The Menu (2022)
What is art?
This movie explores the theme of art beautifully, it raises a very important question, what is art?, is it the mastery of your craft, honing in your abilities to its peak, towering above the rest with your skills. But what use are these abilities if they go unappreciated or even yet you don't love the craft, Slowik personifies this perfectly, a chef so revered by his pears, his culinary skills are unmatched. But now his talents are wasted on the elite rich who use his art as a showcase of wealth, his art goes unnoticed so he loses his love for it, so if something magnificent is unnoticed is it even art, I believe this moral conflict is displayed perfectly here, one critique I would have with the film is the message gets pretty preachy and worn out near the end with the old rich people are bad cliche, but other than that the movie is an amazing thriller with good suspenseful moments and a use of dark comedy that made me laugh on a number of occasions, a must watch if you ask me.
Pinocchio (2022)
Yet another Disney remake
One of the cheapest laziest films I've watched, this is the Disneys worst effort to try and remake their classic movies, I mean at least with the other projects their was some attempt made, but here it's just the text book definition of a cash grab, adding plot points that go absolutely nowhere and removing parts that they deemed "unnecessary", the performances in this film were abysmal, this film was a low point in Tom hanks career is performance as Geppeto was awful with his accent changing with each scene, they tried desperately to add depth to the characters of this film but were to lazy to go all the way, so the new plot points added feel half backed at best and a waste of time at worst, god awful movie that craps all over the legacy of the original.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022)
Breaking cliches yet again
Rian Johnson has done it again this is one of the best murder mystery films out to screen, excellently crafted with a twist which while hilarious caught me off guard completely, Daniel Craig is just an incredible actor, his performance as blanc is immensely entertaining, he is my favorite on screen detective to appear on screen, the movie just like it's predecessor breaks down the murder mystery genre while staying faithful to the films that came before it's an homage to those earlier films in the genre while breaking down the cliches that have plagued the genre for a few years now, this is what a modern murder mystery looks like, miles above murder on the orient express and murder on the Nile which is full of said Cliches, Glads onion is a must watch.
Better Call Saul (2015)
Doing more with less
This is without a doubt one of the greatest shows on tv to date, at no point does this prequel series ever feel forced, it is a worthy addition to the universe of breaking bad, expanding on beloved characters from breaking bad like Mike and Gus, While also adding new characters who have become a great addition to this storyline, this show is a master of detail, each camera angle, each scene, each action feels important to the narrative and I love the way the less blunt approach to the shows storytelling made the more graphic scenes stick with me more, the show is a lot slower than it's predecessor breaking bad, but believe me no part of this is boring, vince giligan and Peter Gould are nothing short of geniuses, I am in love with this world they have created and now that this story has concluded I'm excited to see what they have planned for the future.
