The Big Bang Theory (2007)
One of the Best Comedies of All Time
This show is light hearted and fun the whole way through. It starts great and it ends great. One of the best things about it is, the characters grow while remaining true to their core character. The writing and acting are all excellent throughout. I really appreciate that the show manages to steer clear of politics and other possibly divisive issues, for the most part. Instead it focuses on the fun comedic nature of all the characters.
It just turns into one of those shows you can't wait for the next episode of. Thank you to all the actors, writers, producers and staff who made something to fun and endearing.
Futurama (1999)
This show is just the best!
I'm watching the re-re-boot and couldn't be happier with it. It's just as funny as previous seasons and the original re-boot. They've stayed true to the characters, storyline, etc. They've managed keep or improve upon all the things that have made this show so fun and so funny. You'd think that after 20ish years it would get old, but it doesn't. Bender, Fry, and all the rest are classic and so funny.
If you've never watched the show, watch it from the beginning, you won't regret it.
If you watched it in the past, but are worried about the re-re- boot, don't be, it's just as good as it's always been.
I appreciate them bringing it back, again, and again!
The Boys (2019)
Great show, but the third season went too far.
This is such a well done show, so engaging and interesting with great characters and back stories. The special effects are great and Karl Urban is awesome as Butcher. The first and second seasons have some shocking scenes with a lot of graphic violence, etc. But the third season just goes too far for me. And, that's coming from someone who was fine with the first and second seasons. There are just far too many scenes in the third season that were too gross, and done only for shock value. It's not necessarily the violence, but the childish nudity/depravity and other really bizarre things that pushed it over the line for me. I probably won't be back for season four unless they dial back the shock factor/depravity quite a bit and go back to just the standard levels of obscene violence. My score would be a 9 or 10 for seasons one and two, but season three drops my score to a 5.
Joker (2019)
Amazing in So Many Ways
This is a dark and depressing movie to watch. But, the acting is superb, Joaquin Phoenix's performance is just stellar. The acting, directing, and writing is excellent. Haunting, but excellent.
As others have pointed out, this incarnation isn't the mastermind we'd expect from the Joker. And that is definitely a fair point. This version of the joker is probably more true to what you'd expect to see in real life, not a comic.
I really wish DC would get their act together and bring some cohesion to the mess that is DC. But, this movie is really impressive, Phoenix knocked it out of the park. It's a great movie.
Tacoma FD (2019)
Way Funnier Than I Expected
I found the show on HBO Max and have really enjoyed it. It's light hearted and funny. They've got a great cast with really good chemistry. I initially thought it would be a little more vulgar, but it's not. It's something that just about anyone can enjoy. It has an occasional edge to it, but it's usually within the bounds of a good, easy to watch sit com. I really hope they keep making episodes of it. Usually I don't catch shows like this until they've been off the air for 5+ years, so it's great to catch this one while they are still making it. Great characters, funny show, good premise. Give it a chance, you'll probably like it.
The Curse of Bridge Hollow (2022)
Keep Politics Out of Kids Movies
I wanted to like this movie. It has a Wayans in it and the girl from Stranger Things. I expected a fun family romp, and it was. But...the racial jokes start off almost right away and are completely unnecessary. They move away from them a bit as the movie progresses, but they're just not appropriate or necessary.
Aside from that, it was just ok. It feels like it's goofy and directed at littler kids but it has some pretty scary characters later that might be a bit much for littler audience members. It definitely won't be a Halloween classic but it was a fun one to watch once and move on to something else. If it wasn't for the racist/political jokes it would have gotten several more stars.
Black Gold (2011)
Very Entertaining
It's not a great movie, but it's very entertaining and well done. I had it on, but didn't plan on paying much attention to it. However, I found it to be quite engaging and entertaining.
The Silence (2019)
People Expect Too Much
It was an entertaining movie with a good story line and CGI. Was it amazing? No, not really, but it was a really entertaining movie, nowhere near as bad as what others have surmised.
Morbius (2022)
Cool movie, fun to watch.
It doesn't have the best character development and it could use some work, but overall it was a fun and entertaining movie. It wasn't a great movie, but I'm not sure why people are trashing it so hard.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021)
Great show, far too political. People deserve a break from politics.
This is a really great show, it's fun and exciting. The production quality is great and the banter is excellent. However, it's far too political. Kamal K's review on October 6, 2021 calls out a lot of the political issues in good detail, so I won't repeat them here. I'm not usually pedantic about story lines, but the political elements were distracting.
You can't open a web browser, check your email, turn on the TV, or scroll through social media without being bombarded with politics. It's literally everywhere, every day. People want and deserve a break, and the MCU is a great source for that. I don't need my MCU content to contain political messages that challenge the issues of our times. I get that from 100 other sources every day, I don't need to hear it from fictional superheroes. This country is drowning in politics every day, from both sides. Give us a break and just let us enjoy bold, exciting, and altruistic superheroes who do amazing things for the benefit of everyone.
Muppets Haunted Mansion (2021)
Fun Movie
If you enjoy The Muppets you'll have fun watching it. It could have been a little better and other reviewers make some valid complaints, but it was a fun movie.
Green Lantern (2011)
10 Years Later, I Still Don't Understand...
I still don't understand why this movie is so loathed. It's not amazing, but it's certainly not terrible. Some parts are a little goofy but you get at least a couple of those in even the best comic book movies. The acting is good, the story is fun and the special effects are really good. I remember walking out of the theater when it came out thinking it was pretty cool. I watched it casually a few times since then and every time I keep looking for something to justify the beating the critics gave it and I just can't find it. I would argue, aside from the Christopher Nolan Batman movies...it's actually one of the better DC movies. I'd be stoked if they made a sequel.
