Will Smith had one prediction for Eminem’s explosive growth in the Hip Hop world that came true. Smith listened to Eminem’s track, Just the Two of Us, from his Slim Shady EP and shared that the rapper would become the biggest thing in Hip Hop or the biggest flop. The crazy lyrics of the song somehow connected with the audience who hailed Eminem as a musical genius.

Kevin Costner is heavily into Western drama when he’s not doing his sports drama films. The actor headlined Taylor Sheridan’s series set in a Montana ranch, Yellowstone. He’s also currently working on his two-part dream Western project, Horizon. With all his love for the cowboy genre, it would be surprising for fans to know that Costner turned down a villain role in Django Unchained.

The Quentin Tarantino film had a stellar star cast, including Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, and Samuel L. Jackson. Costner would have been an interesting addition to the film if he didn’t have to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

Jaden Smith never fails to make headlines, whether it is because of his actor father’s Oscar antics or, sometimes, his own music or acting endeavors. But it is also true that the son of Will Smith experiences highs and lows in his romantic life.

Peter Ramsey, Caleeb Pinkett Producing Live-Action Feature Adaptation Of Comic Book ‘The Storm Clan’
Exclusive: Academy Award winner Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) and former Overbook head Caleeb Pinkett (Cobra Kai) are set to produce a live-action feature adaptation of The Storm Clan, the comic book created by Dallas Jackson and Joe Casey, which marks the first title from Jackson’s new company DJ Classicz Comix.
Jackson and Casey will pen the script, with former Lionsgate exec Jorge Alfaro to serve as an EP.
A sci-fi action adventure story, The Storm Clan watches as an ex-military weapons engineer trains his five adopted children to be undercover hi-tech/martial-arts thieves wearing an invincible bionic-body armor. Previously orphaned, the teenagers gifted with bionic technology see it provide them with the opportunity to protect themselves from the threats of the streets, also empowering them to take advantage of life instead of being taken advantage of, and most importantly, giving them comfort and sense of belonging within a family.

Exclusive: John Boyega is set to headline and executive produce The Book of Eli, a TV series prequel to the 2010 post-apocalyptic action film that starred Denzel Washington in the title role, Deadline has learned. Boyega will play younger version of Washington’s Eli in the project, which hails from the movie’s writer, Gary Whitta, creator/writer/executive producer of the potential series, and its directors, the Hughes brothers, who executive produce. The film’s producer Alcon Entertainment is the studio on the TV project, which is about to be taken out to select premium buyers, I hear.
The neo-Western Book of Eli movie takes place 30 years after a nuclear catastrophe caused an ecocide. It revolves around Eli (Washington), a nomad who fights his way across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America while protecting a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity’s salvation.

One of HBO’s former hot properties returns in a big way this January, as True Detective season four finally arrives on the service. Will this be a return to form for the gritty show? Well, that remains unclear, but this time around the anthology series will follow detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) as the long winter darkness in Alaska. When eight people at the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace, these detectives need to get on the case quickly.

As the aftereffects of the writers’ and actors’ strikes hit streaming in a big way, there’s not a lot of new content to offer subscribers early in 2024. Hulu still has some interesting things to offer in January, though.
The biggest new Hulu Original series in the new year is Death and Other Details, a locked room murder mystery starring Mandy Patinkin as Rufus Cotesworth, who is said to be the world’s greatest detective – at least in this universe. In the new series, Cotesworth comes to the rescue when an unfortunate soul is killed on lavish Mediterranean ocean liner, and he has to team up with the prime suspect (Violett Beane) to solve the crime.

Among James Wan’s post-Aquaman projects is an adaptation of Hp Lovecraft’s The Call Of Cthulhu – and it’ll also be a videogame, a report suggests.
James Wan has succeeded in adding a fishy accent to the festive season with Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, out in cinemas now. But it seems Wan isn’t finished with the salty depths – among the director’s various upcoming projects is an adaptation of Hp Lovecraft’s cosmic horror story, The Call Of Cthulhu.
Deadline, which mentions this in a broader report about videogame adaptations, describes it as a ‘dream project’ for Wan, and one the filmmaker’s “been quietly working on for five years”.
Originally published in 1928, The Call Of Cthulhu is a short yet highly influential tale about a mysterious sect that worships an octopus-like deity from the depths of time and space. The story was the starting point for the wider Cthulhu Mythos,...

M. Night Shyamalan's thirty-year-plus career has gone through many highs and lows — from rising to prominence as an innovative auteur to becoming a parody of himself with a string of unsuccessful studio sludge, then experiencing a comeback through the lo-fi horror genre. Whether he's viewed as a critical darling or a critical punching bag, Shyamalan continues to deliver suspenseful stories that delve into the darkest, most emotional corners of the human psyche.
After his masterpiece "The Sixth Sense" thrust him into the spotlight, Shyamalan became synonymous with supernatural thrillers that deliver a gobsmacking twist, turning the world of the film completely upside down. But soon these astonishing final revelations became an expectation that not every film was able to deliver, even becoming ridiculously absurd.

Will Smith pitched M. Night Shyamalan ‘After Earth’ for his son’s acting career

Show business is often a family affair.
We previously explored Hollywood’s acting dynasties and now shine the spotlight on famous fathers and their lookalike sons. These sons not only take after their famous fathers in appearance, but also in profession.
Some, like “Schitt’s Creeks'” Eugene Levy and Dan Levy and “After Earth’s” Will and Jaden Smith, have played actual fathers and sons on screen. The resemblance between O’Shea Jackson Jr. and his father O’Shea Jackson aka Ice Cube, is so close that the younger Jackson portrayed his father in “Straight Outta Compton.”

A notoriously huge bomb from one of cinema's biggest stars has curiously found new life on Netflix a full decade after the film initially failed in theaters. The movie in question is 2013's "After Earth," which starred Will Smith and, his son Jaden Smith, and was directed by M. Night Shyamalan, of "The Sixth Sense" and "Split" fame, The results were nothing shy of disastrous for Sony Pictures at the time. And yet, the world of streaming has curiously given the movie new life.
The expensive sci-fi flick recently dropped on Netflix and rapidly made its way into the streamer's top ten daily charts. Stacked amongst all of the pricey, flashy, Netflix original films, a critically-panned flop is being watched more than almost anything else available on the service right now. It's a movie that even Smith, who's had far more successes than failures in his career, acknowledges as a critical misstep.

Why do so many child actors struggle? To be a good actor, you need self-awareness and empathy, and those are traits many children don't have. This makes Isabelle Fuhrman's performance in Jaume Collet-Serra's "Orphan" all the more exceptional.
In "Orphan," a Connecticut couple -- Kate (Vera Farmiga) and John (Peter Sarsgaard) -- is still reeling from the miscarriage of their third child. So, they decide to adopt. They're instantly charmed by a young Estonian girl named Esther (Fuhrman) and welcome her into their home. But Esther shows increasing sadism, culminating in the horrible truth: she's actually a 33-year-old serial killer, afflicted with hypopituitarism that prevented her body from aging with her mind.
"Orphan" -- released in 2009 -- was shot in late 2007 when Fuhrman was only 10 years old. In what was her second film appearance, she was a child playing the part of an adult who is playing the part of a child.

Night Shyamalan, known for his infamously thrilling, psychological films released his newest film ‘Knock at the Cabin’ on Friday, February 3rd. The film centers around a family with a young daughter, away on a quiet vacation to a cabin and its surrounding woods. During their stay, they are approached by a group of four strangers to take them into captivity, forcing them to choose between saving the world or saving each other. Although M. Night Shyamalan has had his experience with dark and mystifying films, this may be his most terrifying film yet. It strikes close to home on the theme of family, as well as the looming danger of an apocalypse. Let’s take a look at who M. Night Shyamalan is, what he’s known for, and the cast chosen to represent the crucial roles in this n Night Shyamalan was born in August 1970, in India. He was raised in Penn Valley,...

It’s easy to make fun of the lowlights of M. Night Shyamalan’s filmography, but his best movies are excellent genre thrillers that remain entertaining even after you know the twist. The director’s biggest hits were original ideas. But he nearly got behind the camera for an installment of a beloved franchise. In an interview promoting Shyamalan’s latest work Knock at the Cabin, Rupert Grint revealed that the filmmaker was in talks to direct one of the Harry Potter movies.

M. Night Shyamalan already has his eyes set on his next movie for Summer 2024, but in a twist worthy of one of his movies, it will come from Warner Bros. Pictures. The director and his production company Blinding Edge Pictures has signed a multi-year, first-look film deal with the studio.
It’s a big get for Warner Bros. and New Line, both of which recently have made a push to lock up other first-look deals with Akiva Goldsman, Baz Luhrmann, and “Barbarian” filmmaker Zach Cregger. What’s more, Shyamalan’s recent stretch of box office hits, including this month’s “Knock at the Cabin,” and dating back to “Split” in 2017, have all been released by Universal.
There’s no details yet for Shyamalan’s next film, titled “Trap,” but it’s set for release August 2, 2024. Warner Bros. will also release “The Watchers,” which is the directorial debut of the director’s daughter,...

After a long stint at Universal that helped reinvigorate his career, M. Night Shyamalan has found a new studio home. The filmmaker and his Blinding Edge Pictures have inked a multi-year, first-look deal with Warner Bros.
The studio has already set a date for his next feature, Trap, which will open Aug. 2, 2024.
Under the deal, Shyamalan will develop projects for Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line, which recently acquired The Watchers. He will produce the feature that is to be written and directed by his middle daughter, Ishana Night Shyamalan.
Shyamalan reinvented himself with his work at Universal, which distributed The Visit, the 2015 found-footage horror film that earned 98 million on a 5 million budget. It was the start of a fruitful relationship for the studio and the filmmaker, who had entered a fallow period after a series of big budget bombs, including The Last Airbender and After Earth.

One of my favorite genres also happens to be one of the least appreciated — horror. I’m sure philosophers and therapists can offer endless theories on why we love being scared, but it’s safe to say that horror films offer an experience like no other… when done correctly. Of course, it’s also one of the hardest genres to get just right, and a performance in the medium can make or break the movie. We’ve all seen those films or performances that walk a fine line between absolutely horror and unintentional comedy.

This article contains mild Knock at the Cabin spoilers.
“Don’t you look away.”
That’s the one command a soon-to-be-executed man makes before he sacrifices himself in an attempt to prevent the apocalypse in Knock at the Cabin, the latest from director M. Night Shyamalan. It’s grim stuff, but nasty, ludicrous premises such as these have become the norm for Shyamalan, especially over the past decade. Ever since the once vaunted director’s Hollywood career stalled with famous flops The Last Airbender and After Earth, Shyamalan has found his footing again with a series of nasties, including the found-footage cheapie The Visit and the wonderfully ridiculous Old.
Despite what Newsweek proclaimed in a 2002 cover story (timed with the release of Signs), Shyamalan never became the next Steven Spielberg, especially when the genuine article is still making excellent movies well into his 70s. Instead Shyamalan has become something else—and something far more interesting.

From his early success with “The Sixth Sense” and “Unbreakable” to his mid-2000s dry spell that included “After Earth” and “The Last Airbender,” M. Night Shyamalan’s roller coaster of a career has taken him through every level of Hollywood. The multi-hyphenate has found renewed success in recent years directing mid-budget genre films like “Old” and “Knock at the Cabin,” but that doesn’t mean he’s stopped thinking about some of the bigger projects that he flirted with over the years. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Shyamalan reflected on some of the projects that he came close to directing over the course of his three decade career.
“I loved the book ‘Life of Pi,’ and I was going to make it. But Ang Lee made a beautiful movie from it. That was one that I wished I did,” Shyamalan said. “In between the first two...

M. Night Shyamalan is a name that is downright synonymous with moviegoing. The filmmaker's career began by being shot out of a cannon, with his studio feature directorial debut, 1999's "The Sixth Sense," becoming an absolute sensation that set sky-high expectations for him. Some even called him the next Steven Spielberg. No pressure!
That's not exactly how things panned out. While Shyamalan did have several other hits with "Unbreakable" and "Signs," even by 2004's "The Village," the whole "where's the twist?" thing had started to catch up to him. The burden of audience expectations was, fair or not, being placed heavily upon his shoulders.
Things really started going sideways with the widely-panned "The Happening," which was followed by his big-budget, back-to-back bad...

The Pitch: When you think of divisive filmmakers, M. Night Shyamalan might come to mind. Sure, many of his movies have been critically and commercially successful, but the mid-career lull he experienced in the late 2000s and early 2010s cast a negative light on his reputation for a while. Thankfully, he's back in the good graces of Hollywood, and just recently unleashed "Knock at the Cabin" into theaters.
However, it's time that we turn back the clock to 2008. Many might attribute this period as being the turning point of Shyamalan's career due to a little movie called "The Happening." This sci-fi horror flick certainly had an intriguing premise: the world...

The following post contains spoilers for nine M. Night Shyamalan movies, including "Knock at the Cabin."
Many casual fans don't know this, but "The Sixth Sense" wasn't M. Night Shyamalan's first feature film. It was his third, after "Praying with Anger" and "Wide Awake," but it defined his reputation as a maker of eerily quiet, slow-paced thrillers with a "Twilight Zone" vibe and (usually) big twists at the end. Initially, this formula was so successful that some began referring to Shyamalan in the same sentence as Steven Spielberg, but then he took some bigger swings — without the twists — and things didn't work out so well. So, after being humbled by big-budget disappointments like "The Last Airbender" and "After Earth," Shyamalan went back to basics, making films with lower budgets, more suspenseful plots, and yes, big twists. Of late, he's taken to adapting books and actually changing the endings, surprising readers...

He’s king of the twist, master of tension, and sometimes wildly inconsistent in his output – but at his best, M. Night Shyamalan and stripped-back superhero fare, Shyamalan is as unpredictable as many of his movies’ final acts.
With new existential thriller Knock At The Cabin, the director trades in big twists for tight, truly affecting filmmaking. As the film arrives in cinemas, Empire has wrangled all of Shyamalan’s major movie releases into an official ranking – have a read below:
13. The Last Airbender (2010)
This adaptation of the beloved animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender did not, it’s fair to say, connect in the way that everyone hoped. The story follows Aang (Noah Ringer), a child “avatar” able to channel the four elements, who became frozen in a block of ice and doomed the four nations to fall out of harmony – until he’s thawed out and forced to confront his destiny.

It has been noted that new age master of suspense-wannabe M. Night Shyamalan has basically gone downhill since his heady beginnings with the Oscar-nominated classic, The Sixth Sense, then pretty good follow-ups like Signs and Unbreakable. Even detours in split-personality hits like Split, and Glass — the latter successful enough to let Universal trust him with small enough budgets to take a few more swings — or the intriguing Twilight Zone-ish film Old, that unfortunately wore out its welcome after a promising start, bolster that notion.
Movies like Lady In The Water, The Visit, Last Airbender, The Happening, The Village, and After Earth are better left forgotten.
Now we have Knock At The Cabin, a home invasion thriller that mixes its premise up with a pretty far-fetched, Biblical apocalyptic plot line that ratchets up the tension, but could use a little more credibility. As in every Shyamalan picture, you expect some sort of twist,...

Following the twin disasters of After Earth and The Last Airbender around a decade ago, M. Night Shyamalan has been on something of a career rebound in the last eight years, with successful films like The Visit and Split, plus the hit Apple TV+ show Servant, to his credit. Shyamalan’s work can be an acquired taste, and even among his fans his output can be hit and miss (like 2021’s divisive Old), but his new film, Knock at the Cabin, is easily his strongest effort since the still-potent Split and may yet end up on the top shelf of his 15 feature films to date.
Based on the novel The Cabin at the End of the World by acclaimed horror writer Paul Tremblay (marking only the third time since The Last Airbender that Shyamalan has adapted previously existing material), Knock at the Cabin offers the kind of semi-Hitchcockian premise and setup that Shyamalan usually relishes.

Indian-American director M. Night Shyamalan is one of our most divisive modern auteurs. When he first stepped onto the film scene in 1999 with the twisty psychological horror "The Sixth Sense," he quickly was accepted as a new, emerging voice in Hollywood. Entering the industry at just 28 years old, Shyamalan built a career off of high critical praise and goodwill through a streak of mid-budget thrillers that would blossom into polarizing higher-budget fare. No matter your opinion of the filmmaker, never once in Shyamalan's career has he ever played it safe.
Haunted by the back-to-back box-office and critical failures of his controversial blockbuster film adaptation of the popular cartoon show, "Avatar: The Last Airbender," and his lofty sci-fi Will and Jaden Smith star vehicle, "After Earth," many mainstream studios were not willing to take the risk of working with Shyamalan and risk a poor reputation. Shyamalan had essentially found himself blacklisted from the industry.

Ever since the success of "The Visit," M. Night Shyamalan has entered a wonderful return to form, stepping away from his lofty blockbuster fare and focusing on lower-budget, back-to-basics thrillers. Next month, Shyamalan continues to further his unique skill of building atmosphere and suspense with "Knock at the Cabin." Based on the novel, "The Cabin at the End of the World," by Paul Tremblay, the film follows two dads and their daughter (Kristen Cui) who find themselves hostage by a group of mysterious doomsday theorists while on a family vacation.
Continuing his momentum from 2021's "Old," Shyamalan also shot his newest film on 35mm and '90 school lenses — moving away from his switch to digital ever since "After Earth."
In the January 2023 issue of Total Film Magazine, Shyamalan explained why he still prefers the unpredictable nature of shooting on film:

As every Hollywood publicist knows, controlling the narrative is the secret to success. When presumptive Best Actor winner Will Smith smacked Chris Rock across the face on the Oscars stage everyone lost that control, including Smith. “It was like someone poured concrete in that room,” producer Will Packer said on Good Morning America on Friday, in his own bid to claw back some of that power. “It sucked the life out of that room and it never came back.”

Then the actor reconsidered his career objectives, realizing how important box office was to longevity, and researched what ingredients were necessary to turn movies into blockbusters. It worked.
Over the following decade, the vast majority of the movies he starred in met those requirements — high budget, high concept projects, typically released in the summer, with the potential to make a lot of money: the “Men in Black” and “Bad Boys” franchises,...
