Currently in the frontrunner position is Jodie Foster (“True Detective: Night Country”), who has yet to even be nominated for an acting Emmy at this point in her 55-year career.

Its previous three acting notices went to inaugural season costars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey (who competed for Best Drama Actor in 2014) and third season lead Mahershala Ali (2019).
Hoping to soon achieve second wins in this category are Claire Danes (“Full Circle”; formerly of “Temple Grandin”), Kate Winslet (“The Regime”; “Mildred Pierce” and “Mare of Easttown”), Julianne Moore (“Mary & George”; “Game Change”), Nicole Kidman (“Expats”; “Big Little Lies”), and Amanda Seyfried (“The Crowded Room...

Claire Danes is reuniting with Homeland co-creator and showrunner Howard Gordon for the Netflix limited series The Beast in Me. Described as a mystery thriller, the limited series was created by Gabe Rotter (The X-Files) and has Gordon attached as showrunner and executive producer.

Claire Danes gives an over-the-shoulder moment while hitting the carpet at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday (January 15) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Fox is expanding the Season 2 cast for Alert: Missing Persons Unit, from John Eisendrath and Jamie Foxx. Alisha-Marie Ahamed (Family Law) is joining as a new series regular and Gil Bellows (Ally McBeal) has been tapped to heavily recur opposite Scott Caan and Dania Ramirez in the procedural drama.
Written by Eisendrath, Alert is set in the Philadelphia Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit (Mpu). Each episode features a heart-pounding, life-or-death search for a missing person headed by detectives Jason Grant (Caan) and Nikki Batista (Ramirez). Together with the Mpu team, their job is to find the missing or abducted and reunite them with their loved ones. Jason and Nikki, once married, have a very personal connection to these cases as their own young son went missing and was never found. Exclusive: Two months after Julia Ormond sued CAA, Disney and Harvey Weinstein for negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, battery and more over an alleged 1995 sexual assault by the now incarcerated Weinstein, the agency and the Bob Iger-led corporation say they shouldn’t be a part of the suit and want out.
“Accepting the allegations in the Complaint as true, Harvey Weinstein’s alleged misconduct is disturbing and deplorable,” a filing Tuesday by Disney’s New York lawyers Cravath, Swaine & Moore asserts of Ormond’s October 4 complaint. “But the question is whether Plaintiff’s allegations are sufficient to state a claim for negligent supervision against Twdc,” it adds, in respect to the company’s ownership of the Weinstein’s’ Miramax from 1993-2010.
“They are not, with respect to any of the four elements of that cause of action. Therefore, Twdc respectfully requests that the single claim against it be...

Two years ago, “Succession” earned all of its first three Best TV Drama Actor SAG Award nominations at once and thus made history as the first series to take up that many slots in one of said category’s annual lineups. Unfortunately, Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, and Jeremy Strong all ended up losing that contest to Lee Jung-jae (“Squid Game”), but each now has a final chance at redemption. In fact, Gold Derby’s SAG Awards odds indicate that the concluded HBO program is on the verge of racking up an unprecedented four individual male bids in 2024, with a five-slot sweep also well within the realm of possibility.
More than three-quarters of our SAG Awards predictors are backing Culkin in this year’s drama actor race, while his on-screen sister, Sarah Snook, has even more support in the corresponding female category. Our current male top five further includes Strong as...

Actress Julia Ormond, best known for her work in Legends of the Fall, Temple Grandin and The Walking Dead: World Beyond, is taking a stance and making a point by suing two major studios and one of the industry’s leading casting agencies over an alleged sexual assault by Harvey Weinstein back in 1995.
As noted in a statement issued by Julia Ormond, the Emmy-winning actress said that she holds Disney, Miramax and Creative Arts Agency (Cca) accountable for covering up the alleged incident, in which Weinstein forced himself upon her. It should be noted that the official filing does not name former Disney heads Michael Eisner and Jeffery Katzenberg but the suit itself does.
In the statement, Julia Ormond said, “After living for decades with the painful memories of my experiences at the hands of Harvey Weinstein, I am humbled and grateful to all those who have risked speaking out…...

Upon its August 2023 premiere, the Amazon Prime Video original film “Red, White & Royal Blue” quickly gained a massive audience, a large portion of which reportedly created new subscriptions just so they could view it. Now, the two-hour adaptation of Casey McQuiston’s 2019 novel of the same name is set to embark on a 2024 TV awards run that, of course, won’t include the delayed 75th Emmys but could more than reasonably begin with the 81st Golden Globes. If it does make its way into the upcoming Best Limited Series/TV Movie lineup, it will be the first one-off film in seven years to earn Golden Globes recognition as a general program.
Directed and co-written by Tony winner Matthew López (“The Inheritance”), “Red, White & Royal Blue” stars Taylor Zakhar Perez (“The Kissing Booth” franchise) and Nicholas Galitzine (2021’s “Cinderella”) as two fictional world leaders’ offspring whose bitter rivalry unexpectedly evolves into a romance.

It’s pretty common for limited series to be Emmy-nominated for both writing and directing, as demonstrated by current dual contenders “Beef” and “Fleishman Is in Trouble,” plus “The White Lotus” and the four 2022 shows it knocked out twice. The same cannot be said, however, for TV movies, which compete directly against non-continuing series in the composite Best Movie/Limited Writing and Directing categories. Prior to this year, no telefilm had achieved this nomination combo since 2014, but Hulu’s “Prey” just closed the gap, signaling a return to form for the genre.
“Prey,” which premiered in August 2022, is also gunning for the Best TV Movie Emmy and picked up bids for its sound editing, picture editing and music composition. Set in 18th century North America and featuring a primarily Indigenous cast, it serves as a prequel to the 1987 theatrical horror film “Predator,” which is now the nexus of a seven-part franchise.

Claire Danes seems en route to her 10th Emmy nomination — and eighth for acting — for her turn on the FX limited series “Fleishman Is in Trouble.” Danes sits in second place in the Best Limited/TV Movie Supporting Actress odds, and a win would not only give her a fourth Emmy, but it would make her one of nine women to win both limited/TV movie acting categories.
A two-time Best Drama Actress champ for “Homeland,” Danes took home her first Emmy in Best Limited/TV Movie Actress for the HBO film “Temple Grandin” in 2010. She’s never been nominated in supporting for a limited series or TV movie, so “Fleishman” will represent the first chance she has to complete the set.

Richard Johns, producer and founder of Argo Films, and US director E. Elias Merhige, who first collaborated on Shadow Of The Vampire in 2000, have launched UK-based Promethean Pictures and have a slate of film and TV projects in development.
A survival story called Howl is in advanced development, to be directed by Merhige. It is the story of a family dog left at home during an extreme winter after his owners die in a car crash. Told from the dog’s point of view, he goes through a rollercoaster survival ride,...

Since her work on “The Dropout” has already brought her an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a Critics Choice Award, Amanda Seyfried only needs a Screen Actors Guild Award in order to complete her major industry TV prize sweep. Based on the fact that no woman who has been nominated for all four awards and won the Emmy first has failed to win the other three, her path to victory is arguably clearer than that of any other 2023 SAG Award contender. If she is successful on this final bid, she will be the 12th woman to win both a lead Emmy and a SAG Award for the same TV movie or miniseries performance.
Lead actresses make up the largest subset of non-continuing program Emmy-to-sag Award champions, followed by lead actors with seven examples, supporting actors with three, and supporting actresses with two. The group of female stars Seyfried is looking...

Much like Moira Rose, the newly-impoverished socialite and former soap opera star she played on “Schitt’s Creek,” actress and comedienne Catherine O’Hara is a woman of many talents. Though she is most well known for her comedic roles, she is also a skilled dramatic actress and a gifted writer. One of her most unique skills, which is showcased brilliantly in her Pop TV series, is her ability to capture a character’s bizarre manner of speaking in a way that is both hilarious but also believable. O’Hara’s long and varied career is captured in our gallery of her greatest film roles.
Like many of her contemporaries, O’Hara got her start on the Canadian sketch TV show “Sctv,” for which she won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing For a Variety Series. She has appeared in several films from director Tim Burton, and she has become a part of...

Within the last quarter century, a total of 11 pairs and two trios of cast mates have been nominated against each other for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best TV Movie/Miniseries Actress. The most recent dual nominees were “Mare of Easttown” actresses Jean Smart and Kate Winslet, the latter of whom became the fifth woman to triumph here over a costar by taking the 2022 prize. This precedent had been set 18 years earlier by Meryl Streep (“Angels in America”; over Mary-Louise Parker and Emma Thompson).
At this point, the only actress who has been involved in at least two of this category’s costar battles is Jessica Lange. However, nominees Catherine O’Hara and Reese Witherspoon were later involved in similar situations in other solo TV categories. The former nabbed a comedy trophy against her on-screen “Schitt’s Creek” daughter, Annie Murphy, in 2021, while the latter contended against her “The Morning Show” costar,...

Claire Danes has a lot to celebrate during her night at the Golden Globes on Tuesday, Jan. 10. The occasion marked her first public appearance since news broke on Jan. 9 that she and husband Hugh Dancy are expecting their third child. Danes, who's nominated at the ceremony for her role in FX's "Fleishman Is in Trouble," glowed in a sparkling white dress that showed her small baby bump as she posed on the carpet.
Danes and Dancy are parents to two children: Cyrus, 10, and Rowan, 4. The pair met back in 2006 on the set of the movie "Evening" and married three years later, in 2009. They live primarily in New York's West Village and are often spotted out and about with their family like average New Yorkers.
This year, Danes's Globes nomination marks the sixth time she's been nominated at the ceremony. She's won a staggering four times before: in 1995 for "My So-Called Life,...

Months after achieving what was widely considered an easy Primetime Emmy win for Hulu’s “The Dropout,” Amanda Seyfried is now poised to sail through the rest of this awards season as the recipient of every major Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress prize. By the end of February, she can pick up Golden Globe, Critics Choice and Screen Actors Guild trophies for her portrayal of biotech fraudster Elizabeth Holmes and thus emulate five other women who have each collected all four pieces of hardware for a single non-continuing program performance.
The very first Critics Choice Award for Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress was bestowed upon Julianne Moore in 2012 for her work as Sarah Palin in “Game Change.” She then similarly triumphed at the Emmys, Golden Globes and SAG Awards over the next seven months. She remains the only woman to receive all four of these awards for a...

In the 28-year history of the Screen Actors Guild Awards, 11 series have each received two Best TV Comedy Actress nominations at once, with the most recent case having involved “Ted Lasso” cast mates Juno Temple and Hannah Waddingham. The category outpaces most of the guild’s other five individual TV ones in that regard, but remains the only one in which no costar trios have ever been simultaneously recognized. That gap could soon be filled, however, by the ladies of ABC’s “Abbott Elementary.”
“Abbott Elementary” creator Quinta Brunson stars on the ABC series as second grade teacher Janine Teagues and is supported by Sheryl Lee Ralph as veteran educator Barbara Howard and Janelle James as their inept principal, Ava Coleman. Gold Derby’s SAG Awards predictions indicate that all three women will earn Best TV Comedy Actress notices for their work on the show’s first two seasons. They...

Over the past seven years, Patricia Arquette has pulled off the impressive feat of scoring three Golden Globe wins in as many acting categories. After first being honored with the 2015 Best Film Supporting Actress prize for “Boyhood,” she received two television trophies for her work on the limited series “Escape at Dannemora” and “The Act”. Now, her dramatic performance on Apple TV+’s “Severance” could lead to her second supporting TV victory, which would make her only the fourth actress to ever achieve four Golden Globe wins in less than a decade.
Discounting non-competitive awards, the first woman to become a four-time acting Golden Globe champ in under 10 years was Helen Hunt. Her 1998 Best Film Actress win for “As Good As It Gets” was preceded by a trio of Best TV Comedy Actress triumphs for “Mad About You” (1994-1995; 1997). Her record of four victories across a four-year span was later matched by Sarah Jessica Parker,...

Nearly a quarter century into her acting career, Amanda Seyfried has received just one SAG Award nomination, which she shared with her fellow “Les Misérables” ensemble members. According to Gold Derby’s SAG Awards predictions, Seyfried is in a secure first place position in this season’s Best TV Movie/Limited Actress race. “Squid Game” star Lee Jung-jae has pulled off a huge win at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, taking down three “Succession” stars in the process. (See our TV winners live blog.) The actor took home the victory in Best TV Drama Actor over “Succession” stars Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong, in addition to Billy Crudup from “The Morning Show.” By winning over a trio, Lee accomplished what only one actor has done before in the history of the SAG Awards.
Looking back on the history of the SAG Awards, there was only one instance where three actors from the same show were nominated together but none of them won the category: TV Comedy Actor in 2004, where the “Everybody Loves Raymond” trio of Peter Boyle, Brad Garrett and Ray Romano all lost to Tony Shalhoub in “Monk.”

This drama actress victory came just two years after she bagged her first statuette for the TV movie “Temple Grandin.” To date, she remains the only woman to have achieved this feat, but she could soon be joined by another. This depends on if previous drama actress champ Sandra Oh pulls off her third solo win for the comedy series “The Chair” this year.
Oh’s challengers in the comedy actress contest are Elle Fanning (“The Great”), Jean Smart (“Hacks”), and “Ted Lasso” pair Juno Temple and Hannah Waddingham. All four are new to the category, like Oh, and each received one TV ensemble nomination prior to this year. Fanning, Temple, and Waddingham all vied for the 2021 comedy cast prize for these same series but lost...

Over the first 28 years of the Screen Actors Guild Awards, 13 pairs or trios have received nominations for the same TV movie or limited series. The ones who set this precedent were “A Cooler Climate” costars Judy Davis and Sally Field, who both vied for the 2000 Best TV Movie/Mini Actress prize against eventual winner Halle Berry (“Introducing Dorothy Dandridge”).
Since then, only four of the actresses placed in these situations have pulled off victories, leaving current contenders Jean Smart and Kate Winslet (“Mare of Easttown”) with just a 33% chance of doing so. Smart and Winslet’s challengers are Jennifer Coolidge (“The White Lotus”), Cynthia Erivo (“Genius: Aretha”), and Margaret Qualley (“Maid”).
Judging by this category’s past eight instances of double or triple losses, it is most beneficial for someone nominated here against a set of costars to be younger than at least one of them. This has applied in...

At the Screen Actors Guild Awards, it is relatively rare that three actors from the same TV show get nominated in the same category. Since the inception of the SAG Awards in 1994, it only happened seven times for the first 27 years. At the upcoming 2022 ceremony, there is an eighth trio that joins this elusive group — Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong from HBO’s “Succession,” who are all nominated in the drama actor category. But can one of them overcome possible vote-splitting and take home the trophy? Let’s take a look back at the previous seven examples of SAG Awards nominated trios.
See SAG Awards TV nominations: ‘Succession’ and ‘Ted Lasso’ lead with 5 followed by ‘The Morning Show,’ ‘Squid Game’ …
The first instance of three actors nominated in the same TV category was “The Sopranos” at the 2000 kudos, with Edie Falco, Lorraine Bracco and Nancy Marchand all getting into the drama actress race.
