The Exorcist is my choice for the best horror movie of all time. Some may say Rosemary’s Baby or The Shining or Night of the Living Dead, but as a good Catholic boy, nothing has ever gotten under my skin the way William Friedkin’s original did. But, with great success comes the desire for Hollywood to make a hit into a franchise, but Friedkin was not a franchise director. He famously turned down French Connection II, but the studio, perhaps noticing how the second French Connection turned out decently, decided to go ahead and turn it into a franchise. Still, the results, with one notable exception were a disaster. So without any further adieu, here’s our list of Exorcist movies ranked – from worst to best.
Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977)

ABC’s “20/20” presents a compelling and intricate tale of betrayal, conspiracy, and justice in its upcoming episode airing on May 17, 2024. The episode delves into the shocking murder of renowned beauty executive Fabio Sementilli at his home, a crime that captivated public attention and unraveled a web of deception.
Initially believed to be a botched robbery, the investigation took a dramatic turn when DNA evidence led authorities to focus on Robert Baker, a racquetball coach engaged in an affair with Fabio’s wife, Monica Sementilli. The revelation of this affair introduced a motive for murder, driven by a desire to escape their marriage and potentially benefit financially.
The subsequent trials and sentencing saw Baker plead no contest to charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, receiving a life sentence without parole. However, Monica Sementilli’s role in the murder remains contested, with her trial set for April 2024. The...

Blake Lively was unrecognizable in her role as a grieving woman who seeks revenge in Reed Morano’s The Rhythm Section. Lively’s Bond-style film flopped really badly at the box office. During the filming of a scene in the film, Lively injured her hand, requiring surgery and shutting down the production for six months. The critics praised Lively’s performance, but her sacrifices were not enough to save the film from an embarrassing fate.
Blake Lively in The Rhythm Section
The poor marketing efforts of the film did not help its case after a thinly written plot. The film had the all-time worst opening weekend record for a film playing over 3000 screens. By the end of the second week, Lively’s film was pulled from 2955 screens.

French actor-director Samuel Theis, best known for starring in Justine Triet’s awards season favorite Anatomy of a Fall, has been accused of rape by a crew member on Je te jure (I Swear), Theis’ latest directorial feature.
The French newspaper Libération broke the story and reported that the alleged assault took place last year at a party held in an apartment rented by the production where the crew member said they were too inebriated to consent to a sexual encounter with Theis.
Theis responded to Libération’s report, telling the newspaper that the encounter was consensual. His lawyer added in response that his client has not been charged or contacted by authorities. The newspaper reported that the crew member quit the production immediately after the alleged assault.

John Oliver opened the Nov. 19 episode of Last Week Tonight with a few jokes at the expense of both George Santos and Fabio.
Oliver noted at the start of his HBO show the news regarding disgraced congressman Santos, who, on Friday, became the first U.S. House member to be expelled in more than 20 years. He is also only the sixth House member in history to be removed by his colleagues.
The move came after Santos became the subject of a scathing ethics committee report on his conduct after details about his life story were found to be embellished or false. Among the claims he later admitted to fabricating were that he hailed from Jewish ancestors and worked at top Wall Street firms, including Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, along with where he went to college.
Prior to the expulsion, Oliver made a joke about Santos.

Stefanos Tsitsipas never missed Laver Cup when he could participate, and he won't this year either, hoping to lead Team Europe to glory.
Tsitsipas is the most experienced player on Team Europe out of all of those participating, and he hopes to use that experience to try and lead the team to victory. Tsitsipas was part of the team last year in London and watched Team World winning its first-ever Laver Cup.
He wasn't thrilled with it and certainly doesn't count it among his favourite Laver Cup memories. That would be the 2019 triumph in Geneva as they celebrated it, after which he counts as one of the coolest things that happened to him at the event.
My favorite memory was winning the title in Geneva. I spent that night with Roger, Fabio (Fognini), Sascha (Zverev), and the rest of the pack, celebrating and having fun. It was definitely very memorable...

Italian tennis legend Adriano Panatta had a few things to say about Jannik Sinner opting not to play Davis Cup this week.
It goes without saying that Panatta's views and opinion holds a lot of weight, especially when it comes to talking about Davis Cup. Panatta won the 1976 French Open, but is just as known for his accomplishments for his country at Davis Cup level.
He played an integral role in winning the Davis Cup for Italy in 1976 and would go on to reach a further three finals in addition. Panatta was openly really critical of Sinner's decision not to play for his country this week and his passion for the competition came across with some really strong words.
"Today, tennis players are businesses, and, as such, they only think about profit, especially those around them, forgetting history and feelings. He had already given up on Olympic Games, today...

Italian Davis Cup Captain Filippo Volandri responded to the claims Fabio Fognini made on Instagram about his exclusion from the team.
This whole row erupted because Fognini was left off the Italian Davis Cup team for the upcoming Finals. As proud as he is, Fognini didn't take that lightly and posted on the social media platform Instagram calling his exclusion disrespectful.
Filippo Volandri, a former player has now responded to these claims noting that, in his opinion, Fognini simply didn't meet the criteria to be called up. In fairness, Fognini didn't play that well and has experienced physical issues lately and considering how every match is important in the Davis Cup, it's only understandable why Volandri opted not to risk it.

What are the odds that two openly gay cut-ups doing a raunchy half-hour musical comedy routine in a Gristedes grocery store would somehow convince “Borat” director Larry Charles to turn their show, “Fucking Identical Twins,” into a feature-length A24 movie? You’d stand a better chance playing the lottery than predicting the path “Dicks: The Musical” took to reach the big screen — which is exactly why this twisted cross between “The Parent Trap” and “Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy” seems destined for cult status.
The absurdist brainchild of Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp, “Dicks” is an unapologetically puerile, hard-r novelty that’s just lo-fi enough to maintain its underground cred. If any other distributor were backing it, “Dicks” might shrivel into home-video obscurity. Considering A24’s bizart-house cachet, however, the hipster boutique should be able to leverage the buzz from the movie’s opening (mid)night berth at the...

‘Project Runway’ 20 episode 5 recap: The latest challenge has the designers ‘Seeing Red’ [Live Blog]
It has already been a topsy-turvy All-Stars season on “Project Runway.” The first challenge was all about redemption from past fashion sins and brought up such painful memories for one designer that he nearly self-eliminated. If I had asked you to name a film from the early 1990s that featured groundbreaking visuals effects that changed the landscape of cinema, you probably answer with Jurassic Park. But what if I told you that instead of dinosaurs, an earlier pioneer in visual effects was a satirical black comedy involving Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, and a magic potion? Yep, that’s right. That film does indeed exist and is none other than Death Becomes Her. Directed by the legendary Robert Zemeckis and co-written by David Koepp and Martin Donovan. The idea came to Koepp back when he was working on another film, which featured a story about a man’s attempts to kills his wife, who turns out to be a witch and cannot die. And of course, the witch has an axe to grind now that she knows her husband tried to off her. That idea later developed into Death Becomes Her.

Multiple reunions occur on The Witcher Season 3 Episode 3, and it's hard to tell which the title refers to or if it's meant to encompass all of them.
When Yennefer is reunited with her Aretuzan sisters, Ciri discovers a different side to her mentor and friend. This triggers all the entitled outrage a Cintran princess can muster. Not a good look for her, really, even if it does attract the Wild Hunt.

“Project Runway” returned on June 15 with a “Project Redemption!” challenge intended to rewrite history. The All-Star contestants had to take their worst looks from their respective seasons of “Runway” and reinvent them (and hopefully improve them). No rest for the weary, though, because what’s their next challenge? The always highly anticipated (for the audience) and dreaded (for the designers) unconventional materials challenge. Scroll down for our live blog with all this week’s developments and commentary as they happen.

Nora Pagel was eliminated in “Project Redemption!” after she chose an unforgiving fabric in a color that highlighted all her technical mistakes and washed out her model. That leaves 13 designers competing for a second chance at the “Project Runway” title: Brittany Allen (Season 18), Prajje Oscar Jean Baptiste (Season 19), Laurence Basse (Season 15), Fabio Costa...

So, I stated in a review from a couple of weeks ago that the Summer movie season has officially begun with the early May foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And just when does the movie madness kick in, where’s the big action blockbusters? Well, it goes full-throttle right now as we shift (see what I’m doing here) from the MCU to the F&fu (maybe I should leave off that last letter). We can officially call this one of our most enduring film franchises as it’s now well over 21 (so don’t imbibe before sliding into the driver’s seat). This weekend, and for a few weeks thereafter, action enthusiasts will buckle up at the multiplex for Fast X. And man, you can pop your corn on those searing engines.

The first-round match at the 2023 Italian Open took a bitter twist, as a controversial umpire decision left Andy Murray and his brother Jamie shocked.
Fresh off a victorious streak in Aix-En-Provence at the Atp Challenger event, the spotlight was firmly on Andy Murray as he stepped into the clay courts of Rome for the 2023 Italian Open. His opponent? None other than the charismatic Fabio Fognini, a home crowd favourite, presenting an uphill battle for the Scottish star.
The atmosphere was electric, with thousands of Italian fans rallying behind Fognini, lending a distinctly challenging edge to Murray's first-round match. However, the tension escalated to a boiling point when a questionable umpiring decision threw a wrench into what was already a high-stakes game.
The incident in question took place in the first set. Fognini's lob, which appeared to go out according to the replay, was declared in by the umpire, Mohamed Lahyani.

Andy Murray made sure to make his thoughts heard after the first-round incident at the 2023 Italian Open in Rome.
After a triumphant run in Aix-En-Provence at an Atp Challenger event, Murray entered the 2023 Italian Open draw with high hopes, but his first-round opponent was a very difficult one as it was the home crowd favourite Fabio Fognini.
Although it was already quite difficult for Murray because of playing an Italian in the capital with a full stadium behind him, one situation in the first set made it even harder as Mohamed Lahyani made a wrong call after Fognini's lob.
Even during the match, the Scot was 100% sure that the ball was out as he kept repeating that to the umpire. When Lahyani came to check the mark initially, he said: "The linesman called it good, there's a little bit here, it's just touching there," pointing to a spot on the...

Clear the runway! It’s time to revisit Zoolander… Directed and co-written by Ben Stiller, the film focuses on Derek Zoolander, a slow-witted supermodel, who becomes embroiled in an international conspiracy to assassinate the Prime Minister of Malaysia by the top people in the fashion industry, namely Jacobim Mugatu and Derek’s agent Maury Ballstein, before he can pass progressive labor laws in his country that would harm their businesses. Zoolander is recruited as a pawn and brainwashed into killing him during a fashion show. If that wasn’t enough, Derek faces an identity crisis due to his declining popularity, his family’s embarrassment of his occupation, and his search for a higher calling in life besides being ridiculously good looking. Thanks to his friend and eventual love interest, journalist Matilda Jeffries, Derek becomes aware of the planned assassination plot. Once Derek squashes his beef with competing male model Hansel,...

Ashton Kutcher wears a lot of hats these days. He’s a producer, entrepreneur, husband, and father. But most know him for his acting in comedies like That 70s Show and Two and a Half Men. Rio de Janeiro, Feb 24 (Ians) Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain survived a two-hour and 47-minute battle against Italy’s Fabio Fognini to secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the Atp 500 Rio Open, here.
In a rematch of their 2022 Rio de Janeiro semifinal, Alcaraz earned an entertaining 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4 victory, improving to 6-0 on the season on Thursday night.
“It’s always a challenge to play Fabio. He’s such a talented player and we never know what he’s going to do. It was a match with highs and lows. I started pretty well but I missed some opportunities and when you’re playing against someone like him you can’t afford to do that. It was a long and tough match and I think that in the end I was a bit better physically,” Alcaraz was quoted as saying by the tournament’s website.
The world no.

What makes for an entertaining dating show? Is it a truly twisted concept, like keeping people physically separated in Love Is Blind, or making a bunch of horny moms go after each other’s adult sons in Milf Manor? Is it the assurance that attractive people will bang at some point, which seems to be the selling point of Too Hot to Handle and Love Island? Or do we just want to see couples thrust into intense circumstances, as with Married at First Sight and 90 Day Fiancé?

“Pathaan,” the new Bollywood espionage action spectacular, opened wide this past weekend in the U.S., where it took home an impressive tally of 9.5 million. That’s exactly what “Rrr” made on its opening weekend in the U.S. close to a year ago — though, of course, that was before “Rrr” went on to become a crossover cultural phenomenon, with a visibility and acclaim in the American media that Bollywood films seldom, if ever, attain.
Nothing like that’s going to happen to “Pathaan.” The new movie is far more typical of Bollywood than “Rrr” was: a sprawling, mountainous tangle of pulp that stacks one genre on top of the next with an arbitrary verve. The film is held together mostly by the glue of its kinetic visual energy and by the iconic quality of its stars: Shah Rukh Khan, who plays a kind of James Bond meets Jason Bourne meets Jason Statham meets Fabio,...

With a string of idiosyncratic filmmakers, studio interference, and more 180-degree turns than Linda Blair's head, "The Exorcist" must be one of the strangest franchises to ever come out of Hollywood. That said, its flaws are also a boon -- the films are far more interesting than the usual cookie-cutter horror sequels, with each entry feeling like a personal statement from its director, for better or worse. Well, usually for the worse.
Case in point: 1990's "The Exorcist III." After the goofy metaphysics of John Boorman's widely derided "Exorcist II: The Heretic," "The Exorcist" writer and author William Peter Blatty pitched a story called "Legion" for another sequel that would ignore the events of Boorman's film. Warner Bros. was keen, but after "The Exorcist" director William Friedkin left due to creative differences, the project ended up languishing in development hell. Blatty decided to turn "Legion" into a novel...

Similarly, Hulu’s new drama Welcome to Chippendales gets a significant boost midway through the premiere when Murray Bartlett shows up as the Emmy-winning director with Big Ideas who quickly partners with Kumail Nanjiani’s Somen “Steve” Banerjee.
TVLine recently chatted with Bartlett, who earlier this year took home his own Emmy for playing beleaguered hotel manager Armond in HBO’s White Lotus. Topics included: Fabio, dancing with dishtowels and an “incredibly challenging” aspect of mirroring choreography. Read on for his thoughts.

We knew that Final Fantasy 16 was going to be an untraditional Final Fantasy game in several ways, but we now know the game will draw from some truly unusual sources that include divisive sequels to classic ’80s comedies.
In an extensive interview with IGN, Final Fantasy 16 director Hiroshi Takai, localization director Michael-Christopher Koji Fox, creative director Kazutoyo Maehiro, and producer Naoki Yoshida took the time to share some new details about the game. While the entire interview is fascinating (reporter Kat Bailey’s interviews rarely miss), some of the most incredible tidbits to emerge from the discussion concern some of the game’s outside influences.
For instance, the Ff 16 team was asked about whether or not the 2023 game’s medieval atmosphere and slightly more politically-driven storytelling were at all influenced by Game of Thrones or The Witcher. Here’s what Michael-Christopher Koji Fox had to say on that subject:

As the old saying goes, once you reach the top, the only way to go is down. Perhaps that’s a part of the reason why so many “Survivor” winners never returned to play again. There have been 39 winners over the past 41 seasons, and of those a whopping 27 played multiple times. Thus, over the past two decades, 12 “Survivor” champions took home the 1 million check and never looked back — or were never asked back. See the full list below.
Several winners found success on their second go-around, like Amber Brkich (“All-Stars”) and Parvati Shallow (“Micronesia”). For others it took a long while to get there, like Rob Mariano (“Redemption Island”), who didn’t prevail until his fourth season.
Some of the most recent champs like Chris Underwood (Season 38), Tommy Sheehan (Season 39) and Erika Casupanan (Season 41) haven’t had a chance to return to the game quite yet, but we’re optimistic...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not seen “A Scintillating Conversation About a Lethal Pesticide” and “You Happened to Me,” Episodes 9 and 10 of “Minx.”

In the HBO Max comedy, created by Ellen Rapoport, Parham plays Shelly, the older sister of Joyce Prigger (Ophelia Lovibond). Joyce has just launched the feminist magazine she’s been dreaming of her entire life — with a catch: the only person who would help her get it off...

Channing Tatum modeled the look of his “The Lost City” character after Brad Pitt.
On “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Thursday, Tatum shared with DeGeneres that working with Pitt was a dream, and that he was inspired by one of Pitt’s movies for his own romance novel cover model character’s look.
“I gave a note. I have to wear a wig for my cover model sort of look, Dash’s look, and I said ‘I just want to look like “Legends of the Fall” Brad Pitt. ‘Could you please just make me that? Make me as close to that as you can possibly make me,'” he said.
Tatum’s character Dash, who he compares to Fabio, models for covers of romance novels written by Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock). In the film, Dash rescues Loretta after eccentric billionaire Abigail Fairfax (Daniel Radcliffe) kidnaps her.

At first glance, “The Lost City” has all the hallmarks of “Romancing the Stone” repackaged for millennials and Zoomers.
We get Sandra Bullock assuming the Kathleen Turner role as a romance novelist who holds the key to the whereabouts of a remote hidden treasure. Daniel Radcliffe steps into the Danny DeVito part, albeit with more urbanity, as the novelist’s ruthless kidnapper with a passing Napoleon complex, who’s seeking said treasure. And Brad Pitt fills in for Michael Douglas as a raffish man of adventure who comes to the novelist’s rescue — though here in a reduced capacity.
That’s a good thing because Channing Tatum is the one who actually shares top billing with Bullock, and his Fabio-esque character is an original creation that helps the new film steer clear of a potential copyright claim.
At the prompting of her publisher, Beth (Da’Vine Joy Randolph), the reclusive Loretta...

Stuart Gordon was a true master, and a visionary of those cold places where darkness reigns and the indescribable refuse to be ignored. But Gordon had a secret weapon that set him apart from the others who tried to exhume Lovecraft for the big screen: Humor. Prevalent in his spectacular debut, Re-Animator (1985), it is deployed with subtle shading – by Gordon’s Grand Guignol designs, that is – in his follow-up From Beyond (1986); a film no less entertaining, just as gory, way goopier, and très salace. (That’s French. It means ‘super horny’. I run a classy joint here.)
Released late October by Charles Band’s Empire Pictures, From Beyond was met with acclaim but relatively little return at the box office, ensuring a cult status very much earned; that it still resonates (foreshadowing pun!) with horror audiences today is a lasting testament to it – and Gordon’s – appeal.

Channing Tatum loves a good costume. Just watch “Magic Mike” or “G.I. Joe” (or his Instagram account). In “The Lost City,” he adds to his ever-expanding look book with Dash — a model who graces the cover of a series of romance novels by a bestselling author (Sandra Bullock), the victim of a kidnapping scheme. In the upcoming Paramount Pictures comedy, Tatum dons an unbuttoned white linen shirt and acid-washed jeans as he shows off his golden locks.
Tatum, 41, wanted the hairpiece to pay homage to a range of iconic hunks. “I definitely have a Fabio wig,” he says over breakfast one morning at a restaurant near his home in Los Angeles. “But my inspiration was the man himself that’s in our movie, Brad — from ‘Legends of the Fall.’” Yes, Brad (as in Pitt) makes a cameo in “The Lost City,” which opens in theaters on March 25. “I was like,...
