As the season of film awards and achievements heads towards the night of The Oscars, a select few and equally auspicious award ceremonies are yet to happen. Among them, the Screen Actors Guild Awards seemed to have chosen Robert Downey Jr. as their pick for the Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in Oppenheimer, a deserving accolade that almost all organizations and individuals seem to agree with.

And thus, when the star took to the stage to formally accept the award with his hands, he was sure to give credit to the recent accolades of his career to several actors he has worked with in the past. Among them, he also includes the name of Mel Gibson, the actor and filmmaker who practically brought his career on track again after he made a film that un-blacklisted the star from Hollywood.

Prepare to see the back of Elon Musk’s head: Darren Aronofsky, director of “The Wrestler” and “Black Swan,” has lined up a biopic about the Tesla founder and Twitter re-namer as his next project.
A24 will back the film, the second straight collaboration between the Oscar-winning distributor (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) and the “Requiem for a Dream” director. People familiar with the project confirmed the news Friday that was first reported by Puck.
The movie is to be based on the September release “Elon Musk” by Walter Isaacson, whose Steve Jobs biography was the basis of Danny Boyle’s Oscar-nominated “Jobs.” It will be the first straight biopic for Aronofsky, known for his darkly surreal tone and long tracking shots, filmed from behind his main characters as they walk through chaotic scenes.

Get on the phone with Ron Bernstein and he’ll happily share his views on who’s up and down at the studios — and inevitably, he’ll talk about his latest deals. On a recent call, he hyped the Redstone family power saga by James Stewart and Rachel Abrams, “Unscripted: The Epic Battle for a Hollywood Media Empire”; sure enough, within weeks it sold to producer Steven Paul, who’s developing the juicy Shakespearean drama for television.
Bernstein is Hollywood’s most respected media rights agent. He’s repped the source material for the Coen brothers’ Best Picture winner “No Country for Old Men” (Cormac McCarthy), Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” (Doris Kearns Goodwin), Danny Boyle’s “Jobs” (Walter Isaacson), and Clint Eastwood’s “Richard Jewell” (Marie Brenner).

Ashton Kutcher is shooting for a revival, it seems, reprising his role as Kelso for guest spots on That ‘90s Show and headlining his first movie in a decade. Out of the spotlight or under criticism, Kutcher maintains that his mantra is, “Invest in enduring happiness.”
Ashton Kutcher became an easy target as a doofy leading man in buddy comedies like Dude, Where’s My Car? and a series of rom-coms like Just Married (alongside Brittany Murphy), No Strings Attached (alongside Natalie Portman) and Valentine’s Day (alongside seemingly everybody). Even with dramatic turns, as in 2004’s The Butterfly Effect and 2013 biopic Jobs, Kutcher hasn’t exactly had a lot of praise thrown his way. Still, building off of his mantra and previous words of hope, it’s clear the actor is more of an inspiration that many might give him credit for.

But Kutcher couldn’t spend quality time with Jobs in the end, which he soon regretted.

Kutcher was immediately drawn to the film Jobs as soon as he read the script. This was fortunate for the film’s producer, Mark Hulme, who couldn’t imagine anyone else more ideal for the film than Kutcher.
“Since our film covers the early years of Apple, when Jobs was in his 20’s, we needed an actor who could carry not only the youthfulness of Jobs at the time but also the psychological complexity. Because of that, and Ashton’s physical similarities to Jobs, he’s perfect for our film,...

A version of this story about Nicole Byer first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Comedy issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine
There’s no such thing as being overworked if you’re Nicole Byer. But don’t worry, the comedian, television host, podcaster, guest judge, actress, voice actress, writer and executive producer, who is up for three Emmys this year, can somehow juggle it all.
“I can run on fumes,” Byer said during a break from filming one of her many projects. “I’ve been shooting two things concurrently — one is all night shoots, basically, and one is all 6 a.m. call times. Last week, there were two days where I wrapped at like 2 a.m. and then was back on set for a different thing at 6 a.m., and by the end of that, oh, boy, was I. Not. Ok. That’s probably not healthy, but it will all get done.

We hope you don’t fall for any tricks — and that you don’t take any real headline to be fake. Here are some examples of April 1 headlines that turned out to be completely real.
Singer Marvin Gaye was fatally shot by his father, Marvin Gaye Sr., on April 1, 1984. The news was so shocking and the timing so unfortunate that even Gaye’s close friend Smokey Robinson thought it was a morbid prank by the disc jockey on the radio station where he heard it.

The creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers, recently opened up to Vulture about that Stephen King reference featured in the third episode titled "Chapter Three: The Pollywog" when Bob Newby (Sean Astin) gives Will (Noah Schnapp) what turns out to be some not so great advice, but it sounds awfully familiar. Fans recently pointed it out, but now the creators of the show are opening up about it.
In the scene, Bob recalls a recurring nightmare he experienced as a child in which he was terrorized by a clown named Mr. Baldo. He even goes as far as impersonating the Clown from his nightmares which ends up sounding a lot like an impression of Tim Curry’s iconic take on Pennywise the Clown from Stephen King’s It.
During their recap Matt explained that Bob’s fear of clowns comes from their own and that they took this opportunity...

How important is resemblance, really?
As we mentioned in our newsletter yesterday, Christian Bale is reportedly in talks to star as former vice president Dick Cheney in an Adam McKay helmed biopic, alongside Amy Adams as Lynne Cheney and Steve Carrell as Donald Rumsfeld. The news, broken by Variety, has lead to a host of reactions across the internet, including a number of Dark Knight and American Psycho related jokes because, you know, duh. Front and center in many of these reactions is speculation (though in some cases, anticipatory salivation might be more accurate) over how Bale will transform for the role.
After all, Christian Bale is known for physical metamorphoses that rank just below those of caterpillars on an impressiveness scale; he famously lost 60 pounds for his role in The Machinist (bringing the 6' actor to a skeletal 120-ish pounds), and afterwards went directly to Batman Begins, eating and weight-lifting his way to 220 pounds, which...

The mythology of Steve Jobs knows no bounds. A Zen Buddhist who berated his employees, an absentee father who supported his daughter, and an underdog who spearheaded the biggest company in the world, all through the guise of glasses and a black turtleneck. Was he a good guy? Was he even a genius? Such questions have been asked time and time again, often with an ambiguous response behind them. Judge not by the warmth of the morals, but by the efficiency of the products.
These are the contradictions that drive Steve Jobs, the latest offering from director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin. Steeped in five years of heavy research, wordsmith extraordinaire Sorkin (The Social Network [2010], Moneyball [2011]) whittles down Walter Isaacson’s biography to a trio of product launches in 1984, 1988, and 1998 – blending fact and fiction to fit his be-speckled canvas.

It’s safe to say that we’re not going to see a film based on the remarkable life and career of Steve Jobs again anytime soon. Not only has Danny Boule and Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs fallen just under $10 million short of recouping its $30 million budget, despite critical acclaim, it has also grossed $15.5 million less than 2013’s much less celebrated Jobs. And that starred Ashton Kutcher. But just in case there is actually a studio out there still interested in a new Steve Jobs film, Pixar’s Ed Catmull has got a great idea for one. Catmull is very well placed to know what would make for a great Steve Jobs film, too. That’s because the current president of Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Animation Studios worked alongside the Apple icon for quite some time during the formation ...

Despite strong reviews, Danny Boyle's "Steve Jobs" film now has an air of disappointment about it following a botched release strategy which saw the film open strongly in limited release, then quickly jump wide to disastrous numbers which led to an embarassing 2,000 screen reduction last weekend.
Danny Boyle has now spoken to The BBC about what happened and says Universal should have rolled out the film more slowly: "It's very easy in hindsight, but I think it's probably that we release it too wide soon. [Universal] should have built more slowly."
Boyle admits he was disappointed the film failed to attract crowds, but wouldn't slam Universal because they supported the project when others did not: "I think [they] are genuinely very proud of the film. Yeah sure, you might have done it in a different way... But you know, you've got to get on now."

Danny Boyle has spoken out about his latest film Steve Jobs, which despite solid reviews and an early Oscar-buzz has proved a disappointment in the U.S. box office, taking just $16.9 million so far and only just topping the Ashton Kutcher-led 2013 flop, Jobs. Speaking to the BBC, the British director said he was "disappointed" that the film — which was dropped from 2,400 screens at its widest to 400 screens last weekend — failed to attract the crowds, suggesting the studio's release tactics were at fault. From the polo necks to the product launches, the Apple co-founder was compelling and complicated. Fassbender, Kate Winslet and director Danny Boyle explain how they captured his spirit in their new biopic
An advertising exec gave a revealing account of the first time his firm pitched Apple’s Think Different campaign to Steve Jobs, in 1997. They waited apprehensively as Jobs viewed the now-famous ad, where the voiceover intones, “Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers …” over a montage of portraits of great innovators: Albert Einstein, Bob Dylan, Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi, er, Richard Branson. When it finished, Jobs said he loved it but they couldn’t go with it. “People already think I’m an egotist, and putting the Apple logo up there with all these geniuses will get me skewered by the press.” After a few seconds’ pause, Jobs then said: “What am I doing?...

Coming off the worst October since 2007, the industry was looking to this weekend to turn the tide and that it did. With the release of Spectre and The Peanuts Movie, the weekend showed a 148% increase over last weekend and a 6% improvement over the same weekend last year with the top twelve making over $155 million. Of that total, 007, Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the gang accounted for 76% as November 2015 is off to a good start. Taking the number one slot is Spectre, the 24th James Bond movie and already the eighth highest grossing Bond film domestically as it brought in an estimated $73 million from 3,929 theaters. It's the second highest opening for a Bond film, $15.3 million behind the overwhelming performance of 2012's Skyfall. Internationally the film brought in $117.8 million from 77 total markets, bringing its worldwide cume to an estimated $296.1 million after ten days. There is some question as to just how well Spectre...
