In NBC's 1960s-set thriller, Aquarius, Gethin Anthony (Game of Thrones) plays Charles Manson, and with Aquarius premiering tonight, we participated in an interview call with Anthony, who discussed portraying Manson, working with David Duchovny, and more.
Anthony on what drew him to the series and the role of Charles Manson:
Gethin Anthony: My first and strongest reaction to reading the script from a Saturday morning back in London last year was I got really strong reactions to the authenticity of the dialogue that had been written for the Manson character and the characters around him in that world. I was aware somewhat of that era of history in U.S. history, but [John McNamara's] dialogue was really authentic and it made me want to dig deeper into understanding the late ’60s. [That] they could have the courage to make a show about such sensitive subject matter with authenticity excites me.

During last night’s Super Bowl, all eyes and all talk was mainly concerned with either the actual sporting event itself, the bizarre mid-show extravaganza or the Jurassic World trailer. Of course, many other big-name films debuted super-mix teasers to appeal to those watching at home as well, and it seems that amidst all the excitement, we seem to have missed one particularly cool trailer – NBC’s next event series, Aquarius.
Like all teasers dotted between the gameplay, this preview is rather brief. That’s not to say it isn’t exciting, though. David Duchovny, who stars in the show, seems as magnetic as ever, albeit in a less iconoclastic role than he’s used to playing. This time he’s cast as L.A.P.D. Sgt. Sam Hodiak, in a show that will explore the life of cult leader and conspiracist, Charles Manson.

One new series we're really looking forward to is NBC's "Aquarius," starring David Duchovny, and if you are, too, here's a juicy casting update for the show, including who'll be portraying the infamous leader of the Manson family.
Per TVLine, Gethin Anthony (pictured; best known as Renly Baratheon in "Game of Thrones"), Grey Damon ("Friday Night Lights," Oldboy), and Emma Dumont ("Bunheads") have all signed on for the 13-episode "event" series, which stars Duchovny as a cop who goes undercover to track Manson and his brood.
Anthony will portray Manson, described here as the “archetypal authentic hippie freak” whose intense charisma draws young followers to him in droves. A jailbird who has spent half his life in prison, Manson dominates his young female followers through a combination of sex, drugs, and a paternalistic and caring attitude that masks his inner evil.
