has signed on to co-star in the film alongside “Twilight’s” Kellan Lutz, who is set to play the musclebound Greek hero. In the film, McIntyre will play Sotiris, “a young army captain who becomes Hercules’ most trusted battlefield companion. After an evil king deceives them, Hercules and the captain are sold into slavery and must fight side by side to earn their freedom.” McIntyre is coming off Starz Channel’s recently wrapped “Spartacus: War of the Damned”, where he took over the title role after actor Andy Whitfield fell ill and passed away. “Hercules 3D” will mark McIntyre’s first foray into Hollywood, which is ironic since the $70 million dollar budgeted film is set to shoot in Bulgaria this May.

Levelling up from slave to soldier, Spartacus: War Of The Damned star Liam McIntyre has just joined the cast of Renny Harlin's Hercules. By all accounts he'll be playing an important sidekick of Kellan Lutz's demigod. Harlin's is the Nu Image / Millennium version of the story, not to be confused with Brett Ratner's Paramount / MGM take that's also on its way to production, starring Dwayne Johnson ("I'm Hercules." "I'm Hercules."). Harlin has previously said that his is a more historically grounded story, as opposed to Ratner's comic book shenanigans.McIntyre, Harlin says, is playing "military commander Soltiris, Hercules' best friend. Their relationship begins antagonistic but develops into a close bond forged in battle. Liam is infinitely entertaining to watch. We're lucky to have him."Les Welden and Danny Lerner are producing, with Avi Lerner among the executive producers. The screenplay is by Steve Giulio and Sean Hood...

This week we reported that a separate Hercules movie was in the works with Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger) in the director's chair. Superherohype has shared a poster for Hercules 3D. The film has been in development since 2007, and has a script penned by Sean Hood and Hanna Weg.
Here is what Harlin had to say about the film:
It's not a comic book, cartoony fantasy thing. It's closer to Gladiator than flying horses. I think these are very different kinds of movies in their approach to this legendary character. Obviously, Hercules has been portrayed in many different films, such as the Disney animated movie. I wish them luck. Ancient Greek mythology is an endless source of good stories ... Let's see both movies be successful.

Harlin has yet to cast his film but will rush into production to beat rival Hercules movie directed by Brett Ratner
Die Hard 2 director Renny Harlin is returning to Hollywood film-making, after signing on to direct one of two competing Hercules movies.
Harlin, whose career took a nosedive in the mid-1990s with the infamous Geena Davis box office bomb Cutthroat Island, has been handed a $70m (£44m) budget for Hercules 3D. The film will be fast-tracked into production in an effort to beat a rival Brett Ratner-directed film about the Greek demigod into cinemas.
Ratner's version already has Dwayne Johnson in the lead and is expected to hit the big screen in August 2014. Harlin's take does not yet have a cast but is nevertheless heading to multiplexes five months earlier, with a shoot in Sofia, Bulgaria, as soon as May this year.

Western culture is ripe with Greek mythology which has remained in the consciousness of Westerners for years, so much so that a production with such imaginings seems to be quite fruitful. That’s what would be next for Millennium Studios and Renny Harlin.
Since 2007, “Hercules 3D” has been in the works, first written by Sean Hood and Hanna Weg. Not only does it have to fight the ill omen of delay, but also a competing project with much more hype: Brett Ratner’s “Hercules: The Thracian Wars.” Unlike “Hercules 3D,” this interpretation will come August of 2014, and seems to have all the trappings of a summer action blockbuster. This is especially true when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will play Hercules.
Millennium’s version will seem to be a trifle bit more dramatic.
Harlin says:
“It’s not a comic book, cartoony fantasy thing. It’s closer to ‘Gladiator’ than flying horses.
