- The son of an ex-military man begins a killing spree directed at police officers and Luther is sent to investigate. He finds out both father and son are ex-military and that the father, who is in jail, is using the son to bargain for a lesser sentence.
Meanwhile, Alice starts an investigation of her own, focusing her attention on Luther's inaction to help Henry Madsen. She threatens Zoe, Luther's separated wife. Luther encourages Zoe to lay low for a while, but she does not listen and eventually Alice turns up for a chat. While Alice harms no one physically, she scares Zoe but they both find answers to questions about what John did. Alice finds the fact that Zoe still loves John, even though Zoe believes John to be responsible for Henry Madsen's current condition.
Luther uses some non-standard techniques to finally confront the son, Owen, and arrest him - but not after a few rounds of Russian Roulette.
The episode ends with Luther meeting up with Alice and informing her that she's to stay away from Zoe for good, otherwise, he'll kill her. They get coffee.
