Berlin-based sales agency Picture Tree Intl. has acquired the supernatural crime thriller “The Osha Rule,” and will start seeking distribution partner at the Cannes Film Market. The film will start principal photography in August 2024.
“The Osha Rule” blends crime with supernatural horror and revolves around a young Latino gang member forced into a Santería ritual after recovering stolen goods from a rival gang.
Soon after, he and his little sister begin to feel the harassment of a supernatural entity. A traumatized social worker risks everything to help the siblings escape their seemingly doomed fate.
The film will star Mariela Garriga in a leading role under the direction of Ángel González, whose debut “Compulsion” premiered at the Sitges Fantastic Film Festival and was licensed globally to Amazon.
Garriga is best known for her work in “Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.” She also stars in the film’s second instalment, currently in post-production.

Rauw Alejandro brings a bit of thunder and lightning to the new music video for “Diluvio,” a track off his most recent album, Playa Saturno.
Directed by Martin Seipel and El Zorro, the video finds Alejandro in the throes of a feverish love affair that seems to bend space, time, and reality. Though largely set in a spare room, filled only with a mattress, speakers, and records (do you really need anything else?), the clip eventually leaps out of these confines to a steamy scene on a motorcycle and a...

Cannes — Paramount+ has revealed a premiere date – Nov. 3 – as well as trailer and key art for “Bosé,” a biopic of the famed Spanish singer-songwriter Miguel Bosé which is shaping up as one of Spain’s biggest and most anticipated series of 2022.
Shared in exclusivity with Variety, the trailer, like the version glimpsed at Iberseries in one of that market’s biggest sneak peeks, captures Bosé’s art – a mix between David Bowie glam and sexual ambiguity and softer Italian melody.
It also drive into what looks like the emotional heart and narrative structure of the story, showing Miguel Bosé (played by Iván Sánchez and José Pastor), in a present-day timeline during the promotion of his multi-platinum album “Papito,” as he debates becoming a father.
Here he must reconcile himself with memories of his own padre, famed philandering bullfighter Luis Miguel Dominguín, whom Bosé loved but who despised his son for not being a real hombre.

Three years ago, platforms were asking Spanish producers for full rights to their TV fiction projects for all territories.
Times have changed. As platforms’ revenues taper off or slow in growth, originals are less habitual. Co-production is increasingly becoming the name of the game.
A first-phase boom was triggered by Netflix titles “Money Heist” and “Elite.”
Now, Spain is maintaining its momentum, remaining a priority region for Netflix, HBO Max and Prime Video. Newcomers Disney+, Paramount+ and Lionsgate+ have unveiled their first original productions.
Local champions, Telefonica’s paybox Movistar+ and Atresmedia’s platform Atresplayer Premium, harbor strong artistic ambitions.
As platforms pause production in parts of the world, and Netflix rejigs its business model, Spain’s TV producers are ringing their options, plunging ever more into co-production.
“The market is being rationalized and shared production models don’t leave all the rights in the platform’s hands,” says Caroline Servy,...

In late April, Banijay Iberia moved waves by taking an equity stake in Alex de la Iglesia and Carolina Bang’s Pokeespsie Films, with the aim of scaling up on its Spanish-language high-end original series and fiction production.
Via Shine Iberia, Banijay is also producing biopic “Bosé,” one of Vis’ biggest Spanish-language plays for Paramount Plus, about singer-songwriter Miguel Bosé.
Best known for its entertainment formats – though it does own Barcelona’s Diagonal TV, producer of hit Netflix historical sagas “Cathedral of the Sea” and “Heirs to the Land” and Dlo Producciones, behind “Tell Me Who I Am” and “El Immortal,” – Banijay is now moving to strengthen its position in scripted in the Iberian market and, via it, across the globe.

Standing in a secluded lane just off Madrid’s main motorway to North-West Spain, the chalet, with its well-trimmed garden, black slate roof and tall, spiked-fence wall, looks as if it would be more in place in a rural estate rather than in a metropolitan city. It also instantly signals a home of the very well-heeled establishment under dictator Francisco Franco.
It now serves as a key set on Paramount Plus’ “Bose,” a six-part series that follows the impressive decades-long career of barrier-breaking Spanish singer-songwriter Miguel Bosé, produced by Vis, Banijay Iberia subsidiary Shine Iberia, Pepe Baston’s Elefantec Global and Legacy Rock.

Banijay Iberia has struck a strategic partnership with Alex de la Iglesia which will see the high-profile Spanish writer-director and his partner at Pokeespsie Films, actor-producer Carolina Bang, create high-end original series and fiction for Banijay.
Pokeepsie Films credits include HBO Max hit “30 Coins,” co-written and directed by De La Iglesia. It is believed that the deal involves Banijay Iberia taking an equity investment in Pokeepsie.
No details of new projects are given. The deal, however, certainly sees Banijay Iberia, best known for its entertainment shows in Spain, reinforce still further its fiction output potential.

“Bosé,” the highly anticipated Paramount Plus Original, has wrapped production. The announcement comes as Paramount Plus has also confirmed the remainder of the internationally recognised cast of the six-part series, a biopic of Spanish singer-songwriter Miguel Bosé.
Two behind-the-scenes images, shared in exclusivity with Variety, also hint at the production ambitions of the series, one of the biggest Spanish-language series to date at Paramount Plus, which turns on one of the most resonant figures in recent times in Spain. Resonant for his hits, which span a remarkably long six-decade career, and for his life story, which charts Spain’s emergence from more oppressive times to hard-won freedoms in democracy.
Produced by Vis, a division of Paramount, in collaboration with Shine Iberia, part of Banijay Iberia, Pepe Baston’s Elefantec Global and Legacy Rock, “Bosé” will premiere exclusively on the Paramount Plus International streaming service in the coming months, Paramount Plus also confirmed Tuesday.

Now this is some awesome news, horror movie lovers.
The Chicago Cinema Society (via Dread Central) has announced it has discovered an uncut 35mm print of Dario Argento’s “Suspiria” that hasn’t been screened since at least 1978. The print was found in the storage room of a closed Italian movie theater and is in such good condition that it will be touring around the country this summer and fall.

In an official message posted on their website, the Chicago Cinema Society wrote:
The Chicago Cinema Society is excited to announce that we have discovered an uncut Italian 35mm print of ‘Suspiria.’ The print was rescued from an Italian cinema that had closed down and the print had gone untouched in their storage area since 1977-78. After a brief inspection to assess the overall condition of the print, it appears as if it had only been screened a handful of times at most. The print is in excellent physical condition with no substantial wear, uncut heads and tails, minimal fading and no vinegar syndrome. Once we had the print in our film archive, we then made a very careful inspection to determine which version of ‘Suspiria’ we had obtained. We were stunned to find that the print is a completely uncut 6 reel print with a run time of 98 minutes in Italian language.
The discovery comes on the heels of a remake that is expected to hit theaters sometime this year. The new version is directed by Luca Guadagnino and stars Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson and Chloe Grace Moretz. The story follows an American ballet student who transfers to a prestigious dance academy in Germany and gets swept up in a series of supernatural murders. The original starred Jessica Harper, Stefania Casini, Flavio Bucci, Miguel Bosé.
You will be able to see the uncut 35mm print on the big screen at the following locations:
July 28: The Metrograph, New York City, NY
September 16: The Belcourt Theatre, Nashville, Tn
October 14: Coolidge Corner Theatre, Brookline, Ma
October 26-27: Northwest Film Forum, Seattle, Wa
Early Fall: Venue confirmed and Tba, Los Angeles, CA
Late Fall: Music Box Theatre, Chicago, Il
The Chicago Cinema Society also uploaded five previews of the print on their YouTube page. You can watch them all below. Visit the theater websites for ticketing information.

Not only can Penélope Cruz sing, but she looks pretty hot doing it too. Need proof? Then check out this music video, shot last October, in which she lends her voice (and a whole lot more!) to Grammy Award winner Miguel Bosé's new song, "Decimos Adiós (Saying Goodbye)." Not surprising, Cruz easily manages to steal the spotlight as several shots find her dressed in nothing but lingerie, thereby reminding us why Javier Bardem is one lucky fella. Incidentally, the single was written by the Oscar winner's brother, Eduardo Cruz. Sure, the tune may be in Spanish, and therefore some folks may not quite understand the lyrics. But thanks to the actress, the visuals in...

Maybe what Venezuela needs right now in this time of crisis is Juanes.
The Colombian singer and Grammy Award-winning singer Miguel Bosé visited Caracas this week to sound out the possibility of doing the third “Peace Without Borders” concert, Spanish news wire Efe reports.
While in Venezuela, Juanes and Bosé met with the director of the National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras, and attended the recording of part of the soundtrack for “Libertador,” a big-budget local film directed by Alberto Arvelo about the exploits of the country's beloved independence hero Simón Bolívar.
Juanes and Bosé aim to bring together 15 musical acts representative of Latin America and Europe, along with the Simón Bolívar Symphonic Orchestra.
The singers teamed up to organize the first “Peace Without Borders” concert in 2008 along the border between Venezuela and Colombia, with the goal of calming tensions sparked by a diplomatic crisis between the two countries.

We all know Penelope Cruz can dance and act -- and now she's shown that she can also definitely sing.
As if her debut singing for the 2006 film "Volver" and 2009 “Nine” weren’t enough, recently a new video of the Spanish actress was released with Cruz looking very sensual while performing a duo with her compatriot Miguel Bosé.
The black-and-white video shows both artists in different hotel rooms, where the actress boasts her sweet voice and throws herself onto the bed dressed in sexy lingerie, while singing “Decirnos Adiós” (Saying ‘Good Bye’), composed by her brother Eduardo Cruz.
"Penelope sings fabulously and, above all, she has a lot of personality in her voice and enjoys it a lot, something that you can't say about everyone," Bosé told Spanish wire service Efe.
