Laughed Until I Couldn't...Then Cried...
25 February 2020
No spoilers here. This is one incredibly hilarious movie, that also tugs at the heartstrings. You can read the synopsis and figure out what the movie is about, however I had no idea how deep it would go. I felt this movie. The ratings here are spot on. The actors, which I was familiar with half of them, really brought it, and I am all for movies with actors doing their all to get another job. From the opening scene I was hooked! The story moves along with little down time. I had no idea what would happen, but turns out this was based on a book, which was based on a guy on a mission. I don't recommend many movies, but Come As You Are is a winner in my book. One of the best movies I have seen in a long time.

This is the Cat's Meow
21 December 2019
Ignore the bad ratings. There is nothing like a remake of the original Cat's, which debuted in New York in 1954. I think this one compares to anything Scorcese has done and forget, just for a minute, where this movie will be in 100 years. I am sure that there will be many many sequels spawned and since a 2.7 isn't a zero rating? Give it a try. The moment I sat down in the theater, with plenty of room to move around, I was entranced by the overall experience. I didn't pay enough to see this masterpiece! I want to thank the director and actors for delivering the one-two punch of an Oscar-worthy picture that you won't soon forget. Cats gets a 10/10 from this cat.

Ignore the Bad Reviews
9 December 2019
Ad Astra is a really good movie. It's a really good movie because Brad Pitt is in it. It's a really good movie because TLJ is in it. It's a really good movie because the director takes the time to put us right there in space. It's a really good movie because it's more than an action flick: it's a movie about a guy who faces a dilemma. It's a father/son movie. It's more than a space movie. The movie moves at a great pace and the plot is evident. Ignore those who trashed the movie. They were looking for something else, like an Ocean's 11 or a Thelma and Louise. I have been watching movies forever. Ad Astra is a really good watch. You have to read between the lines...watch Brad's mannerisms...listen to him... Clearly those who trashed this movie don't have those abilities. But 'tis the nature of today's generation. 10/10

Mind Blowing
24 February 2019
Hearing the positive reviews for this latest installment of the Spidey series, I went out on a limb and watched it when it came up on my satellite channel. This movie rocks. Plain and simple. I have never seen animation like this before ever. Clearly the people behind this amazing movie are geniuses. Before the movie even starts we are introduced to the characters and get to know their story. How many movies with real characters fail to do this? A LOT! The movie hums along like a fine-tuned sports car and after some sequences I had to pick my jaw off the floor. What an incredible movie and why it's not up for best picture is beyond words. The sheer amount of people involved (ending credits) clearly shows this movie was made with love and Stan (not sure if he saw it before he passed) would be super proud. 2 hours of mayhem I will gladly repeat soon.

What Men Want (2019)

Oscar Contender
15 February 2019
After hearing that Medea's Halloween Extravaganza was getting a sequel, "What Men Want," I was so excited I went online to buy a whole row of seats in anticipation. Boy was I not disappointed. The movie hums along like a fine-tuned sports car, has more romance than Titanic, and throws some action in ala The Lethal Weapon trilogy. I am floored that Tracy has recovered enough from his Walmart truck accident to make a stunning comeback on the big screen. After the opening credits rolled, my whole row, including me, was in an uproar for the 97 pulse-pounding minutes. Popcorn everywhere, it looked like the bar scene from Gremlins. I highly recommend What Men Want to your neighbors. When this goes directly to DVD, don't be hanging around that Red Box folks and think about renting my favorite movie.

Put Your Seatbelt On
13 January 2019
Just watched this gem last night and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I laughed throughout the movie. Viggo and Mahershala provide them in this wonderful movie based on the true life of Tony Vallelonga and Dr. Don Shirley. I wasn't sure what all the hype was about, but I gave it a try and I was absolutely mesmerized by both characters and the way they interacted. Both play off each other brilliantly and again I laughed out loud several times. Viggo should win the Oscar, but wouldn't you know it Mr. Bale is standing in his way. The movie hums along at a nice pace and I couldn't wait for the next scene to unfold. Director Farrelly does it again, this time with two of the most brilliant actors of our time. Green Book is a winner in my book.

A Hidden Gem
4 January 2019
I was filtering through the thousands of movies to watch between my satellite and Netflix subscriptions, and come across this little gem of a movie. Once reading the rating and oh goody Jake Gyllenhaal is in it...this was a no brainer. Jake and Casey were amazing as always, but it's Ed Oxenbould (Joe) who steals this show. Without giving away any plot points, this young man absolutely carries this picture with not only his words, but his facial expressions. Director Dano makes sure that with every action between Jake and Carey, there is an equally profound reaction from Joe. Mr. Dano takes us for a rocky journey through the lens of Joe and it's not pretty, but one you will remember.

Entertaining but Missing Something
16 December 2018
Hello- Watched WBR last night because I love Matthew M in anything he does. I did read the reviews and have to agree with the middle of the pack here: the movie is entertaining, but the plot goes from side to side which makes for an unpleasant watch. Did it leave a mark in the annals of movies that I have seen? Yes, but only because it's based on a true story. All the actors pour it on but the acting isn't enough to save this movie from being really great. WBR is a good movie and the ending is satisfying, but for two hours it's a mishmash of story lines. I do recommend watching MM in a supporting role here, but don't get too excited.

The best Dark Comedy Since A Fish Called Wanda
9 December 2018
Watched this last night and I knew I had to get up early today and write a review. What a movie! A Simple Favor turns out to be anything but. Anna and Blake (both are amazing) are the stars of this fantastic dark comedy, but what really makes this one shine are the supporting cast members also contribute some really solid performances. Like a fine-tuned sports car, the movie hums along at a frenetic pace and never lets the viewer go. The problem with some movies is they try too hard to be funny, only to let us down near the end when the plot falls apart, or the movie gets too mushy. Glad to say none of this happens to A Simple Favor, as there are a lot of laugh out loud moments that parallel a truly genuine drama! More plot twists and turns than anything I have ever seen, all the way to the end credits. I hope the Oscar judges watch this one, it's a piece of dynamite.

A Raw Look into Stardom
18 November 2018
Well, since stealing a satellite feed, I am able to watch movies that are in between the theaters and DVD outlets. Looking at all the ratings for this movie, I tried it on for a spin. The movie doesn't disappoint. Cooper and Gaga really bring their characters out to the front and allow us into their world. The movie hums along well, with supporting cast members doing their jobs. It's a simple enough plot, but Gaga's and Cooper's performance will really stand with you for awhile, as they are that good. If you are looking for a feelgood story? Look elsewhere because this one's a real corker and will leave your head spinning. Great movie, check it out if only for possible Oscar-worthy performances.

You Know It's All about the Chase, 'bout the Chase, No Trouble
28 July 2018
Really? I just watched MI-F and was totally floored that one man, the one and only Mr. Tom Cruise, at 56 years young, can carry a movie. He is a gem and say what you want about his personal life, but the guy is a STUD. I am hopeful younger actors are taking note of how the guy does his own stunts, act like there's no tomorrow, and makes us believe in movies again. Hollywood has finally made a movie worth seeing in the theater this summer. I really enjoyed the movie and I was lucky to watch it on an 80 foot screen with reclining seats. I can't find any flaws in the movie, however the plot is a bit complex and if you aren't paying attention, might miss something. I missed Jeremy Renner's character, but Simon Pegg is his usual self and Mr. Rhames is terrific. Do yourself a favor and watch it on the big screen, as a television won't do it justice.

Best Movie Since 13 Days
7 July 2018
When I heard the movie was headed to my local theater, I grabbed as many popcorn boxes I could and stood in line to buy my ticket. From the opening credits to the ending, I was at the edge of my seat and couldn't believe I was watching a movie that had so much depth and soul. The First Purge is an amazing film which depicts a realistic view in some circles of society today. I was deeply moved and had to go buy three more tickets for the next screening. I am going to watch this movie again and again until the IMDB rating gets to at least the 13 Days 4.5. Go see this movie and rate it high, you won't be disappointed.

Tense Drama
28 January 2018
Watched this movie after one of my favorite movie reviewers remarked that it was one of the best he watched last year. I gave it a try and my goodness what a tense movie this was. I know a movie will be good when I can't recall where I have seen any actor or actress. I believe when a movie houses less well-known actors the movie seems to be that much more entertaining because they are giving their best. The plot is simple to follow and the director does a wonderful job letting you know something is about to go down but when it does it goes with a bang. I loved the movie and you could do a lot worse when looking for a well-directed and well-acted thriller. Super Dark Times indeed.

Tonya, we owe you an apology
20 January 2018
Besides being a really good movie, meaning the acting was strong, the plot moves to a kicking soundtrack and I laughed out loud, I was genuinely surprised to learn the heartache that Tonya Harding had to endure growing up. "I Tonya" is a great depiction of a woman who, unbeknownst to America, didn't have the "typical" life of what we all think is the clean, happy life of an Olympic skater. Why? Our beloved media of course! Look at all of our skating representatives: oh so pretty and so innocent! So says the media. When the "incident" happened back in the early 90's, us onlookers of course, well, looked. We didn't have the internet back then, which clearly sets this story apart than other true stories. We didn't have Nancy Kerrigan or anyone else tweeting 24/7. We had "Hard Copy." Oh wait...we had the major networks too! They controlled the narrative and my goodness did they dig for dirt at every turn. We relied on their stories to frame our perspective. Why was Tonya vilified? Was this the start of our tabloid television? Why yes...if you look closely at the television set near the end...there is a peculiar figure on it... These issues are at the heart of "I Tonya" and are relevant. I owe Tonya a huge apology...I had no idea Mrs. Harding. I hope the rest of your life is a happy one and I will forgive you if you want to give us all the bird. P.S. Hand the Best Actress Award to Ms. Janney...hands down the best character she has ever played. Hats off to Margot too!

Best Movie Since Just Ending
10 December 2017
Ignore the critics and user posts. This is the only one you need. After the world premiere in Stockholm, Finland, I was enthralled by the movie's opening credits. After that, I had to ask the theater to pause the movie so I could go get more popcorn. After returning to my front row seat, I sat and was entertained to the max for the duration of the film. I thought I was watching Shawshank and Goodfellas all in one. Tom Jones was amazing, Morgan was exceptional as the Visa guy, and the story unfolded like a John LeCarre thriller. I encourage anyone who is a major movie watcher to run down to your local theater house and plop your hard-earned money down for this incredible feature film.

Best Movie Since "Daddy's Home 1"
2 December 2017
Believe it or not, this movie was absolutely brilliant on many levels. First, after sitting outside at my local theater for 3 weeks prior to the premiere, people thought I was insane, but when the day came for tickets to go on sale? Oh yeah, front of the line for me! I got prime seats and after my popcorn and diet Mountain Dew (Large) cup in hand? I went into a frenzy to see my favorite movie stars on the big screen all at once. It was Boogie Nights meets Braveheart. This movie rocked! I have petitioned the studio to keep this franchise alive, as this fan will be watching closely to see where Big Daddy 3 will arrive. After the movie I was so enthralled I ran into a tree.

Mindhunter (2017–2019)

Can't Watch Just One Episode
22 November 2017
Mindhunter is a 10 episode series on N'flix that hits a home run with me. First of all, David Fincher can do no wrong in my eyes, blending trance-like music with scenes that are unforgettable. He does this a few times and my goodness he's the master at it. Every scene, every line...well-constructed and nothing wasted.

Mindhunter gets into your head very quickly and not only for the content, but for the era it is held in. If you weren't born in the 70's, that's OK because the producers here have done a masterful job in recreating America in that decade. I honestly don't know how they did it scene after scene.

Mindhunter is a series where each character leaves an indelible mark on your psyche. The content is deep and makes you wonder. Don't forget to hug mom. I give it a 10 on the "bingeable" meter.

Mudbound (2017)

Slow Burner For a Reason
19 November 2017
Just watched Mudbound last night and I have to say it is a really good movie if you enjoy character development before plot development. In addition, it's always a good idea if directors take the time to dumb movies down for our UK viewers (see above) but us real movie watchers have to suffer. The director here does this masterfully, but unfortunately our UK watcher missed the point of this gem, so please ignore that ridiculous review.

During the movie I found myself on IMDb, looking up the characters and had plenty of "where have I seen this person before?" moments.

The movie is a slow burn...just like Mississippi...nobody in a hurry to do anything, anywhere, anytime.

Movies with character actors in the lead are always, always going to give you more bang for their buck, because they act their butts off!

Rural Mississippi surely is a place I won't be visiting soon. It looks like time stopped down there.

Could it be this movie was filmed this year? The way we treat(ed) people of color is truly horrifying.

Watch Mr. Banks for an unreal performance as the racist father. Thumbs up to Mudbound.

Greatest Movie Since Deer Hunter
9 November 2017
Beingst that it's nearby Veddies day, let's round up the chillen in tell youst about a great flick called "Thank You For Your Service." First of all, this isn't about war at all. It's about two dudes playing "war" in their backyard. The opening credits reel you in from the start and from there? All Patriotism at its finest for the next 3 hours. I mean from the Stripes and Stars, to Parades, to Military discounts at the Golden Corral, nothing, I mean nothing gets me more riled up at being patriotic than a movie about war! War! After seeing this 33 times, I am ready to take the fight to the enemy. Who's out there ready to join me?

Best Movie Since Halloween
21 October 2017
(sent from my Iphone3) Good day Madea fans! I am writing this review from my seat in the theater, having just watched BOO2 3 times. Let me say this, this movie is a keeper! Don't let those snoozy reviews throw you off! You have to see this movie! From the opening credits to the last sound, this movie will keep you on edge. That Madea cat is something else and I have to say, my BOO2 Tshirt, just ordered from Amazoon.com, is inbound as of yesterday! OK, back to the movie. BOO2 will keep you "howling" throughout, and if you are looking to be tricked? Have no "fear" as this movie is a treat! Get your popcorn, treat it with some hot saux, and sit back and relax. You will not be disappointed. BOO2 is not a "Boo Hoo."

Mr. Nolan? Thank You!
7 August 2017
Dunkirk. I have never heard of the events of those fateful days during WWII. Thank you Mr. Nolan for bringing this incredible human story to life. And you pulled it off by peeling back the fluff most movies have nowadays to keep us focused. No obvious special effects (if there were, I didn't catch them), no over-the-top explosions or a silly love story to pull our heart strings. No, you managed to keep me enthralled for 106 minutes by keeping things simple, and transporting me to the Port of Dunkirk. In your typical style, you did get me to the edge of my seat. I genuinely, on an emotional level, felt what our protagonists were going through. I was cold, thirsty and feared for my life every time I heard those engines. Thank you Mr. Nolan, for showing me that heroes have always existed, there is hope for humanity, and good will always conquer evil.

Better Than Star Wars Part IV
29 July 2017
Please don't listen or watch or read the reviews for this incredible movie. I guarantee these folks didn't see the movie, they are just upset it was an amazing experience, like the one I had. For weeks, I have been awaiting this gem to arrive at my local theater house. For weeks I have been ranting and raving and just having pure excitement knowing my girl Sophia will be co-starring. The movie is well directed and the score goes right to the heart of my soul. I loved how the movie had credits at the beginning and end. I enjoyed the message and I wasn't let down. I stayed in the theater for 3 consecutive showings until I was removed by the usher. I highly recommend this movie be a part of your legacy.

Could Have Been Better
16 July 2017
Watched "Passengers" last night and well, I give it a 6 out of 10. The premise is easy enough and the visuals and the acting is spot on. However, the storyline lacks depth. Without give anything away, the story had the potential to really dig into our humanity, and the choices we make and why, but it wasn't to be. To be clear, the movie does make you think a little about love and what we would do for it, but dang if the director left me hanging with a "huh?" I was into the movie and you will be also...I am on the fence with this review...I can't give it my highest praise and will not bash it, but it's one of those movies that could have been amazing, if only the people in charge would have dug deeper into us.

Best Movie Since "It's a Wonderful Life"
15 July 2017
Before you read this entry, mind you I have watched over 100 movies and by far and wide, this is the greatest movie I have ever seen during the Halloween holidays. First of all, Beethoven is an adorable puppy who brings inner joy to your hearts when on screen. I feel Hollywood loves to trash movies like this because there is no action, but I digress...this movie has a ton of action, drama, and most of all, the spirit of the Hallows. I recommend anyone who is feeling down to cheer themselves up and watch this movie. I watched it over and over and over and forgot to eat! This movie has more heart than Titanic, more action than Sophie's Choice, and more drama than Stripes. Run out and rent/buy this classic...you won't be unhappy.

Wish Upon (2017)

Thriller Beyond Words
14 July 2017
I waited for months to watch the sequel to 13 Hours, and it finally arrived in my local theater last night. Wish Upon, the movie, is a fantastic take on everything horror. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time the trailers were playing. After the opening credits rolled, I was in complete denial I was watching a classic horror movie, a la Freddy Kruger and Jason. Wish Upon has highs and lows, but mostly highs. I spilled my popcorn several times when watching because of the sheer terror the director laid onto us. When Wish Upon 2 comes out in three years, you can bet I will be there, big popcorn in hand. Wish Upon is a movie you will never forget, and you will wish upon a star the movie isn't available on DVD tomorrow.
