Above-average commercial, not only because of the stars

"Daniel Craig vs James Bond" is a British/Italian co-production from 2020, namely a commercial for beer company Heineken. It runs for slightly over two minutes and as you can see from the title, this is all about 007. Actually, it is not the first time that Craig acts for this alcoholic beverage manufacturer. But if the outcome is the way it is here, I am all for it. First things first though: The director is Miles Jay and no problem if you have never heard the name. Neither have I. The most known stuff he has worked on so far was a Jay-Z music video that is considerably longer than his effort here. The female in here, i.e. the Bond Girl if you want to call her that (the credits do), is Blanca Parés and she may have a solid career ahead. I saw her in an Almodóvar film a while ago too. But now back to this one here. Bond proves out fairly clumsy here, or actually that is not correct as Craig is not playing Bond here, but just mistaken by everybody for Bond. With the "clumsy" I am talking about a scene when he forgets his passport in a taxi and does all he can to find the pretty hot driver played by the actress I mentioned before. So if we are very strict, she is also more of a Craig Girl and not a Bond girl. Then again, everybody (includingf herself) mistakes Craig for Bond in this movie. This is a running gag that also results in the film's funniest moment, namely when we have a guy see Craig running and says "James Bond" and the actor turns out to be too slow (of course, let's be realistic here) and then the observer says "Not James Bond". That was hilarious and I burst into laughter for a second. Then again, I am a huge James Bond fan anyway and I guess those who aren't will not be as amazed by this scene as I was. It's alright. Overall not much hesitation for me in giving this one a thumbs-up. Many commercials can learn from the humor in here and you don't need Daniel Craig in your cast list for that. Obviously it's not hurting either though. Also the inclusions of Heineken (once at the very start, then a truck in the middle of the film and finally Craig having his deserved beer) ere also not uninspired or forced, but felt fine and as I totally don't drink beer, that means something coming from me. This film is a nice little distraction from all the mess going on in the world right now and we have to wait for a few more months now because of the Corona crisis until Craig's (most likely) final Bond movie is released and this one we have here makes the gap a little shorter. Thumbs up.
