The Brady organization against gun violence is calling on Hollywood writers, directors and producers to examine onscreen gun violence and depictions of gun safety, asking the creative community to sign a pledge that’s already garnered more than 200 signatures of such names as Judd Apatow, Shonda Rhimes, Damon Lindelof and Jimmy Kimmel and the writers of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The pledge, while noting that the “responsibility lies with lax gun laws supported by those politicians more afraid of losing power than saving lives,” acknowledges that “America’s storytellers” have the power to “effect change.”
“Cultural attitudes toward smoking, drunk driving, seatbelts and marriage equality have all evolved due in large part to movies’ and TV’s influence. It’s time to take on gun safety,” the Brady pledge states, and goes on to ask writers, directors and producers to, whenever possible, to:

This article contains spoilers for Lost in Space season 3.
There’s nothing a human being loves to see on screen more than a robot.
Maybe it’s because the idea of a robot forces us to reckon with the act of creation and ultimately empathize with whatever created us having to watch helplessly as we stumble from one existential crisis to another. Or maybe it’s just because robots are cute and say “beep beep boop boop.”
Whatever the reason, no sci-fi franchise understands humanity’s fascination with robots better than Lost in Space. The 1965 TV series established one of the all-time iconic robot designs with the bumbling yet helpful B-9 model environmental control unit dubbed “Robot.” The 1998 Lost in Space film then reimagined Robot as a sleek and powerful protector for the lost Robinson family.

The Robinson family rockets into the third and final season of Netflix‘s Lost in Space, which finds them in a difficult spot: apart. The action on this adaptation of the 1960s CBS series picks up a year after the Robots’ attack on the ship Resolute at the end of Season 2. Now, siblings Penny (Mina Sundwall), Judy (Taylor Russell), and Will (Maxwell Jenkins) are trapped on a mysterious planet after escaping the ship. (Credit: Diyah Pera/Netflix) But their worried parents, Maureen and John (Molly Parker and Toby Stephens), “don’t know if their kids are safe and the kids don’t know if their parents survived the attack,” says executive producer Zack Estrin. While the elder Robinsons desperately try to reunite the family, Estrin says lingering questions will be answered on these final episodes: “Where did the Robots come from? And if the Robots are indeed built, who built them?...

December 1, 2021 is when all the episodes will be available to stream.

The Robinson family is getting one last go-around: Netflix has renewed its visually impressive “Lost in Space,” sci-fi series for a third and final season.
The series, a reimagining of the 1960 series of the same name that also ran for three seasons, centers on the tight-knit and inexhaustibly inventive Robinson family, who set off for the Alpha Centauri star system with a handful of other colonists after Earth threatened to become inhospitable in the distant future. Unfortunately, the Robinsons have faced obstacle after obstacle over the last two seasons, the latest of which ended with the children getting separated from their parents in a far-flung star system. Now, the Robinsons have one last chance (and season) to reunite and finally make their way to Alpha Centauri.

As Lost In Space is coming to an end, Netflix is extending its relationship with series executive producer/showrunner Zack Estrin, who has signed a multi-year overall deal to produce new series exclusively for the streamer.

The streaming giant has handed out a third — and final — season renewal to its Lost in Space revival and signed showrunner Zack Estrin to a multiple-year overall deal. It’s that special time of year again when studios and networks put forth their Emmy-hopeful series and talent.
With more than 500 scripted shows alone vying for Television Academy Fyc event slots, some opt to build out their own spaces and present activations and stunts to capture additional voters’ attention. (Remember “‘Maisel’ Day”?) But for many, the traditional screening and panel setup is just as important. There, hundreds of voters can sample a show and engage with those who create it, all in a comfortable theater setting with food and drink to follow.
To keep track of all of the official Fyc events happening on both coasts, Variety has created this comprehensive schedule. Check back here periodically, as more events are still to be announced.

The executive producers of Lost in Space tell us where a potential season 3 may take the Robinson family.
Lost in Space Season 3 has yet to be officially confirmed by Netflix, but the executive producers may have learned something from spending so much time with the always prepared Maureen Robinson. The creative minds behind the show already have a roadmap for the third season planned out.
*Caution: Season 2 spoilers ahead*
“A big thing happened at the end of season 2: the kids and parents are split apart,” showrunner Zack Estrin tells Den of Geek. “We’re going to pick up with two separate stories in season 3.”
The cliffhanger ending of Lost in Space season 2 leaves several storylines up in the air. So far, the Robinsons haven’t met a problem they couldn’t solve together. Now, apart, a potential third season may be their most daunting challenge yet.

Entering Jupiter 2 never gets old for Lost in Space executive producer and showrunner Zack Estrin.
As if he hasn’t already shot two seasons worth of footage inside the massive soundstage outside Vancouver, Estrin is bouncing around the ship’s interior as he shows off some “science fiction touchpoints” of the design, from the circular shape that pays homage to the original show’s Jupiter 2 to the lived-in ambiance that echoes the rusty Millennium Falcon. Netflix has a holiday treat in the form of Lost in Space Season 2.
The streamer previously announced the show would be back December 24, and now we have the full-length trailer.
Lost in Space focuses on the aftermath of an impact event that threatens the survival of humanity, with the Robinson family being selected for the 24th mission of the Resolute (24th Colonist Group), a spacecraft carrying selected families to colonize the Alpha Centauri star system.
However, an alien robot breaches the Resolute's hull, meaning that many people are sent to a nearby habitable planet, where they must find a way to return home, while simultaneously dealing with their own personal issues.
"There’s more danger — and adventure — ahead for the Robinson family! With the Jupiter 2 stranded on a mysterious ocean planet without their beloved Robot, the Robinsons must work together, alongside the mischievous and manipulative Dr. Smith and the always charming Don West,...

Sony teamed with Netflix to develop a new line of televisions the companies claim will deliver the highest-quality picture possible — to reproduce the emotional impact of the filmmaker’s intent — for content on the streaming-video service.
For the new TVs, Sony and Netflix collaborated on a new display mode that the companies say make them the optimal way to view Netflix streaming content. The new Bravia Master series of 4K Ultra HD TVs have a “Netflix Calibrated Mode,” which Sony claims delivers picture quality equivalent to a master monitor in a movie production studio.
The Bravia Master A9F Oled display (available with 55- and 65-inch screens) and Z9F Led display (65- and 75-inch screens) models are slated to ship across North America in the fall of 2018, with pricing and retail availability yet to be announced.

Emotion and melody propel the “Star Trek Discovery” and “Lost in Space” scores from Jeff Russo and Christopher Lennertz. (The soundtracks are available from Lakeshore Records.) Of course, they’re nostalgic in paying homage to their predecessors, but they offer their own sense of grandeur and distinctive grace notes in underscoring topical adventures about inclusion and diversity.
In “Discovery,” Sonequa Martin-Green stars as Science Specialist Michael Burnham, a human raised by Vulcans, who provides a complex dynamic with superiors and subordinates. And, in “Lost in Space,” the new twist of a bi-racial Judy (Taylor Russell), empathetic Robot, and female Dr. Smith (Parker Posey) make the series more topical, compelling, and unpredictable.
Discovering Compassion in “Star Trek”
Emmy winner Russo (“Fargo”) was fascinated by the emphasis on compassion in exploring the various inter-relationships. “Discovery” takes place a decade before the original series and focuses on the Federation-Klingon war. However, unlike its predecessors,...

“Lost in Space,” one of Netflix’s newest high-profile original series, drew 6.3 million U.S. viewers within the first three days of its release earlier this month, according to Nielsen.
In addition, in the first 72 hours of release (April 13-15) of all 10 epsiodes, “Lost in Space” viewers on average watched the show for 2.5 hours, per Nielsen. The media-measurement firm found the series was heavily binged — with almost 1.2 million people having watched the series’ final episode within those three days.
By comparison, the “Stranger Things” season 2 premiere episode average 15.8 million viewers from Oct. 27-29, while 11 million U.S. viewers who watched Netflix’s “Bright” during its first three days of release, according to Nielsen.
Famously, Netflix doesn’t release viewing metrics, holding such data close to its vest — leaving third parties like Nielsen to try to estimate demand. Netflix has pointed out that Nielsen’s estimates cover only the U.S.
