Internal Affairs (1990)
I am now on a quest to find Richard Gere movies that break type
There is a great movie in here somewhere, but the writing probably needed another draft or two. There are some great scenes, but the rest are forgettable.
The movie has a great cast, but a weak script. The leads have good chemistry, which unfortunately doesn't serve to push the movie along for two hours. Some few scenes are powerful, but most scenes go on for too long with unpolished dialogue.
I'm impressed with Richard Gere's range, though. He plays the role of the villain like it's all he ever did his entire career. I love it. So one positive takeaway from this movie, is that I am on a quest to find more movies where he plains the villain.
Helved (2019)
More weird than funny, but very funny
It doesn't quite go where one expects. Without spoiling anything, whether this is a good twist, depends on how weird and absurd you like your comedy. If you don't already know the people behind this, and aren't familiar with this sort of humor, you might find yourself bored. The main attraction is the portrayal of the painfully dull hamsterwheel of being trapped in the ordinary, with a life and a family you can't stand, in a house you're sick of, in a town you can't wait to leave. It gets more weird than funny, and don't expect some profound morality tale buried here.
Myself, I was crying with laughter a few times during some of the episodes, and found myself grinning over Helved's ending several days after. These guys' sense of humor is wonderfully demented.
Vlad (2003)
Worst. Movie. Ever.
Horrible acting, no plot, and a woman who mysteriously travels in time for no reason whatsoever. Vlad doesn't have the dark, alluring charm that vampires are supposed to have, but instead wears a stressed maniacal gaze akin to that of a man having painful explosive diarrhea. Especially in the sex scenes, where he looks like he's about to spontaneously combust out of frustration of his ineptitude as a frightening vampire shrouded in torture and suffering.
But the special effect were great though. Oh wait, there were none other than the part where he climbs a wall (is pulled up the wall in a rope, on fast forward).
