Through its first six seasons, identifying who voiced one of the many aliens, critters, or goobers on Rick and Morty was a pretty easy thing to do. That’s because, in addition to performing as the titular lead characters, co-creator Justin Roiland also embodied most of the show’s strange background players.
Following season 6, however, Roiland was fired from the series due to receiving domestic battery charges (later dropped) and multiple allegations of sexual assault. With Roiland gone, multiple actors have stepped in to fill the roles of Rick, Morty, and the whole other host of characters from the Adult Swim hit’s increasingly large constellation of galaxies, timelines, and multiverses. Even without the personnel change midway through, Rick and Morty‘s cast of voice actors was already pretty confusing beast to make sense of. So let’s try to do exactly that.

In March of 2014, I met Dan Harmon at Burbank’s venerable Smoke House for a long interview. We were there to talk about his unexpected return to Community, the NBC comedy he created and ran for three seasons, before being forced out for a year. But this was only a few months into the run of Harmon’s other TV project, the Adult Swim sci-fi comedy Rick and Morty, which Harmon created with Justin Roiland, who also provided the voices of the title characters. (“Rixty Minutes,” one of my favorite episodes,...

Rick and Morty is back with more of the same deranged interdimensional adventures but some notably different voices in the new trailer for Season Seven.
The clip offers the first glimpse at Rick and Morty following the ouster of creator/lead performer Justin Roiland, who was fired in January after it was revealed that he’d been charged with domestic violence (those charges were ultimately dismissed). At the time of Roiland’s firing, Rick and Morty’s network, Adult Swim, announced the show would continue without him, even though he...

“Rick and Morty” has dropped a Season 7 trailer that features the new voices for the duo originated by creator Justin Roiland.
“Rick and Morty are back and sounding more like themselves than ever! It’s Season 7, and the possibilities are endless: what’s up with Jerry? Evil Summer?! And will they ever go back to the high school?! Maybe not! But let’s find out! There’s probably less piss than last season. ‘Rick and Morty,’ 100 years! Or at least until season 10!” the official season description states.
Roiland, who has voiced both titular characters since the long-running animated series premiered back in 2013, was charged with felony domestic violence related to an incident that first surfaced in a January 2020 criminal complaint.
Following the news, Adult Swim cut ties with Roiland but noted that the show would continue without his involvement. In February, an individual with knowledge of the matter told TheWrap...

Rick and Morty is returning for its seventh season on Adult Swim this fall. The cable channel has announced a premiere date for the episodes, the first not to feature the voice of series co-creator Justin Roiland.
In August 2020, Roiland was arrested and charged with felony domestic battery and false imprisonment. NBC News reported the charges early this year, before the pre-trial hearing. Multiple people came forward with their own allegations of abuse, including a female writer on the show's staff who claimed sexual harassment. Adult Swim severed ties with Roiland. The felony charges were dropped due to insufficient evidence, but the cable channel has not brought Roiland back. His characters have been recast with unknown soundalike actors.

It's been a while since season 6 of "Rick and Morty" concluded, and a lot has happened in the meantime. Most notably, news came out that the show's co-creator and most prominent voice actor, Justin Roiland, had been charged with domestic battery and false imprisonment in May 2020. Since then, there have been a number of other sexual assault allegations made against Roiland, as well as news that he was involved in a settled sexual harassment lawsuit back in 2019. In the end, Roiland was removed from both the cast and creative team, with Adult Swim announcing that his characters would be replaced with soundalike voice actors.
Outside of Roiland's absence, there are plenty of other concerns and questions "Rick and Morty" fans have had over the past year. How will the show deal with this new evil Rick? Is the show really going to embrace a serialized structure, as Rick's final monologue implied?...

“Rick and Morty” will return on Oct. 15 for a 10-episode Season 7. New episodes of the Adult Swim original will premiere at 11 p.m. Et/Pt.
This season will debut in over 134 countries in 38 languages. In the U.S., new episodes will be available for digital purchase the day after they premiere linearly on Adult Swim. Season 7 is then expected to come to streaming in 2024.
In 2022 alone, the sci-fi animated comedy reached over 19 million viewers on linear broadcast and remains one of Max’s top series. It’s spawned video games, interactive fan experiences, customized ads and — for a short time — a notorious McDonald’s sauce revival. The series was the No. 1 comedy on all of cable from Season 3 to Season 6, according to a press release from Adult Swim. “Rick and Morty” has won two Emmys and is currently nominated for a third thanks to its Season 6 episode, “Night Family.”

Typically, when it comes to choosing a “Rick and Morty” episode to submit for Emmys consideration, it’s a struggle to find a non-canon-heavy show that can “really blow an Emmy voter’s mind but still be palatable to anybody,” executive producer Steve Levy told TheWrap.
“That’s the hope at least,” he said.
Season 6’s “Night Family” met those parameters, an installment that simultaneously manages to hone on this family’s complex dynamics, serve as a pitch-perfect horror homage and push the animation “to a whole new level” without requiring hours of backstory to understand. But there’s another reason why this episode stands as an especially smart selection for the sci-fi-series. On nearly every creative level, “Night Family” showcases how Dan Harmon’s Adult Swim can adapt and has evolved.

The TV academy has honored voice-only performances since 1992, when six cast members from “The Simpsons” collectively became the first actors to receive Emmys for such work. The Best Voice-Over Performance category became an official non-juried one in 2009 and was then split into two categories in 2014: Best Character Voice-Over and Best Narrator. Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) was the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.
The 2023 Best Character Voice-Over ballot consists of 148 performances, which is down by 74 from last year. Seeking her third victory is Maya Rudolph, who plays Connie the Hormone Monstress on “Big Mouth.” Also in the mix are former winners Shearer, Hank Azaria (“The Simpsons”), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”), and Seth MacFarlane (“Family Guy”).

A significant change is ahead for the Rick and Morty series. The characters voiced by co-creator Justin Roiland, including the show's title characters, are being replaced via dubbing.
Created by Roiland and Dan Harmon, the Rick and Morty show revolves primarily around the relationship and travels of the two main characters. Rick is an eccentric and alcoholic mad scientist who goes on adventures with his 14-year-old kind-hearted and grounded grandson, Morty. The rest of the voice cast includes Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer, and Sarah Chalke.
In January, Roiland was charged with two counts of felony domestic violence. Those charges were later dropped due to insufficient evidence, but Adult Swim has decided to stand by the decision made at that time to part ways with Roiland and recast his characters.

Only two things are certain in every universe: chaos and a never-ending stream of new “Rick and Morty” seasons. After nearly 10 years on the air and six seasons, “Rick and Morty” has come a long way from edgy “Back to the Future” parody to cultural juggernaut. The animated series has permanently impacted internet and TV culture, whether through the absurdity of Pickle Rick or causing a nationwide rush to McDonalds to obtain a singular packet of Szechuan sauce.
“Rick and Morty” is a sci-fi comedy series co-created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon about the interdimensional adventures between alcoholic irresponsible scientist Rick (voiced by Roiland) and his teenage grandson Morty (also Roiland). The rest of the cast includes Morty’s disliked and dismissed father Jerry (Chris Parnell), Rick’s stressed daughter Beth (Sarah Chalke), and Morty’s older sister Summer (Spencer Grammer).

It’s been 12 years since “Greek” wrapped its run on ABC Family — which of course, is now Freeform — but the cast is still hoping to see a revival of the show someday. And yes, that includes Jake McDorman.
While on the red carpet for his new Peacock series “Mrs. Davis,” McDorman was quick to jump on board when TheWrap floated the idea of a revival series, enthusiastically noting that he and his former co-stars all still talk regularly.
“Yeah! I’m still friends with all those guys, we talk all the time,” McDorman said. “The guys, we all kind of live close — in fact, I think, I talked to Clark Duke earlier, I think he’s gonna be here — but me, Scott, Pj, Jacob Zachar, Clark, we’re all still super close, so I know we’d be down.”

“Rick and Morty” is expected to fulfill its 70-episode order despite Adult Swim’s recent decision to cut ties with creator Justin Roiland, who has been charged with felony domestic violence related to an incident that first surfaced in a January 2020 criminal complaint.

Adult Swim has cut ties with Emmy-winning “Rick and Morty” co-creator Justin Roiland, nearly two weeks after he was charged with felony domestic violence related to an incident first surfaced in a January 2020 criminal complaint.
The network confirmed to TheWrap that it has “ended its association” with the creative. However, “Rick and Morty” will continue, the show’s official Twitter account announced.

The Last Leg has divided viewers after sharing their version of a football anthem to mark the World Cup 2022.
The football tournament kicked off in Qatar on Sunday (20 November), with England winning their first match 6-2 against Iran the following day.
After the win on Tuesday (21 November), the sports comedy show The Last Leg shared their anthem for the World Cup on social media, which was first broadcast during the episode on Friday (18 November).
To the tune of David Baddiel, Frank Skinner, and The Lightning Seeds’ track “Three Lions”, the parody song points to some of the controversies attached to the event and its host country.
Issues have included reports of mistreatment of migrant workers as well as Qatar’s criminilisation of homosexuality.
In The Last Leg’s version of the song, “It's becoming homophobic” is sung in place of the original chant: “It’s coming home, it’s coming.

Grammar, 39, is best known for voicing the role of Summer in the hit adult animation series. Prior to her role on Rick and Morty, she also starred in the ABC series Greek, which ran from 2007 to 2011.
In July 2020, the actor was stabbed through the hand after trying to break up a fight in New York City.
Grammar, who is the daughter of Frasier star Kelsey Grammar, suffered nerve damage and two severed tendons during the incident, which is still undergoing investigation. She had to undergo surgery.

From The Simpsons to Family Guy to South Park, certain animated shows seem to keep going and going, but could Rick and Morty be one of them? Series co-creator Justin Roiland certainly thinks so.
From the very first episode, Rick and Morty established just how long the series could last (100 years!) and Justin Roiland told Total Film that he doesn’t see the series concluding anytime soon. “There’s obviously some kind of narrative threads that you want to push towards some kind of resolution,” Roiland said. “But I think this show, like a lot of other really awesome animated shows that I love, has the potential to just go and go and go.” Adult Swim has a lot of faith in the series, even giving it an unprecedented 70-episode renewal back in 2018. Roiland points to an “infinite” amount of sci-fi stories in the multiverse that could keep the series going for years to come.

I’ll be honest right up front and admit that I have never seen a single episode of Rick and Morty. I have completely missed out on this pop culture phenomenon. I know there are shades of Back to the Future to it, I’ve heard about Pickle Rick and the love of Szechuan Sauce. But I haven’t actually seen any of it. But I am familiar with the work of Claymation filmmaker Lee Hardcastle, who has made a lot of cool shorts, created the music video for the Gunship song “Tech Noir”, and contributed to the horror anthology The ABCs of Death. So it’s cool to hear that the Rick and Morty folks have teamed up with Hardcastle for a horror short that is going to premiere at midnight on Sunday, October 30th on Adult Swim. The short will then be available to watch on HBO Max the next day,...

This article contains spoilers for Rick and Morty Season 6
Rick and Morty fans are no stranger to waiting lengthy periods of time for new episodes. Seasons 2 and 3 and seasons 3 and 4 each had a two year wait between them, with season 4 having a midseason gap of nearly five months between the broadcast dates of episodes 5 and 6. Thankfully, the last two years have seen a pretty regular influx of new Rick and Morty episodes, with seasons 5 and 6 premiering close to a year apart. But that doesn’t mean that learning the series would be taking another break in the middle of season 6 didn’t hurt a little.
Season 6 is arguably one of the series’ best so far, deciding to finally explore and add more to its canon without shirking the creators’ ability to do whatever the heck they want to. So far this season, we’ve learned that Morty’s (Justin Roiland) real grandpa,...

The longer that “Rick and Morty” goes on, the more weight it carries. That often comes in the form of expectations. It also now has almost six full seasons of ideas it’s already tried, one-off chips it’s already cashed in, and character layers that are a lot easier to take off than they are to add on.
It’s not like “Rick and Morty” is this sacrosanct bit of culture that can’t be toyed with. The show itself is quick to joke about the ways it’s fudged canon and reworked certain ideas over time. But as is inevitable for something as unwieldy and obsessed over as it is for a notable chunk of its audience, this show was always destined to fold in on itself. In its impressive Season 6 — on temporary hiatus until toward the end of next month — “Rick and Morty” has figured out how...

For a good long while, it seemed that the parody had become the lowest possible form of comedy. With such abhorrent cinematic garbage piles like the works of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer dominating the form for nearly a decade, it felt like almost no one even knew how to make a decent parody anymore, let alone a good one.
Enter Dan Harmon. Thanks to his groundbreaking sitcom "Community" and its numerous episodes that parodied everything from specific classic movies to genres, he and his writers proved that parody could be more than just empty references and callbacks. Putting down-to-earth characters who go to a community college inside a pseudo-zombie apocalypse, as in one episode, is an extension of the way Edgar Wright made films first and parodies second in his early work like "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz."

TV show brand deals: they're usually corny, often unimaginative, and almost always impossible for viewers to witness while maintaining suspension of disbelief. Nothing ruins a dramatic moment like a character suddenly stopping to compliment a car's upholstery, and nothing makes a lovable show more annoying than seeing its characters hawking wares on commercials 10 times a day.
But if there's one way a series can integrate brand deals with its existing universe without alienating viewers, it's by going fully meta with it. Dan Harmon took this approach with "Community" years ago, and now his "Rick and Morty" co-creator Justin Roiland is doing the same with the Adult Swim animated series. Since the show began, its titular characters have popped up all over the place, selling Pringles and PlayStations, and rhapsodizing about the appeal of Carls Jr. burgers and Old Spice deodorant.

This was no easy feat, as there are many fantastic episodes to choose from and very few duds. Just because an episode is not on this list doesn’t mean it isn’t thoroughly enjoyable!

"Rick and Morty" has been around just shy of a decade, but if it never went any further, its legacy as one of this generation's most beloved animated shows would already be firmly cemented. A large (and perhaps under-discussed) part of that has to do with Spencer Grammer, who plays Summer and has been a core piece of the puzzle from the very beginning. Sure, her name's not in the title of the show, but some of the best bits and episodes revolve around Summer Smith, and Grammer is owed a lot of credit for that. It turns out she also deserves some credit for sticking with the show, as she was pressured to leave the series at one point.

Writer and showrunner Dan Harmon is no stranger to interpersonal conflicts between creatives. He's somewhat notorious for causing havoc behind-the-scenes, whether it's clashing with Chevy Chase and the network hard enough on the set of "Community" to get fired, or just acting like a jerk — but the good news is that he's constantly growing as a person. He gave one of the best formal apologies of all time to writer Megan Ganz after sexually harassing her on the set of "Community," and he created the podcast "Whiting Wongs" with writer Jessica Gao after she called him out for some of his toxic white male behavior.
Harmon has come a long way from his early days in the business, and has gotten better at working with other people. In a roundtable interview attended by /Film's Ethan Anderton, Harmon explained that working on "Rick and Morty" really pushed him to be more comfortable with collaborators,...

"Rick and Morty" is coming on up its 10th anniversary, even though the show is only premiering its sixth season in September. Thankfully, the hang-ups that delayed its production were done away with when Adult Swim renewed the series for a whopping 70 episodes back in 2018. They've still got 40 episodes left in that contract, which means there's plenty more "Rick and Morty" to come. But does co-creator Justin Roiland see that as the potential conclusion for the series? Don't count on it.
With the multiverse getting crazier and crazier in "Rick and Morty," it feels like the show could go on forever. Leading up to the sixth season premiere on September 4, we spoke with Justin Roiland and his co-star Spencer Grammer (the voice of Summer) about the endurance of the show, the multiverse mayhem, and the rich mythology that not only informs the show's narrative but also the comedy.

We’re just a month away from the release of Rick and Morty season 6, and Adult Swim has released the first trailer for the acclaimed animated series.
The Rick and Morty season 6 trailer is jam-packed with sci-fi weapons (like Summer’s Wolverine claws), call-outs to Die Hard, a befuddled and helpless Jerry, and so much more. There’s also the return of the Roy video game, where players take control of a regular guy and play through their entire life. I can’t wait to see what else the new season has in store. “It’s hard to overstate the impact of Rick and Morty,” said Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim and Cartoon Network. “More than a hit show, it is truly a global phenomenon. As we prepare to launch this soon-to-be iconic season, we will be giving fans a unique way to be part of the fun – so keep your eyes peeled.

“Rick and Morty” Season 6 is finally upon us, and Adult Swim has dropped the official trailer for the new season that teases more sci-fi shenanigans than you can handle.
While the trailer doesn’t get too deep on any kind of serialized plot for the new season, there are noticeable callbacks to locations and events from prior seasons, and some terrifically snappy dialogue to which “Rick and Morty” are accustomed.
The new season arrives just a little over a year after Season 5 debuted, putting the beloved animated series on a more consistent track than the longer gaps between earlier seasons. Indeed, it was a full two years between Seasons 3 and 4, but fans can look forward to catching the first episode of Season 6 on Sept. 4 – almost exactly one year since the Season 5 finale.

Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) made history as the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.
The 2022 Best Character Voice-Over ballot list below consists of a whopping 222 performances. Seeking a third consecutive victory is Maya Rudolph, who plays Connie the Hormone Monstress on “Big Mouth.” Also in the mix are former winners Shearer, Hank Azaria (“The Simpsons”), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”), and Seth MacFarlane (“Family Guy”).
Unlike the live action and fictional program nominees, which are chosen by all 22,000 plus academy members, the Best Character Voice-Over contenders are picked only by voters...

Adult Swim has found the new voice of Squidbillies‘ Early Cuyler ahead of the show’s final season.
After a competitive search (watch the video below), Tracy Morgan landed the role of the balding hillbilly squid from Georgia over several Adult Swim favorites including George Lowe (the voice of Space Ghost), Spencer Grammer (Rick and Morty‘s Summer), Steve Blum (aka T.O.M. of Toonami) and Squidbillies co-creator Dave Willis.
Morgan replaces actor Stuart D. Baker who was fired from the long-running animated series in August 2020 over “extremely offensive and derogatory social media posts” disparaging entertainer Dolly Parton and Black Lives Matter.
Morgan can currently be seen starring as Tray Barker on TBS’ The Last O.G., now in its fourth season. Morgan also is an executive producer on the show. He’s probably best known for his role as Tracy Jordan in the sitcom 30 Rock (2006–2013), and for his...

We know we have a whole lot of "Rick and Morty" in our future, since show creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland signed a 70-episode deal with Adult Swim. What's less clear, however, is when we'll see the remaining episodes after the season 5 finale airs this September.
In a recent interview, Spencer Grammer — who voices Morty's big sister, Summer — gave us a hint as to when we may likely expect to see the next season.
In an interview with Inverse, Grammer shared what she knew about the writing process for seasons 6 and 7:
"I keep saying, there's gonna be so many more episodes. They're...

This summer’s San Diego Comic-Con once again invites fans to sit on their couches and enjoy the pop culture extravaganza from the safety of their homes. There is one difference from last year’s virtual event, however: It will be an abbreviated one, taking place over three days, from Friday, July 23 through Sunday, July 25 — but there are still a bevy of TV show panels on the lineup, which will be streaming for free via YouTube.
Note: Yes, there will again be a DC Fandome virtual event this year (on Oct. 16), where in 2020 shows such as The Flash, Titans, Batwoman...
