Laapataa Ladies (2023)
Very very heart touching. The best movie of 2024
Firstly a huge standing ovation for this masterpiece by Kiran Rao. Made me so emotional and cry by the end of it. Unlike the rigged reviews of bogus movies like Tiger and Fighter, this one is pure natural magic and deserves all the accolades coming it's way. They have shown the reality of our times and woven human subtleties. So beautiful and truly heart touching. Absolutely loved it. No nudity, no vulgar dialogues. No starry action. This is a proper family entertainer. Aamir Khan is always known for quality cinema and it is amazing how his wife also loves up the lofty standards set by her ex husband who happens to be the Co producer. Even without the usual bells and whistles, this movie is so engaging. Those with a pure heart and joy for realism in cinema will love this gem. Give this emotional story a family watch. You won't regret your decision. God bless the makers. Too good. Leaves a lasting impact on viewers, much after the ending.
Fuh se Fantasy: Dangerous Affair (2023)
Surprised to see Jiocinema rigging reviews in this average serieses
Murder mysteries have always made for interesting plotlines. However, this one is good but not great. The impression I have got of this web series is that they have got a paid agency to write reviews for them. All the episodes I have watched in season 3 seem to be targeted at Gen Z who may not have got wide exposure to more sophisticatedly made murder mysteries. The premise of the plot is interesting and the climax is good. But it can't be said that the episode gives the viewer a wow feeling after completing it. The intimacy is good. But I feel across the series, the directors and writers need to sit down and decide if they want more intimacy or more story. Thats because in trying to balance both, the final output is turning out to be in no man's land. Neither do the episodes qualify as intimate eroticas nor pure storylines. But this episode was better than other few ones for a low production budget series. Impact is also low if you are a discerning viewer.
Fuh se Fantasy: Fantasy Unleashed! (2023)
Good reviews are so uniform and manipulated
I watched this episode today on Jiocinema. The series is confused between erotica and sensuality, teenage romance and dance movies. The actors fail to give a true performance. The acting is below par. Even the kissing seems so forced and unnatural. The main lead (Sobhita) seems to be so uncomfortable in the kiss. Also, one can hardly feel anything for and with the characters. This is a hurriedly made shabby fantasy which has cast budding teenager actors who hardly are interested at any point in getting to the skin of the character. Superficial emotions and clichéd dialogues. Not sure if Gen Z likes this kind of sleaze in the name of fantasy. As a millennial I found it pure waste of time. Trailers and ratings are pretty misleading. Wasted my time.
Dunki (2023)
Overrated, underwhelming documentary
Too stretched and overdone acting performances. Not entertaining. It is a documentary more than entertainment. Animal was better than this. It is purely running on SRK PR and fan clubs. As a neutral person I did not like it at all. It seems that SRK is hell bent on varnishing his soiled image in pandemic. He is becoming too desperate to showcase how patriotic he is. So many moments in all his previous three films including this one contain scenes which are showing him from a hallowed lens. Not exactly praiseworthy. Hes blowing his own trumpet. And Tapsee SRK pairing is odd. SRK will be father of Tapsee.
Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (2023)
Wholesome entertainment, clean famlly watch
Absolutely amazing movie. Very cute, very sweet. And it does evoke emotions all through - laughter, fun and tears. Performances are excellent. Low budget and high performance. A must watch as a family entertainer. Much much better than the filthy Rocky aur Rani. The movie has a fresh and lively soundtrack that complements the mood and theme of the story. The songs are catchy and melodious, and the lyrics are witty and meaningful. The movie also has a subtle message about giving more primacy to relationships than material objects, prioritizing family and upholding honest principles and doing the right things in life. No sexual references or scenes. A movie you can freely watch with your parents or children.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023)
Preachy social commentary masquerading as a commercial film
Karan Johar has his opinions. But why does he want to break the Indian family system with this sort of content? Why does he want to challenge time tested ideals and social moores? While the movie is funny in phases, the preachy nature of discourse takes away from entertainment factor. In the name of peddling progressive ideals, the movie encourages chest thumping regressive feminism. It will also give support to lazy women who don't want to do duties in the name of equality.
The movie uses references from popular past films. Doesn't have anything original to offer. The kiss between Dharmendra and Shabana is very objectionable. Let veterans lead their respectful lives. Bringing perversion to them too.
Ranveer and Alia are good but in patches. Don't understand why Alia keeps wearing backless blouses even in freezing cold weather.
Pathaan (2023)
Commercial of the most commercial defying common sense
First things first, suspend your sense of disbelief before you sit to watch this film. Some super creative liberties have been taken to salvage SRK's flagging career. His fan armies may be making a lot of noise around the movie but as a neutral viewer, I found this movie to be just run of the mill heroism cut from the same cloth as Salman Khan's chest thumping macho cinema as seen in the likes of Ek Tha Tiger or Tiger Zinda Hai. Logic is out. It's just visual appeal, bravado laden dialogues and other such massy elements. The hype and hoopla surrounding the movie betrayed the real deal. The movie is all style and totally lacking substance. Beyond a point, such cinema begins to cause heartache. All said and done, the movie does have its high points such as Salman Khan's Tiger character integrations, Ashutosh Rana's acting and John Abraham's svelte looks. Besides that the VFX is low brow, masculinity overboard and a supremely weak storyline and weak writing. It can be watched once on OTT. Not worth the ticket price.
Dharavi Bank (2022)
Delight for lovers of Anna, action & Bollywood masala
Firstly those rating it so lowly may not have watched the entire season. So they are bogus reviews. I binge watched all 10 episodes just now and absolutely loved Vivek Oberoi's acting, Sunil Shetty's performance, non stop action, excellent camera work and brilliant acting by the entire star cast. The background score and the overall cinematography keep you hooked to the narrative. Each character is shown to be justified in its doing and suffering. The show keeps you hooked throughout it's runtime. Very engaging plot. There's a sequel also coming next year. Can't wait for it. The only drawback, it is typical Bollywood action masala with nothing new to offer.
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022)
Great family watch in theatre
BRAHMASTRA: Part 1 - Shiva
Scintillating. Riveting. Pulsating. Every frame is a canvas, every move is a carefully crafted VFX piece.
It is no coincidence that in the 75th year of India's independence, the country's biggest entertainment industry has come up with a rich offering, a family watch which can give the best of Hollywood a run for their money in terms of special effects, VFX and background score. When India's posterity looks back, Brahmastra trilogy (two films in this series to roll out in next 2 years) is sure to go down as the jewel in the cinematic crown which broke the glass ceiling in Indian motion pictures and graphics. After the battering by boycott brigade, poor scripts, rise of OTT and a string of boring narratives at the movies (only 4 major hits out of 26 Bollywood releases this year), here is a gem replete with tentpole content, recall worthy music, romance with a dash of comedy and not to mention super slick stylized action synergized with high octane CGI supports, which also happens to be the biggest highlight of the film. That the team working on the visuals and sound mix was also a part of the globally acclaimed Avatar (the part 2 of which is slated for December 22) says a lot about this flick's production quality. Watch it as a proud Indian and tell yourself India and Indians are reaching there at the pinnacle. Kudos to a new notch up to Indian cinema with eagerly anticipation of next 2 iterations in the all new Indian Astraverse franchise.
