Back in 2020, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia made his feature directorial debut (after a couple decades of making short films) with the thriller The Platform, which was released through the Netflix streaming service. You can read my very positive review of that film at This Link, but the gist of it is that I was very impressed and was left eager to see what Gaztelu-Urrutia would make next. He was assembling a film called Rich Flu before the strikes last year, but it turns out that the next movie we’ll see from him is a sequel to his debut, The Platform 2. This one will also be making its way out into the world through Netflix, and today a pair of first look images have arrived online to give us a glimpse at what The Platform 2 has in store for us. You can take a look at those at the bottom of this article.

On April 5th, 20th Century Studios gave a theatrical release to The First Omen, which serves as a prequel to the 1976 horror classic The Omen (watch it Here) – and the movie was surprisingly well-received, with JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray giving it an 8/10 review and Tyler Nichols writing an article about why it works so well. The movie hasn’t been burning up the box office charts; made on a budget of $30 million, it has only pulled in $36 million so far. But if a sequel were to get the greenlight, director Arkasha Stevenson knows one subject she would want to cover in the follow-up: the mystery of the jackal.
In the original The Omen, we were told that the Antichrist was born of a jackal. The First Omen digs deeper into his parentage, letting us know that it wasn’t quite as simple (although very strange) as it appeared to be in the original movie,...

“I’m Nevenka,” a Movistar Plus+ original film and the awaited next feature from Spain’s Iciar Bollaín, has closed its earliest pre-sales, struck by Film Factory Entertainment, including a bellwether deal in France.
The deals come as “I’m Nevenka” has wrapped production, shooting in the Basque city of Bilbao before transferring to rural Zamora, western Spain.
Daniel Chabannes’ Epicentre Films, a classic 30-year-old distributor and producer of non-English language art pics, especially from Europe and Latin America, whose recent acquisitions take in San Sebastian Gold Shell winner “The Rye Horn” and Amos Gitai’s “It’s Not Over,” has acquired French rights.
A distributor of both big Cannes winners – “Triangle of Sadness,” “Rosetta,” “The Child” – and slightly more out-there propositions, such as Pablo Berger’s silent movie “Blancanieves,” Xenix Film Distribution has clinched rights to Switzerland.

Exclusive: Netflix doubled its Spanish TV originals last year and premiered more from the UK and Japan as U.S. content now represents less than half of its library, according to a report from media analyst Enders Analysis seen by Deadline.
Enders’ research, which found Netflix had 300 more hours of TV last year than in 2021, flagged how hours of Spanish content rose from 64 to 123, while Japan increased from 60 to 109 and the UK from 60 to 92.
In Spain, the country that produced La Casa de Papel, one of Netflix’s most successful non-English language titles of all time, shows such as supernatural thriller The Girl in the Mirror were launched.
U.S. content increased by a far smaller amount proportionally, rising by 5 to 801 hours, and less than half of Netflix’s TV content library is now made up of American content – a significant milestone demonstrative of the global nature of the TV industry.

Fifth Season Co-CEO Chris Rice has said the pressure on media stocks is creating a by-product for globally-minded production companies: more co-production opportunities.
“Public media stocks are down 40-ish since the start of the year and that’s created some pressure,” he said. “We’ve all seen the pressure on media companies, but for us, we see that as much as an opportunity as a challenge.
“I don’t think we will see a collapse in shows being bought. It’s strange to hear a Brit being optimistic but we feel unbelievably excited by what challenge can bring to the market and what that can mean for co-productions with networks who were before looking to fully own something.

In “Alma Viva,” Portugal’s Oscar entry which is currently screening in main competition at the Marrakech Film Festival, it’s Summer, time for Salomé to visit her beloved grandma Avo in North East Portugal.
Ever since they moved to France with her mom, she comes back every year. Avo is revered in the village, but also feared. Some consider her a witch. Grandma’s connection with spirits and the dead fascinates Salomé. But the summer idyll is over when Avo, a diabetic who for years self-medicated with herbs and spells, suddenly dies.
While raging fires enclose the area, the family and neighbors struggle to find unity in mourning.
Sold by Kinology Films, “Alma Viva” marks the feature debut of experienced documentarian Cristèle Alves Meira, shot in the village of her mother and maternal grandmother.
“It is a region [left] deserted by the massive exodus of its population abroad or to cities.

Endeavor Content has got a new name.
The company has rebranded to Fifth Season following Korean studio Cj Enm’s 785M deal to acquire an 80 stake.
It comes after the Korean media giant, which was behind films such as Oscar-winner Parasite, closed the deal to acquire the stake from Endeavor in January.
Endeavor Content was formed in 2017 from the production, sales, and distribution assets within Endeavor, WME, and Img.
The move was expected as it doesn’t make sense to have a brand named after a 20 minority owner and the hope is that the rebrand will eliminate any remaining confusion over the company now known as Fifth Season’s ties to the parent company of talent agency WME.
The rebrand is effective today, September 7.

Just a few months ago, Netflix appeared to be on a very rough track. Then Stranger Things season 4 came around and led to a less-apocalyptic-than-expected Q2 earnings report for the streamer. With its new releases for August 2022, however, Netflix is going to have to find another hit to keep the good vibes rolling. Here are some of their best options.
