All Time Top 50 Animated movies (no hollywood)

by luckyredz | created - 14 Jan 2016 | updated - 3 months ago | Public

I UPDATE THIS LIST EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS to keep it fresh.

This is my list of my favourite animated movies from around the world so far. I consider each of these to be beautifully made masterpieces. I am certain you will find some gems on here you have not seen before.

There is zero hollywood movies in here, or anything closely relating to dragon ball z esc animation. If that's your thing, go elsewhere. I'm not saying they are bad, but that's not what this list is about.

List is kind of ordered in some way but not strictly in order of favourites... well you gotta split up the Studio Ghibli somehow ;) Feel free to leave a comment if you have any suggestions!

A series of 7 movies. For me this is the thing that got me properly back into anime (my 3rd time round after akira and spirited away). Quality mix of beautiful animation, character building, action, and emotional content. But be aware, it's quite confusing as they aren't in chronological order. I've made sense of it but i've watched the series 3 times now.

Another classic. Mamoru Hosoda's best in my opinion, but wolf children, summer wars, and the boy and the beast are also great watches.

Do you like randomness??? This is your film (and mind game). So much switching of animated styles, and a rather adult theme. Be prepared for tangents and about as many metaphorical things as you can throw into one movie. Drink Drink Drink Drink Book.

Part history lesson on epic Indian tale of Ramayana, part comedy, part 1920s themed musical. Can't really compare it to anything else.

Votes: 22,622 | Gross: $0.64M

I'll be honest I haven't had the patience for the original black & white movie. But for me this is the best animated movie about the future of human/robot/cyborg. The final scene... one of the best of any movie imo. Other notable human/cyborg crossover films worth noting > Time of Eve, & obvs Ghost in a shell.

8. Ninja Scroll (1993)

Votes: 40,747

I've only included a handful of manga movies from the 90's as for me animation quality is a big thing, and well with better technology comes better graphics (yeah it's obvious of course i know). So yeah maybe the best action manga from the 90's????
