The team has little time to mourn its chief Piere Mertens's death by Antiglobalist car bomb, the selection of a successor has already begun. They are assigned to guard Leila, spoiled wife of Algerian defense minister and presidential candidate Mourad Djeba. Cued by HQ North Africa desk chief Alexander Van Praet, they lean on Algeria-specialized reporter Rudy Vromman to help identify an Algerian opponent. Leila is abducted from a restaurant on their watch but her family past also proves relevant.

The state security got a tip from Farah's informer trusted informer Samuel Bloch about blood diamonds illegally imported by the elusive extreme Zionist Rosenthal's anti-Palestinian terror-movement in Antwerp port, but can't confiscate anything. Samuel swears he must have been betrayed and goes in hiding until he's paid to start a new life. The team suspects his mate Simon Zygler and spies on him by leaning on his doting apolitical grandmother Esther Groenberg. Meanwhile new chief Alexander finds an indication that his predecessor Pierre, who planned to resign, kept illegal copies of top secret files and may have been a double agent.

Alexander Van Praet tells the team he knows about their illegal efforts to clear Pierre and accepts not to report them if they keep him informed, but soon finds them still secretive. He passes on orders to Rob to dump his deep informer Sofie Gijsels in the mindfulness society suspected of carrying on a deadly sect's pseudo-medical practices which killed her sister Nathalie. Just then, they find proof of the involvement under pseudonym of disbarred doctor Yannick Piron, now Jan Marius, but that proves a brilliant trap, publicly clearing him with an aura of persecuted healer.
