Though the Television Critics Association’s (TCA) summer 2023 press tour was canceled as a result of the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, the annual TCA Awards move forward.
This year, the final season of “Succession” was joined by two Season 1 series, “The Last of Us” and “The Bear,” as the most-nominated projects. Each was nominated for five awards among the fourteen total categories.
TCA also added two new categories to the list this year, splitting Outstanding Achievement in Youth Programming into separate awards for children’s and family programming.
“The 2023 nominees for the TCA Awards boast an eclectic lineup from across the entertainment spectrum,” said Melanie McFarland, TCA President and TV Critic for Salon.com. “This season truly had something for everyone — from innovative comedies and gripping dramas, to immersive documentaries and refreshingly cerebral storytelling set in a galaxy far, far away. Americans are faced with an ever-increasing variety of options when it comes to television viewing platforms. From antenna to cable to streaming services, the choices are almost endless. When it comes to subscription streaming services, there are several that lead the pack. In a recent study, Scripps Networks revealed exactly which services are the most popular among American households.
While cord-cutting has continued unabated since the trend began more than a decade ago, that does not mean that streaming is the only option for TV viewing. A growing number of people are opting for the old-school, free, over-the-air (Ota) broadcast channels available via an antenna. The study indicates that half of the 2,000 TV consumers surveyed indicated that if they didn’t already own an antenna, they would “consider buying a digital antenna during the next year.”
However, antenna-using cord-cutters are also streaming customers, but their needs invariably are different than...

Family Guy and The Orville creator Seth MacFarlane is leaving his longtime studio home at 20th Century Fox Television after more than two decades for a giant nine-figure television deal at NBCUniversal Content Studios. No one would comment but I hear the pact is for five years and worth at least $200 million.
NBCU Content Studios, the new business unit encompassing Universal Television, Universal Content Prods. and NBCUniversal International Studios under Bonnie Hammer, is announcing itself in a big way by bringing in MacFarlane, one of the A-list creators on the white-hot overall deal market, as its first major talent deal.
NBCU Content Studios’ Ucp and Universal TV each have mega deals on their rosters with the likes of Sam Esmail, Dick Wolf, Mike Schur, Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, among others.
MacFarlane was brought into the NBCU fold through Ucp President Dawn Olmstead, with her unit expected to take lead in working with MacFarlane.

Australian actress-comedian Celeste Barber’s Facebook fundraiser to support the bushfire relief in Australia is the biggest ever for the social media platform, clocking over $32.5M since she first launched it on Friday, Jan. 3.
All funds will go to The Trustee for Nsw Rural Fire Service & Brigades Donations Fund. Donations flowed in from Australians as well as the Us, the UK, Belgium, and Portugal.
To date, reports say that around 25 people have died from the fires, including more than a billion animals. Barber is the star of such Australian series as The Letdown and How Not to Behave.
On Sunday, Russell Crowe, who wound up winning the Golden Globe for Best TV Actor in a Limited Series for Showtime’s The Loudest Voice, was a no-show due to the tragedies occurring in his native Australia.

When Netflix was still renting DVDs, Amazon was selling books, News Corp. and NBC Universal were drawing up plans and Hulu was a place for repeats of their shows, HBO was ruling the Golden Globes. The streaming upstarts have been challenging the incumbent in the past few years as they all made a big push into original programming.
Tonight, HBO found itself in a familiar spot — at the top of the list of networks with most wins, scoring four statuettes. That was up from last year when the WarnerMedia network was tied for fourth place with one win as Netflix and FX led the pack with 3 each.
Along with Showtime’s trophy for The Loudest Voice, the premium networks won five of the 11 TV categories, matching the streamers’ tally (two each for Amazon and Hulu and one for Netflix).

Russell Crowe on Sunday won the 2020 Golden Globes award for best actor in a miniseries or TV movie, for his portrayal of Roger Ailes.
But he skipped the show and his chance to make a victory speech, staying back in Australia because of the ongoing brushfire crisis there.
Instead, presenters Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston accepted the award on Crowe’s behalf — and delivered a pressing message from him about the perils of man-made climate change.

The biggest names in television — and cinema, if you’re into that sort of thing — descended upon Los Angeles’ Beverly Hilton on Sunday for the 77th annual Golden Globe Awards. But before this year’s crop of hopeful nominees could learn their fates, they had to traverse the red carpet.
Among the stars we spotted on the carpet this year are The Morning Show‘s Jennifer Aniston, Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara, Parenthood‘s Lauren Graham, Fleabag‘s Andrew Scott and The Politician‘s Zoey Deutch. We’ll be updating our gallery as more big names arrive.

We're running down our favorite shows of the decade! In addition to our favorite action/adventure series and favorite procedurals, and relationship-focused programming, we're on to a big one -- supernatural series!
Here is a reminder that we have almost two dozen favorites lists, and since we couldn't showcase every show on every list, we parsed them out a bit to make it more fun.
And these lists are not in any particular order. They're in the order the entries were received by TV Fanatic staff, so don't read into them!
To qualify, a show that began in another decade had to be airing during the decade, run a larger number of seasons from 2010 through 2019 if it started before 2010 or run the entire decade. Here we go!

Los Angeles police arrested a female suspect yesterday morning, in connection to actor Merlin Santana's murder. The 26-year-old Showtime star was shot to death while sitting in a parked car on a quiet street in south Los Angeles on Saturday. Although a suspect has been arrested, investigators have yet to find a motive for the attack. Santana won awards for his role as Romeo Santana in The Steve Harvey Show. Steve Harvey, who also hosts a morning radio show on Los Angeles radio station 100.3 The Beat, says, "I just spoke to his girlfriend Angie Brown. She really loved Merlin. She's completely torn down about the whole thing. He was a good kid, a good young man. He was a great father to his daughter. He used to bring her up to the set all the time. It's really a messed up day. I wanna have an answer for everything, but I don't." The former Cosby Show star also had a recurring role in R&B singer Brandy's sitcom Moesha, playing Ohagi.
