In A Violent Nature might be Canadian writer and director Chris Nash’s feature debut, but he’s hardly an untested rookie (and it shows). His ABCs of Death 2 segment “Z is for Zygote” teases his knack for producing practical effects and what to expect by the bucket full in his subversive Sundance slasher. Nash’s experience in effects departments, like serving as On-Set Creature Effects Supervisor for Psycho Goreman, translates into a slasher experience that stands pound-for-pound with modern masterclasses of mutilation like the Terrifier series. In A Violent Nature is one of the bloodiest, most punishing, and refreshingly original slashers in some time, but its unique approach will divide horror audiences — that’s the looming risk that comes along with shoot-for-the-moon ambitions.

The video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s (read our review Here) quickly became Blumhouse Productions’ highest-grossing movie when it reached theatres and the Peacock streaming service back in October, surpassing the likes of Split, The Invisible Man, The Black Phone, M3GAN, the recent Halloween sequel trilogy, and the Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and The Purge franchises with its haul of $295 million. We’ve been expecting to see a sequel announcement show up online at any time… but while that official announcement still hasn’t come, Five Nights at Freddy’s star Josh Hutcherson has confirmed that a sequel is in development!
Hutcherson told Variety, “I know they’re in the process right now of nailing down the story, and they want to get going as soon as possible. Obviously, the fans are amazing and die hard. For me to be a part of it was was so cool and phenomenal. We...

Lillard told Syfy Wire he would love to reprise the role of William Afton. “If it does come back, and if I’m lucky to be brought back, sure, yeah. I mean, I barely got to touch him, right? I got to kill my daughter, but we know nothing about him. We know nothing about his history, about his journey.

It’s all about the color red for the 7th day of Creepmas; blood red, to be precise. Bloody Disgusting’s 12 Days of Creepmas continues the holiday horror revelry, this time with holiday slashers that aim to paint the snow red with arterial spray and carnage. These holiday slashers demonstrate that there’s more to the realm of holiday slashers than killer Santas with a variety of Yuletide killers, from lonely security guards to mutated murderous snowmen. Save for one feel-good slasher to kick things off, today’s Creepmas offerings mainly capture the grimmer side of the holidays.
The 12 Days of Creepmas continues on Bloody Disgusting, this time with 7 holiday set slashers to paint the snow blood red.

Here at /Film, we have talked quite a bit about how much we love genre-specific streaming services like Shudder or Alter, but does such a platform exist for fans of science fiction? Sure, there's always the Syfy channel on cable, but with so many people cutting cords and pivoting exclusively to streaming, you may be wondering where to find new and unique sci-fi stories. Well, may we interest you in Dust? A sister site of Alter, Dust comes from the folks at Gunpowder and Sky, the independent studio behind hits like "Summer of 84," "Tragedy Girls," "Her Smell," "Hearts Beat Loud," "Call Me Miss Cleo," and "Kobe Bryant's Dear Basketball."
A hub for the very best in sci-fi short films, Dust also has a live linear channel constantly playing from their selection of shorts, so if you don't feel like wading through the selections, you can let the service choose for you.

The new film “It’s a Wonderful Knife,” written by Michael Kennedy (“Freaky”) and directed by Tyler MacIntyre (“Tragedy Girls;” “V/H/S/99”) falls into numerous genres: slasher, comedy, holiday and even LGBTQ+.
It’s no surprise that Kennedy and MacIntyre drew upon some obvious — and not-so-obvious — inspirations for the festive and frightening feature. TheWrap caught up with Kennedy and MacIntyre to talk all things “It’s a Wonderful Knife.”
The obvious inspiration for the film — which finds a young woman (Jane Widdop) transported to a world where she never existed on the eve of Christmas — is “It’s a Wonderful Life.” What is your connection to the classic?
Kennedy: It was a holiday staple in my family household growing up every year, and a Christmas family favorite. It was also my dad’s favorite movie; he passed away in 2018. So this movie was kind of a weird way to honor him.

The Hallmark Channel has turned the holiday season – specifically, the months-long Christmas season – into an incredibly lucrative all-year affair. Numbers-wise, Lifetime Channel isn’t too far behind. Both rely on formulaic plots, inexpensive, fungible talent on both sides of the digital camera and enough snow, real and otherwise, to blanket small countries. They’re also not-so-clever advertisements for the relentless consumerism that has defined late-stage capitalism, making them easy targets for satire or parody. Add a slasher motivated by a combination of bloodlust and unfettered greed and the result looks, sounds, and feels like writer Michael Kennedy (Freaky) and director Tyler MacIntyre’s holiday slasher, It’s a Wonderful Knife. True to the punny title, It’s a Wonderful Knife borrows plot...

A celebratory slasher that slices into the traditional fabric of Christmas-themed cinema, It's a Wonderful Knife invites viewers into Angel Falls, a seemingly idyllic haven where everything is "perfect" around the holidays... except for that masked killer running around town. One year after putting a stop to the killer's Christmas Eve rampage, Winnie Carruthers (Jane Widdop) can't stand to live within her small town's toxic positivity in the aftermath of unspeakable tragedies. With a little murderous holiday magic, she finds herself whisked away to an alternate version of her town where she never existed... and the Christmas killer is not only still surviving but is thriving with a body count that continues to rise all year round. It's up to Winnie to stop the killer once again, save her friends and family, and find a way back to her own timeline, all while learning some things about herself amidst the Christmas carnage.

A Christmas miracle turns macabre in time-bending holiday horror It’s A Wonderful Knife. Written by screenwriter remixologist Michael Kennedy (Freaky) and directed by Tyler Macintyre (Tragedy Girls), this snowy slasher bends the bones of Frank Capra’s heart-warming It’s a Wonderful Life (1947) into a stalk & slash tale of hell on earth and ill will toward the inhabitants of an idyllic mountain town. It’s a very on-the-nose re-imagining of the holiday classic that delivers its biggest gifts in the first act but features some silly characters and a send-up of every painfully charming Christmas movie already flooding streaming platforms.

High concept holiday slasher It’s a Wonderful Knife continues the time honored tradition of injecting horror into cozy holiday fare. Director Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls, V/H/S/99) and writer Michael Kennedy (Freaky) blend Scream 2 with It’s a Wonderful Life to plunge its central characters into a bizarro snow globe of horrors, wearing their cinematic influences on their sleeves throughout. It’s not the horror that dominates this high concept mashup, though; It’s a Wonderful Knife is more interested in spreading holiday cheer and warm fuzzy feels.

Over the past few years, horror fans have enjoyed a rejuvenation of the slasher subgenre. Even more exciting is the fact that writers and directors are finding new and creative ways to make slasher movies fun. A great example of this is the body swap horror comedy Freaky (2020), written by Michael Kennedy and Christopher Landon and directed by Landon. Now Kennedy has written the time-travel Christmas slasher It’s a Wonderful Knife, directed by Tyler MacIntyre, who also directed the dark horror comedy Tragedy Girls (2017).
It’s a Wonderful Knife tells the story of teenager Winnie Carruthers, played by Jane Widdop (Yellowjackets), who saves her hometown of Angel Falls from an unhinged killer on Christmas Eve. A year later, struggling to cope with the events of the previous Christmas, Winnie wishes she had never been born and is mysteriously transported to a parallel universe where things are even worse than she could have ever imagined.

The heart of the canon of Christmas horror movies is growing three sizes this year thanks to "It's a Wonderful Knife," the yuletide slasher from "Tragedy Girls" and "V/H/S/99" director Tyler MacIntyre and "Freaky" screenwriter Michael Kennedy. I've been working in this industry for quite some time, and MacIntyre and Kennedy are two people I've been privileged to get to know over the years. Both are responsible for two of my favorite horror films of the last decade, so seeing them join forces for a holiday horror flick has reignited my belief in Santa Claus, because he certainly got my letter. The new film tells the story of Winnie Carruthers (Jane Widdop), who, one year after becoming a final girl and saving the town of Angel Falls from a psychotic killer on Christmas Eve, wishes she was never born and wakes up in a parallel universe where she doesn't exist...

If you were a kid or teen in the 2000s, it's likely that you watched at least one movie featuring Josh Hutcherson, and it's also likely that you had a favorite movie with him in it. Hutcherson began acting in the early 2000s and had minor roles in a variety of TV shows before making his film debut in 2003's "American Splendor." From there, Hutcherson was launched into stardom and starred in a number of popular films throughout the decade, including "Kicking & Screaming," "Zathura: A Space Adventure," and "Journey to the Center of the Earth." By the 2010s, Hutcherson took on more mature roles and arguably landed his most popular role as Peeta Mellark in "The Hunger Games," which he would reprise for the remaining three movies in the beloved film series.

"It's A Wonderful Knife" is a warm and fuzzy Christmas slasher that reimagines "It's A Wonderful Life" in a head-on collision with "Scream." Writer Michael Kennedy and director Tyler MacIntyre don't want to eviscerate Yuletide feelings like other Christmas horror movies, much in the spirit of George Bailey's uplifting seasonal journey. It's all bloody, decking the halls with gory delights, but there's also a wholesomeness at the story's core akin to self-affirming modern slashers like "Happy Death Day" or Kennedy's own "Freaky." Imagine a Hallmark holiday special that's hacked to bits by a psychotic killer, more along the lesson-teaching lines of "Krampus" than the repulsive(ly entertaining) violence in "Silent Night."
It's Christmastime in Angel Falls, and high schooler Winnie Carruthers (Jane Widdop) is hitting all the traditions. There's a tree lighting ceremony led by the town's egomaniacal developer, Henry Waters (Justin Long), and a boozy party for the local teens.

Freaky is one of my favorite horror movies released this decade, so when I heard that Freaky co-writer Michael Kennedy had written a new holiday horror film titled It's a Wonderful Knife (helmed by Tragedy Girls director Tyler MacIntyre), it immediately rose to the top of my must-see list, and the official trailer promises plenty of seasonal scares for horror fans to unwrap when the Christmas-themed slasher is released in theaters on November 10th.
Directed by Tyler MacIntyre and written and produced by Michael Kennedy, It's a Wonderful Knife stars Cassandra Naud, Justin Long, Joel McHale, and Jane Widdop.

It’s been there in front of you the whole time, and only now is it clear that it was possible: what if somebody crossed over :a[It’s A Wonderful Life]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/wonderful-life-review/' target='_blank' rel='noreferrer noopener'} with a slasher movie? You know, take the film that questions what the world would be like if you never existed in it, and turned into a serial killer flick. You could even give it a genius title, like :a[It’s A Wonderful Knife]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/freaky-writers-next-slasher-mash-up-is-its-a-wonderful-knife/' target='_blank' rel='noreferrer noopener'}. The first trailer for "It's A Wonderful Knife" is here, and it has everything we never knew we needed from a holiday-set slasher: Laura Lee from "Yellowjackets," a killer who looks like Moon Knight, and ... Justin Long with a spray tan?! Long's involvement in the movie — playing chipper Mayor Waters — should make it a must-see anyway given his wild and watchable horror track record, but there are plenty of reasons to get stoked for "It's A Wonderful Knife."
The movie is the latest from "Freaky" writer Michael Kennedy, with "Tragedy Girls" filmmaker Tyler MacIntyre directing. That means "It's A Wonderful Knife" is almost certain to have a sharp comedic edge to it, something that's clear from the first seconds of the trailer when Mayor Waters, looking and sounding weirdly like a Martin Short character, campily declares, "I give you ... Christmas!" The festivities are soon cut short, though, when a...

The past few years have brought a handful of fantastic horror-comedies that have really hit home with fans. Films like Happy Death Day, Freaky and Tragedy Girls have delivered stories and characters that we connect with, along with the requisite blood and body count that we all crave. Fantastic Fest closed another wonderful year with a new comedy that is definitely going to be a crowd-pleaser. Totally Killer is a massively fun film that keeps you laughing until the end.
At first glance, the small town of Vernon seems like any small town. And it is, really. Except for that triple murder that took place in 1988, of course. Three teenage girls were viciously killed within days of one another, and the masked killer was never caught. But the town remembers. Every year there are people out trick or treating in the guise of the killer and there is even a...

There's no shortage of shows about superheroes and certainly no shortage of edgy coming-of-age shows, but "The Boys" spinoff series "Gen V" is about to go where no other series has gone before — by combining the two and delivering a series that is essentially the Disney movie "Sky High," but if all the characters were horny as hell college students and had extreme powers like blood bending. Set at the prestigious Godolkin University (aka "God U") founded by Vought International as a training ground for young superheroes, the series is set to align with season 3 of "The Boys," which ended with the reveal that this world is not like X-Men where heroes are born, but instead intentionally mutated by Vought International with Compound V (think "Chemical X" in "The Powerpuff Girls").
As the trailer for the upcoming series has shown, the college environment doesn't mean the extreme violence, sexuality, and graphic brutality have been sacrificed.

What’s the scariest creature the world has ever known? If you said the sloth, you’re not alone. Some may find these furry bundles of lethargy charming, but a closer look reveals a devious predator lurking amidst the trees just waiting to attack us with those long, blood-soaked claws. Matthew Goodhue’s Slotherhouse pits this tree-hanging menace with another fearsome fiend: the ambitious sorority girl.
Animal lover Emily (Lisa Ambalavanar) has set her sights on the Presidential Suite of her lavish sorority house as she begins her senior year of college. Unfortunately, this means she’ll have to take down incumbent mean girl Brianna (Sydney Craven) and her team of frightened minions. Hoping to boost her social media cred, Emily adopts a three–toed sloth she names Alpha from a sketchy animal poacher and unwittingly unleashes a blood bath as the tiny assassin slices her way through the Sigma Lambda Theta sisters.

Carlos Alonso Ojea’s Killer Book Club doesn’t hide its intentions to remix Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson’s Scream — you’ll see both Scream and It referenced by name in the Netflix synopsis. The problem is, over two decades later, who hasn’t attempted to bottle that meta-slasher magic anew? Tyler MacIntyre’s Tragedy Girls and Scott Glosserman’s Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon thrive in a post-Scream world by creatively spinning meta-hilarious screenplays into uncharted territories, a lesson Killer Book Club doesn’t learn. Writer Carlos García Miranda does Scream but worse, foolishly begging for comparisons to a 90s horror classic because subverting expectations requires more labor versus copying someone else’s homework.
The story centers around aspiring best-selling author Ángela (Veki Velilla) and her misfit book club. They meet in an afterthought hangout den out of their school’s public eye, discussing serial killers and ghost stories.
