Ed Burns, whose debut film The Brothers McMullen premiered at the 1995 Sundance Film Festival, was announced today as a jury member for next month’s Sundance in Park City, Utah. Burns joins documentary filmmaker Davis Guggenheim, executive Tom Rothman and 16 others named to five juries that will award prizes at independent film’s most high-profile showcase.
Short Film Awards will be announced at a ceremony on Jan. 22, with feature film awards announced at a separate ceremony on Jan. 26. The festival runs this year from Jan. 17-27.

[1] Whether or not the name Jake Szymanski rings a bell, odds are you're familiar with some of his work. The rising director's built up a reputation over the past few years helming some of the most popular shorts on Adam McKay and Will Ferrell's Funny or Die website, including "Forehead Tittaes w/ Marion Cotillard," "Betwixt the Music: Rebecca Black," and "Rachel Bilson's Deleted Sex Scene." Now Szymanski is in talks to direct the Fox 2000 comedy He's Fuckin' Perfect, from McKay and Ferrell's Gary Sanchez Productions. The script, which landed on the 2011 Black List, comes from McKay's former assistant Lauryn Kahn. The news isn't all happy, though. Emma Stone, who entered talks [2] to star several weeks ago, is now said to be "unlikely" to board the project. More details after the jump. Adam McKay and Will Ferrell are a powerhouse team of funny. Together, they launched Funny or Die, which was the watershed moment when viral video met Hollywood hilarity. Together, they've gotten actors, actresses, and "personalities" like Paris Hilton to make fun of themselves and each other in. Take the bizarre and hilarious video Forehead Tittaes, which shows Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard donning a pair of prosthetic breasts on her forehead. And talk about kids behaving badly, one of their first videos was "The Landlord," starring Will Ferrell as a tenant behind on his rent and McKay's toddler as a drunk, abusive landlord. That one left us all scratching our heads at the office. Funny or Die even landed its own TV show on HBO, which was a groundbreaking move for the network. (Successful? Tbd. Unique? Yes.)
