A long time ago, Jabez Stone (James Craig) is a farmer with nothing but bad luck. In desperation, he offers to sell his soul to the devil and the devil answers his call.
This is a classic tale which is similar to some bigger classics. In the same way, James Craig is a secondary movie star who is more known for being similar to bigger stars. I would have liked this being done with a more charismatic lead. Jabez is a juicy role. He's more than a handsome lead. His character goes through a lot and transforms. The other roles are well met with solid character actors especially award winning Walter Huston who delivers a very compelling devil. So it's a great story and a very good movie. It has great acting although the lead leaves me a little wanting.
