HBO's House of the Dragon reaches a big turning point this weekend.
The Game of Thrones prequel will take viewers 10 years into the future, with Emma D'Arcy taking over from Milly Alcock, Olivia Cooke taking over from Emily Carey, and John Macmillan taking over for Theo Nate.
TV Fanatic got the chance to watch House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 6, and it presents a big shift in the narrative, but it's pretty seamless.
HBO dropped a sneak peek at the highly anticipated episode titled "The Princess and the Queen" on its social media channels this week.
It picks up with Rhaenyra following the birth of her son, and she's been summoned to see the Queen.
"Where are you going?" Laenor wonders.
"She wants to see him," Rhaenyra responds.
"Now? I'm coming with you," her husband says.
"I should hope so," says the princess.
"Let me take him," Laenor offers.

Yellowstone spinoff 1923 can’t come soon enough for those of us who burned through the first prequel, 1883. And in some exciting casting news, Supernatural and The Originals actor Sebastian Roché has joined the star-studded cast, which also includes Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. Already in pre-production, 1923 “focuses on the Dutton family’s next two generations as they struggle to survive historic drought, lawlessness and Prohibition, and an epidemic of cattle theft; all battled beneath the cloud of Montana’s great depression, which preceded the nation by almost a decade,” according to the series description. There is no word yet on who Roché will be portraying in this epic story, but it is reported he will have a recurring role. There were many exciting things going on in the early 20th century — the great depression! Horrible droughts! Pandemics! Not being able to consume or procure booze legally! — so even though there are no plot details available,...

Peacock has released a trailer for the new series "Vampire Academy," based on the bestselling young adult novel series of the same name by Richelle Mead. If this sounds familiar to you, it may be because the books were adapted into a 2014 film starring Zoey Deutch and Lucy Fry. The new series about St. Vladimir's Academy for vampires -- which will serve as a reboot -- comes to us from some people very familiar with the genre; Julie Plec ("The Vampire Diaries") and Marguerite Macintyre ("The Originals") will serve as showrunners and executive producers, with Plec also directing.
The lore of these novels is complex, with a rigid class structure and several types of vampires. It's the story of a powerful friendship that inspires two young women to defy the training they've received about where they belong in the world, and fight the growing threat of the Strigoi, a group...

HBO/HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys sent a memo to employees this afternoon, explaining the decision by Warner Bros. Discovery to layoff 70 employees, or 14 of his workforce, as the company restructures. The move, announced the morning, comes as Warner Bros. Discovery prepares to merge HBO Max and Discovery+ into one streamer — with the decision made to reduce redundancies in unscripted programming. But a changing business model also led to cuts in scripted children’s and family fare, casting, international and acquisitions.
“Unfortunately, the environment in which we operate is changing rapidly, and it is up to us to continue to refine our model to chart a course for long term success,” he wrote in the memo. “As you heard from David Zaslav during our last earnings call, producing top-tier HBO/Max scripted content is crucial to Wbd’s future. Part of this process involves an honest assessment of what we need moving forward.

At the end of a day that saw about 70 (14) staffers in his divisions getting laid off, Casey Bloys, Chief Content Officer for HBO & HBO Max, just sent an email to his team about the cuts as well as his new (old) senior HBO/Max scripted executive team of Amy Gravitt, Francesca Orsi and Sarah Aubrey, which includes new responsibilities for Gravitt and Aubrey.
In the memo (read it in full below), Bloys lays out the responsibilities for his top executives on the scripted and documentary side who are staying on and also highlights the accomplishments of the top executives who are leaving as a result of the layoffs: Jennifer O’Connell, Jennifer Kim; Michael Quigley and Linda Lowy.

Russian filmmakers had been doing their best to build up new international cultural relations and embed our country into a global art world. Vladimir Putin has unearthed the hatchet and buried all these efforts by our national talents.
On Feb. 24, President Putin declared war on Ukraine in all but name. But war has been waged inside Russia for years. Culture — cinema to be exact — has become a battlefield. We now have to stand up for the right to talk about issues we have been discussing for decades.
The so-called “gay propaganda” law, the infamous anti-gay legislation, has prevented LGBTQ filmmakers like me from representing my community without demeaning euphemisms. It was impossible, for example, in my country to shoot and release a series about a 15-year-old transgender girl. I’ve seen such stories seep into pitching sessions, only to be killed before getting the green light.

There’s one major absence in the race for Choice TV Fantasy Series at the 2018 Teen Choice Awards: “The Vampire Diaries.” That supernatural romance ran on the CW for eight seasons (2009-2017) and won this category seven out of the eight times it was nominated, losing only in 2016 when teens picked “Once Upon a Time” instead. But even with “The Vampire Diaries” off the air fans can still get their blood-sucking fix in this race. “Diaries” spin-off “The Originals” is nominated for the first time and could pick up where “Diaries” left off.
And this year’s “Originals” nomination came just in time. The show is currently airing its fifth and final season, which concludes on August 1. So this is the first and only opportunity fans have to reward the show in the top race. And the timing could be perfect: airing its final episodes right in the midst of voting could maximize fan turnout.
