The Trap (1966)
Some Intense Moments, But No Save
I found this movie online and only watched because I love Oliver Reed. I'm sorry I watched it because I spent almost an hour and a half watching Reed terrorize everyone around him! He yelled, yanked, pushed and frightened that poor girl so much I got mad! However, I was very glad when she'd pull a knife or wielded other means that made him back up! Also, there was no chemistry between them. He was still handsome with his beard, but she was made to look too plain. Them trying to survive in the wilderness is what actually kept me watching because there were so many hardships and I was curious how things would turn out. It's not one I would recommend. It's just not good enough. The ending totally sucked! My mouth fell open and I think I said, "I don't believe it!" out loud! I don't know why they listed her as his wife when they never married! The clerk's wife sells her to Reed's character and he drags her off to his far away cabin! Didn't they frown upon shacking up back then?
Ultimate Justice (2017)
It's Not THAT Bad, But...
I saw this movie listed while looking for something else. I clicked on the trailer and the action had me hooked! These people are not great actors, but they sure make up for it with great fight scenes! Professional soldiers perform a rescue but lose team members and decide to quit. They're working regular jobs until something terrible happens to a member and their help is needed to get his little daughter back. Some of the dialogue is really cheesy and the voice over work is bad, but most of the action kept me watching! I've never seen some of their moves before! They were fantastic! Even though a bit of the action was cheesy, too, it was still a great action movie for me!
Cinderella (2000)
What Is This Slop?!
Having grown up in the 60's, I've seen many versions of Cinderella, but this is the worse. I wanted to give it one star but Kathleen Turner does evil so good and she's gorgeous! Too bad this movie went from strange to bizarre in seconds!
While Cinderella, whose real name is Zozella (Ugh!), is still mourning her mother, her father brings home a new wife and her daughters. The father does not die in this version, but he is being slowly poisoned by the stepmother. There were times that Cinderella stood up to her stepmother and even got slapped for it, but not much else impressed me.
The wicked stepsisters give off an incestuous vibe that I found creepy. They are jaded and severely spoiled. When they learn of Cinderella's innocence, they endeavor to remove it. Yuck! They never do, but yuck just the same!
The prince is bored with palace life and refuses to be manipulated by his mother to find a wife. All he wants to do is play his guitar, sing and hang out with his friends. When he sees Cinderella at the ball, he can't take his eyes off her. But she ignores him and dances with the rich, older guys her stepmother is interested in. She knows her stepmother is looking for a new, rich husband and this is the only way she can save her father.
Cinderella meets a dirty, unpleasant mermaid-like woman who tells her how to get a dress and the way into the castle for the ball. However, Cinderella has no shoes and can't get in. While sitting under a rose bush she tells it about having no shoes. Suddenly, petals fall on her feet and creates some of the ugliest shoes I've ever seen!
The ball is terrible. The music is, too. The movie doesn't know whether it is from the early 20th century or the mid 20th century. I was confused. Some of the clothes were great, esp. Cinderella's blue ball gown. The stepmother does have a cool 1950s convertible to ride to the ball in!
The movie has hit and misses. Mostly, the latter. I can't suggest watching this. I only watched it to the end because I was curious how it would turn out. Now I'm depressed that I did. I could have been doing laundry! LOL!
Concrete Canyons (2010)
Ugh!
Ok let me state that my rating was based on the summary alone. I wanted to watch this movie, so I went to the summary to learn more about it. But after getting a brain cramp from trying to read the summary, I realized that I couldn't understand what I was reading! I mean, was there no one who had the job of reading the summary to correct all the errors?!! I can understand a few typos, but this thing was totally jacked up! Sorry, guys, but I tried!!!
Charlie's Angels (2011)
Not As Bad As I Thought!
When this reboot of the 70's series was announced, I was not impressed. I mean who can replace Farrah?! She was so painfully beautiful that I felt there was no one who could match her! Although I enjoyed the 2000 movie, I had a problem with Cameron Diaz's hair. She was lovely enough, but what was up with the choppy haircut? I always hated that straight edge razor cut!
One day I was stuck at home searching for something good to watch on tv and going crazy when I came across the new Angels show. I decided to give it a try. I loved the edge these women and Bosley had! They did joke a little, but nothing like the campy, airhead way of the old show. I also loved their beauty and the cool clothes these women wore. And Bosley! OMG! I am so glad they totally made him over because he was a goof in the old show, a jerk (Bill Murray) in the first movie and cast completely wrong with Bernie Mac (Angels Full Throttle)! I love Mac, but what were they thinking?!
I was totally enjoying this new show until I noticed there was only one season! Oh, no! These women were beautiful but deadly. Bosley, too! They had dark, painful histories but did not let it stop them from helping others, even when their past reared its ugly head.
I did notice some flaws, like the way they would stop to pose and look at each other. I know this was made for tv where they do commercial pauses, but it was just happening way too much and got on my nerves! There were also weak points in some of the acting and fight scenes but not enough to cancel it! The stories were good and the suspense was great! I liked not knowing what would happen next! Too bad it was over too soon...*sigh...
Blonde and Blonder (2008)
Uh...Huh?!
Two complete idiots show up to train for their pilot's license (Oh, no!), but quickly get into all kinds of trouble. This is where the movie goes downhill! While watching, I kept thinking 'Why are these women running loose without medication and a guard?!' It's only because I like these two actresses that I decided to watch this. Actually, I'm appalled! I don't mind silly movies or funny movies, but this was a waste! I've seen these actresses in better comedic roles, so this makes me think if they had a better director and a better script maybe they could have pulled this off? I don't know. All I do know is that after watching this my brain became numb and number!! LOL.
Solomon and Sheba (1959)
Terrible!
The top stars could not save this stinker! I decided to watch it although I was reluctant because I like Yul Brynner bald. I always thought King Vidor was a great director (Ruby Gentry, Wizard of Oz). However, his skills were missing from this movie. George Sanders looked and acted out of place. Yul Brynner posed and scowled. Lollobrigida, although beautiful, threw tantrums and looked like she was trying too hard to be believable. Too many of the fight scenes sucked! Half the time I didn't know what was going on. Too bad the few good ones were the highlights of this movie! I didn't care about the creative license the movie took, but it could have at least been good!! Oh, man! It gave me such a brain cramp! LOL!
Diablo (2015)
Fine Acting, But Very Disappointing
I watched this for Scott Eastwood and because I loved his dad's westerns. After I stopped comparing Eastwood to his father, I was able to enjoy his performance. He was so good as the tortured ex-Civil War soldier whose wife was kidnapped. I was cheering him on as he doggedly pursued the kidnappers. However, some strange things started happening. The first was the dying Mexican on the hill who said Jackson (Eastwood) would get what he deserved. I never understood what he meant because Jackson hadn't kidnapped anyone's wife. When Jackson meets an Asian guy, this Ezra (Goggins) fellow suddenly appears and kills the Asian. For what?! Ezra is very strange and tends to pop up at these weird moments talking nonsense. By now, I'm very confused. The Native people Jackson meet call him a devil and want nothing to do with him. I thought it was because he was white, but they spoke of him like he was from another world or something. Very odd. When Jackson meets fellow ex-Civil War soldier, Carver (Glover), I'm ready to pull my hair out until Carver reveals some things that tells you that Jackson is not what he seems. Carver helps Jackson, but the next thing I see is Carver on his knees before Ezra who holds a gun to his head while Jackson just stands and watch! THEN, Jackson become Ezra and shoots Carver! I'm done! The action was great and the suspense was also until it became too absurd! Jackson finally finds his wife near a river, but she runs to her so called captors to get away from him! When Jackson follows them to a farm, he really starts acting and looking very creepy. It's revealed that Jackson had taken Alexandra from her Mexican husband who came with others to bring her home. It's also revealed that this was not the first time he had done this. The action was the best thing about the movie. It was very intense!
Black Widow (2008)
Not Totally Bad
I just finished watching Black Widow (2008) after reading some of the reviews. I tend to read a few reviews first to get a general idea about a movie to see if it is worth the watch, but this time, I had watched about 10 minutes before searching it out. I thought it would be worse than what it was based on the reviews I read. It is def. A made-for-tv movie, but I kept watching out of curiosity. The acting did not get cheesy until the pool scene at the end. Man, was it fake! I do not know what the big furor is about Elizabeth Berkley. I thought she did a pretty good job although some of her 'hang time' scenes should have been edited out. Too many times she and the others seemed to be waiting for the director to yell, "Cut". Berkley is so beautiful! It is obvious she has lost weight and it looks good on her! BTW, I never saw the 'goof' at the end. I watched this on Tubi. They must have edited the end or something. It won't win awards, but it kept me watching till the end. That's all I needed!
The Serpent (2020)
I Kept Thinking It Will Get Better, But...
When I read the info on this movie it sounded very interesting. I like movies with a strong female lead who can kick butt and was looking forward to watching it. But nothing could have prepared me for this mess! Honestly, I only kept watching to find out what the big mystery was! The poor lead had two expressions: her eyes got bigger and her lips pursed when she was shocked or upset. That was it! I thought it could have been so much better with a better script, director and lead actress. When I learned that the writer and director was Gia I saw what went wrong. The editing was also poor, but there is only so much a person can do with such a bad movie.
Viking Destiny (2018)
It Went From OK To A Pretty Good Action Movie
In spite of some poor acting and dialogue, this movie made up for it in intense fighting scenes! I thought it was going to be too stupid to watch, but as it developed it held my attention with some of the best action (and gore) I have ever seen! I loved the warrior princess so much that I had to research the actress on IMDB. She was as beautiful as she was dynamic! The movie is not for the weak hearted because men had their faces busted or sliced off in battles! Yikes! It will not win any awards, but it will keep you entertained for a little while!
No Time to Die (2021)
Some Great Action, But Still A Brain Cramp!
I love Bond! I have since the 70s! But this last one with Daniel Craig I had a hard time following! I never could figure out the creepy bad guy or how the transferrable poison operated. It was too long and it got too complicated for my old butt! I also couldn't figure out Nomi's purpose in the movie. If she's a 007 then I thought she would have more to do. I also didn't like the lighting on her. Being a dark skin Black (don't trip; I'm Black, too!), I felt the lighting was very poor on her. In the few glimpses I got, she seemed to be pretty, but too many times I could barely see her features! She was too dark to be in all those dark clothes with poor lighting! The cast was great and did their best, but I sat there for almost 3 hrs. Begging this movie to end! I need therapy!! LOL!!
High Spirits (1988)
It's A Fun, Hilarious Ride!
I have always enjoyed this movie because the people in it are so funny, especially the employees at Plunkett Castle! Peter Plunkett had the employees try to make the castle more appealing to people who liked ghosts by making them dress the parts of ghosts, a banshee, etc. However, they almost kill themselves and the guests with their ineptitude! The ropes that helped the 'ghosts' fly broke, mirrors for the illusions also broke and decapitated a dummy and more! During all this confusion real ghosts show up and everything gets wilder and crazier! If you're looking for an Oscar nominated movie, this ain't it! But if you want some ridiculous laughter, I suggest this movie! I love it!!
2nd Chance for Christmas (2019)
A Cute Movie
I finally watched 2nd Chance For Christmas all the way through and I enjoyed it. It wasn't a heavy-hitter type of movie meaning it wasn't real deep and neither was there a lot of intense acting/directing, yet it kept my interest. Chance was a diva-type singer that had no regard for the people who worked for her or her family. She hates Christmas (it is never revealed why). She was mean and indifferent even to her fans, which is a major no-no! A mother brings her sick daughter to see Chance and possibly get an autograph, but Chance treats her fans like dirt and the mother and her daughter walk away heart-broken. As in the Dickens classic, Chance is visited by 3 ghosts who take her on a trip to her past, present and future. The way the ghosts presented themselves was very interesting and I looked forward to see what would happen next. There was a scene with the ghost of Christmas future that was scary because she changed from a beautiful woman to an angel of death or something. It certainly got Chance's attention! Its really a modern take on the old story that's been retold over and over, but I liked the changes. As always the message is clear: Be helpful and respectful to others while living your life to the fullest!
The Haunting Passion (1983)
Sexy, Beautiful and Believable!
I saw The Haunting Passion when it first appeared on tv. I have always loved Jane Seymour movies since I first saw her in Sinbad Eye of the Tiger in the 70s. I'm a hopeless romantic and loved the previews of The Haunting Passion, liking the sexy vibe, but since I'm not a fan of scary movies, this one started creeping me out! I didn't know if Jane Seymour's character was having a nervous breakdown or what! But after the first 'love scene' I had to keep watching to find out what in the world (or 'other world') was going on! When the real story was revealed I must say I was surprised because I didn't see that coming! Such beautiful & handsome actors and great director/staff! Their talents helped make this story believable because it could have easily come across as stupid and not worth the time to watch. Enjoy!
The Windblown Hare (1949)
Too Funny!
Bugs Bunny is looking for a house to replace the hole in the ground he lives in. He comes across a straw house, but doesn't know the Three Pigs are looking for a chump to buy it because they know the wolf is coming. Soon after Bugs buys the house, the wolf comes by and blows it down. Growing up watching this in the 60s, one of the funniest things to me was how the wolf said, "Blow-w-w-!" Another hilarious moment was Grandma! The wolf comes to Grandma's house and literally kicks her out of it! She knows the Red Riding Hood story and tries to talk him into eating her, but he tells her he hasn't time! He's throwing her stuff into a suitcase and she takes off screaming and running out the door! I can't watch that scene without laughing still!! Bugs takes revenge on the wolf until he finds out that the wolf is not the bad guy, but the pigs are! Great ending to a one of a kind take on the story! It's a gem!!!
Green Lantern (2011)
Lots of Good Sci-Fi Action!
I am not a Ryan Reynolds fan. I don't know why, but I'm not. I put off looking at this movie because of it even though I loved Green Lantern as a kid. However, years later when I saw some action packed trailers of it I decided to watch. It was (surprise, surprise) good! The story was kind of complex and since I'm not a sci-fi fan, it got away from me in places. But the parts I could understand were great. It had everything in it: Drama, romance, comedy, action, etc. I don't why some critics didn't like it nor why some fans hated it because I enjoyed it! When I've done face painting, Green Lantern is one of the choices. The boys love it when I not only paint the mask on them, but the ring on their finger! It's a cool movie that I feel has not been given proper credit. Someone wrote that it was the worse movie Reynolds ever made, but not to me. This is one of his movies I'm able to enjoy!
Dracula (1974)
Not Too Bad
Although the movie is kind of cheesy, it's Jack Palance that makes it worth seeing. He plays Dracula with an intensity that's so believable it can give you chills! It's seeing this movie when I was a kid that made me a fan of Palance and Dracula! Beside Palance, the acting and directing is sub-par and really ruins the movie. The crappy scenery doesn't help either. But if you keep in mind that we are not talking about Shakespeare here, it's entertaining. That Jack Palance was great at creepiness! Love that man!!
Seeking Justice (2011)
It Kept My Attention!
A person should always watch a movie themselves instead of relying on reviews. I love Cage, but some of his movies suck and it seems the low reviewers went by his not so hot movies. But as for me, I found the acting, action and suspense to be very good! Cage plays a teacher who is given a chance for revenge by a mysterious stranger when his wife is violently attacked. He soon becomes suspicious of the stranger and the company he represents. The stranger turns up everywhere! So, Cage starts searching for answers and the more he searched the worse things got! More people are involved than Cage imagined! I never knew what would happen next and my eyes were glued to the set! Some secrets are revealed that really surprised me! It ain't Oscar material, but it was entertaining. Cage can still kick some butt!
The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000)
A Poor Excuse For A Flintstone Movie!
As a fan who grew up in the 60s with the tv show, I take my Flintstones very seriously. I enjoyed the 1994 movie. It made me laugh. But this one? Ugh! My first complaint is with Stephan Baldwin playing Barney. I thought he was trying too hard to act and sound like Barney. He just came across as goofy! I didn't think Harvey Korman should have had a part in the first movie and defiantly not this one! He was like a joke and I hated that! Rosie O'Donnell should not have been in this one either! I thought the other actors were great, but the script was a little messed up. Why was Alan Cummings playing plural roles?! Come on, guys! Fred and Barney switching dates was in poor taste, too! Who thought that mess up?! My last gripe is Ann-Margaret singing Viva Rock Vegas! I love her, she has a great voice, but this was not her song! She was great with Elvis in the 1960s Viva Las Vegas and that was good enough! Imo, Alan Cummings did a great job with the song. They should have let his version be played in the plane ride scene to Rock Vegas! I'm done. Ouch! I have a headache! LOL!
Date with an Angel (1987)
It's A Lovely, Feel Good Movie!
My kids and I love this movie! My children are grown with families of their own now, but we still quote ("Kick his butt then!") and laugh at this movie! It has hilarious moments in it and we fell in love with the beautiful angel! Emmanuelle Beart really made the angel believable and stole every scene she was in by using just a look and sounds! The other characters were funny, too. Phoebe Cates with the panties on the outside of her pants was a riot! I don't know why Date With An Angle didn't catch on with a wider audience, but my family just loved it!
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
What A Botched Job!
I'd been waiting on this movie for years and when I finally get to see it, it's a big mess! I can understand the dream stone stuff and Barbara wanting to be like Diana, but beyond that, no, I don't understand what I just watched! It's so heavy handed until it's confusing! Steve comes back because Diana wished it, but he comes back looking like someone else in the mirror! Maxwell Lord is insane and is weird. The way he keeps yanking on his son, smothering him with over the top affection is just creepy (not in a sexual way)! OMG this thing is so long I wanted to scream, "Hurry up!" For a woman who was a teen in the 70s who loved the Wonder Woman tv show, I'm appalled at the treatment of my she-ro! The previous Gal Gadot Wonder Woman was kinda cool despite problems, but this one is mostly problems and rare cool. I'm so disappointed!
The Little Things (2021)
A Confusing, Brain Mush!
Denzel Washington looked dumpy, but I kept watching because I knew actors alter their appearance. The movie dragged so much we started falling asleep! I found it hard to follow. I didn't understand why Jimmy went with a dangerous suspect and dug holes. What was that?! Deke was seeing the murder victims in his room and had conversations with them?! What was the significance of Deke hugging Jimmy and calling him boy?! The main characters are wonderful actors, but this was poorly put together. It seemed cheap because it had an old time soap opera look. I am too disappointed!
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Too Heavy-handed!
I finally saw this movie after years of my kids saying how much they liked it. Since I love the super heroes from my childhood in the 60s, I wasn't too impressed with prior Dark Knight movies, but decided to take a look. Man, I could hardly follow this mess! Oh, it had some great tech gadgets and special effects, but there was so much going on at one time that I got confused! I stopped trying too deeply to understand it and just wanted to see how the good guys beat the bad ones at the end. I must have missed it, but I never understood why Bane watched over the girl, what happened to his face and what would happen if his mask was removed. I appreciate some of the new versions of super hero movies and, as a kid, thought some of the prior ones were corny. My brother and I used to laugh at them. I'm not a purist about them, but I do expect their movies to be respectful and very entertaining. I must say that I love all the actors, so they weren't the problem. Maybe the writers and director were too intense. So sad...
Rock-a-Bye Bear (1952)
One of the Best Tex Avery!
Spike the dog is hired to guard a bear's house while he hibernates, but another dog wants the job. The bear is violently insane about there being no noise while he sleeps and the bad dog uses this against Spike. The tricks the little dog uses are funny enough, but what steals the show is the bear screaming at Spike for every little sound he hears! This cartoon made me fall in love with Tex Avery as a kid in the 60s. Avery's cartoons were irreverent and different from others as this cartoon shows. There is violence, screaming, loud burping and Spike running away on his butt muscles! Who does that?! Hilarious! We couldn't get enough then and I still love it 50 years later!!
