Fantastic Four (2005)
For sure one of the worst movies ever...
This movie hasn't got one single good thing going for it. Not one.
It's bad from the start and the total lack of story in this one is amazing. Even Argmageddon is better than this one, and that says a lot! I almost stopped the film when i watched it but since it's fairly short me and my brother spent the last part, laughing through it.
The worst thing about this movie though, is that Chiklis stars in it. To have gone from a truly fantastic series like "the Shield" to do this...talk about bad judgment. One can just hope that this (and also Fantastic 4, number 2) was a temporary dip to get into the movie industry. Lets hope Chiklis instead goes into some serious film-making, which I think he would do excellent.
The Straight Story (1999)
A wonderful movie that is sincere and very touching.
I saw this move for the first time, when it was aired on TV, and from the first moment, I got that, "emotional" feeling for the movie. It had that feeling of...honesty, simplicity and I could tell right away, that this was a great movie, and it was (and is) too.
There are a certain drama movies that succeeds in establishing that..... slow and very touching emotion throughout the movie. This one has it. Dont misunderstand me; it is not a sentimental movie as we are used to in Hollywood, but a really sincere and serious one.
The performance from Richard Farnsworth is absolutely great! Restrained, as it should be, but he does so much with so little. He doesnt need to put so many words in it, it comes out great anyway. It's really skillful acting.
Despite of what some may think about the "shots of grain being harvested are repeated a little too much", I think that those images only strengthens the atmosphere in the movie. It gives a the movie a slow pace (which is good and also the point) and it is accompanied by great music, which alltogether creates that sad and touching feeling. And old man, whos health is failing, taking a last trip (that's the feeling i get), to redeem his mistakes in the past.
I feel that the movie is about regret and aging. I can't really put to splendor of this movie into words. Even though I like David Lynch's movie, like mulholland Dr and Lost Highway, I think I consider "The Straight Story" to be his best work. It's nothing but great.
My advice is, that if you haven't seen this movie, to do that ASAP. Hopefully you will also see the greatness of this splendid movie! Enjoy.
SubUrbia (1996)
A great great drama movie!
I actually saw this on on Tv just now (15 mins ago) and I got really impressed! I was stunned by this one!
This movie is based on the conversation and dynamic between the characters. It is almost only conversation and it is so beautifully done. A great script and dialogue and great directing. The director really got a great "atmosphere" and feeling into this movie. It is a serious and intelligent drama that really got me thinking.
It really sent the message of isolation, and the longing to get away from the "dead" suburb. With little means they create a tense and interesting dynamic and overall a intersting film, from the beginning to the end. The acting is great form all involved.
I really cant explain it all in words, but I definetly would recommend this one! Go see it and as long as you have a somewhat developed taste in movies (not the average "Armageddon lovers" that is) you will probably like, if not love, this one!
In the Company of Men (1997)
A different but truly good movie
This great movie is very different from most other movies.
An intelligent but also raw movie in the sence that it is cruel on a psychological level. The characters plays with emotions from a vulnerable person.
It's a great dark comedy, a very interesting one. The ending is very powerful, a really good scene.
For any movielover i truly recommend this great movie!
Life (1999)
A very good movie, funny but also sad.
I hadn't really heard much about this movie when I saw it but I was very surprised with how good this movie is.
Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence is really good in this one.
The movie is very funny, made me laugh a great deal. But at the same time it doesn't get out of hand. It doesn't turn into a sleazy sentimental comedy like the usual Hollywood trash. Instead it has a serious angle. It is comical, but at the same time tragic. They portray their despair in a brilliant way, and the mix of comedy and tragedy works really well.
Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence uses raw language but it works really well. A lot of Eddie's stand-up comedy reflects in this movie, but he's great.
It isn't the usual movie-flick. it isnt as "light" or easy to watch as the normal movies, because of the serious elements in it.
It's a truly great comedy and the best performance from Eddie Murphy in a long time. This i definitely something to watch!!
Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (1990)
A truly great and intelligent movie!
Gary Oldman and Tim Roth, two great actors, are great in this funny, interesting and very intelligent movie.
It's about Rosencrantz and Guildenstern who are traveling around in a bizarre world, full of mysteries and mind-bending unrealities, all while their philosophical discussions about different scientifical issues continues.
It's a great script, great performances and a dazzling movie that any developed movie-mind has to like!
It's hard to describe this masterpiece so I have one advice for you and that is to go see it!
Breakfast of Champions (1999)
An unusual, tragic-comic movie that leaves you thinking!
This is a very different movie. Its about a successful carseller somewhere in the US. A carseller that is going mad and is very depressed. He doesnt know what it's all about. He seems tired of the way his life is. Bruce Willis makes and extremely good performance in this role.
As an employee, we have Nick Nolte. A very comical character, who always sucks up to the boss (Bruce Willis). He's desperate to hide something from him, and that's seems to be the only thing he thinks of. Nolte is very very funny in this role.
Then we have Albert Finney, who also makes a strong effort here. He plays the cynical and depressed author, who for once in his life gets attention.
It's a very strong movie, with great actors and the perfect, sad music to accompany it all. It's very touching and filosophical. The ending is wonderful! I cant really explain it all in words...I have only one thing to say to you: GO SEE THIS MOVIE !!
Its truly great! I give it a 10!
Armageddon (1998)
A really, really bad movie...totally overvalued!
This movie generated a huge amount of money, and was a success, in terms of revenue income and audience...nothing else. The screenplay is one big kliché, where the special effects is the whole movie. Although the movie has some good actors(Bruce Willis, Steve Buscemi) it doesn't help this awful picture. You can't change a really bad idea with an really bad script. You could say that this movie is perfect for the "commoners", that is, for the majority of the viewers, who's knowledge of really good movies are nonexistent. The Hollywood mainstream productions suits these people perfect because the have no reference towards other, much much better movies.
This movie was actually so boring that I wanted to stop looking at it...I wasn't far from it. The reason why I didn't stop was that I wanted to have seen this movie in order to critizise it properly.
I'm actually irritated that anyone actually can like this movie. It worries me that such bad movies can be a success. It gives you an hint on how many people that aren't used of thinking.
