250th episode of the series.
"Drowning the Shamrock" on St. Patrick's Day is a custom dating back to Saint Patrick (c.385-c.461) himself. The drowning of the shamrock takes place at the end of the celebrations on St. Patrick's Night when the shamrock is dunked into the last glass of whiskey then drunk during a toast to the saint. Afterwards, the plant is tossed over the left shoulder. (Other than Danny, everyone shown at the dinner table threw it over their right shoulder.)
A shamrock has three leaves and represents the Christian idea of the Trinity. A four-leaf clover cannot be a true shamrock, although it is a shamrock that grew an extra leaf. They are extremely rare, so the clovers used in this episode are likely to be Oxalis deppei from Mexico, which is sold as the "good luck plant" because all the "clovers" have four leaves.

Erin did the SMART FELLA spoonerism. Good one.
At Sunday dinner, Danny claims to have been four when Frank and Mary announced Erin's pending birth. Wahlberg is actually only one year and eight months older than Monahan.
