A fine framework on which to hang sparkling and pleasing dialogue
deickemeyer29 January 2016
The Rex Company has some strong players. These worked hard to evoke comedy as they pictured this situation, but the laughing joys didn't come very often. The play has a very good plot, a fine framework on which to hang sparkling and pleasing dialogue. The Rex players made the situation adequately clear; but the spectators laughed only three times. The husband's friend, the commercial traveler, was the only actor who made those who watched the picture at the 14th Street Theater laugh. They laughed, not when the strong-armed girl knocked him down, but when he got up smiling. The second time was not when the wife's friend slapped him, but when he took it as a joke. The third laugh came in the last act, in the house, when the husband's friend was afraid that the wife's friend was about to, literally, "hand him another." Yet the picture was made in the Rex style, which is very good. There is a quality in Rex pictures that puts the poorest of them in the distinguished class. - The Moving Picture World, June 3, 1911
