New data from Axios shows why Disney doesn’t want to divest itself completely of ESPN, and why its position as a profit engine is precarious.
ESPN is a critical part of Disney’s corporate puzzle. The cable channel was rated as a “must-have” by 74% of cable subscribers according to recent data, and Disney is hard at work attempting to create a streaming version of the channel that won’t require a cable subscription, intended for launch by 2025.
ESPN drives more annual profit than Disney’s entire Entertainment segment, including streaming, theatrical and TV. The channel pulled in more than $10 billion just in carriage fees in 2022. Disney is full steam ahead on its plans to emphasize streaming going forward and may be nearing a deal to sell its Indian operations. Sign Up Now $7.99+ / month disneyplus.com

Fandoms everywhere can now rejoice, for in October Our Flag Means Death finally returns to our screens for its second season. Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi will be romancing the high seas once more thanks to an enormous outpouring of love and support from the show’s fans. The safety of the cult favorite is not yet known beyond season two, but if this one is as good as the first, it certainly won’t be for lack of trying.

Diddy has finally released his heavily-hyped new track, “Another One of Me,” which reportedly features the final feature of the Weeknd’s career (unless, apparently, Daft Punk reunite).
Along with the Weeknd, “Another One of Me” features French Montana and 21 Savage. The track offers a low-key, atmospheric beat, though it obviously wouldn’t be a Diddy track without a blockbuster sample — and “Another One of Me” delivers with the unmistakable drum solo from Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight.”
“Another One of Me” also arrives with a fittingly bonkers-looking visual.

Tubi opens June with an intense WWII drama “Inglourious Basterds.” Allied officer Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) assembles a team of five tough Jewish soldiers to spread fear throughout the Third Reich. They have one assignment: assassinate Nazi leaders. Quentin Tarantino wrote and directed the unconventional war drama. Eli Roth, Melanie Laurent, and Christopher Walz co-star.

Ice Cube might have started out in the world of music. But the rapper has also become quit the established actor over the years, appearing in more than two dozen movies. In fact, Ice Cube reportedly carries a net worth of $160 million. However, early on, the rapper never thought he had a chance at landing a role in his film debut, the Oscar-nominated drama Boyz n the Hood.
‘Boyz n the Hood’ was Ice Cube’s first major breakthrough movie
The 1995 film Friday arguably established Ice Cube as a big-screen leading man. After all, he carried top billing on that hit comedy, which also catapulted Chris Tucker to stardom. And since then, he’s appeared in countless hits, including two Friday sequels, the Barbershop franchise, 21 Jump Street and its sequel, Ride Along and its sequel, and most recently, 2020’s The High Note.
But 1991’s Boyz n the Hood was something special.

Just as the Super Bowl traditionally inhibits studios from releasing new titles to theaters, there were few fresh films available on home platforms. As a result, four titles — all previously ranked #1 on multiple charts — took the top spots again. The exception was Netflix, which debuted “Malcolm & Marie” February 5. Starring Zendaya and John David Washington, it immediately became the streamer’s most-watched film.
Long-running, still-Premium VOD titles “Greenland” and “News of the World,” along with $5.99 rentals “Tenet” and “Let Him Go,” are this week’s chart toppers. “News” and “Tenet” made all four lists (as did “The War with Grandpa”). “Let Him Go” failed to make Spectrum’s top 10, with its price reduction coming too late to impact the list.
There were a few surprises. Why is “2067,” an Australian science-fiction film starring Ryan Kwanten and Kodi Smit McPhee, available for $0.99 at Apple? (It’s more expensive elsewhere.) “Promising Young Woman,...

When Wall Street billionaires Gabriel Hammond, 37, and his brother, Daniel, 33, launched independent producer-distributor Broad Green Pictures two summers ago, Hollywood was skeptical about its prospects. In a time when even the Weinsteins are struggling to survive, it was a strange time to reinvent a dying economic model.
Now Broad Green is laying off around 6 percent of its staff, all of whom work in the publicity department, the company confirmed to IndieWire. Broad Green’s publicity head Adam Keen, a former Warner Bros. publicity exec, has resigned. Marketing and communications personnel are traditionally the first casualties of cutbacks in Hollywood.
The layoffs were unsurprising. Ken Kwapis’s Sundance comedy “A Walk in the Woods” starring Robert Redford and Nick Nolte managed $30 million, but that couldn’t counterbalance films like Ramin Bahrani’s well-reviewed real estate thriller “99 Homes” ($1.7 million domestic) and Sarah Silverman’s depressive drama “I Smile Back” ($58K). Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs offers a three-minute dedication to his “hustle” on minimalist new track “Workin’,” which the rapper debuted Tuesday night during an all-star performance at the BET Hip-Hop Awards. The song features a sampled, pitch-shifted hook – “Don’t bother me; I’m workin'” – from Les Sins’ “Bother,” with Puff brushing aside endless distractions. “We hustle before we play,” he raps, “even on Memorial Day.”

As previously reported by Us, current contenders include both Ben Higgins and Ben Zorn (producers would call a dual Bachelor season "All About the Benjamins"), as well as Viall, who was left heartbroken — yet again — on Monday's episode. We all know Sean “P. Diddy” Combs fell at the 2015 Bet Awards. Hilarious and countless memes all over social media have shown us that. But what you may not know – or care to know – is that there was some sort of malfunction Sunday night where a chunk of the catwalk fell out and Diddy, who was performing “It’s All About the Benjamins” at the time, fell sometime around the 5-minute mark. And just like that, regardless of the reason, Diddy joined an illustrious list of slip-and-fall superstars that include Madonna, Shaquille O’Neal, Jennifer Lawrence and Diddy’s ex Jennifer Lopez. Click on for more giggles (or sympathy, depending on the mishap).

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Diddy's Bad Boy Records, the rapper gathered many of the label's original artists together for an epic performance at the Bet Awards on Sunday. The all-star roster, which included Lil' Kim, Faith Evans, Sheek Louch, and even Ma$e, hit the stage to belt out some of their biggest nostalgia-inducing hits; hearing "Mo Money Mo Problems," "All About the Benjamins," "Love Like This," "Hypnotize," and 112's "Peaches & Cream" will definitely take you back in the best way possible. In one sad/hilarious moment, Diddy fell into the same hole that Lil' Kim popped out of - but he kept the party going, which is the true sign of a legendary artist. It's hard not to get excited about the upcoming Godzilla reboot, but it's equally difficult to forget America's previous botched attempt at remaking the iconic monster. While I'm not sure I'd ever accuse Ice Cube of having any significant dramatic range as an actor, I like his presence on-screen, and I've enjoyed several of the action comedies he's starred in. I think "All About The Benjamins" is just plain fun, and Eva Mendes gives a fantastic comic performance in it. Cube's had several on-screen comic foils, and I'd say Chris Tucker in the first "Friday" remains the gold standard. That film worked as well as it did because the entire cast was strong and funny and worked perfectly off of one another, whether it's Tiny Lister or...

Who is Oscar Isaac? He stars as a fictitious '60s folk singer in the new Coen Brothers' film "Inside Llewyn Davis," and although he's made plenty of films you've probably seen, he's seemingly come out of nowhere, so much so that a reporter at Cannes (where the film won the Grand Prix award) asked the actor, "Where have you come from?"
The 33-year-old was born in Guatemala, raised in Miami, and educated at Juilliard. He's been acting for more than 10 years, just in roles that haven't gotten him a lot of attention -- until now.
Even if you remember him from "Drive" or "Robin Hood," you've likely never heard him sing before, but he's actually been singing for years. Before breaking out as an actor, he sang and played lead guitar in the band The Blinking Underdogs.

1997 saw some incredible music releases in hip hop, rap, R&B and soul. This year I expect to see bigger and better things from urban music given how brilliant this decade has been to date. It is certainly a good time to be a fresh and new urban music artist with serious talent. The charts welcome you.
There are five artists in particular who I think deserve special attention – all released albums last year each with hit singles. Keep an eye on the talent in this list – because I have a feeling that the best is yet to come from these five.
5. Puff Daddy
The 28 year old New York label owner of Bad Boy Records can not only manage new talent, but he can rap too. Last year he released his first studio album “No Way Out” and let the world know “Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down” with his lead single off the LP.

Running Time: 1 hr 50 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: May 6, 2011
Plot: Two families are forced to coexist at a tumultuous wedding at Martha’s Vineyard.
Who’S It For?: Anyone who likes to go to weddings to both watch people fight, and to also laugh with some of the crazier relatives. Being a fan of Mike Epps nearly guarantees enjoyment of this movie.
Expectations: A lot of familiar faces are on this poster. Regardless of how good or bad the drama is, it’s gotta be somewhat funny, right?
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:
Paula Patton as Sabrina Watson: She just wants things to go right. Even when things are getting really crazy, Patton’s semi-squeaky clean character maintains a sweetness that we can refer to.
