Danny Dyer has discussed his controversial column in Zoo magazine, in which he gave such abhorrent dating advice that he was fired from his role as agony uncle.
In 2010, the former EastEnders star was sacked from the publication – which closed in 2015 – for advising a man who couldn’t get over his ex-girlfriend to “cut his ex’s face, then no one will want her”.
There was uproar over the piece at the time, which was ghost-written by a journalist who Dyer was dictating to over the phone, and it has tarnished Dyer’s reputation.
Speaking in a new interview with The Times Magazine, Dyer said: “People still hate me for that.”
He continued: “The line is a quote from a film I’d done, but the idea I would advise someone to do it repulsed me. It was a joke. I don’t know why the editor or sub-editor thought it Ok to print that.

After eight scintillating seasons as TV’s most compelling serial killer on “Dexter,” Michael C. Hall is playing for the other team. Looking like a grown-up version of Jonathan Groff’s Holden in “Mindhunter,” Hall plays a detective hunting an elusive serial killer in a new thriller debuting on Netflix later this month. Directed by Sundance award-winning director Jim Mickle, “In the Shadow of the Moon” sets out to catch a repeat killer leaving a string of dead bodies with mysterious bite marks on their necks. The recently released trailer promises an intriguing dose of supernatural elements to keep the viewer on their toes.

How do you tell a mystery twice? If you’re the makers of “Limetown,” you don’t mess with what already worked. Adapted from the popular 2015 podcast (that spawned a second season last year), the new Facebook Watch series doesn’t sweat redundancies and, through two episodes, sprints headfirst into a faithful retelling. Original creators Zach Akers and Skip Bronkie are on board as writers and executive producers — with TV vet Josh Appelbaum showrunning — and the transition from an audible-only story to one with added visual components goes rather smoothly. While there’s still a prevalent, somewhat subverting, reliance on sound, the contributions of a commanding lead like Jessica Biel and outstanding support from Stanley Tucci help this version of “Limetown” feel as engrossing and necessary as the first.
And for newcomers, you’re all set. The conspiracy-thriller is smartly constructed; quickly snatching attention with a spooky intro, just as...

Despite much of the network’s airtime being devoted to procedurals, CBS has developed a recent tradition of devoting its summer programming slots to more out-there genre programming — shows that might defy expectations and represent more bonkers storytelling.
This year, look to “Blood and Treasure” as the latest show to follow in this tradition. A modern-day action thriller with touches of “Indiana Jones” and “National Treasure,” creators Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia deliver an odd couple globe-trotting adventure about an antiquities expert and a cunning art thief who team up to take down a notorious thief/terrorist (played by “The Mummy’s” Oded Fehr.)

Monsters & Critics’ exclusive clip ahead of the March 10 premiere of Animal Planet’s third season of The Zoo is absolutely adorable and will put you in a great mood for the approaching weekend. They say that a milkshake can bring ’em all to the yard, but if you are a lemur, sliced bits of apple was what the Zoo doctor ordered — and will likely work far better. In the clip, lemurs are given a special treat by their friendly handler Alisha Mendez inside the Bronx Zoo – Madagascar section. They went absolutely bonkers trying to stuff their little […]

Goteborg, Sweden — There’s an impending sense of doom in the current zeitgeist, particularly with feelings about climate change, that the Göteborg Film Festival taps into this year with Focus: Apocalypse. Fest artistic director Jonas Holmberg notes, “We are exploring how today’s filmmakers work with the existential, ethical and political aspects of this crisis. Perhaps more than any other art form, film has preoccupied itself with envisioning the apocalypse and post-apocalyptic situations, and perhaps it is precisely through such artistic imaginings that we can deal with civilization’s presently critical state.”
Comprising a thoughtfully-curated program of films, special events and seminars, the focus poses the question “What can humans do, alone or collectively, to save the earth?”
One answer comes via the Icelandic title “Woman At War,” directed by Benedikt Erlingsson, which takes on pressing environmental concerns with humor and aplomb. The eponymous woman is a much beloved, middle-aged Reykjavik choir conductor,...

Not only are we getting a sequel to Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, we’re also getting a spinoff film that will focus on the female characters.
When the project was first announced, we assumed that Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman, Madame Web, Spider-Girl and Silk would be a part of the story. Well, today two of those characters have been confirmed.
During an interview with Vanity Fair, producer Amy Pascal confirmed that Jessica Drew's Spider-Woman and Cindy Moon's Silk will be officially making their way to the big screen in this animated spin-off movie. This is on top of the live-action Silk movie that is in development.
Lauren Montgomery, who has also worked on Avatar: The Last Airbender and Netflix’s Voltron, is currently in talks to direct the all-female spinoff movie that is said to “gather the female heroes in the Spider-Man universe of characters in one adventure.” Bek Smith, who wrote...

If you read that headline and thought, “I’ve already seen Shaun of the Dead,” that’s totally fair. I’ve got a trailer here for a fun looking new horror comedy called Zoo, which tells the story of a couple who are trying to save their marriage as a zombie apocalypse breaks out.
Here’s the synopsis:
Karen and John have lost the spark of married life the day they were notified that they were unable to conceive. Now they almost live like the walking dead, imprisoned by everyday life and on the verge of divorce. When the world is hit by a pandemic that really turns people into zombies, the couple have to lock themselves in their apartment, waiting for rescue. While the world outside is falling apart, they are forced to find their way back to each other and reclaim their lost love.
This actually looks like it could be an entertaining film worth checking out. I really like the concept and as you’ll see in the trailer,...

Marriage is hard. That's the basic underlying premise of Antonio Tublen's latest genre mashing feature film, Zoo. But is it helped or harmed by the outbreak of a zombie apocalypse? That's the question that drives us through. Tublen has been a favorite in these parts for years now, his work always embracing genre elements in intriguing ways while also finding means to flip things on their head. His ultra lo-fi sci-fi feature Lfo won him a lot of fans on the festival circuit and Zoo shares a lot of that film's 'enormous ideas in a tiny package' approach. And coming off a successful premiere in Sitges I would expect this one to be off to a lengthy festival run now as well. Karen and John...

"It's like we're the only two people left in the world." Ping Pong Film has released their first trailer for an indie horror comedy titled Zoo, the latest film from young Swedish filmmaker Antonio Tublen (aka Antonio Steve Tublén of Lfo previously). The film is about a married couple struggling with their relationship who end up stuck together in their apartment when a zombie apocalypse breaks out. They can't go anywhere else, so they must figure out how to deal with each other in order to survive. Until others show up. It's a good concept, but the execution is awful. Zoo stars Zoë Tapper and Ed Speleers, with a small cast including Jan Bijvoet and Antonia Campbell-Hughes. The film just premiered at the Sitges Film Festival, where I saw it and did not like it one bit. I really wanted it to be better, but unfortunately it's a disaster in every way.

James Wolk (Tell Me a Story) has been tapped for a major recurring role on Watchmen, HBO’s upcoming drama series from Damon Lindelof based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ iconic limited comic series.
Written by Lindelof, Watchmen is considered a dark satirical and dystopian take on the superhero genre. Set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.
As usual, the producers and HBO are keeping mum on the role but I hear Wolk plays a junior senator from Oklahoma.

An age-old argument is whether art imitates life or life imitates art.
While I'd argue that these days art takes its cues not from art but from society's vocal minority that exists on social media, cues have been culled from social media, dinner discussions, CNN, local news markets and more on Tell Me a Story Season 1 Episode 1.
This is an episode of television that when (if) watched ten or 20 years from now will be very dated.
Hand to heart, I hope more than anything that's the case even if we're plowing into stories loosely based on classic fairy tales.
What I didn't share in the preview review for Tell Me a Story were the details of the retelling of Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, and Hansel and Gretel. The longer they sit with you, the more haunting they become in hindsight.

Kevin Williamson is no stranger to psychological thrillers and fairytales. After all, he created both Scream and Dawson's Creek and with Julie Plec created our favorite combination of the two, The Vampire Diaries.
Translating a TV series that has seen success on Latin television in Spain and Mexico infused with a beautiful and talented cast should be a winning combination for the prolific producer.

The untitled spinoff hails from writer and executive producer Melissa Glenn, whose recent TV writing credits include “Iron Fist” Season 2, “Zoo,” and “Beauty and the Beast.” Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner, who were executive producers on the original show, will also executive produce the spinoff under their Hazy Mills banner. Universal Television will produce in association with Hazy Mills, with the production company being under an overall deal at the studio.
Glenn is repped by ICM and Ziffren Brittenham. Kouf is repped by Wme.
David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, two of the original series’ three co-creators, will serve as consulting producers.
According to the official description, the new show builds off the mythology of the original series and will feature returning fan favorites while also introducing new characters, new dangers and new mysteries.

Grimm is eying a comeback. NBC is developing a spinoff from the supernatural series, which bowed out last year after six seasons. Like the original, the offshoot hails from Universal TV and Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner’s studio-based Hazy Mills Prods.
Written by Melissa Glenn (Marvel’s Iron Fist), the untitled spinoff, I hear, will center on a female Grimm. Per NBC, building off the mythology of the original series, the new show will feature returning fan favorites while also introducing new characters, new dangers and epic new mysteries. I hear no actors are currently attached but the idea is for the offshoot to feature some original cast members, regular or recurring.
Glenn executive produces with Hazy Mills’ Hayes and Milliner. Grimm co-creators/showrunners David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf will serve as consulting producers.
The original series followed Portland Homicide detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli), who discovered he is a Grimm,...

This might be one bedtime story you don’t want to read right before bed. CBS All Access has released the first trailer for Tell Me a Story, a new thriller from Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries, The Following) that puts a modern — and creepy — twist on three classic fairy tales.
In the trailer above, which debuted at New York Comic Con on Friday, James Wolk (Zoo, Mad Men) stars as Jordan, a once idealistic guy who used to dream of living happily ever after, “but the world has no place for that anymore.” In this dystopian vision of New York City,...
