Lupita Nyong’o radiated a female boss vibe as she kicked off the press tour for A Quiet Place: Day One in London on Wednesday. She was hard to ignore in her springtime pink suit, but her adorable plus one—a black-and-white feline—instantly captured my attention.

Lupita is starring in the upcoming apocalyptic horror film A Quiet Place: Day One, a spin-off prequel and the third installment in the A Quiet Place film series based on the story by Emily Blunt’s husband, John Krasinski.

As the 77th Cannes Film Festival approaches, more news emerges from Thierry Frémaux's office. The latest story concerns the Honorary Palme d'Or. While a rare plaudit in its genesis, the award has become a mainstay of the most recent festivals, with each edition involving multiple winners. Still, the number of trophies usually stops at two per year. Not so in 2024, when Cannes will give three Honorary Palmes d'Or. The first winner announced was George Lucas, who'll be 80 this month, and then came Studio Ghibli as the first awarded collective. Finally, we have Meryl Streep, who'll be a guest of honor at the Opening Ceremony and receive one of the highest honors in the film world…...

“There was still so much mystery and tension, and I found myself scoring more than I ever scored before in the show with all the new characters,” reveals Siddhartha Khosla. The Emmy-nominated composer returned for Season 3 of “Only Murders in the Building” to expand the sonic identity of Hulu’s comedic murder mystery. “On a show like this, we don’t have tons of time, so we get the cuts, score them, they’re in,” remarks Khosla, “And especially since the score is sort of baked into the identity of the show, the themes and the ideas have to be there sort of early on.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
“I’m a singer songwriter before I was ever a composer for TV and film. So I think of everything like these little songs,” says Khosla of his approach to composing. He constructs a theme for each character, complete...

Lydia Deetz, her stepmother Delia and her daughter Astrid stand over a casket, the burial services in progress. We can barely make out who the funeral is for but there he is on the headstone: Charles Deetz. While Charles was once part of the Beetlejuice sequel when the ghost with the most was to “go Hawaiian”, he was written entirely out of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice…for reasons that will soon be obvious.
Despite the original’s and sequel’s dalliances with the afterlife, Jeffrey Jones will not be in Beetlejuice – or pretty much any other legitimate movie – following his disgraceful tumble from his small but reliable spotlight. Perfectly fitting into prestigious period pieces and goofball funny flicks. Jones is a Golden Globe nominee with consistent work – a mix of villain, comedic and at times patriarchal roles, Jeffrey Jones went from Ferris Bueller baddie to Who’s Your Caddy?

Fierce protests: The 2024 Cannes Film Festival opens in less than a fortnight and is once again set to be the backdrop to fierce French labor protests. Zac revealed earlier this week that a collection of around 200 French film festival workers — a combination of Cannes workers and workers from other festivals across France — are planning protests during the event over pay. The group’s frustrations are two-fold: they are first rallying against the pay packages they receive from their employers, which they say are inadequate and do not account for arduous overtime hours frequently clocked due to job demands, while the second bone of contention is France’s unique unemployment insurance program for entertainment workers and technicians. Known as Intermittence de Spectacle, the scheme supports entertainment workers on...

Three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep will be awarded an honorary Palme d’Or at the opening ceremony of the 74th edition of the Cannes Film Festival (May 14-25).
Streep will follow in the footsteps of previous recipients, including Jeanne Moreau, Catherine Deneuve, Alain Delon, Jean-Pierre Léaud, Jane Fonda, Agnès Varda, Forest Whittaker and Jodie Foster.
The opening ceremony will mark Streep’s first appearance at the festival in over 35 years. She last attended Cannes in 1989, when she won the best actress prize for her role as a mother accused of infanticide in Fred Schepisi’s Evil Angels.

Emily Blunt’s first Oscar nomination was for the type of role the actress doesn’t normally play. Over the course of her career, the London-born actress has played badass action heroes, musical heroines, even delightfully bitchy supporting comic parts. But in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” Blunt goes into a totally different mode to play a embittered and humorless long-suffering wife type. It’s a jarring transformation; but, given her versatility, a predictably excellent one.
Born to a former actress and barrister in London, Blunt studied acting in boarding school and began her professional career at 18, when she debuted on a West End production of the play “The Royal Family.” In 2003 she transitioned to screen acting with the British miniseries “Boudica” and “Henry VIII,” before making her theatrical film debut as a haughty, arrogant rich girl in independent drama “My Summer of Love” in 2004.

The cast of The Devil Wears Prada has dominated Hollywood for years, and they’ve all made a lot of money in the process.
Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep are arguably the three stars most closely associated with the classic movie. They proved that they still have a strong bond during a reunion earlier this year.
At the moment, both Anne and Emily have new movies out – The Idea of You and The Fall Guy, respectively. That and their recent reunion got us thinking about the cast again, and we were curious how much everyone was worth.
We did some digging and looked at the estimated net worth of the biggest celebrities to appear in the movie. You might be surprised to learn that none of the above-mentioned stars land at the top spot and only one of the is even in the top three.
The top earner is worth approximately $1.5 billion.

Given her one-of-a-kind awards resume and irrefutable status as an acting legend, it’s no wonder Meryl Streep is widely expected to be honored at this year’s Emmys for her work on Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” Taking the gold for her first regular comedy series role would be impressive enough, but the noteworthiness of her win would extend far beyond that. Having joined her show in its third season, she would be only the 10th non-original comedy series cast member to ever pull off a lead or supporting Emmy victory.
Not including sketch performers, Streep would be said winners club’s first new entrant in over three decades. The last was Kirstie Alley, who replaced Shelley Long as the female lead of “Cheers” at the start of season six and prevailed on her third Emmy bid in 1991. That same year, supporting “Cheers” actress Bebe Neuwirth achieved...

2023 was the end of an era in the Best Comedy Supporting Actress Emmy category. For the first time in 10 years, “Saturday Night Live” was snubbed in the category in which it has been nominated a record 22 times and has won twice, both for Kate MicKinnon. Can it rebound in 2024?
Ever since the TV academy allowed “SNL” cast members to enter in the comedy acting categories in 2008, the sketch series has dominated supporting actress, with 2013 and 2023 being the only years it has failed to earn a nomination. McKinnons is “SNL’s” most nominated performer in the category — and overall — with nine bids, the second most in the category after Rhea Perlman and Loretta Swit, who each received 10.
After McKinnon’s final nomination for her final season in 2022, it was clear that “SNL” might struggle to continue its nomination streak. She was “SNL’s” only nominee in the category that year, down...

Songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are one step away from achieving Egot status, needing only an Emmy to complete the prestigious quartet of entertainment honors. The duo has submitted “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?” from Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” for outstanding music and lyrics at this year’s Emmys. If they are nominated and win at the September ceremony, Pasek and Paul will become the 20th and 21st Egot recipients, joining the ranks of legends Richard Rodgers, Marvin Hamlisch and Elton John.
The song, co-written with celebrated composers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, is performed by Steve Martin in the show’s eighth episode, “Sitzprobe,” helmed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini. It will be the only original song the series submits this year, chosen over others such as “Look for the Light,” performed by Meryl Streep and Ashley Park, and two versions...

Steve Martin is wild and crazy over season 4 of Only Murders in the Building.
“It’s star-studded,” Martin said to People of the new season, which has been filming in New York City. “And I’m going to say we’re about halfway through, and we are really enjoying this season.”
“We think it could be one of our best seasons,” he adds. “Although they’re all flawless.”
The upcoming season will find Charles (Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) “searching for answers about who killed Sazz.
Season 4 will also include the return of Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd, as well as a new cast of characters that includes Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis and Molly Shannon.

Hulu has big things coming down the pipe for Only Murders in the Building. Steve Martin said this week that the group is about halfway done filming, and that the cast of the upcoming season 4 will be “star-studded.”
Only Murders has made headlines in previous seasons for its glitzy guest stars, which have included Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd, Jesse Williams, Jane Lynch, Amy Schumer, Cara Delevingne and more. Season four is set to include new characters from Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis, Kumail Nanjiani and Molly Shannon.
It’s unclear if Martin’s comments were referring to even more not-yet-named stars who will join the cast, but he told People this week that he and his co-stars believe season four “could be one of our best seasons” (though he added that “they’re all flawless”).

Cher offered a very concise and, to be honest, pretty reasonable explanation for why she tends to date younger men: The older ones are either cowards or dead.
The singer/actress dropped this nugget of wisdom on the Jennifer Hudson Show while discussing the time she turned down Elvis. Cher admitted it wasn’t so much a rejection as her own reservations taking hold — “I was kind of nervous of his reputation” — before going on to say she’s “really shy” when she’s not working and often shy around men.

Nicole Kidman hung out with Miles Teller, Reese Witherspoon, Lee Daniels, Meryl Streep and Zac Efron at the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award: A Tribute to Nicole Kidman at Dolby Theatre on Saturday night in Los Angeles.

Kidman attended the event with her country music star husband, Keith Urban, and their daughters Sunday, 15, and Faith, 13.
Kidman has two adopted children from her previous relationship with Tom Cruise. Their daughter Bella, 31, recently shared a selfie rocking a mullet. Their son Connor, 29, is a DJ.
Bella and Connor choose to keep their lives private and stay out of the spotlight. They are estranged from Kidman, while Cruise had full custody of them after their divorce in 2001.

Chris Pine, Cynthia Erivo, Kieran Culkin, Sharon Stone and Rosie Perez celebrated Jeff Bridges’ seven-decade career at the 49th annual Chaplin Awards Gala in New York City on Monday night. But the Big Lebowski star almost chose a different career path.
During his acceptance speech for the Film at Lincoln Center‘s prestigious honor, the True Grit star shared that he originally “resisted” the idea of pursuing acting full-time for a few different reasons.
“It made me nervous, anxious, and I had other things I wanted to do,” he told the full auditorium at Alice Tully Hall. “I was very much into music. I loved ceramics, painting, and who wants to do what their parents do anyway?”
He recalled his father, actor Lloyd Bridges, explaining to him that he could do all of those things in this career path and use them all to some degree, which was one of the beauties of the job.

“It was a song that called out for as much writing and as many words as possible,” reveals Marc Shaiman of the epic tongue twister tune “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?” This patter song at the heart of “Only Murders in the Building” Season 3 proved so complex that the initial songwriting team of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul felt compelled to recruit another writing duo, Shaiman and Scott Wittman, to help with the intricate rhymes. “It really was one of those more-is-more kind of songs,” admits Paul, “and so we all had a blast.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
According to Pasek, the incredible “ambition” of this season spurred him and Paul to reach out to another writing team. “It felt like to us, what an amazing opportunity to get to work with people that we love and bring in a couple of other voices to help shape a score,...

With the May 31 Emmys eligibility cutoff almost exactly one month away, Emmys-related action is picking up.

Meanwhile, in New York, Peter Morgan, creator and principal writer of Netflix’s The Crown, was feted at the opening of his new Broadway play Patriots. When Nicole Kidman was honored with the AFI Life Achievement Award, she spent a large portion of her speech thanking the directors whom she’s worked with throughout the years. The respect for the job, though, doesn’t she mean has any desire to step behind the camera herself.
“I feel like I would be a terrible director because I always have so many ideas. A director has to make choices, and that’s not my strong suit,” Kidman told The Hollywood Reporter on Saturday night on the AFI red carpet, noting that a producer’s duties much more align with her interests. “I’m very good at being passionate and supporting the voices and reading a script and going, ‘I love this script,’ or seeing somebody and going, ‘I love this actor, I love this director, how do I support them?’ And they maybe have done nothing [before], but I want to get behind them.

“I think it was Andy Warhol who said, “Make art and let others decide whether it is good or bad. But while they are deciding, make some more”.
That was the line with which Nicole Kidman ended her 15-minute acceptance speech after Meryl Streep had presented her with the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award.
That is something that seems entirely appropriate for Kidman, who doesn’t seem to stop “making art,” taking risks at every turn, telling stories through her power not just as an actor, but also a producer dedicated to bringing those stories to screens big and small. At 56, she is on the younger side of the previous 48 recipients of this very high honor, the first Australian to receive it. Since last year’s winner – Ayo Edebiri (“The Bear”) – is now campaigning as a lead, this race is wide open to an array of possible newcomers, past contenders, and even a few former winners.
At this point, the clear frontrunner is potential category first-timer Meryl Streep (“Only Murders in the Building”), who previously achieved two Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress wins for “Holocaust” (1978) and “Angels in America” (2004). Hoping to challenge her are three of Edebiri’s “The Bear” cast mates: Liza Colon-Zayas, Abby Elliott, and Molly Gordon.
Of Edebiri’s six 2023 competitors, only two – “Abbott Elementary” pair Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph – are involved in the current race. Ralph took this prize for the same series in 2022, defeating Hannah Einbinder...

Anne Hathaway‘s performance in The Devil Wears Prada is one that we are still thinking about nearly twenty years later. However, you might be interested to learn that she wasn’t the first choice for the role!
In fact, while on RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2021, the actress said that she was the ninth choice to play the aspiring journalist who finds herself thrust into the fashion world alongside Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt.
This week Anne weighed in on the fan-favorite movie getting a sequel during an interview. It got us curious, and we did some digging to see who else could have starred in the movie. While we weren’t able to find all eight of the stars who were considered before Anne, We did round up seven.
The list even includes one star who turned an offer down three times and later admitted to feeling “guilty” about the decision!

Nicole Kidman is the rare actress in the 21st century who, like the stars of Hollywood’s golden years, doesn’t disappear into roles so much as elevate films by her mere presence.
She’s certainly swung big at mainstream blockbusters (think: the “Aquaman” films) that might feel out of her step with her character-driven work elsewhere (like most of the films on the list that follows). But that’s because the Australian icon is unafraid of any role, whether stripping down her post-Oscar, A-lister veneer to film Lars von Trier’s Brechtian “Dogville” in Sweden, slipping into a bathtub with the 10-year-old possible reincarnation of her dead husband in Jonathan Glazer’s “Birth,” or, yes, donning a fake nose to play a suicidal Virginia Woolf for her Oscar-winning turn in “The Hours.”

“Every season we’ve had some sort of theme or inspiration for Mabel’s costumes,” reveals Dana Covarrubias when referencing the character played by Selena Gomez on “Only Murders in the Building.” While the main players in the Hulu comedy mount a Broadway musical, eagle-eyed viewers might have noticed that Mabel’s outfits get a theatrical flair as well. The Emmy-nominated costume designer incorporated a nod to Broadway musicals into nearly every outfit that Mabel wears during Season 3. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
“We thought it would be appropriate to use Broadway musicals and movie musicals as our inspiration,” continues Covarrubias. This doesn’t mean that Mabel is suddenly donning a Ziegfeld follies getup with sequins and feathers. She still retains her signature New Yorker style. “It’s just a nod to either the color of a costume or the silhouette,” explains the designer.

Back in 2006, Anne Hathaway’s The Devil Wears Prada, a dramedy about the harsh realities of working in the fashion world, became a massively popular hit, which is still rewatched and discussed by millions of fans. One of the most debatable issues regarding it is who is the real villain of the movie, as it’s not so simple to figure out as it may seem.
The most obvious answer lies right in the title of the movie, which implies Miranda Priestly, the main heroine’s boss, portrayed by Meryl Streep, to be quite a diabolic woman. Indeed, she’s egoistic, cruel to literally everyone she encounters on her way.
Nevertheless, there is a significant part of the fandom which justifies Miranda’s behavior, stating she is who she is because her position implies such a level of rigor and frivolity and recalling her ambition to make Andy reach her fullest potential.
