It’s a truth universally acknowledged that the Marvel Cinematic Universe — or, and we’re just coining this term right this very second, the “MCU” — has had a shaky time trying to find a post-Infinity Saga groove. But one of the major highlights of the past few years has been the Ms. Marvel TV series, in which Pakistani-American teen Kamala Khan discovers an intergalactic bracelet belonging to her grandmother, and boom! It unlocks powers within her and turns this New Jersey-based Avengers superfan into a bona fide superhero. It offered a rare,...

There is a scene early on in The Marvels, the 33rd installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel makes a triumphant return by gliding through the cosmos of outer space with her trusty alien cat, Goose, perched imperiously on her shoulder. The feline looks as if it were a Space Bastet. This teases an interesting movie; a space opera wherein the most powerful beings in the universe are a woman and her cat. Imagine the kind of zany adventures they could have if you committed to the bit?
Shortly afterward, there is another scene where a young woman who calls herself Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), but who is really a teen named Kamala Khan, fangirls hard upon discovering her idol, Captain Marvel, was just in her living room. You can guess the sputtering double takes and easy laughs that ensue, yet laugh you shall because...

Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, gets her powers entangled with those of fellow heroes Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan in the second trailer for The Marvels, which has dropped just in time to generate Comic-Con buzz.
The sequel’s first trailer had Larson joined by Iman Vellani, the breakout of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel in the role of Kamala Khan, as well as Teyonah Parris as the grown-up version of Captain Marvel character Monica Rambeau, as they join forces to save the universe.
But the official trailer gives more clues as to why the unlikely trio must join hands as The Marvels, as we learn more about the film’s archvillain, Zawe Ashton’s Dar-Benn. Having secured a powerful bracelet, she appears bent on revenge as Dar-Benn scrambles the light-based powers of Danvers, Rambeau and Khan.

"She's entangled our light-based powers." This fall, The Marvels take flight. Marvel Studios has revealed the full official trailer for The Marvels, the highly anticipated sequel to the hit Captain Marvel (from 2019) and also a continuation of the series Ms. Marvel and Secret Invasion. The story follows three superheroes: Carol Danvers played by Brie Larson, Kamala Khan played by Iman Vellani, Monica Rambeau played by Teyonah Parris (recast from Lashana Lynch in the original). When they begin swapping places with each other every time they use their powers, the trio must team up to determine why and stop whoever did this. Sounds like fun! Though this trailer is much more serious than comical. The full cast includes Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Zawe Ashton, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, Gary Lewis, and Park Seo-joon. The Flerken cat Goose is back, along with a bunch of other space kitties.

Say what you like about Billy Corgan–and, let’s be honest, you could say quite a bit– you’ve gotta give the man props for his tireless work ethic and relentless creative energy. Even while putting the finishing touches on Cyr, the Smashing Pumpkins’ 20-song 2020 release, Corgan was already deep into crafting Atum: A Rock Opera in Three Acts, a 33-song trilogy he described as a sequel to 1995’s Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and 2000’s Machina/The Machines of God. However tortured Corgan may seem at times,...

The third and final act of Smashing Pumpkins’ Atum, the “rock opera” Billy Corgan wrote as a follow-up to the iconic albums Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and Machina/The Machines of God, has arrived. Get melodramatic and listen to the complete project below.
Pronounced “autumn,” Smashing Pumpkins’ 12th album marks another lengthy addition to the band’s catalog. The 33-track LP was released in three parts, with Act 1 arriving in November and Act 2 following in January. Now that Act 3 has hit streaming services, you can also order a boxset that features 10 more bonus tracks.
In a past interview with Kerrang!, Corgan said the album goes in “a million different directions. I’d say about a third of the record is heavy. A third is kind of more similar to what we’ve been doing recently, and I don’t know what the other third would be called. I...

Scottish thriller Guilt is back for the third and final chapter in the McCall Brothers trilogy. Neil Forsyth’s fiendishly plotted drama all began when Max and Jake – a ruthless lawyer who’d climbed his way out of his working class Leith upbringing to wealth and status, and his vinyl-loving record shop slacker sibling – were flung together when they tried to cover up an accidental hit-and-run. So began a complex and gripping story about money laundering, Edinburgh gangsters, betrayal, class, family and yes, guilt.
Series three finds Max and Jake forced back to Edinburgh where some old enemies await. They’re joined by Pi-turned legal advisor Kenny Burns, his police detective girlfriend Yvonne, criminal kingpin Maggie Lynch, dangerously unpredictable ex-con Teddy and more familiar faces from the first two series. Also appearing are a range of new characters, as follows:

Megan McDonnell, Nia DaCosta, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells wrote the screenplay, with DaCosta (2021’s Candyman) directing. Kevin Feige produces, and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Mary Livanos, and Matthew Jenkins executive produce.

Carol Danvers, her supporting cast, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole have all come a long way since our very first tease of Brie Larson's space-faring superhero. Most would agree that the 2019 film did an adequate job of establishing the origin story for the eponymous Captain Marvel, tying together her Air Force background, a test flight gone horribly awry, and her subsequent team-up with a young, pre-eyepatch Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) against the perceived threat of the shapeshifting Skrulls and the sinister Supreme Intelligence. After saving the world once again in "Avengers: Endgame" and making brief cameos in both "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" and "Ms. Marvel," the Disney+ series starring Iman Vellani as the lovable Kamala Khan, we've yet to see the energy-blasting superhero back in action ... until now.

The Marvels? Were they a Berry Gordy group or a Phil Spector one? Neither! It’s the name of an upcoming chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and its first teaser trailer has just been released.
Longbox-owning nerds already know that there have been multiple characters who have held the title of Captain Marvel, and this movie has found a way to bring them all together. In a three-way “Freaky Friday” scenario, Brie Larson’s (star of 2019’s “Captain Marvel”), Teyonah Parris (who co-starred in Disney+’s “WandaVision”), and Iman Vellani of “Ms. Marvel” are somehow connected, and when any of them use their powers—poof!—they swap bodies to zip across time and space. This being just a teaser trailer, the specifics of their conflict (beyond the displacement) remain a little vague, but one thing that’s certain is that it will include a lot of action.

The trailer for The Marvels shows Captain Marvel soaring higher, faster and farther — this time with a pair of allies by her side.
The Marvels is the sequel to the 2019 film Captain Marvel, which starred Brie Larson. In the sequel, Larson is joined by Iman Vellani, the breakout of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, as well as Teyonah Parris as the grown-up version of Captain Marvel character Monica Rambeau. The actor made her Marvel debut with WandaVision, which counted The Marvels screenwriter Megan McDonnell among its writers.
The Marvels is directed by Candyman filmmaker Nia DaCosta and finds the heroes linked in a quite inconvenient way: Any time one of them uses their powers, they switch locations with one another — as was teased in the season finale of Ms. Marvel last year.
In the trailer, Beastie Boys’ “Intergalactic” is the soundtrack for this team-up of marvelous proportions, as Nick Fury...

Walker is an assassin, one of the best in the business. But this time one of the witnesses wasn’t as dead as they seemed to be. With his cover potentially blown, he needs a trip to “Reassignment Center 42” to be fitted out with a new identity, a process that he seems to be quite familiar with.
This time however there’s barely time for him to have his fingerprints burned off before the facility comes under attack by a team of heavily armed mercenaries under the command of Keates. Their target is Juliet and her protector Elda.
Director Brad Watson’s credits run more towards horror films such as Beacon 77 and For We Are Many than action, and The Siege is Nicole Bartlett’s first produced script...

2021 brought us a lot of TV, including many new entries for Science Fiction and Fantasy lovers.
There was plenty of new high-profile Fantasy/Sci-Fi series this year that were a pleasure to watch.
On the other side of things, some returning series continued their reign of popularity.
Check out the list to see if your favorites (or least favorites!) made it!
As always, please share with us in the comments below what you think should've made the list!
Best - Chucky
Chucky doesn't disappoint, invoking cheer and disgust (only the best kind of disgust!).
Bringing back characters from the film series is a load of treats for fans, and the odd use of Chucky actor Brad Dourif's real-life daughter is brave and creative.
It's gore-alicious!
Best - Roswell, New Mexico
After two seasons that were uneven at best, Roswell came back for season 3 and was on top of their game.

UK sci-fi series Intergalactic will not be coming back for a second season at Sky, Gabriel Silver, Director of Commissioning for Drama, confirmed today.
Speaking at the Edinburgh TV festival, the exec said the company had been “disappointed with audience figures” for the show, which broadcast on Sky One earlier this year.
Intergalactic follows a crew of female convicts who break free and go on the run. It stars Savannah Steyn, Eleanor Tomlinson and Natasha O’Keeffe.
Silver added that the show had turned out to be a “bigger risk than we anticipated”, noting the difficult in finding audiences for “English-accented sci-fis”.
Asked what his team at Sky was looking to commission, the exec said they remain open minded but are “quite well stocked on gangsters and drug dealers”.
On the gangster theme, during today’ session, Silver confirmed Deadline‘s scoop in February that the broadcast is teaming with Vertigo Films...

Among the detective dramas and high-stakes thrillers due to arrive on British television in the next year or so, there are a clutch of sci-fi, supernatural and horror shows also coming our way. April saw the release of Sky One original Intergalactic – the story of a wrongly imprisoned galactic pilot who breaks out of space jail with a gang of other high-security female prisoners – and Netflix has ordered fantasy novel adaptations Half Bad, Cuckoo Song, Lockwood & Co. and The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle – respectively, tales of witches, supernatural pacts, ghost-hunters, and a woman who jumps between bodies in her quest to solve a murder mystery. Coming to terrestrial TV, there’s Life After Life and The Three, stories about living multiple versions of the same life, and the miraculous child survivors of a mysterious plane crash.

Sky One sci-fi Intergalactic is part conspiracy thriller, part prison break drama, and all space romp. It’s set 150 years in the future, when all of Earth’s nations have united into a single authority known as the Commonworld, and a new element has enabled Earth’s people to escape ecological collapse and colonise other planets via intergalactic travel. Over eight episodes, available to stream as a box-set on Now, we follow a group of female fugitives searching for freedom and uncovering long-buried lies.
The cast has been gathered from far and wide, ranging from relative newcomers to TV like Diany Samba-Bandza to more familiar faces Natasha O’Keeffe, Thomas Turgoose and Eleanor Tomlinson, and established actors Parminder Nagra, Craig Parkinson and Neil Maskell. Here’s who everybody is playing, and the major roles where you may have encountered them before.

This week marks the launch of new Sky Original series Intergalactic, and to mark the occasion we had the pleasure of speaking to several members of this illustrious ensemble. Below find interviews with Parminder Nagra (Bend it Like Beckham) and Craig Parkinson (Line of Duty), as well as Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Rogue One) and Oliver Coopersmith (Tin Star), before ending on Thomas Turgoose (This is England).
We discuss everything, ranging from the remarkable sets the actors worked on, to the costumes, and the characters they’ve been given. We talk about the film’s strong, empowering feminist approach, and why even though who turn up their nose to science-fiction, ought to give this one a go. We ask whether the actors were able to nab any memorabilia from the shoot, and we even chat to Parkinson about Line of Duty. Enjoy!

Sky One’s new sci-fi drama series, Intergalactic, features a cast as stellar as its out-of-this-world settings. On a visit to its impressive set at Manchester’s appropriately named Space Studios, we got to chat to some of the actors who are boldly going into the depths of a fascinating galaxy. For those of us whose biggest source of excitement this past year has been a trip to the shops, it’s a tempting proposition.
The show’s key characters are a ragtag bunch of prisoners aboard the transport ship Hemlock and their guards. They’re forging a new future after they make a break for freedom, with a futuristic Earth’s authoritarian government in hot pursuit. The lively, larky chemistry between the actors is evident from the minute they come bounding in, covered in alarmingly realistic fake blood after filming the violent aftermath of a parasite infestation. The time is February 2020. The place? Manchester’s Space Studios, on the extraordinary set of Intergalactic, Sky’s new sci-fi drama series. From an immersive set, cramped within the bowels of a prison ship, to concept art of stunning sci-fi landscapes, there’s nothing to remind us of a mundane present that will, only a month later, come to seem like something of a lost utopia.
Well, almost nothing. The screensaver on one of the ship’s computers bears the logo of Her Majesty’s Government. Is time travel involved, then? Nope. It’s a relic from previous work on Cobra, the Sky political drama about the collapse of British society in the aftermath of a disaster. Oddly fitting, really…
Mercifully, we come back to the future. First things first, though: this isn’t the galaxy as we know it. “We are set 150 years in the future,” explains producer Iona Vrolyk.

The open nature of animation as a genre and the seeming limitlessness of Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland’s imaginations means that their Adult Swim creation Rick and Morty occupies a big universe … or universes more accurately
This creates for an undeniably exciting viewing experience. It feels like anything can happen in a multiverse-spanning episode of Rick and Morty – because just about anything probably can. But that enormous universe also means an equally enormous stable of characters, which can be hard to keep up with. We gave it our best shot over here, but now the real professionals are stepping in to make sure the critters, creatures, cretins, and characters of Rick and Morty are properly catalogued.
