Whether it’s comedy, romance, action, or presenting a more serious character, actress Sandra Bullock has demonstrated her versatility across various genres. Despite delivering numerous standout performances, she has acknowledged not all her films have met the standard, particularly sequels like the 2005 comedy film Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous.

Summer isn’t over yet but HBO and its streaming arm Max are already moving on to fall. With its list of new releases for August 2023, Max is focusing on football! The American kind, mind you, not the actually footy kind.
August 2023 sees the release of two major football documentaries on HBO and Max. The first is the premiere of Hard Knocks on Aug. 10. The new season of long-running NFL training camp docuseries will center on the New York Jets, new employers of legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On Aug. 23, Max will air the aptly named Bs High. The doc tells the stranger-than-fiction story of high school football team Bishop Sycamore, which pulled off one of the more notable sports scams you’re likely to ever hear about.
Not of the football variety but in keeping with the North American sports theme will be season 2 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on Aug.

A new month has arrived, which means a fresh batch of movies and TV shows streaming on Netflix. Most monumentally, the beginning of the month saw the conclusion of “Stranger Things 4,” which began back in May but is just now finishing up. (There’ll be one more season before the series winds down.) Other new Netflix original series this month include the horror-comedy “Boo, Bitch,” the fourth season of “Virgin River” and the fifth season of all-ages animated spin-off “Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous” (which we’ve heard has some surprising connections to this summer’s blockbuster “Jurassic World: Dominion”).
On the Netflix original films side of things, the biggest new release is undoubtedly “The Gray Man.” A nonstop action extravaganza from Joe and Anthony Russo, the directing duo behind “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgmane,” it stars Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling as dueling spies. There’s also a new...

When Emmy and Oscar-winning actress Regina King visited Deadline’s New Hollywood Podcast, we learned a lot of behind-the-scenes intel about her feature directorial debut One Night In Miami, which has become an awards season frontrunner for King as well as the cast. In addition to that, we got to learn a lot about the trailblazing actor and filmmaker.
For one, we learned that as a child, King used to perform her live plays with her sister in their backyard, she once had career aspirations to be a dentist and, to this day, she loves to people watch — which is part of the reason why she is a great performer.
King broke into the industry playing Brenda on the iconic sitcom 227 (which I tend to bring up a lot during the podcast) and went on to help sculpt Black cinema in the ’90s with groundbreaking films that included Boyz N the Hood...

Now this hit us right in the feels! During an exclusive interview with Life & Style, Law & Order alum Elisabeth Röhm opened up about how she relates to Serena Southerlyn — the Assistant District Attorney she portrayed for 85 episodes of the series between 2001 and 2005. "Between Serena Southerlyn and myself, I think she's the idealistic, I think she cares a lot. She's a bleeding heart and I'm a bleeding heart," she said at the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection showcase, presented by Macy's. "I think that I respond to characters that have a lot of strength, so hopefully I think there are things in common between us." When Serena first stepped on to the scene in Season 12, she replaced Angie Harmon's character, Abbie Carmichael. Elisabeth starred on the long-running series alongside Dianne Wiest, Fred Thompson, and Sam Waterston. Fans will recall her headline-making series departure,...

While October usually signals the arrival of all sorts of spooky, creepy, scary, and otherwise appropriately Halloween-themed films to both theaters and streaming services, this month’s batch of new titles on Netflix offers up a delightfully wide variety of choices that aren’t all tied to the year’s primary celebration of fear. Sure, those titles are there — from more mainstream chillers like “Cult of Chucky” and the new original “The Babysitter,” to more offbeat picks like the cannibal coming-of-age tale “Raw” and the seminal “Donnie Darko” — but this month’s incoming list has more than enough for movie fans who don’t want to shriek at their televisions.

It wasn't one of star Sandra Bullock's Oscar bait roles, nor was it one of her smooshy romantic comedies. No, it's pretty much an out-and-out comedy, with Bullock starring as frumpy, awkward FBI agent Gracie Hart, who goes undercover at a beauty pageant and finds her inner swan. And don't forget that female-led comedies were hard to come by back then and are still pretty rare all these years later. Today, it's a well-loved entry in Bullock's filmography. 3D space disaster movie relies on her personal qualities and acting chops that continue to produce hits from unlikely material
• Video: Gravity star Sandra Bullock: 'What we do, it's all sci-fi'
• Peter Bradshaw's five-star review for Gravity
Sandra Bullock may not have been the obvious first choice to play a scientist stuck in high-earth orbit in a 3D space thriller – especially not for producing studio Warner Bros, who had originally intended Gravity to be a vehicle for Angelina Jolie.
But there's no question now that she made the role her own. After a string of perky, cornbread roles over the past two decades, Bullock can also claim to have substantially reinvented herself with this grim-faced, physically demanding performance. Gravity's success – it will almost certainly overtake The Blind Side as her highest-grossing film in the not too distant future – caps a spectacular second coming for the actor, whose...

America’s sweetheart Sandra Bullock continued her reign as Hollywood royalty this year as the two films she top-lined (cop comedy The Heat and space drama Gravity) were both met with huge box office numbers and critical acclaim. So, while the ending to Gravity left little room for a sequel, it should come as no surprise that 20th Century Fox is interested in pursuing a follow-up to The Heat.
Bullock previously expressed her reluctance to reprise the role of Special Agent Sarah Ashburn in a second installment, likely due to her dubious track record with sequels (see: Speed 2: Cruise Control and Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous). One would think that a film’s star publicly dismissing the idea of a follow-up would kill talk of a sequel, but it would seem that the conversation is not over yet.

Far be it from us to question Hollywood wisdom, as we can easily see why Fox executives want more from "The Heat." The summer comedy was a smash hit at home, taking in over $155 million on its way to $229 million worldwide. And while there was some talk of a sequel, Sandra Bullock has been wary. Earlier this year she said she "can't imagine" doing a followup, point to her history of less that satisfying sequels ("Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous" and "Speed 2: Cruise Control," need we say more) as the reason for her reticence. But we guess it always pays to have a Plan B, and Paul Feig has one. The director is now developing a spinoff that will focus on Beth And Gina, played by Jamie Denbo and Jessica Chaffin, who were part of Melissa McCarthy's character's family in the film. Denbo, Chaffin and Feig have worked together before,...

When "The Heat" proved an unexpected smash over the summer, amassing over $200 million worldwide, plans were immediately set in motion for a sequel. Director Paul Feig tentatively agreed to return and screenwriter Kate Dippold was commissioned to work on a script, hopefully one that was slightly tighter than the somewhat ramshackle original. But one holdout has always been Sandra Bullock, whose chemistry with costar Melissa McCarthy was a big reason for the movie's success.
Well, it seems like even those faint glimmers of hope can be extinguished: she's not doing it. Bullock flatly told The Wrap at a screening of "Gravity," "I'm not doing a sequel to 'The Heat.'" The reason? "I've done two sequels. They were horrible." Well, it's hard to argue with her reasoning.

Is a second installment of The Heat in Sandra Bullock's future? It's not likely according to her. .I.m not doing a sequel to .The Heat. I.ve done two sequels. They were horrible. What Melissa and I had was beautiful. We might do another film together. I think we should do a silent film together.. Which sequels could she be referring to? Actor who made her name in comedy films as an acid-tongued, gravel-voiced tyrant
Eileen Brennan, who has died aged 80, had been a stage actor since the late 1950s, but it was as a largely comic presence in Us cinema of the 1970s and early 1980s that she was most widely admired. As the pitiless Captain Doreen Lewis, putting a dippy new recruit – Goldie Hawn – through her paces in the hit military comedy Private Benjamin (1980), she wore her trademark look: a solid frizz of red hair, a clenched, sneering smile and an expression of withering incredulity. Then there was the gravelly voice: a heard-it-all whine to match that seen-it-all face. It sounded like bourbon on the rocks. Actual rocks, that is.

Despite the film grossing more than $130 million at the U.S. box-office since its release, Sandra Bullock says she's in no hurry to get involved in a sequel to her recent cop comedy "The Heat". Bullock tells EW:
"I know they say never say never, but right now, I can't imagine it. I don’t want to ruin what Melissa and I had. If a miracle happens where [a script] shows up that really and truly outdid the first and provided an experience that was better than the first one, then I would look at it. But I'm not there."
The critical and box-office failure of the two sequels she previously starred in - "Speed 2: Cruise Control" and "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous" - have understandably made her wary of returning to the trough:
"If you look back on my illustrious sequel work, nothing has proven successful. A sequel is such a daunting thing,...

Hopes for a sequel to "The Heat" are nearly extinguished, according to Sandra Bullock.
The co-star of the cop comedy has said that the only thing that would get her holstered up again alongside Melissa McCarthy is a miracle. As it combined the hilarity forces that are Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, we suspected The Heat would be on bad-ass action-comedy. And it undoubtedly is. Not only has it won critical praise, but the R-rated buddy cop caper has proved a big hit for Fox, banking more than $150 million worldwide to date. With numbers like that, a sequel seems a no-brainer, but one half of the funny film.s leading ladies isn.t quite on board with for bringing back The Heat. Bullock was blunt about her standing on a sequel, telling EW: .I know they say never say never, but right now, I can.t imagine it.. To be fair, Bullock.s distaste for sequels is well earned. Memorably, Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous was critically reviled and earned less than half the first film.s box office. Then of course there.s the disastrous Speed 2: Cruise Control...

For cynics who believe that most sequels should never have been made and should never be made, here's some good news for you: Sandra Bullock, star of "The Heat" with Melissa McCarthy, doesn't see a sequel on the horizon for her buddy cop comedy at this time.
Though the still-in-theaters flick has already grossed $130 million -- which sparked rumors of a possible sequel -- Bullock doesn't want to ruin a good thing. Before The Heat hit theaters, we knew a sequel was already in the works. And after seeing the thing, it made sense, as the movie left things open ended. Then with it killing at the box office (it's currently over $130 million), a sequel seemed like a forgone conclusion. Not so fast, says Sandra Bullock. Talking with Entertainment Weekly, she said, "I know they say never say never, but right now, I can’t imagine it.” She explained that she doesn't want to ruin what she had with her co-star Melissa McCarthy. Bullock also pointed to the shortcomings over her "illustrious sequel work" in Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous and Speed 2: Cruise Control. Age seems to suit Sandra Bullock quit well. As she celebrates her 48th birthday today, her life appears as exciting and happy as ever. Not only does she have an impressive acting career, but her body is hotter than most 20-year-old’s. (Seriously, check out her flat tummy and sculpted arms). Most important, she rings in her 48th b-day in the good company of her adorable son, Louis, whom she adopted in January 2010. We gotta say, things have been really shaping up for Sandra Bullock.

Oh Sandy, no. We want our Sandra Bullock strong and charismatic, like in Miss Congeniality, not tragic and broken down by the world, like in Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous. Luckily a role in the upcoming drama Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close and the encouragement of director Stephen Daldry cured her of the near-terminal case of “chronic Jesse James” Bullock had contracted from her divorce. As the Blind Side star explained to AP, “I was perfectly content to be permanently broken … time-wise. I honestly didn’t think I was in a place where I wanted to work or wanted to step out of where I was. I wasn’t prepared. But the opportunity was louder than my head.” Oh yeah, this sounds like straight-up Speed Sandra Bullock talking now. Which is a good thing.

Throwing off a lingering winter chill, the first weekend of spring saw the North American boxoffice perk up. Universal Pictures' Inside Man took moviegoers hostage as it commanded the top spot with a bigger-than-expected $29 million bow. The total boxoffice for the 116 films tracked by the Hollywood Reporter was $109.3 million, up 10.4% from the comparable weekend in 2005 when Sony Pictures' comedy Guess Who, starring Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher, took the top slot with $20.7 million, followed by that weekend's other new arrival, Warner Bros. Pictures' Miss Congeniality 2, starring Sandra Bullock, which scored $14 million. It was the first weekend in a while to see an uptick in comparison to last year. Though a taught, twisty thriller, the R-rated Inside Man left its distributor, Universal Pictures, laughing all the way to the bank. Director Spike Lee and star Denzel Washington -- whose previous collaborations include Mo' Better Blues and Malcolm X -- each scored a personal best as the movie attracted older moviegoers to the multiplex. The Imagination Entertainment production, which boasts supporting turns from Jodie Foster and Clive Owen, drew an audience with 68% over age 30. The majority reported Washington's star presence as the primary factor drawing them to the movie.

The films with a substantial number of screens currently working in the overseas market are the ones coming up with acceptable-to -sound boxoffice returns before the invasion of the summer blockbusters which begins late this month. After a review of Sunday estimates, the family action-comedy The Pacifier edged ahead of thriller The Interpreter for weekend boxoffice honors, with the Vin Diesel starrer collecting $9.1 million from 1,908 screens in 22 markets and the Nicole Kidman-Sean Penn teaming taking in $8.7 million from 1,158 screens in 17 countries. A number of other current entries (holdovers and new offerings), with screen counts ranging from almost 2,000 to over 3,000, performed fairly well considering the usually slow period of the year. The Ring Two rang up $6.7 million, Robots, also $6.7 million; Hitch, $5.3 million; Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous, $5.2 million; Constantine, $5.1 million; and Be Cool, $5 million. Pacifier finished No. 1 in nine out of 10 new openings, according to distributor Buena Vista International, highlighted by top-of-the-market bows in Germany ($2.2 million from 602 screens) and Russia ($1.1 million from 602).

With an almost $15 million haul from 3,583 screens in 35 countries, The Ring Two led the pack in a leisurely period at the overseas boxoffice that may also have been slowed down a bit by the pope's funeral Friday and the British royal wedding Saturday. Robots, maintaining a steady pace in holdovers and new bows, came in second with $9.8 million from 5,883 in 43 markets, followed by long-running Hitch ($8.3 million), Be Cool ($5.7 million), Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous ($4.9 million), and The Pacifier ($4.5 million). Those films, in a sense, are holding the fort before the deluge of new titles starting out late this month for the early start of the summer season. Perhaps notable over the weekend was the day-and-date domestic-offshore launch of Sahara -- the Matthew McConaughey-Penelope Cruz action comedy directed by Breck Eisner, son of Disney's Michael Eisner -- in the United Kingdom and Australia. Released by United International Pictures, which also has the rights for New Zealand and Italy, the Paramount domestic release hit the top in the United Kingdom with $2.6 million (including previews) from 399 screens and arrived No. 2 (to The Pacifier) in Australia with $1.1 million from 194 sites.

In a weekend common to the overseas boxoffice after the Easter holidays and the arrival of spring, The Ring Two, circled by 15 new openings including several in key European markets, soared to the lead with a $16.6 million take from 1,271 screens in 32 territories. Ring's weekend performance unseated the four-week No. 1 hold of Hitch, which dropped to second place with $11.0 million from 4,500 screens in 56 markets and had Robots at its heels with $10.1 million from 5,812 screens in 43 markets. Rounding out the top five were Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous ($7.4 million) and Be Cool ($5.3 million). In the United Kingdom, frequently a harbinger of a film's boxoffice chances, Ring 2 arrived at No. 1, followed by the bow of Be Cool, the third weekend of Hitch, the third session of Robots, the opening of animated family comedy Valiant, the second weekend of Miss Congeniality 2, and the third weekend of Constantine.
Taking its place at the head of the boxoffice table this past Easter weekend was Sony's Guess Who, a modern comedic take on the venerable classic Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, which debuted with a solid $20.7 million. The Bernie Mac-Ashton Kutcher starrer, helmed by Kevin Rodney Sullivan, bested another comedy, Warner Bros. Pictures' Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous, which placed second with a debut of $14 million, grossing $17.1 million since its opening Thursday. Heading into the weekend, Miss Congeniality 2, starring Sandra Bullock and directed by John Pasquin, was the favored front-runner for the top spot at the boxoffice, but in the end it was Guess Who that proved to be the most agreeable to audiences.

Sony's Guess Who paid a surprise visit to the top spot at the boxoffice this Easter weekend as the Bernie Mac-Ashton Kutcher starrer, a contemporary comedic take on Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, came to the table with $20.7 million in its debut. Guess Who, from Columbia Pictures and Regency Enterprises and directed by Kevin Rodney Sullivan, was the fourth No. 1 opening for Sony this year. Heading into the weekend, most industry observers had projected Warner Bros. Pictures' Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous to debut in the top spot. The Sandra Bullock starrer, an FBI-set comedy helmed by John Pasquin and a sequel to the hit film Miss Congeniality, opened in the second spot with a lukewarm $14 million and $17 million since its debut Thursday. Regina King co-stars in the film. The original Miss Congeniality was a high multiple picture, opening in the fifth spot five years ago during a four-day Christmas weekend with $13.6 million, going on to gross $106.8 million by the end of its domestic run.

Warner Bros. Pictures is taking the unusual step of opening the broad comedy Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous the day before Good Friday. That move should put the welcomed sequel in the top spot at the boxoffice for the Easter weekend. But Sony Pictures also will be out to lure a wide audience this weekend with its racially themed comedy Guess Who. The original Miss Congeniality, which opened during Christmas 2000, grossed $106 million domestically. The sequel could double the original's opening four-day weekend take of $13 million. Sony Pictures' Guess Who reinvents the iconic film Guess Who's Coming to Dinner as a modern-day comedy starring Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher.
