This movie is just "ok"
theprescell23 October 2023
Watch at your own risk. Meaning: if you like any type of western, you're ok with so-so acting, you don't care if the directing is weak/amateurish... when you finish watching the movie you will say, "ok" movie.

If you are a 'movie buff', don't watch this movie. The acting and direction will have you shaking your head.

The plot is typical or better said 'done too many times'. And this results in no surprises, overly predictable scene after scene.

Lastly... this is a TV-movie at best. One that you quickly skip over while searching your channels and if you really can't find anything at all to watch, you return to this tv-movie and watch it because there is nothing else to do. Oh and yes you will say after that this was an "ok" movie at best.

B-western
SnoopyStyle2 November 2023
It's 1890 Arizona. Martha Rose Jacobs (Sarah Drew) is living her perfect life with husband Jeremiah Jacobs (Lucas Black) and daughter Hope Jacobs (Olivia Sanabia). One night, her past upends her life with a vengeance. They are attacked by a gang led by her father William 'King of Hearts' Bridges (Jeff Fahey) and Hope gets kidnapped.

I like the start and the opening premise. It's a B-western with aspirations to be a good spaghetti western. The filmmaking starts to falter a bit. A few things start bugging me. There is no way that she would hesitate to shoot that guy. She would probably shoot him in the back. She already shot someone in the back. There is no need to do that old trope where the good guy do not shoot first. That guy is shooting at her husband. She needs to put that guy down without warning. Finally, I find the whole card motif thing going overboard. They can be called that, but there is no need for the tents. It's a little ridiculous for rampaging fugitives to be putting up circus tents. There is a good idea here, but the execution keeps getting in the way.

Ok for a second string western
HorrorFilmHellion24 October 2023
Modern westerns typically only come in 2 flavors, excellent or barely watchable. This one is not in the excellent category by any means, but it was quite a bit less cheesy than Dead Man's Hand that I watched directly before this one (which was barely watchable). It's clean and knows what it is but the writing/plot is tedious at times and I thought many of the dialogue scenes were too long and drawn out. Production was obviously on a budget but was ok. Acting and costuming were decent and shots were clean. Lucas Black was probably the least convincing of the bunch for some reason- I guess I've seen Tokyo Drift too many times.. "maaa ride".

Worst western ever made!
fdab5224 February 2024
Since the beginning, first scene, the guy arrives in his horse in a house in the middle of nowhere and his wife dealing with her laundry in the open only notices the man arriving when he is 50 feet away. Ahã!

The grand father is pathetic, an outlaw escaping from justice with a camp under a hill? Hello, if you want to protect yourself, stay in the top!

Also, there was no GPS at that time, but the sherif, manages to hit the spot where there was a dead guy. To persons fire at each other and the director changes scene. A cheep suspense. But the wife of the sheriff arriving in the end is absolutely offensive to viewers. If you like westerns, have watched Dolare Bucato, stay away!

Good grief these were outlaws and anyone could have spotted that tent 100 miles away! So he married her and never knew she was an outlaw The queen of hearts. The sheriff has her wanted poster but never even noticed it was her before her daughter was kidnapped by The king of hearts! This movie is enough to make your head hurt bwhahahahahahahaha The acting is horrible the storyline is lame. I was hoping for a good western which I love but not this lol.

Embrace it.
nogodnomasters4 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The film takes place in the Last Chance, Arizona Territory 1890. Re. Jerimiah Jacobs (Lucas Black) has a fine congregation and soon they will have a church. He is married to Martha (Sarah Drew) and has a daughter Hope (Olivia Sanabia) who likes to shoot. Martha has a past that catches up to her when their daughter Rose is kidnapped by the House Gang led by the "King of Hearts" William Bridgewater (Jeff Fahey). We discover that William Bridgewater is the father of Martha, whose real name is Rose. Hope is offered a chair at the outlaw's table. Her parents attempt to track their daughter while others track them.

This was a Hollywood alternative-type film. They went out of their way to eliminate anything offensive, not realizing offensive material helped create the character and conflict needed to create a successful scene and hence film. This film was boring. Poorly scripted.

Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.

Family movie rating is 9. Some violence.
swilson-9153012 April 2024
This isn't a big budget blockbuster production but it does have a very good cast of actors portraying likeable characters in an entertaining plot with attractive scenes and a "bad girl makes good" theme that is fun to watch.

We need more movies like this for families to watch together.

There are no robots, monsters, zombies, aliens or superheroes in capes.

The lines between good people and bad people are blurred, but, underlying good virtues prevail.

Like the good old westerns of Hollywood's heyday the moral at the end of the story is one of redemption, faith and love.

Although gun violence is portrayed it isn't graphic.

There is no blood, profanity, nudity, drugs, alcohol or smoking and no sexually explicit content.

For a "B movie" it's very good.

Very Nice Old-Western Christian Movie
jordanpow-6759516 November 2023
This is an awesome old-western Christian movie. Likewise, this movie is obviously family-friendly and is a very nice movie for the whole family to watch. Great American PureFlix makes awesome movies that are very cool. This movie is pure and there's no obscene scenes in the movie. This movie was also very nostalgic and quite unique. This is a must watch. I also love old western/country movies that are family friendly, let alone the ones that are biblical Christian movies. This is actually my favorite movie in the western genre. I've also seen other movies in this genre too, all of which are family friendly movies. I got saved on January 3, 2020 and I started watching movies regularly in November of 2020.

Loved this clean and meaningful Western!
Cover-Lover13 October 2023
A daughter kidnapped. A hidden past revealed. A seemingly futile chance at rescue. Now, Rev. Jeremiah Jacobs and his wife Martha must overcome the lies of the past to find their Hope for the future.

"Birthright Outlaw" is a Christian Western transformation story that showcases the power of forgiveness and burying the past to rise anew.

It's effortless to connect with Reverend Jeremiah, Martha, and Hope. And a few of the secondary characters, such as Sheriff Beauchamp and Diamond, touched me just as deeply. I became invested in each of them and loved discovering what circumstances made them who they were. (And Jeff Fahey, as William "King of Hearts" Bridges, gives a compelling and believable performance!)

The film takes place in 1890 Last Chance, Arizona Territory, where life is peaceful and sweet. That is until The House Gang, known for sweeping the West with crime and chaos, kidnaps the daughter of the town Reverend. Secrets are revealed, loyalties are tested, and hope is threatened.

This film is a well-crafted Christian Western that combines suspense, action, drama, and faith. With relatable characters, a compelling plot, and a meaningful message, it is sure to leave your heart full and your soul sated.

Many thanks to Great American Pure Flix for providing a sample of the product for this review. Opinions are 100% mine.

Classic Western Feel/Suspenseful but Fun
studioonthelake5 March 2024
I loved it. Great score, great love story about marriage when things get hard. Fun moments, appropriately tense at times. Family friendly, for the most part. It has the feel of a classic western movie, including the surreal fun of criminals who are given to hypocrisy. It's faith based and the speeches about God are not cheesy or fake or wishy washy, but rather real and raw and tender. It's hard to convey faith and family in a cinematic way without it coming across shallow, and somehow the director captured it. It's not a perfect film, but it's the perfect film for me. I'm looking forward to seeing more from this director.

Splendid Family-based Western
deutero-4970330 April 2024
It is such a joy to watch a western with the qualities that made this nation great when it was. When I watch a movie like this I understand that the values that this Western propagates are not the values of the past but the only hope for our future. It has elements of confronting one's past with deliberate honesty after having been delivered to a different path than that past life, and finding grace of God waiting in the end. It is a movie that looks to the future with hope and vigorous knowledge of the birthright the movie is alluding to in Christian faith, the birthright of his kingdom come and his will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Excellent movie!

Great movie in all area's but one.
ebillbreedlove23 October 2023
The only reason it didn't receive 10 stars from me.was its use of modern bible version scripture references. This movie was authentic in so many ways; from the cinematography to the music to casting to screenplay. The only Bible version that was widely used during the timeframe and setting of the movie was the King James Bible. For that faux pas it gets only 9 stars. Whether this was intentional because of the bent of the producer or director remains to be seen.

Lucas Black and Sarah Drew's performances shined in my opinion but there were no characters in this movie that were weak. I highly recommend this movie.

What a joy it was to see a new western with a Christian theme.
