Although Channing Tatum is considered one of the best-looking actors in modern Hollywood, there’s more to him than just his pleasant appearance.
After he struggled to find a job in his twenties, Tatum eventually stumbled into the acting world by chance, leading to a fruitful and prolific career.

Often typecast as the “dumb but good-looking” hero, Tatum has made major strides to strengthen his portfolio, extending his talent in both comedy and drama.

It’s a Comedy Night Done Right reunion.
Steve Carell, star of “The Office,” will join previously announced Tina Fey, creator and star of “30 Rock,” in “The Four Seasons,” a Netflix comedy series based on the 1981 film of the same name. The streaming service announced Carell’s casting on Wednesday.
Fey and Carell previously starred in the 2010 comedy “Date Night,” in which they played a married couple. Their characters in “The Four Seasons” have not yet been announced.
The film follows three couples who go on quarterly vacations together, where the stresses and joys of marriage get magnified, especially after one of the men leaves his wife for a younger woman and begins bringing her on the trips. The film’s point-of-view couple is played by Alan Alda (who also wrote and directed) and Carol Burnett. The film was previously adapted into a short-lived sitcom in 1984.

Steve Carell is set to star opposite Tina Fey in the upcoming Netflix comedy series “The Four Seasons,” Variety has learned.
The series is based on the 1981 film of the same name that was directed by and starred Alan Alda with Carol Burnett, Rita Moreno, Sandy Dennis, and Len Cariou also among the cast members. The series was first announced in January with an eight-episode order and is slated to begin production later this year.
In the film, three married couples take vacations together each season, but things are thrown for a loop when one of the husbands leaves his wife and begins bringing a younger woman with him. It was previously adapted into a 1984 TV series for CBS.
This will not be the first time Carell and Fey have appeared together onscreen. They previously played a married couple in the hit 2010 comedy feature “Date Night.” This is also not Carell’s first Netflix series,...

Channing Tatum, a natural athlete who found that college was not to his liking, moved to Tampa in his teens to work construction and found an outside gig as a male stripper at night. To Tatum’s credit, he never denied his stripping gig but instead turned it into artistic gold (years after he became an actor) with a hit franchise you may have heard about: “Magic Mike” (2012), “Magic Mike Xxl” (2015) and “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” (2023).
After being discovered by a talent scout, Tatum started his career with small movie parts until he snagged the lead in “Step Up,” (2006), a successful dance/romance mash-up. Tatum’s looks and athleticism, as well as his dancing and acting skills attracted casting directors, who began to place him in bigger and bigger films.
With Tatum’s skills, that led to films with better and better directors, a list that any actor would envy...

Payman Maadi brings a fierce intelligence to his portrayal of a refugee seeking a secure new home for his family in Sweden
Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher from 2015 and Sean Durkin’s recent The Iron Claw show the sport of wrestling as deeply dysfunctional; wrestling fans might wonder if their favourite pastime is ever going to be depicted in the movies as vital and dramatic, like football, or even tragically noble and masculine, like boxing. Well … not in this film.
Motståndaran, or Opponent, is a tense, complex drama from Iranian-born and Denmark-based director Milad Alami, drawing on some of his own experiences as a refugee in northern Sweden. Payman Maadi (from Asghar Farhadi’s A Separation) plays Imam, a grizzled Iranian wrestling champ seeking asylum in Sweden with his pregnant wife Maryam (Marall Nasiri) and their two young daughters. Ang Lee broke ground on films like “Gemini Man” and “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk,” developing new camera systems to experiment with de-aging and high-frame rates in 3D. But as the old adage goes, you’re only as good as your last picture, and in the case of the Oscar-winning “Brokeback Mountain” director, he hasn’t released a new movie since 2019’s “Gemini Man” bombed at the box office. As did “Billy Lynn,” a movie that could only be shown properly in a small handful of screens, before it underperformed in 2016.
Lee, who is being honored at his alma mater New York University at a Tisch gala on April 8, spoke with IndieWire about his experiences making those films — and why he’s not going to repeat their innovations for his upcoming Bruce Lee biopic, starring Ang Lee’s own son Mason. Matt Reeves’ The Batman and Denis Villeneuve’s Dunes: Part One share a unique but fascinating connection: their cinematography. Both films, despite being modern releases, boast a visual style reminiscent of the 1970s. This unique appearance was achieved by meticulous design.
Robert Pattinson as Batman
Reeves and his cinematographer Greg Fraser took a unique approach to capturing the visual elements of The Batman. Taking inspiration from gritty 1970s thrillers like Clute and All the President’s Men, they’ve deliberately opted for classic anamorphic lenses.
SUGGESTEDDune: Part One Cashes in $30M at the Box Office Despite Being Available For Free on Streaming, Raises Hype For Sequel
And, the same technique, that combines the power of digital filmmaking with the classic charm of making a movie. was also used in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part One, where the cinematographer was Greig Fraser again.

The 2024 Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actor are Sterling K. Brown (“American Fiction”), Robert De Niro (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), Robert Downey Jr. (“Oppenheimer”), Ryan Gosling (“Barbie”), and Mark Ruffalo (“Poor Things”). Our odds currently show Downey (3/1) triumphing, followed in order of likelihood by Gosling (39/10), Ruffalo (9/2), De Niro (9/2), and Brown (9/2).
At 80, De Niro ranks as the ninth oldest nominee in the history of this category, which was established just six years before he was born. Less than eight years separate him from record holder Christopher Plummer, whose victory at 82 for “Beginners” (2012) would put him solely ahead of De Niro on the winners list. As it happens, De Niro already sits in sixth place among the youngest supporting male champs, having triumphed at 31 on his very first bid for “The Godfather Part II” (1975).
Having also achieved a Best Actor victory for “Raging Bull” (1981), De Niro is indeed the only member...

Mark Ruffalo, currently in the home stretch of the campaign for his Best Supporting Actor nomination for “Poor Things,” recently spoke with GQ and floated a theory as to why we won’t see him lead a film for his most widely-known character.
“I’d love to do a standalone Hulk,” he said, speaking about his superhero persona in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I just don’t think that’s ever going to happen,” he added, explaining “it’s very expensive if you did a whole movie, which is why they use the Hulk so sparingly. I priced myself out!”
He was sure to say that it was the computer-generated imagery that was so costly – all those processors churning away to make his enormous green muscles look real – and not his salary, of course!

Mark Ruffalo is opening up about his time as the Hulk and how he would love to do more with the character in the future. However, he told GQ in a recent interview that he acknowledges a solo Hulk movie is unlikely.
“I’d love to do a standalone Hulk, I just don’t think that’s ever going to happen,” the actor told the magazine. “It’s very expensive if you did a whole movie, which is why they use the Hulk so sparingly. I priced myself out!” He noted that while the cost of CGI has likely decreased over the years, it’s still quite pricey.
Now, it’s important to note that a solo Hulk movie would be a little more complicated than just the cost of making the film. While Ruffalo has starred as Hulk in Marvel movies, the rights to the character are actually owned by Universal Pictures,...

On December 22, 2023, Zac Efron’s The Iron Claw came to the theaters and won the hearts of all movie lovers. “Oppenheimer” has surged ahead of its competition, potentially becoming one of the most dominant Oscar winners since “Slumdog Millionaire” (2008), which garnered eight statuettes. Looking at the state of the race post-nominations, the Universal Pictures’ blockbuster could make an even bigger impact.
Christopher Nolan’s historical drama about the father of the Atomic bomb leads the tally with 13, making it the 11th movie to reach such a gargantuan Oscars nomination count. Six of the previous 10 films scored best picture wins, including classics like “Gone with the Wind” (1939), “Forrest Gump” (1994), and “The Shape of Water” (2017). Annette Bening is an actor’s actor. Like many of the greats before her, she began her career in the theatre. Through the 80s, she quietly compiled a library of rich, complex characters before making her Tony-nominated broadway debut in 1987’s “Coastal Disturbances.”
Bening then made her well deserved transition over to Hollywood with John Hughes’ “The Great Outdoors.” The film didn’t perform as well as hoped, nor did Milos Forman’s “Valmont” which was released the following year, but they both paved the way for Bening’s eventual Oscar-nominated breakout as Myra Langtry in Stephen Frears’ “The Grifters.”
She got particularly close to Oscar gold with “American Beauty” in 2000. Annette bagged the BAFTA and SAG award for her iconic portrayal of the colourfully volatile wife-in-crisis, Carolyn Burnham. She lost to Hilary Swank (“Boys Don’t Cry”) though, who had edged her out at the Globes.

The 2010 San Diego Comic-Con was not the biggest gathering in the event's history, but in terms of its importance as a movie marketing event, this was the freakin' year. The gargantuan, hangar-sized Hall H, christened in 2004 as the home for star-studded studio panels, was packed on both peak days as major stars and filmmakers shilled the next two years' most anticipated genre titles. Friday was all about "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," which, with all its major stars present, turned into a shriek-filled presentation as deafening as The Beatles' 1964 appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show."
And then there was Saturday.
Warner Bros. kicked off the Hall H festivities with a buzzy panel that could've matched the "Twilight" delirium had the main Harry Potter trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint showed up for the "Deathly Hallows: Part I" preview. The day threatened to descend into chaos when a...

Fight scenes in movies are a serious, carefully managed undertaking, especially when they're shot in a way that doesn't allow for the actors to rely on stunt people. Filmmakers obviously value authenticity, but they also don't want their onscreen talent getting injured to such a degree that they wind up in a hospital, thus delaying the completion of the movie and, likely, jacking up the budget. This gets tricky when you're working with actors who want to prove their physical mettle and perhaps outshine their co-star. And when this competition is baked into the drama, well, there's a potential for things to go a little haywire.
There are extreme examples like Jackie Chan and Benny "The Jet" Urquidez's all-out brawls in "Wheels on Meal" and "Dragons Forever," but these men are trained combatants. It's a little different when, say, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo hit the mat in Bennett Miller's depressing true-crime drama "Foxcatcher.

Although highly regarded as a theater star — he earned a Tony nomination in 2006 for “Awake and Sing!” and just returned years later to Broadway in “The Price” — Mark Ruffalo is for most people a bona fide movie star. For his film performances, he has been nominated for three Oscars, two Golden Globes and four Screen Actors Guild Awards, winning one as part of the ensemble cast of “Spotlight” in 2015.
These days, however, Ruffalo’s greatest fame is largely thanks to his being part of the Marvel universe, having taken over the roles of Dr. Bruce Banner and The Hulk in 2012’s “Marvel’s The Avengers.” After a cameo performance in 2013’s “Iron Man 3,” Ruffalo’s Hulk also appeared in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” in 2015, “Thor: Ragnarok” in 2017 and the final “The Avengers” movies.

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival will honor Jeffrey Wright with the Montecito Award at a Feb. 15 event. At the event, Wright will discuss his career leading up to this year’s performance in “American Fiction,” for which he has received lead actor nominations for the Gotham, Spirit, Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards.
“I’ve been a fan of Mr. Wright since I first saw him in 1993 in the original Broadway production of “Angels in America.” I’ve since admired that he brings a high level of class and integrity to every role he does. Yet, no film had capitalized on his extraordinary range and virtuosity until “American Fiction.” It is about time,” Sbiff’s Executive Director Roger Durling.
Wright has received Tony, Emmy, AFI and Golden Globe awards and has appeared in “Rustin,” “No Time to Die,” “Westworld,” “Asteroid City” and “The Batman.”

Within the last decade, Mark Ruffalo has collected many film and TV acting trophies – including an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and three SAG Awards – but has yet to win the favor of the Critics Choice Association despite receiving numerous nominations from them across multiple categories. Although he has had the least luck in their Best Supporting Actor contests, his inclusion in 2024’s could finally lead to a positive outcome. Either way, the “Poor Things” cast member will at least finish this awards season having made history as the first man to ever compete for this featured performance prize four times.
On his previous three Best Supporting Actor bids for “The Kids Are All Right” (2011), “Foxcatcher” (2015), and “Spotlight” (2016), Ruffalo was respectively bested by Christian Bale (“The Fighter”), J.K. Simmons (“Whiplash”), and Sylvester Stallone (“Creed”). The eight-year gap between his two most recent notices is one of the largest in this category’s history,...

Saudi director Ali Kalthami’s debut feature Night Courier (Mandoob) was a hot ticket at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah earlier this month and expectations are running high for its local release, which begins at midnight today.
As is often the case in Saudi Arabia right now, the Red Sea screening felt like history in the making as an intergenerational local crowd packed out the auditorium alongside international guests, lapping up the drama and deadpan humor.
The Riyadh-set social thriller stars popular Saudi actor Mohamad AlDokhei as a Fahad, a man in his late 30s, who turns to work as a night courier (mandoob) after he is sacked from his job at a call center.
When he stumbles on an illegal alcohol ring, he hatches a plan to boost his meagre earnings but then falls foul of the gang running the operation.

If any obsession straddles writer-director Sean Durkin’s three feature films to date, it’s family. The filmmaker’s cinematic gaze fixates with laser-like intensity on a structure that’s long stood as a key organizing unit of American society. While Durkin’s previous examinations tended toward the extremes, such as cultish devotion in Martha Marcy May Marlene and consumerist corrosion in The Nest, focusing on a more traditional nuclear family in The Iron Claw reveals a no less entropic force gnawing away at the structure.
Durkin’s tale of the Von Erich wrestling dynasty splits the difference between the psychological subjectivity of his debut feature and the chilly remove of its follow-up. In The Iron Claw, the filmmaker melds the reverence of a ringside fanatic with the rigor of someone who very clearly took the themes of Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull to heart. From tribulations and triumphs to tragedies,...

Mark Ruffalo recalled the moment he accidentally popped Channing Tatum‘s eardrum while they were filming 2014’s Foxcatcher.
The Poor Things actor appeared on the latest episode of Hot Ones, where he told host Sean Evans that the Magic Mike star “did ask me to slap the shit out of him.”
Ruffalo quipped that “it was easy to do because he’d beaten the shit out of me so many times” since the co-stars had “like four months of wrestling, of learning how to wrestle together” for the film.
The Bennett Miller-directed film explores the real-life story of wealthy heir John du Pont, who murdered U.S. Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz in 1996. Tatum and Ruffalo play brothers Mark and David Schultz, respectively, while Steve Carell plays John du Pont.
Ruffalo explained that Tatum had “30 pounds on me so when it came time to smack the shit out of him,...

Mark Ruffalo appeared on “Hot Ones” ahead of the release of “Poor Things” and got asked about the time he accidentally popped Channing Tatum’s eardrum on the set of “Foxcatcher.” The 2014 sports drama, directed by Bennett Miller, starred the two actors as Olympic wrestlers Mark and David Schultz. Ruffalo played David, who was murdered in January 1996 by multimillionaire John du Pont (played by Steve Carell in the film) after John recruited the brothers to help train them.
“[Channing] did ask me to slap the shit out of him, and it was easy to do because he’d beaten the shit out of me so many times,” Ruffalo wisecracked when the topic of Tatum’s popped eardrum was brought up.

Like his “Poor Things” costar Emma Stone being feted three hours away in Palm Springs, another famed California film festival will recognize actor Mark Ruffalo, currently riding high on buzz from both “Poor Things” and the hit Netflix miniseries “All the Light We Cannot See.” The three-time Oscar nominee and Emmy winner will receive the American Riviera Award this year from the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Indie and art film producer Jon Kilik, unlike many, remains hopeful for the personal, mid-budget movie for grown-ups. “Those are the films directors love to make and audiences still love,” says Kilik, being feted this week at Poland’s Camerimage cinematography festival for work of special visual sensitivity.

Adapted from Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Netflix’s limited series “All the Light We Cannot See” sets two unlikely kindred spirits on a collision course as World War II begins in France when Germany occupied the country. Shawn Levy directed all four episodes of Steven Knight’s scripts.
Marie-Laure LeBlanc (Aria Mia Loberti) and Werner Pfennig (Louis Hoffman) share curiosity and empathy, which translates across their opposing countries and positions in the war. Werner’s skill for fixing and translating radios leads him to a high position in the Nazi effort to decode secret broadcasts that their targets might send. Marie-Laure herself becomes a broadcaster after her father moves her to her uncle’s home in a small, seaside French town.

Yorgos Lanthimos‘ “The Favourite” scored 10 Oscar nominations in 2019, including bids for Best Picture and Best Director for Lanthimos and a Best Actress win for Olivia Colman. Given that it has been accomplished by eight performers, the feat of winning SAG Awards for two different limited series or TV movies isn’t as rare as it once was. Nonetheless, it remains an impressive achievement since no one has yet topped it, but that could change in a matter of months. Heading into the 30th SAG Awards ceremony, two-time Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actor victor Mark Ruffalo has a shot at snagging another trophy of the same kind, which would earn him the distinction of being either non-continuing program category’s first triple champion.

There are few sports stories as bizarre and tragic as tale of the Von Erich family, a family of professional wrestlers whose luck was so singularly awful that it popularized something called the “Von Erich Curse.” Was the curse real? You might find out if you watch “The Iron Claw,” the upcoming sports drama from A24 and filmmaker Sean Durkin, named after the wrestling move the family popularized. And you can watch the trailer above.

Oscar-winning cinematographer Greig Fraser was “devastated” when Warner Bros. announced that “Dune: Part Two” was shifting its release date from Nov. 2023 to March 2024.
“I was really ready to start talking about it,” he tells Variety. However, the move means he can focus his attention on his other film, Gareth Edwards’ $80 million visual spectacular “The Creator.”
Fraser shared co-cinematographer duties with Oren Soffer on the film, taking an experimental approach to shooting futuristic landscapes. The production aimed to create the grandness and visual scale of a huge blockbuster film, but on a more modest budget. And he achieved it.
“Gareth and wanted to maximize everyone’s toil on this,” Fraser shares. “So, when we put two actors in a room together with a camera, we looked at how many people we really needed standing outside.”
Next, the pair spent extensive time ahead of production figuring out the infrastructure of the shoot.

“Poor Things” looks set to be a major Oscar contender this year. It just won the Golden Lion at Venice and Emma Stone just took over the top spot on our Best Actress Oscar odds chart. Supporting players Willem Dafoe and Mark Ruffalo look set to match an Academy Award record.
“Poor Things” tell the tale of Stone as a young woman brought back to life by a scientist in the Victorian era. Dafoe plays the eccentric scientist, complete with a peculiar Scottish accent and killer prosthetic makeup design, while Ruffalo hams it up as the scientist’s lawyer, donning a hilarious English accent and turning up the camp to 10. Both performances are now being touted as strong Oscar contenders in the Best Supporting Actor category, which could see Dafoe and Ruffalo earn their fifth and fourth nominations respectively.
Dafoe was first nominated in 1987 for Best Supporting Actor for “Platoon.

A pre-screening convo and tribute was moderated by director Karyn Kusama, as the two discussed Lanthimos’ filmography, including his early works “Kinetta” and “Alps.”
In the audience were Oscar winners like director Chloé Zhao (“Nomadland”) and actor Casey Affleck (“Manchester by the Sea”), and they, along with the rest of the crowd, devoured the audacious, Frankenstein-esque tale.
After bowing at the Venice Film Festival, Lanthimos brought his eccentric cinematic style to the Colorado mountains with the sci-fi dramedy, the first movie among this year’s sensational Telluride lineup that feels like a potential best picture winner.

In the 10 years since The Office aired its series finale, many of the show’s cast members have gone on to have prolific careers in the industry. From drama to comedy to horror, these actors have done a great job diversifying their filmographies and discovering their strengths as performers. While The Office may have kickstarted some of their careers, they certainly haven’t let the popularity of the show keep them from exploring characters that are wildly different from their Dunder Mifflin counterparts.
Across film and television, here are The Office cast’s best post-Office roles.
Steve Carell – The Morning Show
Steve Carell has had a wide variety of roles since he left The Office. From reprising his character Brick Tamland in the Anchorman sequel one year to getting his first Oscar nomination for his role in Foxcatcher the next, Carell’s post-Office career has given him the opportunity to...

Female directors have had a hard time at the Academy Awards. Over the first 95 years of the Oscars, only seven women have ever been nominated for Best Director: Lina Wertmüller in 1977 for “Seven Beauties,” Jane Campion in 1994 for “The Piano” and in 2022 for “The Power of the Dog,” Sofia Coppola in 2004 for “Lost in Translation,” Kathryn Bigelow in 2010 for “The Hurt Locker,” Greta Gerwig in 2018 for “Lady Bird,” Emerald Fennell in 2021 for “Promising Young Woman,” and Chloé Zhao in the same year for “Nomadland.”
That Fennell and Zhao were nominated in that same year is history in and of itself. That is the one and only time that more than one woman has been nominated for Best Director in the same year. But could that be about to change this year? There are a number of strong contenders who could be looking to join that short list of female directors to earn Best Director bids.

When the Beanie Baby craze reached its apex in the late Nineties, around the time desperate suburbanites were shelling out small fortunes for the purple Princess Diana bear on eBay and ransacking shopping malls whenever rumors hit that a new shipment had arrived, screenwriter Kristin Gore and Ok Go frontman Damian Kulash were barely aware it was even happening. “We were in college,” Gore says. “We were too old to be collectors. We just sort of missed it.”
“I was snobby about it,” Kulash adds. “I was leaving my teens and going into my twenties,...

Steve Carell first came to prominence as a correspondent on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” appearing as a regular cast member from 1999 to 2005. He left the nightly news satire to play bumbling boss Michael Scott in “The Office,” a role which brought him six Emmy nominations as Best Comedy Actor and a Golden Globe win in 2006.
After supporting roles in such films as “Bruce Almighty” (2003), “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” (2004), “Melinda and Melinda” (2004), and “Bewitched” (2005), Carell moved into leading man status playing a middle-aged man seeking to have sex for the first time in “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” (2005). He received wide critical acclaim the very next year for playing a gay Proust scholar in the Oscar-winning “Little Miss Sunshine.”
Carell became an Oscar nominee himself for playing eccentric billionaire John du Pont in Bennett Miller‘s true life sports drama “Foxcatcher” (2014). He reaped a Golden Globe bid the following...

In the tradition of “Air,” “Tetris,” and “Blackberry” comes another flashy fact-based drama that owes more than a little of its joie de vivre to “The Social Network.” On Thursday, Apple released the first trailer for “The Beanie Bubble,” the rags-to-riches story of the first viral sensation, Ty’s Beanie Babies.
“Why did the world suddenly treat stuffed animals like gold? Ty Warner was a frustrated toy salesman until his collaboration with three women grew his masterstroke of an idea into the biggest toy craze in history,” reads the film’s synopsis. “‘The Beanie Bubble’ is an inventive story about what and who we value, and the unsung heroes whose names didn’t appear on the heart-shaped tag.”
The project comes from Kristin Gore, an associate producer of “Foxcatcher” and former Vice President Al Gore’s daughter, and Damian Kulash, Jr., the lead singer of Ok Go and Kristin Gore’s husband.

Mark Ruffalo is teaming up with Brad Ingelsby (Mare of Easttown) and HBO for what’s currently known as the Untitled Brad Ingelsby Task Force Project. The network announced they’re given the untitled project a series order and pointed out Ruffalo’s involvement as star and executive producer of the limited series was set into place prior to the WGA strike on May 2, 2023.
HBO also confirmed no work is currently being done on the project as the strike continues.
Three-time Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo is playing a character named Tom who, per the incredibly short synopsis, is somehow involved with “a task force of law enforcement officers and the criminals they are trying to apprehend.”
Brad Ingelsby’s Mare of Easttown won four Emmys and two Critics Choice Awards, as well as Writers Guild, Producers Guild,...
