Bill Skarsgard will return as the terrifying Pennywise in TV series Welcome To Derry, a prequel to director Andy Muschietti’s It movies.
Bill Skarsgard, who brought his singular screen presence to the role of Pennywise the Clown in director Andrew Muschietti’s It movies, is to reprise the part in an upcoming prequel TV series. According to Deadline, Welcome To Derry (said to be a working title) will explore Pennywise’s origins in 1960s Maine. The show originally began production last May, but was delayed due to that year’s Hollywood strikes.
Andy Muschietti’s 2017 and 2019 films received critical praise and did big business at the box office, with plaudits going to Skarsgard’s commitment to Pennywise, with his performance switching seamlessly between low-key eeriness and over-the-top wildness. It's impossible to overstate the popularity of "It Chapter One" and "It Chapter Two," or how Bill Skarsgård's turn as the horrifying Pennywise the Clown has become the definitive portrayal for multiple generations. Based on the terrifying novel by Stephen King, "It" and Skarsgård's ability to move his eyes independently is most certainly responsible for increased levels of coulrophobia around the globe. The otherworldly creature known as It comes in many forms, but Pennywise the Clown is undoubtedly his most famous. Since arriving in the town of Derry, Maine, It has been devouring the citizens for hundreds of years, resting for 27 years between feeding cycles.

Deadline reports that Bill Skarsgård is set to reprise his role of Pennywise the clown for the upcoming It prequel series Welcome to Derry (which may end up only being a working title).
In addition to starring in the It prequel series, Bill Skarsgård will also executive produce. When asked last year, the actor said he wasn’t involved in the series, so I think fans are relieved that he will be lending his bloodthirsty giggle to the proceedings after all. Skarsgård’s take on Pennywise was instantly iconic in my eyes, so it was hard to imagine the series either skipping the character altogether or recasting. I’m excited to see him come back.

Bill Skarsgård has established himself in Hollywood by playing sinister characters, but he'll take a crack at the anti-hero when The Crow is released later this summer.
The first images and trailer for the movie received a mixed-to-negative response from fans of the classic 1994 movie. Most of that boiled down to Skarsgård's Eric looking more like Jared Leto's Joker in 2016's Suicide Squad than Brandon Lee's iconic interpretation of the comic book character.
However, this isn't a remake, it's a reimagining of the original graphic novel by James O'Barr. And, while the character's appearance has split opinions, the R-Rated action looks undeniably badass.
Talking to Esquire (via FearHQ.com), the actor admits to being unsure about taking on The Crow's title role. "There's definitely worry about that," he says of fan expectations. "I'm trying to view the fame aspect as a challenge and navigate through it in...

When Welcome to Derry was announced, Bill Skarsgård initially stressed that he wasn’t involved with the production at the time, which will see Andy Muschietti return as one of its directors. The actor, who rose to prominence following his portrayal of the dancing clown, even lent advice on how an actor should approach the role if the prequel chooses to bring in a new actor for Pennywise.
However, following his new interview, in which the actor doesn’t rule out the idea of playing the clown again, fans are excited by the concept of Skarsgård potentially returning to the role.

Channing Dungey first joined Warner Bros. TV Group as chairman in late 2020 — right in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, which made for an interesting first year on the job. Then came the Warner Media-Discovery merger in 2022, and the restructuring that came with it. In 2023, the Hollywood strikes disrupted the business again.
“It’s been a lot of tumult since I’ve been in the role,” Dungey recently reflected to Variety. “I’m hoping — and I’m knocking wood as I say this — that as we round the corner into 2024, we’re behind some of those bigger challenges. I’m sure there will be something new on the horizon, but I’m hopeful that 2024 marks a return to business as usual.”
The entertainment industry remains in flux, of course, with more disruption anticipated this year. But in her own corner of the biz, Dungey said she feels some truly positive momentum.

I’m sure there will be something new on the horizon, but I’m hopeful that 2024 marks a return to business as usual.”

Here is a wrap-up of all the news you need to know from Wednesday, December 6, 2023.
Netflix has renewed one of its most-talked-about series of the year.
Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2 is officially in the works.
The news doesn't come as much of a surprise, given the show's impact.
Taking one of the most popular shows and making a real-life version certainly got everyone talking, but it's been interesting, albeit a little too fast-paced.
"There was no red light in our decision to greenlight Season 2 of Squid Game: The Challenge, the most ambitious unscripted show we've premiered at Netflix," Netflix VP of Nonfiction Series Brandon Riegg said in a statement about the pickup.
Squid Game: The Challenge's Unique Concept is Its Biggest Flaw
"We're so excited to continue the franchise of Squid Game with our team in Korea, and producers at Studio Lambert and The Garden for this epic competition series.

Former child star Bella Ramsey opted to stay out of the spotlight despite their scene-stealing “Game of Thrones” performance.
Ramsey, who has since become a viral star due to their turn opposite Pedro Pascal in “The Last of Us,” told Lad Bible that beginning on “GoT” at age 13 led them to be a “very private” public figure.
“I actually think that my journey through the industry has been done in a way that I’m really pleased about. Like, I think we chose the right route in terms of when ‘Game of Thrones,’ everything started coming out,” Ramsey said. “We chose the route of doing absolutely nothing, do like no interviews, give no personal information. It was so terrifying.”
Ramsey, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, continued, “My parents were so terrified that we just sort of kept everything very private, barely did any interviews, like three phone call interviews.

The television industry won’t waste any time when it comes to getting back to work following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike. With a focus on broadcast shows, prep and pre-production are well underway.
However, anxious viewers shouldn’t get too excited about their favorite scripted series coming back, as it could take more time than expected. When the writers strike ended at the end of September, the rooms opened up the following week, but that doesn’t mean that the actors can do the same.
Dick Wolf’s writers went back into their respective rooms Oct. 4, so filming could begin as early as the week after Thanksgiving, kicking off on Nov. 27. Prep could start next week, with filming underway eight or nine days later. With that schedule, a 10- to 13-episode season would be ready to debut in mid-February or March.

Film and TV cameras are finally set to roll again as SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP have reached a tentative agreement. The strike is officially over at 12:01 Am tonight, ending a six-month production pause due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA work stoppages, which eclipsed the length of the Covid-related production shutdown of 2020.
Production on returning series is now set to ramp up. Broadcast is expected to lead the way — with series going into full prep immediately — as the urgency there is the greatest.

SAG-AFTRA says it is waiting on Hollywood studios to respond to several proposals as negotiations over a new three-year labor contract continue.
The union previously stated that it had sent its latest AI proposal to the studio side Wednesday and a “comprehensive” proposal package Saturday; as of Thursday evening, union negotiators were still awaiting responses, according to the SAG-AFTRA negotiating committee.
“The Negotiating Committee was on standby today awaiting a response from the AMPTP on both the AI counter we presented yesterday, and the comprehensive counter proposal we passed across the table five days ago,” the committee said in a statement to members Thursday night.
“The ball is entirely in their court,” added one union-side source. According to the negotiating committee, work will resume on the contract Friday.
On Friday morning a studio-side source emphasized that SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP met the previous day and that both sides are currently working on all unresolved issues.

HBO programming chief Casey Bloys said on Thursday he’s already had to “adjust across the board” his slate for HBO and Max because of the impact of the recently ended writers and still-ongoing actors strikes. With SAG-AFTRA still picketing the Warner Bros. Discovery offices (and others), those adjustments are proving to be anything but final.
One-on-one with Bloys following a presentation of his 2024 slate, IndieWire asked what pending decisions still have to be made in the event a seemingly imminent SAG deal again proves elusive. Are there still potential cancellations coming? Could the axe even drop on a series previously picked up for another season? And could something as small as continuity seal the fate for a project that has sat on the shelf too long?
“All of the above,” Bloys responded. He’s been through lengthy shutdowns before; remember Covid?

The Max series Welcome to Derry, which will serve as a prequel to Warner Bros’ two-part adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel It (pick up a copy Here), went into production in Port Hope, Ontario earlier this year, aiming for a Halloween 2024 premiere. But, of course, the show’s progress has been slowed by the lengthy writers strike, which recently ended, and the ongoing actors strike. So the premiere is being pushed back a bit. Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content, has said that we probably won’t see Welcome to Derry until 2025.

The Writers Guild of America strike and the still-ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike are having an impact on the content slates for HBO and Max, but Casey Bloys, the chairman and CEO of the division, does not seem too concerned.
Bloys said that while the resolution of the strikes will affect the cost of programming, they are unlikely to change any specific green lights. That being said, he also acknowledged that his company and others are trying to figure out what the “right” amount of money to spend in streaming is.

“Euphoria” Season 3 has been slated for 2025, HBO boss Casey Bloys announced at a press event Thursday morning.
The Sam Levinson series’ title was shown in a sizzle reel that said “Coming in 2025” alongside “The Last of Us” Season 2, “The White Lotus” Season 3 and the “It” prequel series “Welcome to Derry.”
Not much else has been revealed about the upcoming third season of “Euphoria,” except for Levinson teasing in August that he views the next batch of episodes as a “film noir.” The showrunner said that through the eyes of Zendaya’s Rue, he will “explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.”
“Euphoria” stars Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Angus Cloud, Barbie Ferreira and Dominic Fike as troubled high schoolers caught up in a world of drugs, love and crime.
Eric Dane, Storm Reid, Colman Domingo, Javon Walton, Austin Abrams and Nika King also star.

Both “Welcome to Derry,” the “It” prequel series set in the universe of Stephen King, and “The White Lotus” Season 3 were delayed due to the WGA strike.
“‘Welcome to Derry,’ we had that scheduled for Halloween of ’24. That’s likely pushing into ’25. ‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 probably would have been ’24,” HBO CEO Casey Bloys said during a press event about the network’s 2024 slate. Both series are now expected to be pushed into 2025.

We now know when House of the Dragon will return — along with several other popular HBO titles.
The second season of the acclaimed Game of Thrones prequel will air in “early summer” of 2024. Season two will consist of eight episodes, two fewer than the first. Dragon is well enough along to have a first trailer, which was screened for reporters — but under the condition that its contents are not publicly described.
The announcement was made by HBO chief Casey Bloys during a press event in New York on Thursday. Bloys said the season has wrapped filming and is currently in postproduction.
In addition, Bloys revealed that Euphoria season three, The White Lotus season three and HBO’s prequel series to Stephen King’s novel It (Welcome to Derry) have all been pushed to 2025.

On the evening of Sept. 7, a flurry of headlines confirmed that Warner Bros. Television Group had suspended their deals and several others that had remained quietly active since the WGA strike began in early May. The news came as a shock to some, who hadn’t realized a cade of TV’s biggest names were still drawing a paycheck and a harbinger of coming pain for others. As one studio exec put it, “Warner Bros. just gave everyone else cover.” Added another: “We’d been waiting for someone else to go first.”
