Brian Helgeland's 2001 film "A Knight's Tale" is based on the first of the Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, but it has as much to do with 14th-century medieval literature as "Wayne's World." The film features characters singing Queen songs and one of the characters invents the Nike "swoop" as a brand for her armor. The story involves William Thatcher (Heath Ledger) a handsome young cove who aims to win jousting tournaments and be welcomed as one of the king's knights. It's a raucous, lightweight, silly movie that is deeply beloved by a very specific age group, that is: those who were between 15 and 17 in May of 2001.
It also depicted Ledger at the height of his heartthrob powers, as well as Paul Bettany (as Chaucer), Rufus Sewell as the villain, Shannyn Sossamon as Ledger's would-be paramour, and a trio of brilliant comedian sidekicks in Mark Addy, Laura Fraser, and Alan Tudyk.

Aside from being a rollicking, romantic romp, The Mummy (1999) has carved out an iconic place among movie lovers for what Tor.com’s Leah Schnelbach describes as its chaotic bisexual energy. Here is a movie with an ensemble cast whose combined hotness, sheer charisma, and bucking of gender and societal norms make it so that anyone can see themselves in a variety of characters—and perhaps make some breakthroughs in realizing who they’re attracted to.
As Maggie Tokuda-Hall summed up, “Hot people being horny on main; campy violence; himbos.” But while The Mummy is a unique modern classic, it’s not the only one to spark a bisexual awakening among fans: May I present its equally chaotic bisexual contemporary, Brian Helgeland’s delightful 2001 film, A Knight’s Tale.

The last ride of Jimmy McGill is almost upon us. Better Call Saul season 6 will be the show’s last season and it will once and for all showcase the final transition of loveable up-and-coming lawyer Jimmy McGill into scummy criminal (emphasis on criminal) lawyer Saul Goodman. If Breaking Bad was the story of one man’s transition from Mr. Chips to Scarface, Better Call Saul is the story of one man caught between the idealized version of himself that he knows he could be and the less than reputable version of himself the world sees him as. This season, the idealized version will lose the fight, but he’ll surely go down swinging.
In official statement, showrunner Peter Gould had this to say about the final season of Better Call Saul:
“From day one of Better Call Saul, my dream was to tell the complete story of our complicated and compromised hero,...

Some films are appreciated from the start — the big blockbusters find their audiences or the acclaimed indies find the critical raves right out of the gate. Then there are films that are ahead of their time, that find a bigger audience as they age, where the appreciation might come a little later thanks to DVDs or television viewings.
When “A Knight’s Tale” opened in theaters on May 11, 2001, it wasn’t without fanfare. It featured rising star Heath Ledger in the lead, a writer-director hot off an Oscar win and a lot of buzz for the fact it mixed modern music with its medieval setting. It made its money back, had its fans and was notable for its fresh-faced cast who would go on to prominent careers. But it wasn’t a runaway hit; some were confused by the anachronisms and simply couldn’t get past a film about jousting that...

(L-r) ‘The Pact’ leads Abbie Hern, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Laura Fraser, Eiry Thomas and Heledd Gwynn.
As Wentworth was coming to an end on Foxtel, its originating screenwriter Pete McTighe was keen to create another female-led ensemble series, but one with a point of difference.
Having lived in Wales for three years, crafting episodes of the BBC’s Doctor Who and the Sky/AMC/BBCAmerica supernatural drama A Discovery of Witches, he came up with the idea of a contemporary crime thriller set in Wales.

Giancarlo Esposito is a dual Emmy nominee this year, landing a second consecutive Drama Supporting Actor nod for his work on “Better Call Saul”; he is also up for Drama Guest Actor for Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian.” For his “Better Call Saul” bid, he has submitted the seventh episode of the fifth season, “Jmm.” Esposito reprises his iconic role from “Breaking Bad,” Gus Fring: charming head of fast food chain “Los Pollos Hermanos” by day, menacing drug boss by night. His submitted episode sees his character plot moves in the drug war with the Salamanca family.
In “Jmm,” Gus is at a board meeting presenting his new “Spicy Curls,” which he describes as “the curly fries with the South Western kick.” They are a big hit with Peter (Norbert Weisser), the CEO of the parent company. Back at his hotel room, he puts on the “Do Not Disturb” sign and...

The following contains spoilers for Better Call Saul season 5.
In Better Call Saul season 5 episode 7, “Jmm,” Gus Fring takes a little trip to Houston, Texas. He’s not there to see the rodeo at Reliant Stadium (now Nrg Stadium), though he does presumably check that out. He’s not even there to share the good news about El Pollo Hermanos’ superb sales reports, though he does that too.
No, Gus heads to Houston to meet with two of his Madrigal Electromotive accomplices, Peter Schuler (Norbert Weisser) and Lydia Rodarte-Quayle (Laura Fraser) about setbacks on a project very important to Better Call Saul and the larger Breaking Bad universe altogether. Yes, after being hinted at previously, the enormous German conglomerate Madrigal Electromotive (or Madrigal Elektromotoren GmbH in the original German) is now fully a part of this story. Here is why that’s important and what it might mean for the show going forward.

With the season five premiere of Better Call Saul this Sunday, you might be looking back at Breaking Bad fondly. AMC has you covered. Earlier this week, they quietly dropped a Bad short titled “Snow Globe,” featuring the eerily chipper drug dealer/manufacturer Todd (Jesse Plemons) and the voice of fancy meth businesswoman, Lydia (Laura Fraser).
In the brief clip, Todd — who is besotted with Lydia — makes her a bizarre snow globe featuring plastic versions of the two of them, plus a giant ladybug, some barrels of meth and a teacup.

Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad actress Laura Fraser and Bodyguard star Anjli Mohindra are set to make guest appearances in Doctor Who season 12.
As is usually the way with Doctor Who, the BBC did not reveal any details about their characters because it will give away plot points before the series premieres on BBC One and BBC America on New Year’s Day.
Fraser offered one solitary clue, saying her character is “intense.” The actress, who also starred in BBC One’s The Missing, added: “I watched Doctor Who every week as a child, so it was a massive thrill to be asked to take part in such an iconic show.”
Mohindra played recurring villain Rani Chandra in Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures but will take on a new role in the so-called Whoniverse, in which she said she plans on “bringing some terror.”

"Mom... the stars are moving." 4Digital Media has debuted an official trailer for an eerie, scary sci-fi thriller titled Dark Encounter, the latest film from UK filmmaker Carl Strathie (his feature debut was the high concept space thriller Solis from last year). Written & directed by Strathie, Dark Encounter is about a family who starts to notice strange things - lights, sounds, weird things in the woods. All of this begins a year after their young daughter went missing, and might answer the question of where she went. The film stars Laura Fraser, Mel Raido, Alice Lowe, Sid Phoenix, Grant Masters, Vincent Regan, and Spike White. This looks a bit like most other aliens-in-the-woods thrillers, but there is a quality that makes it stand out. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Carl Strathie's Dark Encounter, direct from 4Digital's YouTube: A year after Maisie Anderson mysteriously vanished, her family returns...

A group of grieving friends gather at a remote lakeside and start telling spooky stories in this effective comedy-horror
As the title suggests, this portmanteau film winks at the multi-stranded spookfest Tales from the Crypt (1972), but this time with even more winking and a fair few nudges thrown in for good measure. The umbrella narrative finds five university chums in their late 30s – two couples and another bloke, Paul (Dustin Demri-Burns) who’s brought along his trashy new girlfriend, Miki (Kelly Wenham) – assembling at a remote lakeside cabin to scatter the ashes of a sixth pal who drowned there a few years back, the result of a misadventure, suicide or maybe something more sinister.
There’s good-natured sniping over who forgot to bring food, moaning over the lack of phone signal and bitchier remarks from tart-tongued Martha (Laura Fraser) directed at Miki, who no one really likes. With well-timed rhythms and backchat,...

Urban legends about a masked slasher, a paranormal ghost hunt and a post-apocalyptic wasteland soon lose their fun shock value as the sextet become stuck in a true terror tale that exposes dark secrets no one could have possibly foreseen.

It’s always fun to have an ‘aha’ moment when you finally recognize someone on screen from somewhere else. Some folks are easy to pick out while others take on a different appearance for each role and therefore change just enough that you might recognize them even if you don’t remember from where. Laura Fraser is a woman that’s been around for a while and knows the ins and outs of show business even if she hasn’t always been in center screen with every role. "Rave to your grave...!" Altitude Films has debuted a dance-able official UK trailer for an indie film titled Beats, which premiered at the Slamdance and Rotterdam Film Festivals earlier this year. Set in the summer of 1994, the film is about two best mates from a small Scottish town who head out for one last night together before life takes them in different directions. Going to an illegal rave, the boys journey into an underworld of anarchy, freedom and collision with the law, as they share a night that they will never forget. Beats is executive produced by Steven Soderbergh, and presented in black & white, which is a cool choice. The party film stars Cristian Ortega, Lorn Macdonald, Laura Fraser, and Brian Ferguson. This looks damn good, thanks to an excellently energetic trailer with some nice touches (and awesome vintage techno music). Here's the official UK trailer (+ poster) for Brian Welsh's Beats,...

While this basic one-liner for the film is nothing new and has been explored many times before, Blackmore and her team put a fun, gruesome twist on the old formula. A snappy, scrappy, straining-at-the-leash coming-of-ager from bleakest Scotland, Brian Welsh’s “Beats” takes place in 1994 — two years before the release of “Trainspotting,” though 23 years on, it feels like something of an heir to Danny Boyle’s Nineties yardstick. The same spirit of raggedly exuberant, techno-pumped nihilism courses through both films. It’s something of a jolt, then, to realize that while Boyle’s film was an of-the-moment youth revolt, “Beats” is an alternately wistful and furious period piece — looking back at an unstable, exciting era of Cool Britannia and incipient cultural liberation that stalled somewhere along the way to Brexit Britain. That’s the subtext, at least: the surface is a rollicking buddy movie, both funny and stomach-churning as it follows two gawky 15-year-old lads seeking a debauched sendoff to childhood.

What exactly are Johnno and Spanner? There are moments when the two Scottish teens hate each other’s guts with bilious fervor, others when they’re the “dream team and that,” inseparable and co-dependent best friends à la Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal in Y Tu Mamá También, others still when their bromance veers into an uncharted, emotionally complex terrain. Brian Welsh’s rollicking Beats thrives on these ambiguities, on a greater-than-life friendship between an introvert and his volcanic and beguilingly ruffian neighbor as they brace for a night out that’s likely to be their last–or at any rate, the last rave their central Scotland turf may ever host.
Based on a 2012 play by Keiran Hurley (here credited as co-script writer next to Welsh), Beats thrums with an unbridled energy that owes less to the massive party it culminates with than to the poignant relationship between the...

She has more that 20 years of experience as a talent manager. Rosen began her career at ICM, moved onto Propaganda in the 90s, and then Melanie Greene Management in the 2000s. In 2010 Rosen joined boutique firm Sanders.Armstrong.Caserta Management where she worked for eight years, also serving as a producer on Showtime’s Masters of Sex. She became available following the recent decision by the Sanders.Armstrong.Caserta partners to dissolve the company.
Stokes’ list of clients includes Mena Massoud, Josh Helman, Madison Lintz, Matt Lintz (The Alienist), Michael Provost (Insatiable), Brittany S. Hall (Ballers) and Karan Oberoi, all of whom will be joining him in the move.

“Tammy and Brad have both garnered the reputation of being the most respected managers in the business based on their taste and work ethic which matches perfectly with our working environment at Link, said the company’s partners in a joint statement. “We are excited to be collaborating with them and look forward to having them part of our company.”...

“You were a lawyer,” someone snarks to Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) in the opening scenes of the first full trailer for the fourth season of the hit AMC series “Better Call Saul,” hitting the disgraced professional where it hurts. Indeed, Jimmy used to be a lawyer, and he’s hellbent on working his way back to gainful employment of the law-abiding variety, just as long as he can make his way through the next ten months and not kick up too much of a fuss while doing it.
But this is, of course, Jimmy McGill, Aka Slippin’ Jimmy and, as we all know, our eventual Saul Goodman. Sticking to the script and abiding by the rules aren’t exactly the way he does things. Still, this first full trailer for the new season of the show hits that he’s going to try, at least for a bit. After all,...

Lydia Rodarte-Quayle (Laura Fraser) from “Breaking Bad” took her Chamomile tea with soy milk and a ton of Stevia. Ew. Our friends at HuffPo finally found out why the key character drank what sounds like the nastiest hot beverage in modern TV history — an unanswered question that has hung around well into the “Better Call Saul” run. To get to the bottom of Lydia’s gross concoction — something no normal tea drinker could ever actually do — one reporter went straight to the source. “Oh, I actually put milk in chamomile tea,” series creator Vince Gilligan told HuffPo. “A lot of...

Some exciting new UK drama and comedy commissions are making their way to TV over the next year or so…
We know, we know. You still have two episodes of Fargo season two before you can think about starting season three. You’ve already fallen behind on American Gods. Your planner memory is chock-a-block with Big Little Lies and that Oj Simpson thing and some Spanish prison series your workmate bullied you into recording. You’re struggling to make time for Twin Peaks. New Game Of Thrones is just around the corner. And guess what, Netflix UK have just added a whole new season of It’s Always Sunny, those sods. You need a list of new TV show recommendations like you need a hole in the head.

And yet, as long as they keep making them, we’ll keep recommending them.

The major online streaming platforms know they've got to haul out the big guns when those lovely summer days try to tempt viewers outside, i.e. that place with sunshine and fresh air. Crime in Albuquerque might be on the rise even as Jimmy McGill receives his sentence from the bar association — a year away from the law, per his suspension. Once he touches base with his former clients, the big question is “What’s next?” And he may have gotten the answer thanks to his old joke of a pseudonym, and the prepaid commercial time he needs to unload.
Meanwhile, we get even more insight into the criminal underworld that is the cartel drug trade — first, witnessing how the Salamanca gang conducts business at this stage in its operation, then observing how Gus Fring uses Los Pollos Hermanos trucks to move product across the border. (Spoiler alert: One operation is far more sophisticated than the other.) And Gus discovers...

“Breaking Bad” received (some) criticism during its beloved five seasons on television, but no one ever complained that the AMC drama created by Vince Gilligan was too short.
Thus, when some “Breaking” fans released their two-hour hour long fan edit of the series, condensing the story of a high school chemistry professor who turns to a life of crime to a feature length experience, the overwhelming reaction was “Why???” (A question seemingly echoed by AMC, which seems to have issued a takedown notice.)

The Bottom Shelf returns, with more DVDs and Blu-rays of a horror persuasion...
