Father Christmas Is Back (2021)
Literally the worst film I've ever seen
Ever.
Apparently I need to write at least 150 characters to submit this review - the only words that spring to mind
Awful
Terrible
Bad
Really bad
Really really bad.
Worzel Gummidge (2019)
Beautifully updated, with stunning cinematography hy
Just watched the first episode, a gentle, funny and engaging adaptation.
Mackenzie Crook has captured the essence of Worzel perfectly, a kindly but scatty scarecrow, looking after the balance of nature.
The CGI effects are cleverly done, really bringing alive the illusion of the scarecrow.
The only problem - it's really made me wish for summer in the English countryside again!
In the Long Run (2017)
A gentle gem of a show
What a charming, funny, well written comedy. Such a blast from the past, can't believe I've only just discovered this show.
Thoroughly enjoyable
Unbelievable (2019)
A brilliant piece of film making
Highly recommend this series, such a cleverly crafted piece. Sat down to watch an episode, binge watched the series in a day. Compelling procedural show.
The comparison between the detectives approach was masterful. Understated yet powerful.
One of the best series I've watched
Batwoman (2019)
First openly gay superhero, I really, really wanted to like this ...
But it is literally the worst programme I've ever watched (and I'm renown amongst my friends for watching rubbish and enjoying it)
Weak, stereotypical, unlikable characters, poor plot, direction, casting, atrocious acting ... the only reason I gave the series a 2 instead of a 1 was for the cinematography.
Honestly, this could have been amazing. Should have been amazing. Such a waste.
Carnival Row (2019)
I really wanted to like this...
But it just fell short. Two dimensional characters that were just too difficult to like, or even empathise with. The female characters were your bog standard, weak, pithy characters masquerading as strong woman.
It just didn't know what it wanted to be - it touched on the plight of immigrants being owned by the gangs who helped them escape, forced Labour to pay off their debts, then glamourised the brothels.
Seemed to me that Amazon wanted to cash in on the end of Game of Thrones, without a decent plot or depth of character, resulting in a shallow, commercial show.
They would have been better off dramatising one of the many, many brilliant urban fantasy books already out there.
Really disappointing, could have been tremendous. Guess I'll just have to wait for the upcoming The Golden Compass for some decent urban fantasy
