Global Road announced in May during the Cannes Film Festival that it had bought North American rights to “The Secret Garden,” which had gone into production in the U.K. In September, Global Road filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and agreed in November to be purchased by Raven Capital Management.

Boxing Day evening has become a strong slot to kick off dark BBC drama, with two excellent Agatha Christie adaptations being shown in recent years that have relished in the kind of misdeeds that suit the post-gift comedown. This year we had a break from the golden era of crime for something contemporary: Jessie Burton’s bestselling novel The Miniaturist, published in 2014, adapted for the screen by John Brownlow. Still firmly in the realm of mystery, this was not about murder, but offered a very intriguing set of puzzles to be solved - although the answer were, perhaps, less suited to the screen than the page.
Some elements were a gift to the eyes: seventeenth century Amsterdam brings to mind the paintings of masters such as Rembrandt and Vermeer,...

Tom Hooper's "The Danish Girl" had its world premiere at the Venice film festival on Saturday and rave reviews establish last year's Best Actor champ Eddie Redmayne as a strong contender to become the sixth performer to win back-to-back Oscars. He plays artist Einar Wegener, one of the world’s first sex-change patients, who became Lili Elbe in the 1920s. Among the rest of the cast, Alicia Vikander is a stand-out as Wegener's wife Gerda as is Ben Whishaw as a would-be suitor to Lili. -Break- British playwright Lucinda Coxon ("Happy Now?") adapted David Ebershoff’s 2000 novel of the same name. For her work bringing Michael Farber's sweeping period novel "The Crimson Petal and the White" to television, she earned both BAFTA and Royal Television Society nominations. Prithee, my lord, loosen our corsets and unbutton our breeches. This week has seen a new wave of period drama steam, from Natalie Dormer's BBC film The Scandalous Lady W to the furore about the 'pornographic' new adaptation of Lady Chatterley's Lover.

Ooh, Mr Darcy. We'll ease you in gently with the BBC's iconic 1995 Pride and Prejudice miniseries, fondly remembered for the scene in which Colin Firth's dashing hero takes a dip in the Pemberley lake and emerges to greet his unexpected guests, dripping like a dolphin in a wet T-shirt contest.
While it may have shocked your grandma, this is pretty tame stuff.

Showtime’s Penny Dreadful Little Scorpion TV Show Review. Penny Dreadful: Season 2, Episode 7: Little Scorpion was an episode of ‘killer’ surprises. Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) finally found out what he is. Now he is as tormented as some of his companions. Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) is hunted by monsters and Ethan transforms into one during an uncontrollable state. Vanessa Ives previously referred to The Creature as a kindred spirit. How will she refer to Ethan once she knows what’s inside of him? Will he make the connection between himself and Lupus Dei?
The lightning strike was truly electrifying, setting loose feelings that had been pent up for a very long time. It was a dramatic moment but it quickly became dominated by the past. Vanessa knew what letting her sexual feelings loose could produce because of her sexual encounter with Dorian Grey. Many have been rooting for...

The world of Doctor Who has changed greatly in the space of just 10 years. The cast and crew have almost completely been replaced since 2005, including a number of new actors to play the errant Time Lord and his companions.
But what has happened to the class of '05? Where are Rose and Mickey now? What is the writer of 'Dalek' up to? And where can you see more work from the director of 'Rose'?
Here it is then, your guide to the main players of Doctor Who series one.
The Cast
After his three-month on-screen stint as the Doctor, Christopher Eccleston's career continued in much the same vein, taking in theatre, interesting television roles and the odd blockbuster.
Post-2005, the Northern actor went Stateside to take on the role of invisible man Claude in the Us series Heroes. From there, he popped up in a very amusing Doctor Who-esque cameo as Dr.

Interview
In the swish screening room underneath Channel 4’s London headquarters, Utopia director Marc Munden chatted to a group of Den Of Geek readers after a preview screening of the first two surprising, stunning episodes of series two.
Catch up on what was said, from big yellow bags to moral quandaries, rhino dung and more…
That first episode is quite a bold one insofar as it has none of the characters as we know in it, how hard was that to get past the channel? Was there much debate about doing it that way?
I think people were sceptical and then when Dennis started to write it people just got behind it. Once Dennis had written it, everyone just came on board and it just got better and better.

Here's the first trailer for Utopia's highly promising second series, coming to Channel 4 in July...
Trailer
A brand new series of the darkly comic conspiracy thriller Utopia is coming to Channel Four this July, written by Dennis Kelly (Pulling, Matilda: The Musical) and lead-directed by visionary Marc Munden (The Devil's Whore, The Crimson Petal And The White).
Utopia series two reunites what's left of the gang to tackle the big, unanswerable questions of the first, with just as much style, just as many surprises and grimly comic moments, and - judging by episodes one and two - even more bloodshed. For fans of the first run, it's simply not to be missed.
Here's the first trailer for Utopia series two, or 'Utopia Squared' as the new logo would have it. Not a bad description, that.

Today we've got two full trailers for Scarlett Johansson's seductive and eerie sci-fi thriller called Under The Skin. The movie was directed by Jonathan Glazer (Sexy Beast, Birth) and according to the review quotes in the trailer, the movie is supposed to be really freakin' good. They're comparing it to the work of Stanley Kubrick. It definitely looks like a movie that I want to see. I love the eerie, dark tone of the film.

Under The Skin, starring Scarlett Johansson, has received its first poster. The film screened at the Venice, Telluride, London and Toronto Film Festivals in 2013.
Gregory Ellwood, Hitfix (Telluride) – “This film lives and dies on Johansson’s incredible turn. Johansson’s dialogue is mostly limited to her pickup lines as she scours the city for new meat. Even though a majority of her scenes are silent the 28-year-old actress still finds a way to bring a distinct dramatic arc to her character. Johnasson has shown signs before, but even her harshest critics will have to recognize she’s clearly grown into a world class actress.”
The new trailer will debut tomorrow.

Millions know him as part of C4's It Crowd or as the charming cop in Hollywood hit Bridesmaids. Now the versatile Irish actor is making his mark on the stage in Of Mice and Men
On the Cannes Croisette, in the foyer of the postmodern Jw Marriott hotel, a bundle of brightly polished people from the film industry are standing together in a roped-off area, enjoying a free drink and the illusion of celebrity. Slinking by unnoticed, trundling a small case towards the lifts, is a tall man in a hoodie, with messy hair and stubble.
Is he a TV cameraman or a seedy showbiz journalist? No, it is Chris O'Dowd, one of the most bankable stars to attend the film festival that year, 2012.
No matter how famous the Irish actor gets, following lead roles in Bridesmaids and The Sapphires (along with a disturbing television cameo in the acclaimed HBO series Girls), his ambling,...

Ben Foster has been cast as former cyclist Lance Armstrong in Stephen Frears's upcoming biopic. The as-yet unnamed film will cover Armstrong's rising career, cancer diagnosis, and amazing comeback; it's not yet clear how deeply the movie will delve into the allegations and investigations of his later career.
Foster, whose intense vibe has wowed critics in movies like "The Messenger," will be co-starring with Chris O'Dowd, who will play the Irish journalist David Walsh. Walsh wrote the book "Seven Deadly Sins: My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong," about his dogged determination to uncover the truth about Armstrong's success. O'Dowd is primarily known for comedic roles on the British TV show "The It Crowd" and "Bridesmaids," although he showed a darker side with a recurring part on HBO's "Girls" and the mini-series "The Crimson Petal and the White."
Frears's film won't be the only one examining the former Tour de France champ.

Currently winging his way to California in time for Sherlock's debut panel at Sdcc this Friday, Mark Gatiss is the subject of a fun exclusive from EW, who've revealed that The League of Gentlemen co-creator is joining the cast of Game of Thrones' fourth season.
Gatiss is of course a hugely familiar face to UK genre fans, thanks to his horror movie documentaries, novelist, scriptwriter and acting role in the revived Doctor Who, his Being Human guest role, not to mention his co-creator, writer and acting credits for the BBC's superlative Sherlock. We also quite liked him in The Crimson Petal and the White. He got his shirt off in that.

The third annual Critics' Choice Television Awards features what is becoming the awards' signature mix of no-brainer and under-the-radar nominees.
So while "Breaking Bad" and "Homeland" are nominated for best drama series, so is "The Americans." The best comedy nominees include "The Big Bang Theory" and "Louie," but also "The Middle."
"Big Bang" and "American Horror Story: Asylum" lead the nominees with six apiece. "Parks and Recreation" and Sundance's miniseries "Top of the Lake" have five each. There were a couple of surprise omissions too: "Mad Men" was shut out of the best drama nominees, and of the cast only Elisabeth Moss scored an acting nomination. Ditto for "Modern Family" on the comedy side; Sarah Hyland was the only cast member nominated.
The Critics' Choice Television Awards are set for June 10. "Parks and Rec's" Retta will serve as host.

Well, it’s that time of year again. As shows start airing their season finales, the world is nevertheless abuzz with TV-related news and hype. The upfronts mean that everyone is attempting to gear up for next season, and viewers are hopefully finding shows that they can look forward to. And, it’s award time. After the brief rest since the movie awards were the big thing on everyone’s mind, now we kick into TV awards.
The Btja (of which I am a member) announced their nominees today for the Critics’ Choice Television Awards.
