Good Luck to You, Leo Grande (2022)
McCormack and Thompson
I'm sure there are prudes who can't handle a beautiful vivacious intelligent middle-aged woman paying for sex w a young man 30 years her junior (her son's age). A whole movie about that? Hardly. Two admirable people dealing e all the layers of intimacy and vulnerability we all face. Wonderful screenplay. Astounding acting. Two great roles for two great actors. Movie is a 10.
Ted Lasso (2020)
Never Before
I am so impressed w this show. Heart, intelligent, tender, funny, weird as hell, astounding and touching. Great writing. Impressive characters. So wonderful. One of the best ever.
A Rainy Day in New York (2019)
Better
This is a lot better than I thought it would be. Definitely Woody all the way.
United States of Al (2021)
Surprising
Sad that people seem to be missing the intelligence of this gentle loving humor. So far I am very impressed with all actors and the show's intentions and social import. See thru your cynicism and bias, its all a form of not getting it.
The High Note (2020)
Stories About Strong Creative Women
Great story; impressive acting. Love the musical Rocky orientation. But what is so special is that it is about women and battles over being strong.
Sylvie's Love (2020)
Throw Back So Much More
Great love story. Lovely characters all the way around. A romance; classic 60s vibe; great depiction of upper middle class Black life in NYC; so much more.
Never Have I Ever (2020)
Addictive
I am very impressed with this show. Mindy Kaling's voice and imprint is obvious, but the storyline, actors and dialogue take this show to a very emotionally connective level that is surprisingly touching. Also John McEnroe is a stroke of genius. I am so impressed and happy. Thanks MK!
Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (2020)
A Musical Antidote to 2020
I've always loved storylines where people break into song. So often the writing tries to work the music into the story. Here in Zoey they've kind of tipped over the wheelbarrow fearlessly. Song and dance kind of has a place in the plot, but really it's functioning more the way music does in real life for all of us...our deepest selves and the lost bits of our souls glide and bump and grind with the soundtracks playing in our heads. Zoey as a story, then, is kind of genius! (I'm writing this listening to a Pat Metheny-Eberhard Weber album).
Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist also serves (much like God Friended Me) as a gentle antidote to the crazy, screwy, nutso, ignorant times everyone is trying to force each other to live. It doesn't need to be that way. Thanks Zoey, et al. Keep up the good work! I give the show 8 stars right now only because I think there's room to grow and for everyone to get in-synch. It can be a 9.5 or 10 if NBC gives the time and care required.
Mr. Church (2016)
In This Age
Kept ignoring this on our NetFlix offerings. Finally saw the trailer. Watched w my wife tonite and loved every minute of this. Eddie Murphy is stupendous in a dramatic role. Britt Robertson is the next Jen Lawrence. Natascha McElhone is radiant and loving like few other actresses. This world needs more heart and love. Mr Church helps w that immensely.
