This post contains spoilers for "John Wick: Chapter 4."
Lance Reddick was one of the best actors working in Hollywood, which made his sudden death on March 17 all the more devastating. His role as Charon in the "John Wick" franchise was just one of the many characters he brought to the screen with depth and precision. Whether Reddick was playing Phillip Broyles on "Fringe," Cedric Daniels on "The Wire," Irvin Irving on "Bosch," or any other of his many, many roles, you knew whatever you were watching would be better because of his presence.
If you've seen "John Wick: Chapter 4", you know that something upsetting happens with Reddick's most loyal concierge, Charon. Reddick played the character in five films — the four "John Wick" movies as well as the upcoming spinoff, "Ballerina" — and he had no idea where the role would take him when he first signed on for the part.

"John Wick: Chapter 4" is set to debut in theaters next week, and in his review, /Film's Jacob Hall has already praised the film for adding to the franchise in a major way, with "more world-building, bigger action, and a deeper embrace of what its leading man does well." While the latest film reportedly tops the rest of the Keanu Reeves-led franchise in terms of creative and mind-boggling action sequences, it's also a project that has now become heartbreaking in the wake of today's news about the passing of franchise actor Lance Reddick. This afternoon, Reeves and director Chad Stahelski released a statement in which they confirmed that the new movie will be dedicated to Reddick's memory.
While it's surreal to think about in light of the sad news, /Film's Vanessa Armstrong actually spoke with Reddick recently about his turn in the new film, where he reprised his...

Truly shocking news today, as it’s being reported that actor Lance Reddick, a staple of the John Wick franchise from the beginning, has passed away at just 60 years old.
TMZ reports, “Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … Lance’s body was discovered at his Studio City home Friday morning around 9:30 Am. His cause of death is currently unclear, but our law enforcement sources say it appears to be natural.”
In addition to the John Wick movies, which saw him play the role of Charon – the fourth film will be released this year – Lance Reddick also recently appeared in Netflix’s short-lived “Resident Evil” television series, stealing the entire show as iconic character Albert Wesker. Reddick humorously ended up playing four different versions of the character in the series.

The Oscar-nominated British filmmaker Hugh Hudson has passed away. Famous for his documentary and advertising work, Hudson shot Chariots of Fire, one of the most celebrated films in British history, and Best Picture winner at the 1981 Oscars ceremony. Hudson was 86 when he passed away on Friday at Charing Cross hospital in London after a brief illness.
Hudson directed seven films throughout his career, including Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984), Revolution, Lost Angels, and more. Hailed as a maker of lasting cinema, Hudson’s Revolution, starring Al Pacino, was a box office bomb, earning roughly 350,000 against a reported 29 million budget. The backlash left a lasting impression on Hudson and compelled Pacino to exit the acting scene for roughly four years.

A longtime director of commercials, Hudson made the leap to films with the 1981 feature-length documentary Fangio: Una vita a 300 all’ora, covering the Formula One champion Juan Manuel Fangio. That same year he released Chariots of Fire, a historical drama about two athletes, one Christian and one Jewish, who made an unlikely connection at the 1924 Olympics. Robert Redford: 'The Great Gatsby' and 'The Way We Were' tonight on Turner Classic Movies Turner Classic Movies' Star of the Month Robert Redford returns this evening with three more films: two Sydney Pollack-directed efforts, Out of Africa and The Way We Were, and Jack Clayton's film version of F. 'The Great Gatsby': Robert Redford as Jay Gatsby Released by Paramount Pictures, the 1974 film version of The Great Gatsby had prestige oozing from just about every cinematic pore. The film was based on what some consider the greatest American novel ever written. Francis Ford Coppola, whose directing credits included the blockbuster The Godfather, and who, that same year, was responsible for both The Godfather Part II and The Conversation, penned the adaptation. Multiple Tony winner David Merrick (Becket,...

Director: Hugh Hudson // Writers: Olivia Hetreed, José Luis López-Linares
Hudson, notably the director of 1981 Best Picture winner Chariots of Fire, hasn’t helmed a feature since the lambasted 2000 Kim Basinger film I Dreamed of Africa, a noted passion project for the actress. His latest, Altamira, looks to be a historical reenactment, and will hopefully prove to be Hudson’s welcome return to feature films, which is why it makes our list. Banderas will play Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola, a Spanish jurist and amateur archeologist who made the discovery of the Altamira Cave with his nine-year-old daughter Maria. Featuring painting of bison, horses, a doe and human hands, made with charcoal and ochre, these were the first Paleolithic cave paintings of their type to be discovered.
Cast: Antonio Banderas, Golshifteh Farahani, Rupert Everett.
Producers: Morena Films’ Lucrecia Botín and Alvaro Longoria (7 Days in Havana), Sympathetic Ink’s Andy Paterson (The Railway Man...

Esteemed British filmmaker Hugh Hudson is coming out of retirement to direct a new family movie.
The man behind Chariots of Fire and the flop I Dreamed of Africa stepped back from the spotlight a decade ago, but he has been persuaded to return to the set for Midnight Sun, a film he co-wrote.
The feel-good movie revolves around a child who befriends a stranded polar bear cub, according to Variety.

English filmmaker Hugh Hudson started out as an editor of documentaries in the 1960s, and before long was making his own. Yet it is for his first narrative feature Chariots of Fire for which Hudson is best known. The biopic that followed the harrowing drama of two contentious track stars running in the 1924 Olympics won critical acclaim and four Oscars, including Best Picture. However despite this early success, Hudson's career as a film director sputtered, then came to a screeching halt in 2000, after the Kim Basinger-fronted biopic I Dreamed of Africa proved to be major flop critically and at the box office. Since then, his only screen effort has been a little-known documentary called Rupture: A Matter of Life Or Death, which he created for BBC4. So frankly, it's shocking to see Variety report that Hudson is set to return to the director's chair to helm a new narrative feature,...

Oscar night is supposed to be the night where dreams come true and careers are made, but for many actors over the years, it has marked the beginning of a downward trend. Among the list of past winners, you'll find some of Hollywood's most timeless faces. But you'll also find some names that have faded since their night of Oscar glory.
Through no fault of their own, some actors have struggled to escape from under the weight of an Academy Award win — especially if it came early in their career. Despite their best efforts, they have yet to repeat their previous levels of success and live up to the title "Academy Award winner."

Through the years, early May has evolved into the start of the summer movie season, even though the actual summer doesn't begin for another month and a half. This year is no exception with the release of Iron Man 2, which follows in the footsteps of the first Iron Man, Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3 among past early May/summer kick-offs. Five Years Ago - 2005 While early May had seen huge numbers before 2005, this weekend was anemic as far as summer starts go. Director Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven was the would-be event picture, being a historical epic positioned to repeat Scott's Gladiator success in 2000. But its Medieval subject matter was less appealing and its marketing less focused than Gladiator, leading to a relatively modest $19.6 million debut at 3,216 theaters. Additionally, few cared enough to see Paris Hilton get slaughtered in House of Wax, the weekend's other major release that opened to $12.1 million at 3,111 sites.

Producer Vicky Licorish (Goodbye, Mr. Steadman) has recently completed a labour of love in the shape of 'Small Island', a drama from Ruby Television in association with Al Films for BBC, which chronicles the intertwining lives and loves of Jamaicans and Londoners in the 1940s where English landlords' signs reading 'No Irish, No Coloureds, No Dogs' appeared to be the message of almost an entire country. 'Small Island' was filmed in Belfast and Jamaica during February / March 2009, with a few days also spent shooting in Dublin. The crew shot for six weeks in Belfast having transformed parts of the city into post war London. The drama feature, which is expected to broadcast as two 90 minute pieces, is adapted from Andrea Levy's novel of the same name, directed by John Alexander (The Shadow in the North) and adapted by Paula Milne (I Dreamed of Africa). In more adaptation-y news from Cannes, Kevin Spacey, Colin Firth and director Hugh Hudson (Chariots Of Fire) have signed on for a big-screen adaptation of George Orwell's Homage To Catalonia. Literary icon, satirist, animal lover: there were many strings to George Orwell's bow, but it's less well known that he was also a rifle-toting socialist who was gunned down fighting fascists in the Spanish Civil War. Needless to say, he got up again and his Chumbawamba-style recovery is recorded in Homage To Catalonia, written on his return to England in 1938. It should provide a rich backdrop for the Hudson's first film since 1990's I Dreamed Of Africa. Catalonia will be magicked into script form by veteran screenwriter Bob Ellis, who will focus on the relationship between Orwell and Georges Kopp, the charismatic commander in the International Brigade with whom he formed a strong bond. Smart money is on...

"I myself would have been curious to meet the person I was to interpret," says the heavily accented, slightly indignant voice at the end of the telephone line. " But he notes he and their four-year-old daughter IRELAND spent four months on location with Basinger in Africa while she shot the movie. He says, "In order to keep my marriage alive, I have incurred lawsuits and paid multimillion dollar settlements. I've blown off films and got sued - just to be with my wife."...
