- TriviaThis episode features both Dennis Farina and John Santucci. Both were frequent collaborators with Michael Mann and appeared multiple times in the series. The two actors first appeared together in Mann's Thief (1981), in which Farina played a gangster and Santucci played a cop; in real life, Farina had previously been a cop with the Chicago Police Department while Santucci had worked as a jewel thief in the city. In fact, Farina had arrested Santucci during his time with the Chicago PD. Furthermore, the main heist in "Thief", involving the use of a thermal lance to cut through a vault door, was based on a real-life robbery orchestrated by Santucci.

Lombard
Lombard is a character piece on Albert Lombard (Dennis Farina) forced to testify against his bosses while trying to make up with his son.
The police have subpoenaed Lombard, gave him immunity from prosecution so he cannot plead the 5th Amendment. Not being a US lawyer I am not sure the legality of how the 5th can be overridden especially in the next sentence it is added that if Lombard does not talk he will be cited!
Lombard is a gangster of the old school. He does not believe in ratting out his bosses even if he does not like the new young upstart Librizzi that heads the family.
Librizzi has no time for past loyalties and orders a hit on Lombard. It is up to Crockett and Tubbs to protect Lombard.
There are several nice shootouts in this episode featuring some big guns. Although you have question Lombard's judgment when a henchman fingers his close friend for ordering the hit on him and Lombard dismisses it.
For the first season of Miami Vice, this is a rather subdued episode. The scenes with Lombard's son is hokey. One of the song's featured is Wire from U2.
