This article contains spoilers for the Disenchantment series finale.
A new animated series from Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons and Futurama, should have been a clear winner and modern cartoon classic. Oddly enough, Bean’s misadventures through Dreamland and its constant fantasy genre subversions in Disenchantment have barely left a mark on the medium. It initially seemed like Disenchantment had somehow learned the worst lessons from The Simpsons and Futurama through a focus on dense lore and heavy serialized stories. Disenchantment, while fun, would struggle with its growing scope and undergo a perpetual identity crisis on the type of series it wanted to be and what it does best.
It’s been a bumpy journey, but Disenchantment impressively pulls everything together for its final season. This last batch of episodes finally figures out how to use this big world and its many supporting characters after seasons of awkward attempts to connect these dots.

After the surprising rise and appallingly steady excellence of The Simpsons’ first decade, many long-time supporters felt the show would have gone out on top if it ended around 2001-2002. The late 1990s era was hit with a traumatic loss with the death of comic genius Phil Hartman. After a pay dispute, voice actress Maggie Roswell left from 1999 to 2002, resulting in the death of the Maude Flanders in the episode “Alone Again, Natura-Diddily.” But the first cracks in the series’ “Golden Age” appeared when Principal Skinner was redacted and retrofitted for “The Principal and the Pauper,” from season 9. It was seen as a major copout.

The Writers Guild of America announced the TV nominees for the 2015 WGA Awards on Thursday (December 4) morning and several new shows broke into the fields in a big way. And, of course, there were a number of big WGA Award nomination head-scratchers. Specifically, where the heck was FX's "Fargo"? The answer is below. Making perhaps the biggest splash was "Transparent," which earned three nominations and, since "Orange Is The New Black" earned two nods and "House of Cards" pick up one, that meant that Amazon Prime and Netflix are, at least for one award-giving organization, on equal footing as creators of original programming. The Jill Soloway-created "Transparent" is nominated for New Series, where it will go against "The Affair," "The Knick," "Silicon Valley" and "True Detective." "Transparent" and "Silicon Valley" are also up for Comedy Series, going against "Louie," "Veep" and "Orange Is The New Black." Lest you panic...

This weekend, two of the most beloved animated TV shows will meet up episodically for the first time, as Futurama’s Planet Express crew from the 31st century heads to Springfield for a crossover episode called “Simpsoroma.” The main voice cast from Futurama—John Dimaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Phil Lamarr, Lauren Tom, Maurice Lamarche, and Tress MacNeille (who is part of the Simpsons voice cast as well)—reprised their roles for this creation, in which rage-robot Bender travels back in time to eliminate Bartbefore. “They were going off the air, so I thought people would really love it if we had one more chance to see those characters,” Simpsons exec producer Al Jean told EW this summer. “We’re always looking for things that are compatible with us, and I thought, ‘Well, what’s more compatible?’ We do a joke, actually, about how similar Bender and Homer look. Like,...

When Electronic Arts teamed up with Fox to roll out The Simpsons: Tapped Out two years ago, game runner Stewart Burns didn't think it would really go anywhere. For Burns, also a longtime Simpsons staffer, the app was more a passion project than anything else. In the years since the freemium city-building game has been available to download, however, Tapped Out has generated a rabid fan base, one that — gasp! — you might say rivals that of the actual show. As the on-air counterpart's 26th season approaches, Burns and Co. have unveiled an in-game update, dubbed Clash of Clones, that allows players to not only build their own Springfields, but also to destroy other Springfields à la the popular Clash of Clans mobile game (which Burns says several Simpsons writers play). The update is available to play until October 7, at which point the game's third Treehouse of Horror installment begins.

Futuristic delivery guy Philip J. Fry (voice of Billy West) finally gets his happy ending with the lovely Leela (voice of Katey Sagal), albeit with dire consequences for the rest of the universe, as "Futurama" ends its long run Wednesday, Sept. 4, on Comedy Central.
"We wanted to push the Fry and Leela relationship to its conclusion," executive producer David X. Cohen, who co-created "Futurama" with Matt Groening of "The Simpsons," tells Zap2it. "If this really is our last episode, we wanted to have a payoff for this story that has been bubbling on and off for the last 13 years. We decided to give fans Fry and Leela's wedding, although, of course, in a twisted sci-fi way."
If Cohen sounds a little uncertain whether his show is really ending, you have to cut the guy some slack. He's been here before, but this animated series -- which premiered on Fox...

When I heard about Family Guy’s crossover with The Simpsons, my face made what you might call a grimace. I’m not a huge fan of Family Guy; it makes me laugh, certainly, but I could never get behind its particular brand of humor the way most of the show’s fans have. And The Simpsons are such a classic series in my mind that imagining their world meshing with Family Guy’s was not a pleasant process. Now, what does work in my mind is a crossover between The Simpsons and Futurama, which, and thank God for making this possible, is happening. I feel like this is a decade in the making.
Even though Futurama is coming to an end on Comedy Central – technically its second series finale as it’s been canceled once before by Fox – its seventh season finale won’t be the last time we see Bender,...

The other series nominees are "Boardwalk Empire," "Game of Thrones," "Homeland" and "Mad Men" in the drama category and "30 Rock," "Girls," "Louie" and "Parks and Recreation" on the comedy side.

Updated: Animated series writers are protesting a decision by the Television Academy to allow NBC’s Community to compete for Emmys in animated categories, arguing that they should be allowed similar cross-genre privileges.
Community made it onto the Emmy nomination ballot in several categories, including best animated program — along with 33 entries from full-time animated shows. The episode, “Digital Estate Planning,” features the cast rendered into 8-bit characters to compete in an old-school-style video game.
Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy), David X. Cohen (Futurama) and Al Jean (The Simpsons) are among the 52 writer-producers who signed a letter to the TV Academy arguing...

"The Simpsons" will hit another huge milestone this season when it crosses the 500-episode mark, putting it in an even more rarefied space among prime-time television's longest-running series.
Episode 500, written by show veteran Michael Price and scheduled to air Feb. 19, 2012, will be as self-aware as the show usually is. Executive producer Al Jean explains the premise:
"There's a big town meeting that the Simpsons don't know about, and when they go in, the town is saying we're going to get rid of the Simpsons," Jean told reporters Tuesday (July 26) after a tour of the show's animation studio, Film Roman. "They're sick of them."
Jean also teased a few other episodes from the coming season, which premieres Sept. 25:
- One episode involves an "Inception" parody "where one dream level was [drawn in] the 'Tracey Ullman Show' style," Jean says. Dan Castellaneta reverts to his old, Walter Matthau-inspired Homer voice for the segment.

The producers of The Simpsons invaded Bartroom, excuse me, Ballroom 20 this afternoon to chat about the animated Fox comedy’s upcoming 23rd season and answer all sorts of fan questions. (They also showed an amusing parody of the Dexter opening credits starring Ned Flanders, which will appear in the show’s annual “Treehouse of Horror” Halloween episode.) Here are 10 things we learned during the panel — and afterward, when we followed up with executive producer Al Jean.
• Surprise, surprise: There will be at least two more Banksy-eseque gags sprinkled throughout the season. “If you liked Banksy, then you’ll like these two,...
