In the aftermath of The Expendables, Hollywood is increasingly using older actors in lead roles. But where are tomorrow's Van Dammes going to come from?
Having assumed the identity of the Us president, compulsive evildoer Zartan threatens to decimate the population of Earth. A crack covert mission team must call on the only man who can save the day: General Joseph Colton, the original GI Joe. Why a 58-year-old Bruce Willis might be better equipped to bring down a terrorist ringleader than walking Wmd Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is never made clear during the 110 minutes of GI Joe: Retaliation, but right now it seems that action heroes – like the cheeses with which many of them share an acting style – get better with age.
Ever since The Expendables grossed $274m worldwide - a figure almost as high as its cast's combined ages - the geriaction subgenre has exploded, making born-again stars...

However, after watching Skyfall with Daniel Craig and villain Javier Bardem, Willis stated that he would be up for playing a baddie in such an iconic franchise.
"I always thought it would be more fun to play bad guys," the actor is quoted as saying in the Daily Express.

Here’s a film with a lot stacked against it. Stephen Sommers’ execrable G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra opened to a critic-wide drubbing and barely cracked $300m at the box office which, for a film costing almost $200m, isn’t exactly a glowing endorsement for a sequel.
Somehow, the star-studded follow-up, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, has finally made it to our screens, incredulously receiving a budget in excess of the original’s, while the majority of critics will be going in dubious over a 9-month release delay, reportedly to add 3D to the film, though rumoured to largely be re-shoots in order to take advantage of Channing Tatum’s fast rise to fanfare last year.
It would be remiss to call G.I. Joe a particularly good film by any conventional standard, but it is a fun, breezy time at the cinema and a massive improvement over the original in terms of direction,...

Dwayne Johnson has joked that he worked "his ass off" in order to get into shape for GI Joe: Retaliation.
Johnson joins the GI Joe franchise for the latest film to play weapons expert Roadblock, a character known for his muscled physique.
The actor spoke about his diet and exercise routine to Entertainment Tonight, revealing that he spent months getting into the proper shape.
"The prep for this was... anywhere between 11 to 14 weeks, [consisting of] diet, conditioning, [and] training," Johnson revealed.
"We already had an established brand of Roadblock in the cartoon... so the look of Roadblock - no-one looked like that guy - so it was important to work my ass off and work the part."
Johnson went on to reveal that he strayed from his diet on an occasional "cheat day" to indulge in some of his favourite fatty foods.

"Texas Chainsaw 3D" is 2013's inaugural sequel in a year chock full of them (29 in all). With this much franchise volume in one year, it's good to keep some perspective in terms of which series we're primed for ... and which ones shouldn't have had a first movie to begin with.
From the bad to the rad, here's our rundown of all the follow-ups fans have been clamoring for — or haven't, as the case may be. Prioritize your sequel viewing, people.
29. 'The Smurfs 2' (July 31)
The first "Smurfs" was a true-blue atrocity, taking Peyo's beloved children's characters and having them skateboard and rap their way through Fao Schwartz. Expect even more lowest common denominator-ing and product placement as Neil Patrick Harris and our heroes smurf around Paris searching for a kidnapped Smurfette ... and their agent so they can fire him.
28. 'The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia'...

After failing to give GI Joe fans or movie goers in general a decent movie in GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra, the creative team has apparently decided to take plot cues from the 2010 cartoon GI Joe Renegades (which premiered on Hub TV).
The latest trailer showed us two things. The core plot is exactly that of GI Joe Renegades. The government sees Cobra as a force for good, while ruling the Joes as renegades of the nation. It’s also got a touch of X2 in it. Similar to Mystique in X2, the president has been removed from office by a shapeshifter (probably Zartan in this case).
Bruce Willis gets to play General Joseph Colton, the original Joe. For fans of the Larry Hama comic book, the trailer will feel like an egregious mishmosh of story lines. In order to wipe our memories of the first GI Joe film,...

Talking to IGN Movies, Johnson has revealed some new information about Roadblock's role in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, letting slip plenty of interesting details about the character's relationship with Snake Eyes as well as his weaponry and fighting style. While 2009's G.I. The first trailer for GI Joe 2: Retaliation has debuted online. Bruce Willis, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Channing Tatum feature in the action-packed video, which teases the sequel to 2009's GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Willis, who plays General Joseph Colton, is not shown until the last few seconds of the trailer when he quips to Lady Jaye (Adrianne Palicki) that his cholesterol is "a little high". Jon M Chu is directing GI Joe 2: Retaliation, which also stars Palicki, Ray Stevenson, Ray Park, (more)...

Paramount has debuted the first trailer for G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation, the quasi-sequel to 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. I say "quasi-sequel" because many of the people you came to know in the first film are not returning for this second feature, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt who played the Cobra Commander or Christopher Eccleston who played Destro. Then again, the plot suggests maybe everyone from the first film dies as a result of actions taken in Retaliation so who knows how well it will play with the first one. Channing Tatum is back playing Captain Duke Hauser as the G.I. Joe team faces off against Zartan, his accomplices, and the world leaders he has under his influence. New Joes include Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock, Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jay, Elodie Yung as Jinx, D.J. Cotrona as Flint, Bruce Willis as General Joseph Colton and Ray Park returns as...

While the first movie was met with a negative reaction from fans and critics alike, the buzz surrounding the sequel has been far more positive. Those lucky enough to have seen the trailer at Harry Knowles' annual "Butt-Numb-a-Thon" praised what so far appears to be a much improved take on the beloved characters. Thanks to Twitter's @Cine__Heroes we have a lengthier version of some of the trailer in this Entertainment Tonight footage. Update: And here is the full trailer introduced by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson courtesy of Machinima. Starring: Channing Tatum as Duke Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock Bruce Willis as General Joseph Colton Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye Ray Park as Snake Eyes Lee Byung-hun as Storm Shadow Ray Stevenson as Firefly RZA as Blind Master Arnold Vosloo as Zartan D.J. Paramount has nearly landed Bruce Willis to star in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, the inevitable follow-up to the cartwheeling action sequences of G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra.
The studio was courting him six weeks ago, along with other A-listers, as the rest of the cast was padded with second and third-tier stars like Adrianne Palicki (as Lady Jaye), D.J. Cotrona (Flint), and Joseph Mazzello (Mouse), who starred in Jurassic Park as a kid and was excellent in HBO’s “The Pacific” but is still relatively unknown. Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a. WWE’s “The Rock”) added some muscle as the machine gun-wielding Roadblock, but Willis adds the star power as General Joseph Colton, the first of the Hasbro action figures and the reason for the name G.I. Joe. Colton will presumably be the head of the international task force after the departure of Dennis Quaid as General Hawk.

Friday Night Lights star Adrianne Palicki has some time on her hands since the Wonder Woman pilot was dumped and MGM's Red Dawn is struggling to get off the shelf sometime this year. She will be joining the cast of G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes as the team's covert operations specialist, Lady Jaye. The Legion and Women in Trouble actress isn't the only name we've been hearing about when it comes to Joe. Recently we learned that Dwayne Johnson, Wu-Tang's RZA, and D.J. Cotrona have also signed on to play Roadblock, the Blind master, and Flint respectively. Returning cast members include Channing Tatum and Ray Park, but the original Joe – Joseph Colton – has yet to be cast. Deadline says that Cobra Strikes is being fast-tracked for next...

With her scheduled freed up after NBC passed on a “Wonder Woman” TV series, former “Friday Night Lights” star Adrianne Palicki has found another heroic role in G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes, the inevitable sequel to 2009’s ensemble actioner.
Palicki will play Lady Jaye, according to Deadline, a covert operations specialist on the G.I. Joe team. She joins a cast that already includes Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a. “The Rock”) as Roadblock, “Detroit 1-8-7″ detective D.J. Cotrona as the beret-wearing soldier Flint, and rapper-turned-actor RZA will play martial artist the Blind Master. Channing Tatum is returning as Duke, Ray Park is playing Snake Eyes again, and Byung-hun Lee is back as Storm Shadow.
Paramount is hoping to fast-track the sequel and hurry it into a Summer 2012 slot since it looks as though Star Trek 2 will miss its June 2012 release. There’s also a slot for an A-lister to play General Joseph Colton,...
