The report goes on to reveal that Rebecca Ferguson has clinched the role of Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind, with Hugh Jackman primed to take point as P.T. Barnum. Variety is reporting that actor Zac Efron is in negotiations to star alongside Hugh Jackman in 20th Century Fox's "The Greatest Showman On Earth." Director Michael Gracey is signed on to direct the contemporary musical from a script by screenwriter Jenny Bicks. Chernin Entertainment is producing with Laurence Mark and Hugh Jackman.
The premise for Jackman's character says he will play "the showman with a specialty in hoaxing a gullible public as he creates the three-ring Barnum & Bailey Circus that made him famous. Barnum had gained fame as a 19th Century impressario with tours of Tom Thumb and the singer Jenny Lind; he began calling it the “Greatest Show on Earth” near the end of his career."
Zac Efron can be seen in Universal Pictures' "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising" and also in 20th Century Fox's "Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates" next month.

Spencer Susser last night.
American filmmaker Spencer Susser has a long history in Australia.
He was camera operator on Nash Edgerton's shorts Lucky, Spider and Bear, and collaborated with David Michôd on I Love Sarah Jane, a zombie short starring a pre-Alice Mia Wasikowska, and on his feature debut, Hesher, starring Joseph Gorden-Levitt.
Since then he's directed an episode of the TV show Hemlock Grove, and made several shorts - one of which took out Tropfest's top prize last night.
Shiny is a brief (less than four minutes) stop-motion animation Susser made with fellow Los Angeleno Daniel 'Cloud' Campos, a former dancer who toured with Madonna and is, according to Susser, "quite a well known B-boy".
The pair met through a mutual friend, Australian director Michael Gracey, and discovered a shared "let's-go-make-stuff gene", said Susser.

Western, English-language, live-action adaptations of Japanese manga haven't so far fared terribly well. Things like Fist Of The North Star and Dragonball: Evolution are probably best forgotten, while Akira can't catch a break, talk of a Shane Black Death Note went nowhere until Adam Wingard picked it up recently, and we haven't even heard much about Dreamworks' Ghost In The Shell lately. Nevertheless, the vast Naruto franchise is the latest to enter American development, with Lionsgate negotiating for the film rights, and Michael Gracey in the frame to direct.First published in 1997, Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto currently stretches to 72 volumes of manga and 220 anime episodes. Not including spin-offs like the ten anime movies. The manga has more than 200 million copies in print, and is the third best-selling in history, after One Piece and Dragon Ball.Obviously the story is far too vast to summarise quickly, but the basic premise revolves around the adolescent Naruto Uzumaki,...
