2149: The Aftermath (2016)
Well groomed survivors with designer clothes
Started watching but lost interest when the survivor characters with perfect make up, professional hair styling and designer survivalist clothes ruin the credibility of the story.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
About Hollywood by Hollywood for people who care about Hollywood
I don't get the fuss about this movie; it is good, but I can't see the masterpiece I hear about. The actors are excellent and, if I enjoyed this movie, it is mostly thanks to the cast. However, this is a movie assumes that the audience knows and cares about actors, directors, Hollywood, and the movie business. I am not a movie buff or celebrity fan, so I couldn't share in the nostalgia, missed the hidden references, and didn't feel any excitement at the depiction of past celebrities. I think if this were a true masterpiece, this movie would grasp the attention of any audience and make anyone care about the characters.
Ma Loute (2016)
Certainly bizzarre but not very creative
Everything in this movie is bizarre: the story, the acting, even the voice of the actors. In itself, weirdness is not necessarily bad; Tati, Monthy Python or Jeunet have made great weird movies. However, Slack Bay lacks the necessary dose of creativity to make weirdness interesting. Too often it feels like what happens on the screen is odd just for the sake of being bizarre or that the actors are improvising without inspiration.
La Mante (2017)
How to turn a good concept and excellent acting into a bad screenplay.
The scenario is unbelievable, in particular the incompetence of the French police as depicted. Throughout the series the police acts in the most unprofessional way. They spend lavishly to house a convict in a castle, they let someone with close personal ties to the events lead the enquiry, hide key information for the investigating team, jump in the line of fire, show themselves incapable of rounding up a killer running on high heels, chitchat endlessly instead of organizing a pursuit, never think of tracing the cellphone of a suspect, ... In comparison Inspector Clouseau and the Gendarmes de St Tropez look like geniuses !
Dix pour cent (2015)
Very funny but very French
This series is incredibly funny; but it isn't an American joke machine or a zany British farce, it's French humor. That means the humor is very basic but the scenes are shot with a kind of cinema verité look and feel. It is also great for once to see the movie industry and its stars step down from their use self-aggrandizing and pompous attitude.
Murder on the Orient Express (2017)
Overuse of use of visual effect detracts from characters
The visual atmosphere of the movie feels too artificial. It prevents from believing in the story ang becoming interested in the characters. There is too much CGI, too frequent use of dramatic camera angles and the rapid editing gives the feel of a run-of-the-mill action movie. On the other hand, the acting is great; and the final scenes a much better because the directors give more space to the actors and their character.
